hey! saw your blog n thought u were like super fuckin cool- so yk can I request a vox x wife!teader and vox accidentally forget their anniversary? it's fine if jot, have a good day/night!!
Vox x Reader
Sitting in Hell’s Kitchen, the finest restaurant of Pride Ring, staring at an empty chair across from you, you decide to find out for yourself just where the fuck your husband is today of all days
• Vox was zipping through cables and wires all over the house to look for you. He checked your favorite spots first but, to his chagrin, you weren’t there
• The money making, signature smile he always wore began slipping on one side when his phone buzzed to life, your icon taking over his screen
• “Darling! I just got home,” Irritation had his voice glitching, “Where are you?”
• “Hm. Late night?” You asked, pettily avoiding the question
• “I-? Yeah, yes,” He sighed, slipping back into work mode for a minute, “Back to back meetings and I had to reshoot yesterday's episode because—“ Minute over, “Wait, that doesn’t matter! What matters is I wanted to come home to my darling partner and you’re nowhere to be found! Where are you!?”
• “Oh me? I went out for a bite to eat. An hour ago. There should be a notification somewhere in your planner, why don’t you check it.”
• Vox huffs and rolls his eyes. He pulls the phone away from his face and quickly swipes through today’s agenda. Anything regarding you is always his top priority—
• x/xx/xxxx: congratulations! today is your anniversary! you have a reservation at 8pm!
• “Fuck.”
• “Mhm.”
• Your phone goes silent. Only half of a second passes before your husband materializes from the wires at the front desk. The panicked expression on his screen is almost enough to satisfy the tornado of emotions inside you. Of course he recognizes there’s people around and there’s an image to project so he gathers himself all too quickly
• His steps over are hurried and clumsy. He presses a kiss to your cheek that buzzes softly on your skin as he sits down, taking your hands into his own in case you decide to leave. Or throw your wine at him. Or both. “Happy Anniversary, darling!”
• Your brow quirks, unimpressed and irate
• “I know it seems like I did, but I didn’t forget. Look I planned this dinner—“
• “That you were late to.”
• “And I have your present right here! Look! I made it months ago just for this.”
• A part of you expects a new phone or watch that hasn’t hit the market yet. Instead Vox pulls out a thin screen from behind his back (Somehow. You’ve learned not to question how he does that) and forces it into your hands
• It scanned your fingerprints the minute you touched it and bloomed to life. For a few seconds it showed you and Vox closer to when you first met, slowly and silently moving as you both laughed. Then it faded and brought a new image of when Vox poured coffee in Val’s lap because he was staring at you. You couldn’t help but snort at that one despite trying very hard not
• “It’s an electronic picture frame,” Vox explained excitedly, “Only this one scans and recognizes your favorite memories. I, uh, already put mine in there for you.” His eyes dart away for a moment, a light blush making his screen glow slightly, “Don’t let anyone else see this.”
• You’re really torn now and he can clearly see it. As a businessman he wants to go in for the final kill, but as your husband he wants to reassure you
• “I didn’t forget, not really. I knew I was missing something all day. I’ll clear my calendar next year— or tomorrow! We can redo the whole day just you and me!”
• You purse your lips together and tilt your head at him with narrowed eyes. Something you did right before you forgave him. “No work at all? No taking calls from Val or Vel? Not even watching yourself on tv?”
• “Let me take care of everything! No one will bother us for an entire 24 hours. Just me and you, my dear. Doesn’t that sound nice?”
• You give him a final skeptical look before your gaze drops to the picture frame with significantly more fondness. You inevitably give in with a sigh, “Fine.”
• Vox is standing up and bringing you with him, his claw on your lower back to guide you out of the restaurant, “Excellent! You won’t regret it baby, I’ll make it our best anniversary yet.”
• To the host at the front his smile doesn’t waver but his voice drops to an octave that leaves no room for arguments, “We’ll be back here tomorrow, same time but we’ll take the table by the window instead. You can put that under Vox. Thanks.”
