How do you come by most of your inspiration, if I may ask? Most of mine just… appears, or I see/hear something that triggers a chain reaction of thoughts and ideas. How does it work for you?
Heya! Thanks for the question!
So, for me, a lot of it is similar to yours. I also have a random little list, so let’s see here, uh…
1. Constantly muttering dialogue to myself. I say this frequently and it is not a joke, about 80% of my time alone I am muttering things the characters are saying to each other and if it fits and sounds right then I chunk it out in a document and build around it. Examples are the Nasuada and Arya conversation in Understanding, nearly every story in the 'For a Future Story' shorts, and quite a few more I can't remember at the moment.
2. I try to write what I know, which means if I find a sensation, typically tactile, that I latch on to then I can probably find a way to work it into a fic. Other times it's things that I've experienced physically. That creepy Durza story, Grip? I was remembering the time I tried to breathe through a precordial catch after I got another one after years of not having any. I felt like I was straight up dying, and I was stupid enough to try and breathe in again and spent a good minute laying there unable to move or breathe at all. Fun stuff! But also delightfully inspiring for torture and yes, before anyone asks, I indeed have had my head examined, and I am fine, if just a little bit...odd.
3. Chatterboxing with my coworker/friends. Some of them do indeed let me stream of consciousness talk about MIC and stuff. Some ideas come from there, though they mostly ignite the random 'omg what wait' posts rather than full blown stories.
4. Rereading the books on occasion helps! Reunion and this current MIC wild phase began there. Also, other media! The Escape series idea was originally started by a scene in the Halo web/miniseries 'Forward Unto Dawn' where Chief punches an ammo storage cage and rips it off its hinges.
5. I'm curious. If I have a question, no matter how strange or out of place or wild or disturbing, I go looking for an answer. Rabbit holes! I learn so much about the body, psych and physical reactions that I can't help but put them somewhere after I learn them. I am always trying to learn new things, and once I've learned of them, if they're something that applies, I go looking for first hand accounts and experiences to learn how other people go through them or feel them, because no one is all the symptoms, no one is all the same, ya know? AskReddit is, funny enough, a wonderful tool when it comes to that.
6. Yes, Arya lives rent free in my head. Sometimes Brom, Glen, Durza, and Islanzadi join her and they have conversations. Eragon and Saphira not so much, Murtagh is mostly absent due to his absence in the war, but they show up still. I've been recently informed this is called Brainrot, but it's only mildly contagious and not always detrimental, so I've held off seeking medical help.
7. Long time ideas. There are ideas and concepts and stories that I have been unable to fully write or get down for well on seven years now I think. Oh god, wait first iteration of MIC was in...2014/15, so...Oh god, I feel olllddd. BUT! These ideas never fully materialized at the time because I just don't have the right feel, the right things to connect them, or just not the right flow at the time. The Escape series was one of these! It took me YEARS to finally get a random spark at work that connected everything together and set off that hell of a ride to 12k+ words. That spark was, hilariously, boiled down to two words: Durza Parade.
8. You!! and people like you!! People who ask me questions about MIC make me think! And that's wonderful for ideas!! You guys make me think about the things I don't typically think about! I learn new things trying to answer! So thank you! For asking questions!
9. Congratulations, you made it to the end of list, so you get my biggest, baddest, TMI'est secret to how I go through bursts of inspo and writing: HORMONES. I have a form of birth control that allows me to choose when that happens and when it stops. If you ever see a lul in MIC and then a sharp spike in me doing the cat gif of scitterscramblezoomies on a bed, then you probably know I'm complaining about taxes on hygiene products but also hanging from the ceiling yelling things about torture and ptsd and recovery and everyone doing stupid slice of life and funny things and cuddling. And/or the hormones are back in the system and it spikes everything that way instead of with Shark Week. *Fingerguns* Which is what is currently going on. Had absolutely no effect going through Shark Week, currently losing my mind going back to regularly scheduled programing.
