Y'all I know that when so-called AI generates ridiculous results it's hilarious and I find it as funny as the next guy but I NEED y'all to remember that every single time an AI answer is generated it uses 5x as much energy as a conventional websearch and burns through 10 ml of water. FOR EVERY ANSWER. Each big llm is equal to 300,000 kiligrams of carbon dioxide emissions.
LLMs are killing the environment, and when we generate answers for the lolz we're still contributing to it.
Stop using it. Stop using it for a.n.y.t.h.i.n.g. We need to kill it.

Not telling y'all that you should be able to identify AI slop (but it is a valuable skill, you totes should), but if you're to be accusing artists of being AI left and right at least go and do your homework, or at least do the bare minimum and use AI identification tools like Hive Moderation, so you 1- don't ruin someone's lifehood 2- don't make a clown out of yourself maybe
Like, i get it, AI slop and "AI artists" pretending to be genuine is getting harder and harder to identify, but just accusing someone out of the blue and calling it a day doesn't make it any better.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The AI clowns shifted to styles that have less "tells" and the AI arts are becoming better. Yeah, it sucks ass.
They're also integrating them with memes, so you chuckle and share, like those knights with pink backgrounds, some cool frog and a funny one liner, so you get used to their aesthetic.
Tumblr media
This is an art from the new coming set Final Fantasy for MtG. This is someone on Reddit accusing someone of using AI. From what i can tell, and i fucking hate AI, there is NO AI used on this image.
As far as i can tell and as far as any tool i've used, the Artist didn't use AI. which leads to the next one:
Tumblr media
they accused the artist of this one of using Ai. the name of this artist is Nestor Ossandon.
Tumblr media
He as already been FALSELY ACCUSED of using AI, because he drew a HAND THAT LOOKED A LITTLE WEIRD, which caused a statement from D&D Beyond, confirming that no AI has been used.
Not to repeat mysef, they're accusing the art above, that is by Nestor, to have used Ai.
REAL artists are not machines. And just like the AI slop, we are not perfect and we make mistakes. The hands we draw have wonky fingers sometimes. The folds we draw are weird. But we are REAL. We are real people. And hey, some of our "mistakes" sometimes are CHOICES. Artistic choices are a thing yo.
If you're to accuse someone of using Ai, i know it's getting hard to identify. But come on. At least do your due diligence.

this doesn't seem to be widespread knowledge around here yet but there's a big trend among dogshit content scraper accounts to grab a real photo (usually of ✨Aesthetic Nature™✨ or something similar, which is why it's relevant to me) somewhere, and recreate it using AI to avoid crediting the photographer. this can even trick people who are somewhat familiar with the subject matter if they're not paying attention but looks incredibly wrong upon closer inspection
Tumblr media Tumblr media
here is some complete garbage as an example. because these "photos" are not completely made up by AI, people into spiders know the species and will recognize their features without looking closely, getting tricked in the process. if you know spider anatomy and look closely though, both of those look like utter abominations. the original photos these two were based on are here and here, by the way
these just so happen to be things i'm familiar with and i would probably get easily fooled by AI recreations of plants or fish or whatever. my point is that if you're not an expert on everything that exists you're not immune to these, so i would probably recommend caring about photo sources unless you actively want to look at this repulsive trash

one 100 word email written with ai costs roughly one bottle of water to produce. the discussion of whether or not using ai for work is lazy becomes a non issue when you understand there is no ethical way to use it regardless of your intentions or your personal capabilities for the task at hand
with all due respect, this isnt true. *training* generative ai takes a ton of power, but actually using it takes about as much energy as a google search (with image generation being slightly more expensive). we can talk about resource costs when averaged over the amount of work that any model does, but its unhelpful to put a smokescreen over that fact. when you approach it like an issue of scale (i.e. "training ai is bad for the environment, we should think better about where we deploy it/boycott it/otherwise organize abt this) it has power as a movement. but otherwise it becomes a personal choice, moralizing "you personally are harming the environment by using chatgpt" which is not really effective messaging. and that in turn drives the sort of "you are stupid/evil for using ai" rhetoric that i hate. my point is not whether or not using ai is immoral (i mean, i dont think it is, but beyond that). its that the most common arguments against it from ostensible progressives end up just being reactionary
Tumblr media
i like this quote a little more- its perfectly fine to have reservations about the current state of gen ai, but its not just going to go away.