• “Vox, what are you doing!?“ You whisper loudly in disbelief
• He doesn’t stop, continuing to push you out and onto the sidewalk where a VoxTech limo already awaits. Suddenly his hands are on your shoulders. His eyes meet yours and they’re devoid of the facade he puts on for everyone else
• “When something goes wrong at VoxTech, I have to scrap the plans and start all over to get it right. And I want to do this right for you. I’m going to fix everything, my dear. One hour and I’ll meet you back home with all your favorites.” Despite the tv-ready tone, Vox’s words are coated in sincerity that has you inclined to believe him
• You allow him to help you into the limo, “I don’t need it perfect, y’know. I just need you there.”
• “And I will be! You’ll get both; myself and perfection. Don’t I always say you deserve it all?” Vox kisses the back of your hand before closing the door. He stands there with a smile and waves until you’re out of sight
• He keeps his word, he’s at home with you 45 minutes later. He brings dinner, dessert and wine, all your favorites, and a few extra presents
• The 24 workless hours begin as soon as he walks through the door. He turns off his phone and puts himself on “do not disturb”
• All he needs is you and you’re right here. Happily sitting in his lap while he feeds you cake, your favorite movie in the background. The sound of your laughter or wine glasses clinking together is a far better sound than his ringtone
• (He’ll need a new assistant when he returns to work… and someone to repair that window on the 13th floor. That’s probably why he has 237 notifications from Velvette and Valentino when he turns his phone on after your anniversary do-over)
~
╰(*´︶`*)╯♡ OMG YOU’RE SO SWEET!!!! please enjoy!

Week in Review
October 23rd-29th
Welcome to Fragile Practice, where I attempt to make something of value out of stuff I have to read.
My future plan is to do longer-form original pieces on interesting topics or trends. For now, I'm going to make the weekly reviews habitual and see if I have any time left.
Tumblr media
Technology
OpenAI forms team to study ‘catastrophic’ AI risks, including nuclear threats - Tech Crunch; Kyle Wiggers
OpenAI launched a new research team called AI Safety and Security to investigate the potential harms of artificial intelligence focused on AI alignment, AI robustness, AI governance, and AI ethics.
Note: Same energy as “cigarette company funds medical research into smoking risks”.
Artists Allege Meta’s AI Data Deletion Request Process Is a ‘Fake PR Stunt’ - Wired; Kate Knibbs
Artists who participated in Meta’s Artificial Intelligence Artist Residency Program accused the company of failing to honor their data deletion requests and claim that Meta used their personal data to train its AI models without their consent.
Note: Someday we will stop being surprised that corporate activities without obvious profit motive are all fake PR stunts.
GM and Honda ditch plan to build cheaper electric vehicles - The Verge; Andrew J. Hawkins
General Motors and Honda cancel their joint venture to develop and produce cheaper electric vehicles for the US market, citing the chip shortage, rising costs of battery materials, and the changing market conditions.
Note: What are the odds this isn’t related to the 7 billion dollars the US government announced to create hydrogen hubs.
'AI divide' across the US leaves economists concerned - The Register; Thomas Claburn
A new study by economists from Harvard University and MIT reveals a significant gap in AI adoption and innovation across different regions in the US.
The study finds that AI usage is highest in California's Silicon Valley and the San Francisco Bay Area, but was also noted in Nashville, San Antonio, Las Vegas, New Orleans, San Diego, and Tampa, as well as Riverside, Louisville, Columbus, Austin, and Atlanta.
Nvidia to Challenge Intel With Arm-Based Processors for PCs - Bloomberg; Ian King
Nvidia is using Arm technology to develop CPUs that would challenge Intel processors in PCs, and which could go on sale as soon as 2025.
Note: I am far from an NVIDIA fan, but I’m stoked for any amount of new competition in the CPU space.
New tool lets artists fight AI image bots by hiding corrupt data in plain sight - Engadget; Sarah Fielding
A team at the University of Chicago created Nightshade, a tool that lets artists fight AI image bots by adding undetectable pixels into an image that can alter how a machine-learning model produces content and what that finished product looks like.
Nightshade is intended to protect artists work and has been tested on both Stable Diffusion and an in-house AI built by the researchers.
IBM's NorthPole chip runs AI-based image recognition 22 times faster than current chips - Tech Xplore; Bob Yirka
NorthPole combines the processing module and the data it uses in a two-dimensional array of memory blocks and interconnected CPUs, and is reportedly inspired by the human brain.
NorthPole can currently only run specialized AI processes and not training processes or large language models, but the researchers plan to test connecting multiple chips together to overcome this limitation.