That's mostly it, I guess. Sorry I went overboard. Sorry for the TMI but honestly if anyone who has stuck with MIC the past year or two looks at the blog activity they could probably track that shit. Which I find fucking hilarious. I write about torture, I'm not shy anymore. Sorry.
Thanks for the ask, and thanks for the interest!! Hopefully you'll stick around for more stories and shorts and wildness to come!

Top 10 Female Characters
Thanks for tagging @solana-ceae was free today for a bit so you caught me at a nice time and it's pretty interesting and also so painful to keep it to 10, because i have probably 10 for each type media i read or watch lol. These are in no particular order and might come back someday to elaborate on some of these choices
if anyone wants to do it consider yourseves tagged
1. Elizabeth Bennett from Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
Elizabeth Bennett, is a character so beloved to me, that even after almost a decade of having read the novel, P&P remains one of my most favourite novels of all time. It was my first romance novel ever and also was my introduction to the works of Jane Austen and romance novels in general. It's also the reason i have such a fondness for regency era romance novels. I love all of her iterations in the myriad of iterations of Pride and Prejudice adaptations we've seen over the years, though i will confess my favourites are the from book (ofc), the 1995 bbc mini series (the better adaptation of P&P novel), the 2005 movie and from the web series, the Lizzie Bennett diaries, a really beautiful awesome web series that is fully available on youtube and i think is a must watch for any fans of P&P.
Elizabeth is such a beautiful vivacious woman, who was courageous, fearless enough to not settle for anything but what she wanted, and a little prideful and she is a wonderful example of how one can be unfairly prejudiced against someone because of an erroneous first impression and also not someone behaving towards you like you expected. And i loved it as a kid, still do almost a decade later, but in a lot different way than i did as a kid.
2. Hermione Granger from the Harry Potter series
As much as jkr's comments and my growing age seeing the pitfalls of the harry potter series made me like the actual series a lot less, but Hermione Granger still reigns supreme as my favourite character from the series (followed by Draco Malfoy, Harry Potter and the book version of Ginny Weasley, yes the book version specifically).
Hermione Granger is and will remain one of my biggest inspirations in life. She was the first character i saw that was so like me when i read it as a kid, and she made me feel ok being one of the smart girls. She's smart as heck, empathetic to the plights of others, believes in justice even when she gets made fun of for it, and totally vicious when crossed. Like it wasn't really shown in the movies, but book Hermione was low key unhinged when she was crossed and i love that for her. She's not perfect, and i love that about her.
I really wish we had her perspective on the shenanigans of the series because it would be so fascinating honestly. And honestly if i had to criticize (one) thing about her was her decision to get together with Ron at the end. It was plain and boring and for those who like her with him great for you, i don't.
3. Arya Stark from Game of Thrones/A Song of Ice and Fire series
She's so persevering and so determined to attain her goals, i love that for her. She's gone through a lot in her tiny life, but she's never let it beat her down ever, she always stands back up and takes names.
I hated what they did to her character in the last 2 seasons of the show (actually i point blank absolutely detest the last season of Game of thrones period so yeah) but before that i loved what she was doing, and everything.
"What do you say to the god of death? Not Today"
100/10 line. Absolute banger. Very quotable. Very inspiring. Fight me if you think otherwise
4. Fa Mulan, Mulan disney movies
An absolute icon, childhood and adult inspiration to live as i want and to have the strength to do what's right and being yourself no matter what.
Also the 1998 movie has some of my favourite movie songs EVER.
Also Bisexual legend Shang ftw
5. Annalise and Erika, The Princess and the Pauper
Yes some of my favourite characters are from a barbie movie, what about it?
Love them both, 100/10 top barbie movie (along with The 12 Dancing princesses) both provided so many lessons to young me and even now are a source of comfort. Also The Princess and the Pauper has one of the best barbie movie songs, the best villian songs and i have each and every song from this movie memorised.
