Gnome Gmail e Desktop Webmail
Mas para mim isso não funcionou, não sei porque. Encontrei uma alternativa procurando no Google, mas tive que fazer algumas modificações.
Entre em Aplicativos Preferencias;
"Leitor de Email" selecione "Cliente de Email"
Crie um arquivo na sua pasta principal, por exempo: "gmaildefault.sh"
Cole o código abaixo e salve
Execute um "mailto:" no Chromium e selecione para executar o arquivo "gmaildefault.sh"
"Simples assim", haha.
Código:
#!/bin/sh
str=$(echo $1|sed 's/.*mailto:\([^?]*\)?.*/\1/')
notify-send "Abrindo Gmail" "to: `echo $str`" -i /usr/local/share/icons/hicolor/48x48/apps/google-chrome.png -t 5000
chromium-browser "https://mail.google.com/mail/?view=cm&fs=1&tf=1&source=mailto&to=$1"

Nova funcionalidade no Gmail: Preview Pane

dennis the menace pt. II
I figured I'd break the post up into two sections, one with the maintenance issues and the other with the actual stuff. You know, so it's easier on the eyes. Let's get started: Is anyone sick of seeing this guy every time you sign on to webmail? I know you solved the game of checkers and all, but really if that's your claim to fame you need to do something new - that might get you an article in Popular Science but you're not really going that much farther, sorry dude: *** Why is this titled Dennis The Menace? Maybe only progeny that lived during the late-80s and early-90s remember Dennis' skyrocket to fame with his TV cartoons and his lacklustre attempt at the movie. He represented that which all parents are afraid of: That being a juvenile delinquent with a sling shot and a replica James Dean cowboy hat was an alright thing to be. This spawned a generation of kids like me that burned ants with a magnifying glass, threw rocks at seagulls (but never hit them), and climbed onto the roofs of just about every building you could climb on top of. Such rebels we were. As I've been aging, I've forgotten that this mentality still exists out there, even without their Dear Leader Dennis Mitchell. Sometimes boys will just be boys - I got to learn that the other day when my cousins rolled into town from Canmore. Usually I'm preoccupied with studying for midterms or something, but I figured I could take a day off this time since I owed it to them for years of not really hanging out. And so began my re-education to the lives of the modern day teenager. We started the day off early, since kids have no time to sleep in (obviously, there's so much time in a day and not a second to waste!) I remember waking up at 6 AM every Sunday morning to go to Uncle Ron's house (my neighbor) to steal his Capt. Crunch, watch early morning cartoons (X-Men was my favourite), play with his giant dog Penny and pounce around on his trampoline. He'd leave the door open for me the night before because he knew inevitably I'd find my way into the house - which meant I'd be ringing the door bell for a half an hour forcing him to wake up and open it for me. Kids need fuel, so we went to GRB for Dim Sum: The service is still terrible, so we found ourselves at HK Bakery right next door for sticky pork buns, ham & egg buns, weiner buns & egg tarts. We then piled in the car devouring our new-fangled riches, and drove to WEM. I haven't been to the Water Park since I was like six, so here I stand in the locker room in a stagnant pool of someone's old swimsuit water, amid the chatterings of junior high students there on a school field trip loosely tied to learning about the water treatment process of pool water. For three some hours I had the craziest workout I've ever had, trying to fight waves and body surf over the heads of children, fat people lying on tubes and juvenile couples with no sense of privacy. I raced Julian in the Blue Bullet (he won), did the best flying entry into the Twister while yelling 'HUZZAH!', and got my nuts kicked in by when I came down Nessie's Revenge and hit the water nut-first too hard. We stole pool tubes from unsuspecting families that left them lying around (save $5!) and competed to see who could throw Emma the farthest (I can imagine her sinuses must have been full of water by the time we left). After lying in the hot tub for a few minutes and playing around in this crazy interactive water playground that hey must've built recently, we made our way out smelling of chlorine and infant urine. We wound the day down by shopping at H&M and West49, a store I haven't been to since the aggressive inline days of late junior high/early high school (fueled by my crush on Fabiola Da Silva at the time - that Bio 5 was huge hey?). So I suppose all in all the moral of the story is there's still time for you to relive the days of your childhood. If you have some time, might as well do a throwback and go find some Bonkers and some Fun Dip and play the early TMNT on the Nintendo. Grab your old bike and ride over to your girlfriend's house and force her to sit on the bike frame in between your legs. You know, reminisce about times when Walgreen's still existed, when Mac's was Winks, when Soda Licious and Gushers were what you'd trade your whole lunch to Shea for.

