Core + Core refresh redesigns

Clawdeen - I feel like Clawdeen doesn’t have an established fashion style and she doesn’t have a consistent color palette, it really bothered me. So I blocked out her color scheme and used more blacks: I wanted to give her an edgier look, similar to her OG design in G1, but also respecting her G3 version by keeping her bomber jacket.

Draculaura - I never liked her original outfit: I feel like there’s too much pink and not enough black, I don’t like her headband and her cloak. But most of all I despise those shorts! And also I feel like using patterned designs on the original dolls feels too cheap. I think that her core refresh is a vast improvement from her first doll, but I still wanted to change some things.

I personally dislike when dolls clothes feel plastic-y, I like touching the fabric so it really bothers me when I see so much plastic.

I decided to give her more ruffles ( a nod to her G1 doll ) and to keep the gilet but I changed the shirt underneath to incorporate more white in the design. I LOVED the hat! It reminds me so much of Lydia Deetz so I kept it.

Frankie - while their design is one of my faves in G3, I wanted to give my own spin to it. Their color palette is based on their G1 doll, I’ve always liked Frankie’s grungy look with all the tartan and the stitches. I also wanted to give them a more androgynous look, I was torn between giving them a long half skirt or not, but in the end I gave them pants. I wanted to give a more scholar, preppy look but with darker colours. I don’t personally like the pastels on Frankie.

Cleo - I feel like her og doll is cute. BUT PLEASE GIVE OUR GIRL PANTS!!! I don’t get why g3 dolls can’t wear pants ( not shorts ).

Anyways I based my design on 70s clothes, I was inspired by ABBA’s outfits in all of their shimmery glory. I also changed her palette from light blue/gold to turquoise/gold. Also, please give her bangs back.

Lagoona - okay so I’ll start by saying that G1 Lagoona was my favorite and my first ever doll so I had to get adjusted to her new design.

I’ve grown to like it, but some things keep bothering me:

Her skin-tone needs to be a cooler pink. I get that we already have Draculaura but she looks sunburnt and too human with a warm pink. It clashes with her blue legs and it’s so distracting.

I also never liked the black in her design, even in G1. But while the use of blacks in G1 was cohesive and balanced, the blacks in G3 feel so out of place. I changed her shorts and gave her an hibiscus flower instead of pearls in her hair ( a nod to her G1 doll, I always loved that detail ).

It's been a while since I posted anything so I'm going to redeem myself.

I was scrolling through my feed when I came across a comment that caught my attention, someone said they believed the Toradeen relationship was abusive because it was an bully/victim dynamic. And that made me think a little, is it true?

Firstly, I want to make it clear that Toralei is a bully figure and does very mean and selfish things throughout the series, but what I want to analyze is toradeen relationship fits into this dynamic.

After clarifying, I do not believe that THEIR relationship fits into this dynamic and I will show some points.

From the beginning of the series I noticed that Clawdeen was never the focus of Toralei's bullying, it was Draculaura (and Lagoona). And it makes sense, after all Draculaura is everything she tries to be. Premium student, fearleader, student bloody president, loved by all. Perfect.

Of course, Toralei makes extremely racist comments about humans, but she never says them directly to Clawdeen, it's always in the presence of another monster or to herself. And when they start interacting these comments lose intensity until the moment comes when she apologizes and they finally disappear.

An interesting thing is that Clawdeen has never been averse to interacting with Toralei, she seems cautious, I believe because she considers Draculaura's situation and Toralei reputation as a bully and not because she doesn't like her. Even when Clawdeen confronts Toralei about her actions, it feels more like advice than intimidation.

The situation would be completely different if Toralei bullied Clawdeen and the writers made her fall in love with her bully, which fits precisely into Toralei's relationship with Draculaura, and I know there is a ship (I'm not giving hate, it's more of a comparison about the difference in character interactions).

I don't know if Shea chose to do this because he wanted to eliminate the idea that they consider each other enemies, because to be honest, at no point do they act like rivals (even though it is constantly highlighted that werewolves and werecats are mortal enemies).