6. Geet from Jab We Met
She's such a comfort character now, and honestly it's hard for me to explain why i love geet so much in anything less than what is an essay lmao.
Jab We Met is honestly one of bollywood's best rom coms ever. Such a feel good story, a banger soundtrack album and the absolute sparkling chemistry between Shahid and Kareena.
She's such a bright, bubbly, vivacious character, full of life and enthusiasm you can help but be charmed by her and her iconic line "Main apni favourite hun (I am my own favourite)" is such a lovely self love line. Even when things in her life didn't work out the way she wanted it to, she soldiered on, and made the best of her situation. Her romance with aditya is so nice and so balanced man i absolutely love jab we met.
If you haven't watched Jab We Met, this is a sign that you should!! I THINK it's one of those movies even those who don't watch bollywood will enjoy.
7. Kaori Makimura from City Hunter manga and anime
She's also another comfort character whom i relate to and looking back, was also one of my first female crushes in any media lol.
She's so unapologetic to be herself, is sometimes insecure about stuff, some of which that i highly relate to, as a woman who was never into the overtly cutesy femme get up ever since i was a kid. She also grows so much as the series progresses and her partnership with Ryo is so complex and yet so simple at the same time. I love how she appreciates Ryo, the very flawed man he is, knowing he's deeply flawed but loving him anyways. And actually it's manga english translation took SO FUCKING LONG to finish istg it was a slow burn from hell. And even though the romance wasn't shown as much, the love and respect Ryo and Kaori had for each other is one of my favourite things in media.
8. Elle Woods from Legally Blonde
She's such a beautiful character who shows that it's fine to be your feminine self even if the environment around you doesn't like that. Legally Blonde is one of my comfort movies and Elle Woods is absolutely the major reason for it.
She's confident in herself and her feminity, a go getter, really intelligent and also still being kind and empathetic towards others. I really think if I'd seen this movie (and the show suits) when i was younger, there was a high chance i would've been a lawyer instead of a doctor that i am right now lmao. She's such an inspiration.
"What? like it's hard?" Absolutely banger line. This is poetic cinema at its peak.
9. Aria Roscente from The Villianess Turns the Hourglass
One of my favourites in the villianess isekai genre of manhwa. A trailblazer, an icon, an absolute legend and a trendsetter.
Aria is such a strong woman. She's also highly intelligent, but also willing to work hard for her goals. While the plot may seem contrived to give her all the things going right, she also never fails to take advantage of all the opportunities that she sees and i love her for it. (The actual villian in this manhwa is such an icon, many wish to be mielle, but you truly can't be mielle)
Aria is my favourite even if she also does a lot of gaslight, gatekeep, girlboss and she will do it in STYLE and pizazz.
10. Hashimoto from Kieta Hatsukoi
She's the best girl, and honestly she's one of the best parts of Kieta Hatsukoi . She so sweet and encouraging of aoki and she's so cute, absolutely love her.
Honorable mentions:
- Tara Elias/Yeonwoo from I'll Save this Damned Family (manhwa)
- Florentia Lombardi from I Shall Master this Family (manhwa)
- Ink from Bad Buddy (thai series)
- Kate Beckett from Castle (series)
- Fujisaki from Cherry Magic (manga and japanese Live action)
- Kim Yu-Na Semantic Error (more in the korean live action adaptation, but also in the manhwa)
- Miranda Priestly from The Devil Wears Prada (movie)
- Donna Sheridan from Mamma Mia 2008 (movie, acted by Meryl Streep)
- Cersei Lannister from Game of Thrones/A Song of Ice and Fire series
- Daenyrys Targaryen from Game of Thrones/A Song of Ice and Fire series
- Anne Elliot from Persuasion by Jane Austen

8 Seasons Of Game Of Thrones From Worst To Best
Tumblr media
Movies have been one of the best sources of entertainment for a long time now. To be accurate, movies have been entertaining people for over 60-70 years now. And we all know that the entertainment these moves have managed to give us can’t be matched by anything else.
