#content scraping

this doesn't seem to be widespread knowledge around here yet but there's a big trend among dogshit content scraper accounts to grab a real photo (usually of ✨Aesthetic Nature™✨ or something similar, which is why it's relevant to me) somewhere, and recreate it using AI to avoid crediting the photographer. this can even trick people who are somewhat familiar with the subject matter if they're not paying attention but looks incredibly wrong upon closer inspection

here is some complete garbage as an example. because these "photos" are not completely made up by AI, people into spiders know the species and will recognize their features without looking closely, getting tricked in the process. if you know spider anatomy and look closely though, both of those look like utter abominations. the original photos these two were based on are here and here, by the way

these just so happen to be things i'm familiar with and i would probably get easily fooled by AI recreations of plants or fish or whatever. my point is that if you're not an expert on everything that exists you're not immune to these, so i would probably recommend caring about photo sources unless you actively want to look at this repulsive trash

I've been seeing a lot about that AI company scraping ao3 for works and I know everyone has been filing DMCA take down claims for their work. The OTW has also filed on ao3 users behalf for the stolen works.

The good news is, that the data set has been temporarily taken down but the "creator" of it has filed a counter claim.

And after getting lost down a comment spital (which you can read here) its clear that the "creator" believes that they have a right to it since our works are based off of copyrighted content.

Their exact words in the thread linked were: "You do realise AO3 is a far more viable target for a DMCA than this dataset, right?"

As someone who knows a fair bit about copyright, this is so ignorant. If they bothered to do 5 minutes of googling then they'd see that when the materials are changed and non-profit then it is NOT a viable target.

To everyone who filed a claim and protected your works, keep it up!! People like this need to be shown that stealing from writers, artists and other creatives WILL NOT BE TAKEN LYING DOWN.

Right. There's like basically nothing when it comes to fics for Sheldon in the big bang theory so I'm just going to start posting my thoughts to hopefully spark others into posting as well.

Keep in mind I've just properly started season 1 and I mostly watched the show before 2014 so I was younger than 10 years old

Currently swirling through my brain for translator!reader x sheldon cooper:

Translator!reader who is also a certified interpretor and assists foreign scientists when they are guest speakers at caltech.

No clue how this works in relation to the shows timeline but the mistranslation of Revenge of the Sith is something we talk about in my translation classes A LOT. I'm imagining a meet-cute involving comic book store, translator!reader and her friend joking about the mistranslation/explaining how the mistranslation was occured and Sheldon and Howard over hearing/joining the discussion.

This fandom isn't dead we just need to start creating our own content. We can't all be consumers.