Another important thing to remember is that when Toralei was still a bully, they were not friends, not even after the “Power heist”. Their friendship is built little by little and along with this friendship comes the development of Toralei. That's why only in the last episode can we see them as true friends, since Toralei is a completely different monster. Their relationship is free to grow because Toralei has grown up and there is nothing abusive about that. People change and Toralei only changed because Clawdeen gave her that chance, precisely because she had no reason not to do it. different from Draculaura and Lagoona.

Not that Draculaura and Lagoona are wrong. I loved the way they showed that the decision to forgive Toralei is their choice, which is why we don't even see Lagoona interacting with Toralei after she asks for distance to have a healthy coexistence. Draculaura forgives her after a while, but that doesn't mean they are friends. When Frankie and Clawdeen ask, she just says “maybe,” so the conclusion is that Drac is willing to believe that Toralei has gotten better, but it's still a delicate situation.

Anyway, this is just my point of view, don't take this as a concrete truth, everyone has their own interpretation.

Cleo in Movie Monster was kinda really cute tho

Like, makes sense Frankie would wanna be with the tech and operate the cameras (even three hours after the cameras ran out of batteries) (was Frankie powering them with their own charge??) (were they just standing there staring at nothing for three hours because no one called cut??)

But Cleo? Choosing to do makeup with her scarabs? And having her swarm set stuff up off camera?

It either says a lot about her, that she didn’t even try for the leading role-

Meaning her determination in Pyramid Scheme to play Cleopatra was specifically because she NEVER gets a leading role when big sis Nefera was around- always the tree- instead of a general need to always be center stage.

Which matches well all the other times Cleo has helped and been supportive of her friends, and runs smoothly into the idea that Cleo (sans sibling angst) enjoys making other people look good. Ta-daa, makeup technician!

Almost everyone else working on Lagoona’s movie project is ALSO one of the theater kids (as seen in Flaunt Your Skeleton). Clawdeen, our main character, very noticeable isn’t playing an active role in either of the theater-themed episodes.  

But Heath’s there. Maybe because he and Lagoona had that “you’ll catch someone’s eye” “you are my love!” moment in Horoscare?

Now then those are mostly designs i stopped working on for many reasons and i can barely find good images of them now cause theyre not even on my computer. Maybe i revisit them in the future but who knows

First something i tried together w the beach fan design- literally a gamer inspired line lol called gamer ghouls. i hate how drac turned out but the heart-shaped switch is something cool- i like frankie’s outfit and ghoulia is my fave here.  its funny cause something i always think when i make g3 designs is ‘’how can i include drac in this’’ cause realistically my line of thinking is ‘’would these sell’’ and drac sells. i also try to keep in mind materials and how well the items would perform as toys too. drac is hideous here tho.  the ghouls drinking monster was super funny in my head

this is a rough one. its for g1, i came up w the concept talking to an old friend, bonita and venus were her favorite dolls and i came up with the concept of a cybergoth inspired Bonita doll and a more slick also cyber inspired figure for venus (shes barely sketched there).

we had LOTS of creative differences (i came with a color pallete much, much different from that since i was inspired by cybergoth, focusing on neon and dark colors) and specially after some personal stuff i just gave up. i still like the concept but i cant really stand working with a concept in mind just to realize the other person isnt interested unless its their way. i wish i can revisit her in the future and apply the stuff i actually envisioned for her- but well, so far thats what we got. cant say im happy aside from the silhouette.

some other reaaally rough ideas for the beach line project for g3. i did most of those during my office work lol. those are for ghoulia. for her i wanted to keep in mind her 50s theme from g1 actually cause i love it so much. thats where the glam chill look came from. then i was like eh its nice but new ghoulia is way more rad and sporty so i tried to think of her doing surf (i also have sketches for deuce in surf attire so they would be fun) i have so many of those all over my house cause when g3 was barely launching i was so excited. and so bored at work. so i just got every paper note i could to sketch random ideas lol Also SILLY OC ALERT!!!

This was mostly a joke but i made her thinking of ET Bilu from a brazilian urban legend lol. thinking of her as a scary skinny legend w stereotypical and hilarious proportions common to old MH dolls was what inspired me at first but then also the whole 2012 pop diva look. Shes just a funny little gal. busquem conhecimento!