Apple’s $130 Thunderbolt 4 cable could be worth it, as seen in X-ray CT scans - Ars Technica; Kevin Purdy
Note: These scans are super cool. And make me feel somewhat better about insisting on quality cables. A+.
Tumblr media
The Shifting Web
On-by-default video calls come to X, disable to retain your sanity - The Register; Brandon Vigliarolo
Video and audio calling is limited to anyone you follow or who is in your address book, if you granted X permission to comb through it.
Calling other users also requires that they’ve sent at least one direct message to you before.
Only premium users can place calls, but everyone can receive them.
Google Search Boss Says Company Invests to Avoid Becoming ‘Roadkill’ - The New York Times; Nico Grant
Google’s senior vice president overseeing search said that he sees a world of threats that could humble his company at any moment.
Google Maps is getting new AI-powered search updates, an enhanced navigation interface and more - Tech Crunch; Aisha Malik
Note: These AI recommender systems are going to be incredibly valuable advertising space. It is interesting that Apple decided to compete with Google in maps but not in basic search, but has so far not placed ads in the search results.
Reddit finally takes its API war where it belongs: to AI companies - Ars Technica; Scharon Harding
Reddit met with generative AI companies to negotiate a deal for being paid for its data, and may block crawlers if no deal is made soon.
Note: Google searches for info on Reddit often seem more effective than searching Reddit itself.  If they are unable to make a deal, and Reddit follows through, it will be a legitimate loss for discoverability but also an incredibly interesting experiment to see what Reddit is like without Google.
Bandcamp’s Entire Union Bargaining Team Was Laid Off - 404 Media; Emanuel Maiberg
Bandcamp’s new owner (Songtradr) offered jobs to just half of existing employees, with cuts disproportionately hitting union leaders. Every member of the union’s eight-person bargaining team was laid off, and 40 of the union's 67 members lost their jobs.
Songtradr spokesperson Lindsay Nahmiache claimed that the firm didn’t have access to union membership information.
Note: This just sucks. Bandcamp is rad, and it’s hard to imagine it continuing to be rad after this. I wonder if Epic had ideas for BC that didn’t work out.

Surveillance & Digital Privacy
Mozilla Launches Annual Digital Privacy 'Creep-o-Meter'. This Year's Status:  'Very Creepy' - Slashdot
Mozilla gave the current state of digital privacy a 75.6/100, with 100 being the creepiest.
They measured security features, data collection, and data sharing practices of over 500 gadgets, apps, and cars to come up with their score.
Every car Mozilla tested failed to meet their privacy and security standards.
Note: It would be great if even one auto brand would take privacy seriously.
EPIC Testifies in Support of Massachusetts Data Privacy and Protection Act -Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC)
Massachusetts version of ADPPA.
Note: While it may warm my dead heart to see any online privacy protections in law, scrambling to do so in response to generative AI is unlikely to protect Americans in any meaningful way from the surveillance driven form of capitalism we’ve all been living under for decades.
Complex Spy Platform StripedFly Bites 1M Victims - Dark Reading
StripedFly is a complex platform disguised as a cryptominer and evaded detection for six years by using a custom version of EternalBlue exploit, a built-in Tor network tunnel, and trusted services like GitLab, GitHub, and Bitbucket to communicate with C2 servers and update its functionality.
iPhones have been exposing your unique MAC despite Apple's promises otherwise - Ars Technica
A privacy feature which claimed to hide the Wi-Fi MAC address of iOS devices when joining a network was broken since iOS 14, and was finally patched in 17.1, released on Wednesday.
Note: I imagine this bug was reported a while ago, but wasn’t publically reported until the fix was released as a term of apple’s bug bounty program.
What the !#@% is a Passkey? - Electronic Frontier Foundation
Note: I welcome our passkey overlords.

CalmWriMo Day 18
[11/18/2023]
Update!