So it will not be wrong to say that movies have ruled the industry for a long time. And they could not be dethroned until… until the television series came. TV series, since their release, have maintained their supremacy in the entertainment industry. At present, there are various TV series which have left a mark in the industry with their story and Beaufort acting by the cast.
One of such series is the Game Of Thrones. The Game of Thrones series has been so successful that people have been watching it again and again even when it has officially concluded. This series has a total of 8 seasons of Game of Thrones and it was the first time that all the seasons of a single TV series were loved equally!
“Game of Thrones” remains a monumental series in television history, captivating audiences worldwide with its intricate storytelling, complex characters, and unexpected plot twists. Spanning eight seasons, the series has evoked a spectrum of emotions from its viewers. In this comprehensive analysis, we delve into each season, ranking them from the least to the most acclaimed, based on narrative strength, character development, and overall impact.
But as we all know, not all seasons can be equally good. There will always be some flaws which differentiate one session from the other. So if you are planning to watch the GoT series, then here is the list of all the seasons ranked from worst to best for your convenience! Don’t be upset that GOT is over. You can watch a lot of other web series like Game of thrones. Adios!
Seasons Of Game Of Thrones From Worst To Best
8. SEASON 5
We can never judge any season of GOT, but it has been considered as the lowest liked sessions of all and there’s nothing to change.
The GOT season 5 was a completely bloodthirsty season where we witnessed a lot of deaths which include the deaths of Stannis Baratheon, Myrcella Baratheon and Jon Snow. The season shows us the murders of King Joffrey and his grandfather Tywin Lannister. After their death, Tywin’s young and indecisive grandson Tommen rules the Westeros and the elder one, Tyrion, flees to Essos to meet Daenerys Targaryen. But the story wasn’t much liked the audience.
Season 5 is often regarded as the series’ most controversial installment. The narrative takes a darker turn, emphasizing political intrigue and personal vendettas. Key events include:
Jon Snow’s Leadership at the Wall: Jon faces challenges as the newly elected Lord Commander, making the contentious decision to ally with the Wildlings, leading to internal strife.
Sansa Stark’s Ordeal: Sansa’s harrowing marriage to Ramsay Bolton introduces distressing themes, drawing criticism for its portrayal.
Daenerys in Meereen: Daenerys grapples with ruling Meereen, confronting insurgent groups and facing a rebellion that tests her leadership.
While the season is rich in political maneuvering, some fans felt it lacked the momentum and cohesion of earlier installments.
7. SEASON 8
The end of something is never loved by anybody but in this case, the reasons are different.
Season 8 revolved around two primary wars – against the Army of Dead and one for the Iron Throne. Where Jon and Daenerys help Sam kill the Night King to defeat Army of Dead, the assassination of Missandei by Cersei enraged Daenerys. She with her dragon army destroys most part of the city and is then killed by Jon who was unable to stop her. Many more things happened too!
The final season aimed to conclude the sprawling narratives but faced mixed reactions. Notable moments include:
The Battle of Winterfell: A visually dark and intense confrontation with the Night King, culminating in Arya Stark delivering the fatal blow.
Daenerys’ Descent: Daenerys’ unexpected decision to decimate King’s Landing, leading to debates about character consistency.
The Iron Throne’s Fate: Jon Snow’s tragic decision to kill Daenerys to prevent further tyranny, followed by Bran Stark’s election as king.
The season’s brisk pacing and resolution of key arcs left many viewers yearning for a more nuanced conclusion.
6. SEASON 2
This season was a brief yet delightful one to watch amidst all the chaos. Most of the story is about the storyline of Arya who tries to interact with Tywin Lannister and wants to get a way of killing him. The Starks wage a war against the Lannisters. We also see Daenerys in Qarth forever and our beloved Jon meets Ygritte, which he takes as his hostage. Job also has to kill Ranger Qhorin Halfhand in order to get closer to the mysterious Mance Ryder.