As cameras becomes more normalized (Sarah Bernhardt encouraging it, grifters on the rise, young artists using it), I wanna express how I will never turn to it because it fundamentally bores me to my core. There is no reason for me to want to use cameras because I will never want to give up my autonomy in creating art. I never want to become reliant on an inhuman object for expression, least of all if that object is created and controlled by manufacturing companies. I paint not because I want a painting but because I love the process of painting. So even in a future where everyone’s accepted it, I’m never gonna sway on this.
if i have to explain to you that using a camera to take a picture is not the same as using generative ai to generate an image then you are a fucking moron.
#ask me#anon#no more patience for this#i've heard this for the past 2 years#“an object created and controlled by companies” anon the company cannot barge into your home and take your camera away#or randomly change how it works on a whim. you OWN the camera that's the whole POINT#the entire point of a camera is that i can control it and my body to produce art. photography is one of the most PHYSICAL forms of artmakin#you have to communicate with your space and subjects and be conscious of your position in a physical world.#that's what makes a camera a tool. generative ai (if used wholesale) is not a tool because it's not an implement that helps you#do a task. it just does the task for you. you wouldn't call a microwave a “tool”#but most importantly a camera captures a REPRESENTATION of reality. it captures a specific irreproducible moment and all its data#read Roland Barthes: Studium & Punctum#generative ai creates an algorithmic IMITATION of reality. it isn't truth. it's the average of truths.#while conceptually that's interesting (if we wanna get into media theory) but that alone should tell you why a camera and ai aren't the sam#ai is incomparable to all previous mediums of art because no medium has ever solely relied on generative automation for its creation#no medium of art has also been so thoroughly constructed to be merged into online digital surveillance capitalism#so reliant on the collection and commodification of personal information for production#if you think using a camera is “automation” you have worms in your brain and you need to see a doctor#if you continue to deny that ai is an apparatus of tech capitalism and is being weaponized against you the consumer you're delusional#the fact that SO many tumblr lefists are ready to defend ai while talking about smashing the surveillance state is baffling to me#and their defense is always “well i don't engage in systems that would make me vulnerable to ai so if you own an apple phone that's on you”#you aren't a communist you're just self-centered

A very interesting thing about Daniil Dankovsky (at least in Patho Classic, I’m not far enough into Patho 2 to have a full grasp of his character there) is that he’s a very good representation of how being a caring person can turn you genuinely kind of hateful, it’s such a sticking point to me that a lot of the hatred he holds towards other characters in the game is rooted in the fact that they’re callous towards the needs and wants of other people, be it the whole ‘leaders of the town fighting each other for power during a deadly plague’, be it his loss of respect for Vlad Jr when he finds out about the medicine testing, or even his bitter hatred for Aglaya when he realises that she doesn’t really care about saving people and being an impartial judge WHICH IS HER JOB, just about spiting The Powers That Be. So many times the reason he begins to resent certain characters is when he realises that they don’t care for others and view their own wants and needs as more important than others. A la, his hatred towards others is rooted in his love for humanity.
So on that note, I think that if Daniil Dankovsky existed in todays society he would despise generative AI, in this essay I will-

jared padalecki and jensen ackles boston con 2025 - gold panel
cheerleading and (allegedly non-existent) short shorts
#j2#j2 cons#boscon#boscon 2025#if bring it on (2000) taught the general public anything about cheerleading it's you need dudes for big stunts#and it's doesn't mean anything about anything other than a chance to hang out with girls#and get to toss them around. and hopefully not be a creep about it#jared padalecki#jensen ackles#j2 gifs#jacheer#like i mentioned in the alt i don't know what Jared was using air quotes for#i.... see how it could be interpreted as casting doubt on it being his gf-which i don't think is the case#but i'm coming up blank on other reasons. doubting she was the captain? lol#j2gifs#mygifs#i was a cheerleader in high school and i was a base aka the person throwing and catching people#my arms were basically constantly bruised from being stepped on for basket tosses#my school was very small then though and i'm pretty sure we didn't have a key club - which apparently is affiliated with kiwanis#which i had no idea. i'd heard the phrase before but had no clue what it was#they do have one now along with a million other clubs because the school quadrupled in size since i went lol#i was originally gonna get the uncle jared bits from this panel. and then the double triple quad banger bits#but got overwhelmed and ended up in this section so here we go#public service announcement that jensen was not a cheerleader but did help with stunts occasionally#jared joked about using ai to make a picture of jensen in hs cheer short shorts out of the cannon but plz no ;(#and as a former cheerleader (aka a total expert 🤪) i agree that no he wasn't a cheerleader#helping with stunts occasionally during football games a cheerleader does not make#maaaaybe a little thank you credit on the yearbook page :p