Cozy day at home. Feels like it's been forever since I've had a light day like this to just chill out. Honestly spent more time than I prob should've just listening to youtube and playing minecraft for the first time in awhile. ('0.0) But also worked on writing stuff! So the day wasn't entirely lost to my gaming addiction lol. Did some more character interview things, cause at this point it's fun and helps me figure out the characters! Also did some work on the prologue, but agh, def not getting it done this weekend. It is mostly drafted aside from one weird gap in the middle that I need to plug with a paragraph. (-.-) Going to do that tmr then take a break from that for a week to freshen the mind a touch before going back and doing editing and what not. In the mean time gonna start the drafting for the first part of the story! Which is a mix of exciting and harrowing. [got no idea what I'm doing aside from a vaguely outlined plan lol, way more adjusted to worldbuilding and characters than I am on plot stuff…. Something I need to work on but know the most common way of learning is to completely flub it and I really don’t want to flub it lol… rambling, sorry!]
Progress:
2 Hour Writing Goal: ✅
Blurb: [see below]
Self Care:
Food: ✅
Hydration: ✅
Sleep: ❌[somehow managed to fall asleep while reading a webtoon... half woke up about an hour later to finish reading before actually getting to sleep lol]
Reading: ✅
Blurb: The Undercity
The "Undercity" is the term used to describe the more densely populated and neglected sectors of Neocago City. These regions are mostly located around the southern and outer western parts of the city. Aside from a few scattered and walled off corporate run neighborhoods surrounding factories and other corporate properties the undercity is a lawless place. Buildings are fused as they were haphazardly built atop one another in a completely unplanned way to accommodate rapid unfettered urbanization over the last few decades. Many of these buildings have prefabricated rooms at their core that have been buried by whatever construction materials were available.
Roofed alleyways are covered in trash that will never be collected. The pathways between buildings are almost always wet from a mix of rainwater and water from leaky pipes draining through the various layers of buildings above. Random cables feeding down from rooftop solar panels hang above the streets, following along the paths in thick bundles. People often simply splice into the cables to syphon off power for their businesses or homes as they need forming webs of wires chaotically stretching around over streets and alleys. Many narrow ground level streets are lined with neon signs advertising small local businesses. Some streets have become de facto "retrofitted" into public markets that have street vendor carts. While not necessarily on every surface possible, graffiti isn't uncommon.
Most places around the undercity fall with in the territories of one gang or another who for their credit often try to maintain some level of order and basic essential public services. Services such as shifting garbage away from the local area, "protection", and extinguishing the occasional fire. For the most part security firms [basically privately owned cops for hire, more on this some other time] are absent so nearly everyone in the undercity is armed in some way in the likely event they need to defend themselves. Although typically if one just keeps there head down and doesn't start anything they are relatively safe.
As one travels nearer toward the edge of Neocago the undercity becomes less developed, less populated, and less livable overall with some sections being more or less abandoned. In these places the borders between what is the undercity and the junkyards surrounding the city begin to blur. Sparsely hidden away in the more abandoned areas are indoor gardens that grow food kept away from prying eyes that may attempt to steal meals as well as valuable plants. Some places in these border areas have become mysterious dead zones where few who enter are ever seen nor heard from again.
The population of the undercity is mostly laborers, service industry workers, "service" workers, or unemployed with some small local shop owners sprinkled around. Near universally however, everyone has their vice. This part of the city has also become somewhat attractive to lower level runners, who often thrive in the absence of security firms and high need for people to do odd jobs.
In more developed regions of the undercity buildings are even built over roads which causes an intresting little phenomenon. These areas don't get sunlight and as a result have become immune to the fact that the sun is indeed a deadly laser. Following this little quirk these portions of the undercity usually never sleep and are always a bustling place of foot traffic and commerce.
In essence the undercity is nearly around sixteen million minds all working in their own interests, often intersecting and conflicting with others as there is little overall organized coordination. The aesthetics of this region are heavily governed by that as millions of little self serving adjustments are made to the environment each day.
[WOOOO!!! Love me some worldbuilding! lol (>v<) For the next week the blurbs will be about different areas in and around Neocago and honestly I'm going to have an absolute blast writing about it all! (^.^) Anyways and always, hope you are having a lovely day, peace (^V^)v]

Myth-information
Like that word? I just thought of it.
I was meditating on the Frank Doris document linked in my previous post. The guy has gobs of experience, but that is tempered by his clinging to myths and misunderstandings to reach conclusions. There always has to be a conclusion.
I heard an effect it must be due to this thing. Or not.
