Hey remember when Tumblr banned porn and everyone fled to Twitter and the internet by and large became that much more insufferable? Yeah well, we’re about to get the sequel no one’s been waiting for
Tumblr media
A recent lawsuit is calling into question the very law that makes user-generated content possible on the internet and it’s going before a bunch of old people who have no idea how the internet works. If Section 230 gets repealed or modified, the internet as we know it will radically change forever. Content policing will be that much worse; and either the guidelines will be so restrictive it’ll squeeze the life out of their sites, or sites will close their doors all together by not being able to meet the moderation demand and not wanting to risk being liable.
Unlike SOPA way back in the day, this one is quietly flying under everyone’s radar so there’s no big pushback like last time, so there is a very real possibility this goes down in the worst way possible. So Yeah Ya’ll may want to start saving your favorite content if you feel it’s going to go bye-bye

You know what i think is an interesting concept?
The elves know war, but like specifically one 1 kind of war with the occasional stray into another kind.
And that is, elves (from what we’ve read) know war against 1 evil enemy. Like, a war where they are indisputably the good guys.
But continues war where there are 2 sides that simply disagree with each other? They don’t know how to go about that!
The closest they’ve come is the feanorian massacres, but even then it’s more like a few very direct instances of battle rather than a full scale war.
Furthermore, the war they are used to is against a god, essentially, and it’s deformed, damned minions. Not against a different government with normal elves or anything.
There also hasn’t (really) been an instance of civil war or violence breaking out due to discrimination. Cause there’s lowkey discrimination amongst elves in tolkein, but it’s not erupted in an actual war, yk?
Idk, i just find it fascinating how these successful elven generals and war heroes know about counter strategies and army manuevering, but at the same time wouldn’t really understand the use of say suicide pills/espionage/assassination. Things that you can use to get inside the enemy’s domain and turn the tide against them there.
I’m not saying that elves are bad at combat or war, but it’s more limited to direct confrontation than anything else. And they probably have dipped their toes in on the other ways to do it, but, like i said, it’s rather limited as (other than the feanorian bs) from what we’ve seen (i’m only refering to what’s written and not what we might believe the silvan and avari and other elves have done) the elves are, generally, a pretty united front and they aren’t inclined to turn on one another.
It’s not that the elves are naive or don’t know how the world works, but there’s definitely an area of how war works that they’ve barely discovered.

because i am a huge nerd, i decided to calculate how many eye combinations you can make with the @pralinesims DIeYe kit + addons. feel free to point out any mistakes as i don't have a lot of experience with this type of calculation!
firstly, i'll consider only the base kit, without the addons. luckily for me, pralinesims listed how many swatches are available for each item, which makes my life a lot easier! (full credits to them for the image below!! taken from this post)
Tumblr media
now that i know how many swatches each item has, i need to know how many items i can have on a sim simultaneously and which ones conflict with each other. in the basic kit, all of the items can be used at once, which makes up a total of 11 items - the main color, available as either face paint or non-default eyes, and 11 other assets, available as tattoos.
some important things to consider: the 3 catchlight packs are 3 different items with 100 swatches each, and these 3 items can be used all at once; in order to consider the absence of certain items also a possibility, i will be adding +1 to the number of swatches of each item. this means that the result i get in the end will include combinations that lack most of the items which technically doesn't make an entire eye, but i will still account for for the sake of knowing how many combinations you can make in total. (one of the combinations that will be counted is the one that doesn't have any items at all, so feel free to subtract 1 from the final result.)
if i'm not mistaken, it should be as easy as multiplying each number of swatches: 71*101*101*101*91*121*121*121*41*36*41 = 713658080539339171236. which is a HUGE number. but what about the addons?
once again, pralinesims made my task a lot easier by listing how many swatches each item has: "This addon pack includes…
3 new secondary eye color packs, all come in the DIY 120 base colors.
3 new third eye color packs, all come in the 120 colors too.
New catchlights in 60 versions.
New pupils in 100 versions." (taken from this post)
BUT some of the new items can't be used at the same time as some items from the base kit. in order to avoid my results including false possibilities, i'll consider the new items as "extra swatches" for the items they conflict with. for example: the pupils in the addons occupy the same "slot" as the pupils in the basic kit (upper right arm tattoo). so, i'll be adding 100 (from the number of swatches of the addon pupils) to the 71 i already had from the pupils in the basic kit, for a total of 171 pupil swatches. if i do this for every item that conflicts (other than the pupils), i obtain: - 360 addon second eye colors, for a total of 481; - 360 addon third eye colors, for a total of 481; - 60 addon catchlights swatches, which conflict with one of the base catchlight packs, so we can consider one of the packs as having 161 swatches. now to multiply everything! 171*161*101*101*91*121*481*481*41*36*41 = 43296407611943775605316. if anyone has any idea how the hell these numbers are pronounced, please tell me, i'd love to know!
i sincerely hope there are no mistakes in this. i double checked everything, but like i said i don't have a lot of experience, so there's a good chance i got something wrong. if you read all of this, thank you, but also, sorry.

