Although the siphon has a length of 10 meters, it can be passed especially in summer. After this point, the cave continues as two branches in the direction of water entrance along with the extremely beautiful formations. The cave continuing for 1200 meters and ends with a sediment filling. (The port after this point is not known, yet.) While the creeks and inner lakes are passed easily by walking, sudden flood occurs during big rains. Because of this danger, it is suitable to enter the cave in summer and autumn seasons. Kızılelma Cave Location: Zonguldak The cave which is situated in Kizil Elma quarter of Ayiçi Village of Gelik District of Zonguldak Province can easily be reached by cars. Properties: Water of Aydin Creek ve Büyük Ay Creek sinks at the active inlet. The cave is entered through the fossil inlet (30x10m.) located at the upper part, and after 100 meters water is met. The cave continues horizontally together with the water. After the first 100 meters, it is possible to go by creeping for 400 meters, a siphon of 10 meters exists. This siphon can be passed in the Autumn. The gallery in the cave has great dimensions after the siphon. At the 3200th m. of the cave which continues as a single active gallery basically, there is a chimney with the height of 80 meters which is enough to illuminate the lake at the base. The cave continuing 3 km. along with the lakes ends with the 2nd siphon. The researches related with some branches and the last siphon in the cave has not been concluded, yet. It has been determined via the researches carried out by paint experiments that the sunk water appears in Cumayani Cave after 2 km. Thus, the total length of the underground system (Kizilelma – Cumayani) reaches to 10kms. Once, it was the longest cave system of Turkey. However, when it has been discovered that Pinargözü Cave has a length of 12 km. in 1991, this cave has been placed in the 2nd order. Its siphons, areas of crippling, lakes and funnel of 80 meters are the characteristics, or perhaps the most exciting aspects of the cave. As there is a danger of flood in the rainy periods, the season and the weather forecast should be taken into consideration while entering the cave. İnağzı Cave Location: Zonguldak It is a cave situated in the city of Zonguldak province at the sea coast at the 15th km of Kilimli road. Properties: The entry to the cave with a total length of 800m is made from the fossil inlet facing the sea. After a hole one man can hardly pass at the 50th meter it continues sporadically with fossils and rich formations and sporadically with an underground creek. There exists a siphon at the 400th meter, and it can be distinguished by walking in the period when water is drawn. From here, it ends with the siphon after 400 meters. Cumayanı Cave Location: Zonguldak, Çatalağzı District It is situated in Cumayani quarter at 3 km. distance from Çatalagzi district of Zonguldak province. Properties: It forms the outlet of Kizilelma -Cumayani underground water system. It is opened to outside with many inlets. The hall is reached through a active gallery of 100 meters from the lower inlet or by walking for 75 meters from the upper fossil dry inlet. The hall begins with a travertine offering an extraordinary beauty and functioning as a bridge on the underground creek. The base of the hall, which has a height of 60 meters and a length of 70 meters, is covered with a thick sea layer and ends with a siphon. Upon going in the direction of water entrance to the left of the travertine, the siphon is reached in the direction of Kizilelma Cave. A boat is necessary in this gallery. As flood occurs in the rainy periods or at the times of a sudden rain, there is mortal danger. NATIONAL & NATURAL PARKS Zonguldak Nature Protection Area Zonguldak – Çitdere Nature Reserve Location: The area is in Sekermese, in the Yenice area of Zonguldak, in the western Black Sea region. A fossil of a ginormous flying reptile has just been discovered in Australia
https://sciencespies.com/nature/a-fossil-of-a-ginormous-flying-reptile-has-just-been-discovered-in-australia/
A fossil of a ginormous flying reptile has just been discovered in Australia
The most significant pterosaur fossil ever discovered in Australia has been unearthed in the Winton area of central western Queensland.
The newly discovered species, which my colleagues and I have named Ferrodraco lentoni, had a wingspan of about 4 metres (13 feet). It lived around 96 million years ago, and was surprisingly similar to other pterosaurs from England, suggesting that these huge flying reptiles could traverse the globe with relative ease.
Pterosaurs are quite rare in the fossil record, as their bones are hollow and the outer bone in most instances is only 1 millimetre thick. Only 15 pterosaur specimens have ever been scientifically described from Australia, many of them incomplete.
Until recently, only two species of Australian pterosaur had been described: Mythunga camara and Aussiedraco molnari, both based on fossil skull fragments.