Building upon the foundation of its predecessor, Season 2 expands the world of Westeros:
War of the Five Kings: Multiple claimants, including Stannis and Renly Baratheon, vie for the Iron Throne, leading to shifting alliances.
Tyrion as Hand: Tyrion Lannister’s tenure as Hand of the King showcases his political acumen and introduces memorable dynamics in King’s Landing.
Beyond the Wall: Jon Snow’s journey introduces the enigmatic Wildlings and the formidable Ygritte, deepening the lore of the North.
The season effectively broadens the narrative scope, though some storylines develop at a measured pace.
5. SEASON 1
Season 1 is what started it all and hence ended up in this number.The season shows us the intro of the Starks when Ned Stark is asked to serve as the King’s Hand after the mysterious death death of the former hand. Little Bran is push out of a window and is killed! And then starts the feud of the Starks and the Lannisters after Joffrey beheads Ned. We also catch a glimpse of Daenerys who, after the death of her husband Drogo, heads on a new path, to the Iron Throne.
The inaugural season lays the groundwork for the epic tale:
Introduction to Westeros: Viewers meet the honorable Ned Stark, the ambitious Lannisters, and the exiled Daenerys Targaryen.
Political Intrigue: Ned’s investigation into Jon Arryn’s death uncovers dark secrets, leading to his eventual downfall.
Rise of Daenerys: Daenerys evolves from a pawn in her brother’s schemes to the Mother of Dragons, marking a significant transformation.
The season’s deliberate pacing sets the stage for future conflicts, culminating in a shocking finale that establishes the show’s unpredictable nature.
4. SEASON 4
Yep, the numbers match! The season 4 story has one main headline – the death of the cruel Joffrey, who was poisoned by Lady Olenna. But Tyrion is fairly accused of the murder and waits execution. But he is secretly smuggled to Essos and kills his father Tywin before fleeing. The Night’s Watch is rescued by Jon Snow – and later Stannis Baratheon – from the army of Wildings. Daenerys is seen taking control over Meereen and later killing her trusted advisor who spied on her.
Season 4 is marked by pivotal events that reshape the power dynamics:
The Purple Wedding: King Joffrey’s dramatic demise during his wedding feast, a moment celebrated by many.
Tyrion’s Trial: Accused of regicide, Tyrion’s trial exposes familial betrayals, leading to his escape and patricide.
The Night’s Watch vs. Wildlings: An epic battle at Castle Black tests Jon Snow’s leadership and fortitude.
The season masterfully balances character arcs with action, delivering some of the series’ most memorable moments.
3. SEASON 7
Season 7 was all about the payoffs. The season shows Daenerys take over Dragonstone in Westeros. She plans to overthrow Cersei but Jon arrives to save them from the White Walkers. The Night King kills Daenerys’ dragon Viserion and reanimates it into a wight. The Stark siblings are reunited and kill Petyr Baelish who tries to turn then against each other. The Night King finally demolishes a part of the Wall and let’s his army of the Dead in.
As the series approaches its climax, Season 7 accelerates the narrative:
Daenerys’ Return to Westeros: Establishing her base at Dragonstone, she forms alliances and confronts Cersei’s forces.
The Loot Train Attack: A breathtaking battle showcasing the devastating power of dragons against Lannister forces.
The Wall’s Fall: The Night King breaches the Wall using a reanimated dragon, signaling imminent peril.
While some criticized the season’s expedited timelines, it delivers high-stakes drama and long-anticipated confrontations.
2. SEASON 3
Season 3 was one of the fan favourite episodes and we can many reasons why. The story was amazing bringing in various feuds and fights to our notice. Lord Walder Frey plans the murder of Robb as he breaks his vow of marrying the former’s daughters. Robb is killed and Roose Bolton is appointed the new warden of the North by Lord Tywin Lannister. Jon manages to climb the Wall on the South side. King Joffrey plans to marry Margaery and gets Sansa married to his son Tyrion. The season also shows us our dear Daenerys.
