I’ve seen today a lot of people of Twitter upset about Harry being seen out with Ben Winston because of his connections and funding of the Israeli military. Can you do a reading to see how Harry feels about Ben and his ideologies as well as how Harry feels with the public’s perception of him because of his link to Ben. Also what SM thinks of it all.

In regards to H personally, I will just add that his silence and the silence of other people may be more closely connected to security than you’d expect. As I’m sure you’ve seen, the geno-cide in 🍉 has lead to some intensely violent moments in other countries as well. I know some very normal people, with just your average tiktok/insta account with a few thousand followers, get so many threats that they don’t feel safe anymore.

While I would love for H and others to speak up, especially since their safety is worlds better than that of the people of Gaza, I can also understand the intense anxiety and complex situations that arise for them in this violent world.

Charlotte Campbell - Dr C's classmate from his college days in dance. The two had become close friends over the years in college, and she was a little in love with him for a while but knew that they could only be friends. She received her Master's degree while he went on to get his PhD. They became distant as Charlotte moved onto a career in dance teacher and choreography for a theater group in London after her graduation. She was engaged to someone else who worked in the theater group for a few months about a year after Dr C got his PhD, but she and her fiancé called off their engagement a month before her wedding after some major disagreements that couldn't be resolved. She then quit her job and left London to return to Cambridge where she and Dr C unexpectedly reunited, which led to the rekindling of that friendship. When Dr C was dismissed from continuing his research in genetics and teleportation at the university he was at, she found him a position as a dance teacher at another university. He agreed to wait until the winter semester in case things weren't looking up by then. Her main hobby aside from her career was photography, and she gave him one of her old cameras to tinker with and turn it into a video camera to record his experiments. She was the only one who knew about his accident and witnessed his capture. She believed he was killed and she was sworn to secrecy by Monger. Five years later, she married a widower with two children and had two children by him.

Winston Hoover - a brilliant genetics doctoral student and Dr C's former university lab assistant in the early 60s. Working on the genetic teleportation device was part of his completion to having a PhD. When the university cut off funding for the duo's research, Dr C decided to retaliate, but Winston didn't join him, knowing it would potentially end his endeavor to his PhD. They never saw each other again. After Dr C was dismissed, Winston found another avenue in place of his former research. Still, he continued on his own towards completion of the genetic teleportation device and the mutation enhancement, learning that using the machine at full force would either kill him or highly unlikely give him a cockroach head. In the winter of 1963, he performed the same procedure as Dr C but at a lower power level, unaware that his former lab partner had done it already elsewhere in September 1962. He survived and retained his human head but mysteriously disappeared shortly after the success of the mutation. No one has seen him to this day.

Amelia - Dr C's younger sister (as mentioned in my MvA h/cs). At the time of her brother's accident, she was in her mid-late 20s, a law school graduate aiming to be a lawyer, and somewhat of a feminist. She wholeheartedly agreed that her brother was a genius but she had little regard for his work. Both brother and sister were brunettes by their mother. Dr C had blue eyes (as seen in the flashback in the Halloween special) like their father while Amelia had hazel eyes like their mother. After the loss of her brother, she went on to be a successful lawyer ("To the devil with teaching!" She said in defiance against any propositions of becoming a teacher) and moved to Wales in the late 70s. All the while, she never knew what happened to her brother but she would've been roflol ("By jove, did you screw up or what?!") at the cockroach head and then distraught that there was no undoing the accident.

Why would Poldark tv series writer DH have Ross say to Eliz S1Ep8 that Dem is the "love of his life" (not in WG books) when she is ill, then afterwards still have him pine and lust after Eliz constantly in series. Is it to show Ross as a duplicitous cad? Was it just to show his blind foolhardy idealization and obsession about Eliz because he was denied her. Don't get why she had Ross say that about Dem if it wasn't genuine and truly heartfelt. Why put it in? Doesn't make sense. What's your take?

Thanks for the ask, @anonymous. I’ve been giving this some thought (and will try to be succinct in my reply). Short answer: screen writers can have short memories. I remember feeling this frustration even as a kid watching something happen in one episode of a beloved show (Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries? Remington Steele?) that was conveniently left behind for plot purposes moving forward. And I’d shout at my TV, “Did they think we wouldn’t remember?!”

Or…perhaps it's not that simple. 

Maybe it was just easy for Ross to throw out the phrase “love of his life” because the situation was so dire. Nothing makes us love a person more than when we fear death, ours or theirs. (There’s a really lovely and sort of funny Mary Oliver poem on this very subject but I can’t remember the title). I don’t actually believe that he didn't really mean it, by the way, just offering it as an option.