Power to the people: Introducing better ways to compose mail and view contacts
Your inbox isn’t simply about messages, it’s about the people that you email. So today, we’re announcing two big improvements in how you view and reach out to friends, family and colleagues in Yahoo Mail.
Tumblr media
Note: The improvements we are announcing below have begun rolling out to millions of users starting today. For those who are not yet seeing the upgraded features in their webmail interface, you can get to the top of the upgrade list here.
The first big improvement comes when composing email. Now when you start typing in the to, cc or bcc lines, you’ll see the following dramatic improvements:
All email addresses at your fingertips: We’ve all become accustomed to our inbox remembering email addresses we’ve used in the past and auto-suggesting them when we type, even if we didn’t add the information to our address books. Yahoo Mail has taken this feature one step further. Now, Yahoo Mail remembers every email address you’ve ever used or even seen in your inbox, and suggests the best one to use. There are even new ways to find people: just enter the first few characters of someone’s name, email address, initials, or even their company or school name and Mail will instantly suggest the best person.
Photos and Names: Now instead of [email protected] you’ll see the full name and photo of the person you are emailing more often - making it easier to make sure you’re emailing the right person. Photos are shown from Facebook and Yahoo Profiles.  To see as many photos as possible, be sure to link your Yahoo account to Facebook.
Picking the right group of people for your email: When you want to send an email to more than one person, the new smart auto-suggest will instantly suggest the three most likely recipients (and their best email address) based on your previous emails. Auto-suggest is constantly learning and improving. For many emails, you should be able to add everyone you need to an email without typing another letter after the first recipient is selected.
To get even more out of the new auto-suggest, save time by just hitting the down arrow before you type a letter and we’ll show six top contacts from which to choose. Of course, if you ever see an email address you’d prefer to hide, just click on the “X” to the right of the suggestion.
Next up, we’re now surfacing more details about your contacts by giving you a quick snapshot of your most recent interactions with someone. So if you’ve had a long email thread with a friend about an upcoming vacation, simply navigate over to your contacts and select your friend’s name to quickly see the latest emails and attachments they’ve sent you about the trip.
Tumblr media
This feature is rolling out to U.S. webmail users over the next day or so.
We’re excited to be leveraging technology from Xobni, which Yahoo acquired last year, to power these two new features. To help us improve your experience even more in the future, please let us know what you think!

UTmail: For some reason...
This new Google powered utexas.edu mail account is making me super stoked.
I probably pissed off at least 4 other Michael Zhengs who wanted that email account, too.