Honestly, I'm always shocked when I see the not-so-hidden anger that people have developed towards Cleuce to the point of simply ignoring the countless times that Gil was racist towards Lagoona, lied to her, made her feel inadequate and insufficient and broke her heart after promising he would never do it again.

And I won't go into detail about everything they turn a blind eye to about Draculaura/Clawd Seriously, why is it popular now to find Cleo/Deuce toxic? What do they gain from this?

Saying that Cleuce is toxic is one of the stupidest things you can do as a fan of Monster High, you may not like them, but the truth is that they are far from being the most toxic couple in the franchise

Hi guyz!! so somebody asked me to post my doll collection a while back and I put it off because i'm trying to rearrange my setup but its taking much longer than expected due to irl stuff.

But I dont wanna wait anymore! Feel free to just scroll through the pictures, you don't have to read the commentary if you don't want to. In fact you don't have to scroll through any of this at all. I wrote a lot because I am severely neurodivergent. Having a genuine blogging moment rn.

I have been waiting forever for an excuse to post my collection!! I was so happy someone suggested I do so.

I don't have a lot of room for everybody! Everyone is scattered around my room, but I try my best to display them nicely...

My G1 collection is moderately sized, these dolls are expensive and difficult to find. There are so many more I want, like Dead Tired Lagoona or Sweet 1600 Draculaura to go with my Sweet 1600 Clawdeen...sigh. But it just keeps getting harder! I am actually content with stopping my G1 collecting hunt for now and instead focusing on G3... Many of these dolls are from my dear friends, especially Leo and Raven (hi guyz!). Without my friends, I would only have three of these dolls... I am so lucky to be so loved!!!

I don't have many bratz that are in good enough shape to be on display. I really grew up on bratz rather than monster high... but again...these dolls get expensive! Roxxi was always a favorite of mine and a crush! Growing up, I was the type of kid who almost exclusively wanted one brat though. Yasmin. Not Cloe, Jade, or Sasha. I was devoted to collecting Yasmin because she looked similar to me. In retrospect, I really wish I had gotten more of the other girls...I do have some...though their numbers pale in comparison to the Yasmin army.

The ball-jointed doll is my most expensive doll and my largest doll (she is fucking ginormous). Even when buying her at half the original price (great deal from a great friend) she was hardly affordable.

I bought her because I plan on customizing her to be Flandre Scarlet, my ultimate comfort character! I've always dreamed of having a doll of Flan. SO why not make one myself? I've had her for months but am still too scared to cut that beautiful hair off...I'm no good at cutting wigs/hair in general. I did install her red eyes myself which I've never done before as this is my first and probably last bjd! She is gorgeous but I would consider these dolls luxury items... VERY EXPENSIVE.

I am so happy to have the coffin bean playset!! I think it was a really good idea to get it. but I am so sad because I have hardly any room for it! So It's sitting on my dresser in front of a giant mirror so please excuse the poor editing I did to obscure the reflection of me and my living space lol...

I gave my Twyla low pigtails, though they aren't very visible, and my Clawdeen braids! I think Clawdeen looks super cute this way tbh I tried curling her hair again and again and again but the curls always fell out (I dont have much experience)...but honestly... I think I like this look even better ^_^. You can see her ears so well this way.

This Clawdeen is basically my holy grail and it was gifted to me by Leo, Leo if you're reading this I hope you know you are basically Jesus.

not to get deep but the OMG doll next to her is special to me because it is one of the last gifts I got from my late Grandpa. He took me to target and when I said I liked the doll, no questions asked, he bought her for me. Didn't give me shit for liking dolls at my big age. He simply got her for me because she made me happy, and he wants me to be happy. Dolls can mean so much. Again, I am so lucky to be so loved!!! >:D

I have this gorgeous Draculaura just chilling next to my jewelry cuz I have nowhere else to put her and honestly she is gorgeous and should stand alone.