I just saw this post yesterday, are the Amish actually considered a cult?? From what I’ve seen and read about, they’re a pretty chill group, do they actually punish people who seek to leave?
I'll be real, I am deeply unqualified to talk about this; I encourage you to do your own research. I only commented on that post because it seemed like people didn't realize that "shunning" has a particular meaning in those spaces - like, yes at the surface I can see why people thought it was funny, but in context "shunning" isn't just your friends being a bit mad at you. It's an institutional punishment.
Questions like "what is a cult" are probably above my paygrade, but I feel comfortable answering "are they chill" with "no."
Many public-facing aspects would love for you to think that they're chill, and the chillness definitively also depends on the specific group you're talking about.
(Many people just say "Amish" and call it done, but the Amish are only one of a number of "avoid modern tech" groups, and they all have splinter subgroups with various differences; Mennonites are the other major branch of Anabaptists that do this.)
Ok I really. Don't want to try to get into this whole thing. there's probably a book you can read or something. But I don't want to leave you with absolutely nothing, so here's an Amish-authored explanation of shunning that I found:
link here
This is from a website used to sell Amish-made goods, so I think we can be pretty confident that this is attempting to present Amish culture in the best light possible. Here's some quotes:
"Because of this, being shunned can take a massive toll on a person. It’s difficult for someone to survive without the support they’ve grown accustomed to, and shunning can also make it nearly impossible for a person to earn a living." "This is what makes shunning so effective in keeping the community together and ensuring everyone sticks to the agreed-upon community rules." "The Amish practice shunning out of concern for a person. By shunning someone, they hope to get someone to see errors in their behavior, change it and return to the community." "Sins like fornication, adultery, stealing, and lying are all offenses worthy of shunning. This is to discourage other members of the community from committing the same sin."
So, even when presented in an article specifically designed to make this sound like a nice and reasonable thing, "shunning" is explicitly endangering a person by isolating them and cutting off their income, in order to (1) force them to admit fault and return to following the rules (2) make an example of them to scare other people into sticking to the rules.
This is high-control behavior, to put it mildly.
And that's even without getting into the actual specifics of what the rules are. Remember that these are, fundamentally, traditional Christian organizations. Most of them didn't suddenly become cool about women's rights and gay people. Divorce is one of the reasons that article lists for shunning.
Ok I'm sure I already put my foot in it somewhere and I'm really not an expert here. If you have specific research questions that you stumble on you can come back and ask and I'll see if I can help.

im on sheezy.art now?!!
caught wind of this comeback a little bit ago and i was just so intrigued by it. i love the tumblr elements of it, and it looks promising. ive had a nice time customizing, and will surely enjoy browsing for new artists to follow
i have a 10 daily upload limit (understandable if annoying, its a new website! cant strain the servers!) so it will take me a couple weeks at least to catch up on the last couple years of artwork. not everything will be cross-posted! i may limit it to personal ocs, so kittyquest may not make it over there
this tumblr will remain unchanged. its still my favorite place to upload art, despite everything :P
⚠⚠⚠ there will be nsfw posted there! you will need to be 18+ to follow me. but their tagging system seems pretty robust!

I do not know why I have to prove to how white feminists have been justifying colonization FOREVER by using misogyny against Indian women by Indian men as a justified form of explanation!
Please stop acting like woc are some crazy liars and too aggressive or dramatic for pointing racism in feminist spaces out.
@bittern-badfem-harpy
You can literally just search up white feminists and colonial india on Google or any similar keywords to know what I am talking about. This is literally one of the most popular central arguments in Indian feminist work around colonial period and the imperialism that ensued post independence.
I am not going to spoon feed you to read and understand theory now.
Why do white women always have to act like we're lying about the racism we face in their spaces?
Also you're literally proving my point here.
"Forced to endure pieces of metal jabbed onto their bodies for ornamental purposes"
You can just say you think we're savages please the way you're acting like it's such an excruciating experience when it's not.
It's bad. It's wrong but not only are we fine you are exaggerating shit too much.
Also we don't have those "pieces of metal jabbed" for ornamental purposes. This is such an oversimplification of why it actually happens.
There are religious reasons behind it (not relating to female oppression but more spiritual reasons).
But you're surely going to ignore it aren't you because it doesn't serve your narrative that this is a traditionally patriarchal activity? (When it's factually not)
And the tags are a fucking joke and proof modern radfems don't read anything. What 21st radical feminists (in Western countries) oppose imperialism?
Rather it were older feminists like Carol Hanisch and Susan Brownmiller who formed the anti imperialist+ anti capitalist tenets in radical feminism 🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️