Season 6 offers satisfying resolutions and standout episodes:
Jon Snow’s Resurrection: Revived by Melisandre, Jon reclaims leadership and seeks justice for his betrayal.
Battle of the Bastards: A visually stunning and emotionally charged battle culminating in Ramsay Bolton’s defeat.
Cersei’s Ascendancy: Eliminating her adversaries in a fiery coup, Cersei seizes the throne, showcasing her ruthless ambition.
The season artfully weaves character development with epic storytelling, leading to a compelling penultimate chapter.
1. SEASON 6
This is the best season of all the eight and this is where every event in the story come together. First we see Jon becoming the King of the North. We get to see Bran training with the Three-Eyed Raven, who is killed by the White Walkers. Arya is seen training with the faceless men and later leaves them to return to Westeros to take revenge on Walder Frey. And various other moments are placed correctly to make it a perfect series!
Widely regarded as the pinnacle of the series, Season 3 delivers emotional depth and narrative complexity:
The Red Wedding: A shocking betrayal during the union of House Tully and House Frey, cementing the series’ reputation for defying expectations.
Daenerys’ Liberation Campaign: Daenerys’ conquest of Astapor, freeing the Unsullied, and acquiring loyal followers.
Jon Snow’s Dilemma: Jon grapples with loyalty as he integrates with the Wildlings, forming a bond with Ygritte.
Season 3’s masterful storytelling and emotional resonance make it a standout chapter in the “Game of Thrones” saga.
Conclusion
“Game of Thrones” remains a cultural phenomenon, with its highs and lows sparking endless debates. While each season has its unique strengths and weaknesses, the series as a whole offers an unparalleled journey through the world of Westeros. Whether you’re revisiting the show or exploring it for the first time, these rankings provide a roadmap to relive the magic and intrigue that made “Game of Thrones” a global sensation.

Modern Inheritance: Debrief, Pt. 1 (Intro)
(A/N: Politics! Verbal bullshitting! Thinly veiled threats! Overabundance of accessories and unnecessary magic use! POLITICS!
To quote Arya off screen, "I'd rather go through Gil'ead three more times than deal with any of this political hellscape, but *singsong* here I am! Putting on a STUPID dress uniform, about to be, for all intents and purposes, fucking INTERROGATED about being ambushed, losing my mate, teleporting a dragon egg, getting TORTURED while, haha, I was being asked a series of questions, also known as being interrogated, becAUSE THIS WON'T BE TRIGGERING AT ALL! :D GLEN WHY THE FUCK HAVEN'T WE RENOUNCED OUR FUCKING CULTURE YET?!"
Arya is required to attend an official debriefing on the ambush and her captivity by the council of elf lords and ladies. She prefers when she gets stabbed from the front.)
~~~~~~
“I still think this could be done on paper.”
Glenwing patted his commander’s shoulder and pulled her into his side for a quick hug, never once faltering in their pace as they meandered to the great hall. “You’ll do fine. You can handle questions.” He paused, a grim tilt to his half smirk. “Don’t handle these questions like you did the last ones you got. You’re supposed to answer these ones.”
The dark humor drew a similarly tight lipped grin from her. “I’m not worried about that.”
Arya raised a hand to run it over her hair and shot her medic a sheepishly appreciative look when he caught her wrist. It had taken both of them an almost embarrassing amount of time to remember how to tie the Flat Crest braid required of elven women when in dress uniform. It was even longer for Glen to do it neatly enough for Rhunön to give the plait a passing inspection, the smith’s obsession with perfection not helping matters.
They both hadn’t voiced what was on their minds during the entire, rather exasperating, process. The real reason why they had so much trouble tying what should have been a hairstyle they knew by heart after all these years.
Fäolin had always been the one to do whatever hairstyle was asked of them for official events, even before he joined their squad. He’d laugh at their attempts whenever they returned to the forest, usher them into a chair and deftly weave bright silver or midnight black strands into the designs required in seconds. Arya and Glenwing had simply never had to learn.