Here I have the pride Bratz next to my bed!!! They mean so much to me, as I said earlier I had a crush on Roxxi. To see she's a canon lesbian now is so incredible!! And Nevra, her girlfriend, is beautiful! They are so cute together... they are never leaving that box though. This was actually the first doll/set of dolls where I fully understood why people are content leaving dolls in their boxes. I love to play with my dolls so much... but I could never play with these two!! If anything happened to them I would lose my mind.

Now... you're probably thinking......where the hell is Lagoona?!?! Do you not have one despite loving her this much? Of course I have a Lagoona. I AM GROWING AN ARMY!!!!!!

I really, really love Lagoona...I want to get every Lagoona doll I possibly can. Isn't she so cute! I relate to her character in the cartoon a lot too... her life at home, her difficulties speaking up when she is sad or angry, her sporty personality, etc etc... She has quickly claimed her spot as biggest comfort character #2. I included many pictures because I simply cannot pick one, she is flawless. You might recognize the Lagoona on the left, I drew her in that exact pose recently!!

I have her army on my desk, giving me the strength I need to get through my work... like Homer Simpson with his pictures of baby Maggie at his work. I get endless inspiration and motivation from Lagoona!!!

And here is the Flandre shrine bonus... I adore her!! I also have finally ordered a fumo flan that should arrive in august around my birthday eeek!!!

Anyways that is my collection. It's been many years in the making, though it's almost doubled since monster high G3 released... Mattel truly has me by the balls right now. If you read any of this, thank you. I put a lot of time into making this post, and it was really fun. I feel like a real blogger right now.

I really really enjoy dolls and talking about them. So I will happily do so anytime I get the chance!!! Will probably do an update once I finally install some more shelves and move stuff around <3

This got me thinking - and while it’s probably not true - that the reason Lagoona is pinkish is due to a camouflage evolution!

According to her wiki it says she grew up in a “remote sea castle off the coast of Honduras”, so we technically don’t know how deep the water is where she lives!

I may just be rambling but it’s a cool fact and I think this has helped me with a faster adjustment to her new colors!

I have always loved Lagoona and I still do, but with such a drastic change I needed some time to adjust y’know?

I feel like people who are unsure about G3 really just need to jump into the series and try it out.

Because all the changes seem big and bad when you only see the character designs. You have a lot of questions why this and that was changed. Why is Frankie blue. Why is Lagoona pink. Why is Clawdeen half-human.

But if you actually sit down and watch the series...

Because the personalities and the stories of all the characters are so different, I feel like its so much easier to accept this new generation.

It doesn't feel like a reboot, like G2 was. It doesn't feel like they're "ruining" the G1 characters you know and love.

It feels like brand new characters in a brand new series.

G1 will still always be there. All the webisodes are still there on Youtube! They're still making G1-style dolls for adult collectors!

But now we also have G3! We have new characters and new stories! With some improvements, like body diversity and queer rep!

So if you haven't yet, give G3 a chance! Maybe you'll love it, maybe it won't be your cup of tea. But if you go in with an open mind, I don't think you'll hate it as much as you think you will. And it might just change your mind on G3 as a whole.

for SOO many reasons!!! its been like, what, 2 years??? im still seeing people on tiktok that whine about the reboot...

anyway heres a teeny rant on g3 discourse ^_^

first of all, the target audience has changed completely! gen1 was designed for tweens/teens while gen3 is more for younger kids. i dont see a problem with this!

monster highs message has always been about acceptance and diversity. literally a perfect lesson for little kids! this is why the new audience was the same kids who, when presented the choice by mattel, felt pink lagoona was better-looking than blue. and of course theyd listen to their demographic!

(side note: the "her name is lagoona BLUE" argument is the most ridiculous excuse ive ever heard. shes named after the BLUE LAGOON, not her skin color!!)

ill go on tiktok and see the most ridiculous slideshows where its g3 frankie going "im nonbinary" and g1 frankie on the next slide saying "but im a girl...." are you kidding me?? how could you be so insensitive??