Although more complete fossils of similar pterosaurs are known from Brazil and China, until this discovery, our understanding of the pterosaurs that lived in Australia during the Cretaceous period was limited.
The new pterosaur specimen, unveiled today in the journal Scientific Reports, includes a partial skull, five partial neck vertebrae, and bones from both the left and right wings.
This particular individual represents a fully grown adult, based on the fusion seen in several bones. Judging by its wing bones and the dimensions of similar pterosaurs, Ferrodraco would have had a wingspan of about 4 metres, with a skull probably reaching 60 centimetres (24 inches) in length. It is likely that it ate mainly fish.
The genus name Ferrodraco refers to the fact that this winged reptile was found preserved in ironstone. And the species name lentoni honours former Winton Shire mayor Graham “Butch” Lenton, in recognition of his service to the community. The Winton area has within recent decades produced several well-preserved dinosaur fossils.
Ferrodraco lived 96 million years ago, around lake and river systems surrounded by conifer forests. Based on other fossil evidence, this pterosaur shared its environment with several dinosaurs including the sauropods Diamantinasaurus and Savannasaurus, theropods such as Australovenator, ornithopods and ankylosaurs. Competing with Ferrodraco for fish in the freshwater river systems were crocodylomorphs (such as Isisfordia) and plesiosaurs.
(Pentland et al., Scientific Reports, 2019)
Game-changer
The Ferrodraco specimen was discovered by Winton grazier Bob Elliott in April 2017 when he was spraying weedkiller along the banks of a creek on Belmont Station. It’s not the first major fossil find on Belmont Station – the unique sauropod dinosaur Savannasaurus elliottorum was discovered just 10 kilometres (6 miles) from the pterosaur site.
Unlike other fossil sites in the Winton area, the pterosaur remains were found in the banks of a creek and had likely been exposed to the elements for several years. One bone from the wing had even been kicked away from the main site by livestock travelling through the creek. Had the bones not been infiltrated by iron-rich fluids, which ultimately became ironstone, these precious fossils would have been lost to erosion many years ago.
Unlike many other fossils, the bones were covered by a thin layer of rock. This meant that Ferrodraco had an unusually quick journey (by palaeontological standards) from discovery to scientific publication.
Preparation of the specimen was finished within a week by preparator Ali Calvey. Even before the bones had been fully prepared, our team was able to make detailed observations and determine which family of pterosaurs this specimen belonged to.
Surprisingly, Ferrodraco shows closer ties with similarly aged pterosaurs from England than it does to those from South America. This suggests that these pterosaurs, collectively known as ornithocheirids, could easily fly across oceans and disperse between continents.
This idea has been put forward by other palaeontologists, but the dearth of material from Australia had made it difficult to verify until now.
Ferrodraco has changed the game in that regard, demonstrating that it was living at least as recently as its Northern Hemisphere ornithocheirid cousins. In fact, it might represent one of the geologically youngest ornithocheirids ever found.
Although more work needs to be done to demonstrate this, Ferrodraco is nevertheless one of the most important pterosaur specimens ever found in Australia.

Denver’s 4th Annual Collaboration Beer Fest Features More Than 100+ Unique Brews
February 16, 2017
Denver – The fourth annual Collaboration Beer Fest returns to Denver on Saturday, March 25, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. –  7:00 p.m. at the National Western Stock Show Complex (4655 Humboldt St., Denver CO 80216). Collaboration Fest is the headline event of Colorado Craft Beer Week, which runs March 18th – 25th.
“This year we have more than 100 unique collaborative beers from 154 breweries, 20 states and even Finland, Sweden, and Italy,” said Steve Kurowski, director of operations for the Colorado Brewers Guild. “Collaboration Fest has surpassed all expectations from when we first started talking about the idea of this beer festival. There is no other beer tasting event like this in the country.”
Collaboration Fest is a unique beer festival in that each beer is created specifically for this event. Colorado Brewers Guild members team up with breweries from near and far to create one-time-only beers, and share a story about how and why a certain beer is created. This festival was created by Two Parts and the Colorado Brewers Guild in 2014, as a way to give brewers the opportunity to brew a unique beer with another brewery.
Collaboration Fest showcases the collaborative nature of the craft beer industry. Each brewery choose who they want to work with, and what style of beer they want to make, allowing for the brewers’ imagination to run wild. Many of these beers will only be available at the festival.

Collaboration Fest is a pillar of what it means to be a part of the Colorado craft beer industry and celebrate our successes and dreams in a fun and inviting environment.”