Or maybe Debbie H. deliberately used that line to show us how complicated Ross and his feelings were. Sure he loved Elizabeth in one way but Demelza was the real deal. And it was really necessary in that moment in S1.8 for the audience to see a declaration of love for Demelza, so we could get through all the other horrible, painfully sad bits of that episode. It was the only saving grace, really.

If that’s the case, did DH have a memory lapse or a change of heart/direction moving forward? I mean she had to have known all the stuff Winston Graham mapped out for S2 when she wrote that line for S1. Does this make Ross a hypocrite or was she trying to show us how he lost sight of his true feelings for Demelza in S2 since we already knew she was the “love of his life” from S1?

Or were there some other lines written for S2 or even S3 that were edited out that would have helped us reconcile this inconsistency? I just read that the original scripts for S2.10 had Ross openly declaring his love for Demelza at the Trenwith riot in front of George and Elizabeth but that it was cut (not sure if it was filmed then edited out or edited out of the script before it was even filmed).

That said, considering the wildly inconsistent ride we had in S3, I can also see DH just playing around with lines, ignoring what had been established because she had somewhere else she wanted to go. And she did push Elizabeth to the center of the story far longer than WG did, so that pesky “love of my life” line she created must have proven very inconvenient for her!

Also, I have to admit, I hate the phrase “love of my life” as much as I don't dig the concept of "soulmate". I think they are really limiting and I think it is possible to love different people in different ways at different times as you grow and become a different person yourself. Sometimes you are lucky and can keep that one great love with you for years and years and sometimes you lose a great love. But I do think you can move on and find another, different, love. Ok--that's not the question you asked me.

Lastly, I wonder if the phrase is a bit anachronistic? I haven’t been able to find the origins of it but I’m not sure I’ve ever heard it used in 18th/19th c. dialogue.  Totally possible that I’m wrong and it's even some old expression that can be traced back to Roman Latin poetry. Or maybe it's a relatively modern take? Anyone with intel on that, I’m all ears.

                 On one hand, he’s... extremely shy of his new coworkers-- primarily because they’ve gone from enemies to coworkers in a relatively short amount of time, over the span of only a couple months. They’ve loosely accepted him amongst their ranks-- but he is offered very little outside of basic hospitality. On the other hand, however... Although eyes are constantly on him, both digital and organic, waiting to see just how he behaves around others... They aren’t as callous as before. Initially, he feels very out of place upon being pulled into conversation with one of their special operatives agents, having initially only appeared from the recesses of his and Reinhardt’s shared quarters to seek out something to eat in between the scheduled “mealtimes”-- but as the two of them acquaint themselves with one another, SIGMA finds himself fairly captivated by the story she spins for him.

The more Lena goes on, however, there are so many parallels to be drawn between her story and his own, and despite his better efforts to keep his eccentricity in check-- primarily because, having already been quite the handful for TALON, he feels as though OVERWATCH will have infinitely less patience for the illusions of grandeur and divinity that haunt his waking hours-- he finds himself looming over the young pilot curiously, lavender eyes wide with wonder. Thankfully, he doesn’t try to touch her Chronal Accelerator, he knows better-- but he does float a few degrees around her, inspecting her.

                     “-- You and I... that.... that would make you my equal!“ He chimes resolutely, a look of genuine shock spanning his gaunt features as he gazes down at Lena with bright eyes filled with wonder at such a revelation. “Not-- not only that, but to have forgotten you as well...?“ He clutches his hands to his chest, his eyes momentarily falling to the kitchen table in silent solidarity. But.... She was luckier than him, in that case, to have gotten to stay with OVERWATCH, whereas he was immediately decommissioned from the LUNAR COLONY project and expunged from virtually all databases. “H-has... Has OVERWATCH told you anything about me yet...? I did give a very detailed description of the events leading up to my initial incarceration-- well, to the best of my ability...”

This is the loosely based on facts story of Carla Moran, a woman who was allegedly tormented and sexually molested by an invisible demon. Regardless of if the facts of the case are fictionalised for impact, or if indeed there is any basis of truth to the attacks in question, The Entity as a film fails to rise above average due to sloppy direction and a very poor script, whilst the score from Charles Bernstein is akin to being hit over the head repeatedly with a blunt instrument. That said, the film isn’t a total wash out, there are genuine moments of dread in the piece, and most of the tension and fear is realised from a very credible performance from Barbara Hershey as Carla. The nature of the beast with this type of picture will always be open to either scoffing or a fear of the unknown, so to get the audience involved with a topic like this you really need your protagonist to be believable, Hershey manages to do this in spite of the character bei...