"oh theyre completely changing the characters!!!!" and yet you dont understand why they make these changes...... the reboot is to make monster high an environment with more positive diversity in all aspects.

on the topic of the show, i have not seen it... but from others opinions on it, it seems pretty solid!

but i also HATE the cankle complaints.... like im not a fan of the show's artstyle either but its really not that big a deal as long as the target audience of little kids enjoy watching!

one thing i wont defend are some of these outfits though..... i have a mini collection of g3 lagoona dolls going but i am NOT a fan of any clawdeen outfits so far T_T;

i definitely think lagoona is an age regressor! señor squeaky is her best friend when she's small. i don't think she has a cg and i don't think she wants one. she regresses to about 4-7, and she really likes playing with her secret stash of toys, acting out stories and stuff! she's pretty secret about her regression, i think only draculaura and maybe toralei know

i think frankie is a flip with a slightly bigger regressor lean. they don't have a set regression age range, they just Feel Smaller. they definitely get more emotional and curious when small, which is difficult to think is even possible. cleo is a caregiver and is their caregiver when regressed, but clawdeen and draculaura know about their regression. they're very much not secret about it, they don't understand why they should be. they always have regression gear with them, either for themself or for somebody else

like i mentioned, cleo is a caregiver! she's definitely a big sister caregiver. she really likes being involved and hyping everything frankie or anybody else she's looking after does. she has a whole pile in her room of gifts, mostly drawings, she's been given by regressors. she views them as just as special as her jewels and stuff!

i also think clawdeen and ghoulia are regressors! i don't have as many hcs for them though,,

So, I WANTED to draw it out first....but it's been months, too many characters, too slow. SO,

hear me out

Monster High gen 3 as gen 1's kids. Just touch up the designs and change the names a bit.

Franky; gen1Franky and Jackson became scientists, got married, and made Fran. (literally, with corpse parts and a metal leg.) gen3 Franky is so different from gen1, all you gotta do is change the name. Franky's dog is "Watzit" while Fran's dog is "Watzy."

Clawdeen; gen1 Clawdeen became a fashion designer, married Venus (let me have my ship) and then had a werewolf kid named Clawrissa. Just add some flowers and a bit of green to her design and boom. (Also, I always kind of thought Venus was south American, could be wrong, but that could work for making Clawrissa part Hispanic)

Draculaua; She and Clawd got married (somehow it works, idk) had a vampire daughter, named Lorelei. (it's kind of close to Draculaura and it's very elegant sounding) I think you could keep the overall design of gen3 Draculara, as her daughter looking a lot like her kind of suits the characters in my mind. But you'd have to change the pink to something a bit different, maybe a hue of red or purple.

Cleo and Deuce; Gen1 Cleo left her abusive family and married Deuce. He does various cook related things, and because she left her rich family, she's had to learn how to save money, which lead her to becoming the owner of a VERY popular secondhand boutique. They had a half gorgon/half mummy child named, lets say 'Calypso' (cause it kind of sounds like the name Cleo and is greek) Just take gen3's design and add slit pupils and put some blue snakes mixed in with her hair. (Why doesn't she wear glasses? either she has good control over the turn to stone thing or just can't do it at all XD)

Deuce; Gen3 Deuce, make him look a bit more like the live action movie version, make him the kid of Viperine, change his color scheme a bit, and change his name to some sort of masculine sounding pun about snakes. (Adder??)

Toralei; gen1Toralei works as a bartender (idk if she had a career in mind, so...i'm just going with bartender for now cause i think it suits her) she's a single mom, though gets help from her own mom. (Headmaster Bloodgood, cause I love the idea of them being family, it's funny) For the daughter, use the doll version of gen3 with the longer hair, and name her, idk, Tabitha? (cause Tabby cats) and there ya go, there's that family.

Bloodgood; Honestly I just kind of like gen3's design better, so...XD

Heath; Gen1 Heath and Gen1Abby had a son, let's call him Pyro. He is a lot like his dad, but wears a bit of blue cause of his mom.

Abby; uhhhhh, just a different Abominable Snowman girl?

Lagoona; Gen1 Lagoona and Gill got married and one year went to Mexico, and found a young sea monster girl fending for herself. They adopted her. All you gotta do is change gen3Lagoona's name. Pacifica? Lala?

There are other characters I gotta sort out, but this is what I got so far XD This is how I've been having my gen1 and gen3 cakes and eat them too XD