Improving Performance with RoundCube Webmail
There are many contenders in the market of web-based email clients, few distinguish themselves as much as Roundcube . Although I harbor within myself a profound loathing for any product whose sole star feature is the fact that it uses AJAX, Roundcube has done a great job of using it in such a way that truly streamlines performance and also makes setup a breeze. A similar product by AfterLogic called "MailBee" also markets itself on its AJAX mechanisms however is in my opinion quite a let down in both performance and usability for the 199$ basic edition price tag. Zimbra webmail is also AJAX based however requires at least 1 GB available memory just for the development installation , production requires in upwards of 2GB.
The only issue I found with Roundcube was the performance factor. Here I have gathered together and outlined several tips that helped me get the most out of this webmail suite.
Note to ISPConfig Users: I found that it was best to install roundcube manually and create a manual virtual hosts entry. Otherwise, the database will not be properly configured and virtusertable will not properly be used. Resulting in an inability to save identity information effectively 1. Configuration
Assuming you are installing Roundcube on a different machine as the webserver. $rcmail_config['enable_caching'] = TRUE; $rcmail_config['skip_deleted'] = FALSE; Otherwise it would be best to leave caching off, caching stores all emails in the DB - is best for few accounts and those having difficulty with IMAP connections. - by MarcB
2. Caching Images
Although I haven't personally tried this, here is a patch to place in your images/.htaccess to speed up the loading of images - by seansean
Index: roundcubemail/skins/default/images/.htaccess =================================================================== --- roundcubemail/skins/default/images/.htaccess (revision 0) +++ roundcubemail/skins/default/images/.htaccess (revision 0) @@ -0,0 +1,5 @@ +### activate mod_expires +ExpiresActive On +### Expire .gif's 1 day from when they're accessed +ExpiresByType image/gif A86400 +ExpiresByType image/png A86400 \ No newline at end of file Although I can't remember where I heard this, but its been said that you can convert the png's to gif files and then save them in gif format as PNG's. Doesn't sound right, but apparently leads to huge speed improvements by bypassing PNG loading 3. Code Optimization
There is a client side optimization and a server side optimization. For the server side , you would use an opcode cache - there is a tutorial for xCache and a tutorial for APC on Ubuntu. If you decide to install APC from source I will say that if you have php5 to run phpize5 instead of phpize and pass php-config5 instead of php-config to ./configure for a modest performance boost.
Javascript Optimization
The total JS for roundcube is absolutely scary - and honestly is my biggest criticism of the package. Although its interface animations and AJAX implementation patterns are implemented quite gracefully, the code and methods used to achieve that effect are another story. The total JS for roundcube is 156kb. You can cut that down to 96KB by using an Javascript Optimization/Compresion utility. I used Dojo ShrinkSafe. Once you get the final file (after adding the app.js, common.js and googiespell.js). You will have to edit some of the source to use the new file (I added common.js last so the result was common.compressed.js). Put this file in lib/js
You can run from the webmail root grep -R "app.js" . to find all references to app.js, likewise with common.js in program/include/main.inc change the lines $OUTPUT->include_script('program/js/common.js'); $OUTPUT->include_script('program/js/app.js'); to $OUTPUT->include_script('program/js/common.compressed.js'); And finally find all references to googiespell.js using the same command as above and comment them out as it has now been included in common.compressed.js
4. Optimize Apache
If you are running apache, you may want to optimize your server configuration, and also a2enmod (enable the modules) mod_deflate and mod_cache.
5. Optimize your Mail Domain Setup
This got me. Even with all the above modifications , I was still getting 50 seconds to login. I eventually figured it out though, I had given RC the address of my mail server - and I wondered why I couldn't just say localhost to skip name resolution. Then it hit me. Name Resolution. Please ensure that in your /etc/hosts (c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts) that along with 127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain www.mydomain.com That there is also an entry for whatever mail server you are accessing with RC. 127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain www.mydomain.com mail.mydomain.com Upon changing that, the login time went from 50.35 seconds to 1.7 seconds
Good Luck

Microsoft Replaces Hotmail With Outlook
Microsoft is planning a major overhauling of its free webmail service, dropping the Hotmail brand it has used since acquiring the product in 1998.
The company see the re-branding of Hotmail, now known as Outlook.com, will make email feel easy and less cluttered.
The service will immediately help sort messages as soon as they arrive. Outlook will also allow users to make internet calls on Skype.
These changes were needed as many believe Microsoft had been put into the shadows by Google's Gmail service. What do you think of Outlook.com?

On webmail, why isn't send the left-most option (to mimic the desktop version)? That's just poor UX. Also, WTF does "Send & File" mean?