Arya let out a rough sigh and tucked her thumbs under either side of the shiny belt clasped around her waist. She missed Wyrda’s familiar weight on her right hip. “This is just another political stunt. I can manage Islanzadí, we’re…I don’t know, figuring it out, I guess. But all of them?” The young elf gestured helplessly, a hint of sharp restlessness and budding frustration in the movement. “Who in the hells knows what they’re going to ask. There’s too many strings here, tangled in too many webs.” She made a face at the metaphors. “At least I’m falling into the stupid formal language again easy enough.”
“And just like that, you’re out of it.” Glen gave the combat liaison another squeeze around the shoulders, pointedly ignoring the open stare of a lone elf sitting in an alcove as they passed. “You can count Iläin to at least be fair. And Rendir’s still pretty fond of you, even if you haven’t really talked since you got back. They’re not all against you, and this is just another debriefing, not some official trial for blame.”
Arya snorted softly. “Oh, we both know blame is going to be a factor. Valaria looked incensed when I said I wasn’t sure how Durza got through the preliminary wards on the outskirts without triggering an alarm. She’s got a lot to explain, but it’s not like I can question her.”
Glen bobbed his head in reluctant agreement. “Yeah…Valaria might be an issue. She was pretty harsh on me when I had my own debriefing.” The medic tapped the tip of each mechanical finger against the end of his metal thumb, running through nerve check after nerve check as he realized a troubling fact. “Däthedr reigned her in, but…”
“But he and the Queen probably won’t do the same for me.” Arya shook her head. “Too much personal history. Any interference could be seen as them interfering with the investigation and trying to shield me.”
“It’s pretty clear there’s nothing to blame you for, even a Mani’s Cave salamander could see that.” The image of Lady Valaria of House Teorann standing at her podium as an eyeless, bioluminescent salamander, constantly pushing the useless spectacles she wore just for show up her slimy tube of a snout, made Arya crack a genuine smile. “Just be polite, don’t give them anything to jump on.”
“Or you could light a fire under their asses, see how they like it.” Both elves looked up, startled that there was already someone waiting outside the doors to the great hall. Brom shook out the match still burning from lighting his pipe and tucked it into a small leather pocket sewn into the inside of his armored coat. “Not literally. Why do I always feel like I have to add that on with you?”
“Because you taught me too well.” Arya flashed her former mentor a sharp toothed grin. “What are you doing here? Don’t you have a remedial study hall to get to, old man?”
Brom grumbled into his beard, pipesmoke wafting up each time his lips parted. He had let the hairs grow again since they arrived, no longer quite as neat or well-kempt but passable as it grew out into a more formidable piece of facial hair. “As if I’d let you in there without an inspection. You’d probably go in with your boots untied and your shirt untucked if I wasn’t here.” He glanced at Glenwing. “Well, if Glen let you get away with it.” The medic gave him a grin of his own, knowing full well that was a lie. Brom cared far more than he ever wanted anyone to know, the sentimental old bastard.
The old Rider gave his former ward a going over with his pipe clamped in his teeth. He tugged her sleeves straight and smoothed the lines of her shoulders, yanked the wrinkles out of the formal jacket by the hem.
“Right. You pass.” His voice was gruff, but there was a certain warmth there. In a move only Glen or Brom could pull off, the man patted Arya’s cheek twice before he clasped her face in his hands. The gedwëy ignasia was rough and warm against her skin, tingling with everpresent magic despite his dragon’s passing. “You did everything you could and more, you hear me? Whatever those high and mighty idiots in there say, you’ve got nothing to be ashamed of and everything to be proud of. Understood?”
Arya searched his face, the determination and buried worry etched into his skin above wild eyebrows and piercing blue eyes. The support she found meant multitudes, the support he had always shown, even when his rage and revenge was all he had in the world. She swore she’d never tell him, but despite the teasing they shared now, the arguments, the sometimes heavy handed tactics to try and prepare her for the world outside Du Weldenvarden…he had been more of a father to her than anyone.
So of course there was only one response.
Brom felt the young elf just barely relax. She smiled at him, beaming, that little spitfire elfling again being reminded of her worth, of all the things she could do in the world. “Yes’sir. Understood.”
“Good girl.” The Rider released her and stepped back, giving her one last onceover. “Give them hell. I’m late for Oromis and Glaedr’s remedial lessons, or whatever you call them.”
“Don’t pull a muscle, old man!” Arya called after his retreating back, getting an annoyed grunt in response.
Glen checked the watch on his wrist as Arya’s smile faded. Two minutes. “You ready?”
The woman sucked in a breath and held it as she snapped to the familiar bearing of Attention, dropping into At Ease for a brief moment before letting the air out in a rush. “No. But it’s not like I can prepare for this bullshit.”
“I’ll be right here. Just yell and I’ll be in there in a heartbeat. Less, even.” Thirty seconds. Glen pulled his commander into one last quick hug before he smoothed out her uniform again. “Verrunsmal äthr.”
Arya pushed her forehead against his and gave him a firm punch to the upper chest. “Verrunsmal äthr.”
Then she turned, straightened with another steadying breath, and entered the great hall.
Hi! So no, I did not make that poat because of a fanart. I actually never interacted with the user you linked, but their art is lovely! This came up after a talk with my mutual, and not related to any post.
I did reblog a bunch of Sansa art where she is a person of color after that reblog of my post, you're right! It's from a friend's blog, @asoiafpoc I highly suggest checking it out :) I also have a bunch of art on my blog before that. And also art of Arya with light skin, and dark skin, just like I have art of all the starks.
You talk about how Arya was "fanonically deemed less politically suave and more brutish", and there's an implication there that I agree with this view, and that's why I think of her as a person of color, and that's why I think she's ugly. The other blogger practically said that. Now, that's one hell of a leap. I am not responsible for what you think I think. I don't think she is more violent or less politically suave (I'm assuming you mean less than Sansa, since she got roped into this whole mess despite her not being in the original post at all). I actually quite like Arya, and really enjoy her later chapters. I think she is extremely social, and we can see that from the beginning of the series, but it really gets highlighted in Braavos. Sorry to disappoint.
I think all of the things you mentioned are very important to talk about. If I had something to say, I would. I don't, and so, I won't. I do plan on making some web weaving for her. I save all my posts under #mb save. You know, the same tag that other blogger cherry picked from the depictions of Sansa for some reason, and ignored the depictions of Arya that didn't fit their narrative.
i'm sorry for bringing this back up but the weird "‼️racist‼️sexist‼️" gotcha with the fanarts on That One Post when you've also rb'd a bunch of indigenous/poc sansa art AND art with pr*tty!arya is soooo. skdjdkskfbsls. like going through tags picking and choosing which art to use to make ppl think YOU think brown=ugly and white=pretty when you're actually just appreciating a bunch of ppl's different takes/reads on characters is genuinely fucked up and insane
"Pr*tty!arya" fhajfkakskkdkajs i love you anon
I agree with you, it really was cherry picking, and bringing a whole different character that wasn't in the original post and wasn't related at all to it. And they chose my friend's highly stylized art of Arya as proof, which really bugged me. The whole "oh you think arya is a person of color so that's why you think she's primitive and tribal and ugly huh!!!" Man. Who said that. Because i didn't say that. You said that and then said I think that.
Also... not to be that person, but as the mixed daughter of a brown latino father and a white mother (also latina, btw) who is actually a completely different color from my dad and my brother... these "oh you think they are different color huh!!!!" No, I don't. And if they were, then... ok. That happens. If you wanna talk about colorism, in-world or in fandom, that's a completely valid conversation to have, one we should be having. But that's not the conversation you want to have, you want to discuss how pretty this 9 year old is. A conversation I simply do not care about, and think it's weird you care this much about.