So he likes planar speakers cuz they are low mass and such. Well if they truly were that they would have really good high frequency response and you know they don't. All current units have woofers and tweeter drivers as you do not have a practical true full range planar driver. There are two types of planar speakers. One is the magnetic like the Magneplanar. The other are various flavors of electrostatics. Skipping details he likes the sound (as do I) because they are low mass and fast (which they are not). But the truth is they are very inefficient and non-linear and not that low mass compared to a simple cone driver. The motors of cone drivers are much more efficient for a given mass of moving parts.
All planars either electrostatic or magnetic are non-linear. The forces applied to the diaphragm is from an electrostatic charge on grids or magnetic field which accelerates a thin sheet. BUT practical considerations require the diaphragm to be under significant tension which increases the restoring force the more the sheet moves from rest. A linear signal input gives you a not linear displacement. Effectively it is a signal compression. I know this as I have built them. But they still sound good.
Why do they sound acceptable and even very good? Well they have a large radiating area which couples well to the air in the room. An 8" speaker cone has 50 squinches of area. A modest planar speaker can have 10 times that. My electrostatics had 1500 squinches of area. That coupling is actually an impedance matching effect so the sound is put into the air very efficiently once it has got past all the mechanical limitations. It appears as impact and such. That goodness compensates for most of the inherent badness.
Big horn speakers share this impedance matching effect. The area of the horn outlet is the effective area of the speaker. In big Khorns you are talking square feet of area. But they have phase issues and horns distort, sorry.
There is no ideal speaker solution. Any method can be made to fool your brain. All have flaws.
Interconnect wires can effect sound. Not for the reasons noted in the marketing materials. I had a high end rather long shielded cable to link my front end to my amps back when I placed them right beside my speakers. (Audioquest brand) As they were shielded they were capacitors. Those very long runs dulled the high frequencies. I no longer need that length. I made a set of short cables by braiding four wires just long enough to reach between my preamp and my amplifier. It made a big difference. I cut the fancy cables to the same length and guess what they now sounded identical. Simple and cheap is fine.
All the bumf about speaker cables is bragging about how much money you can spend. Skin effect, time smearing, and all that does have an effect in radio frequencies but none at all in audio frequencies. The only factors that matter are inductance, resistance, and capacitance. All wires have those. Note that some very expensive audio electronics both produce and respond to radio frequencies due to design flaws. Don't buy that stuff. Just a simple heavy gauge wire is all you need.
Remember that the 20 odd feet of fancy speaker cables connects to maybe a hundred feet of fine voice coil wire and 60 odd feet of inductor wire inside your speaker box. The entire loop counts and adds together.
Insert rant here about fancy power cables. If they help, your equipment has a problem in the power supply. All that might change is your grounding condition and perhaps invalidating your fire insurance.
Oh and the eternal conflict between tubes and transistors. Yes that is a thing. They sound different while measuring the same. Does that prove that measurements are meaningless? No just they measure what they can measure. Skilled designers can make either sound like the other. But each tribe has its fan base and those people must be served. My tube amp is different here and there, but overall more similar to my transistor franken-amp than not. The differences are very small. And it is fun to explore.
Anyone who truly understands this stuff just rolls their eyes when the golden ears start to preach. I almost understand this stuff.

Plasticizers Market: Trends, Insights & Leading Key Players
Tumblr media
Plasticizers play an indispensable role in modern materials science, particularly in enhancing the flexibility, durability, and longevity of plastics. These chemical additives are primarily used to soften rigid polymers—especially PVC—making them easier to process and more resilient in their final form. From cables and flooring to medical tubing and automotive interiors, plasticizers are embedded in everyday products we often take for granted.
With increasing demand for lightweight, durable, and sustainable materials across industries, the global plasticizers market is poised for steady growth. However, evolving regulations, environmental concerns, and the shift toward bio-based alternatives are reshaping the industry’s landscape.
What Are Plasticizers and Why Do They Matter?
Plasticizers are substances added to polymers to improve their flexibility, elasticity, and workability. By embedding themselves between polymer chains, they reduce the intermolecular forces, allowing the chains to slide past one another more freely. The result? A softer, more pliable plastic that maintains strength while being easier to handle.
The most widely used plasticizers are phthalates, such as DEHP, DINP, and DIDP. However, non-phthalate alternatives like adipates, citrates, benzoates, and epoxies are gaining market share as companies respond to environmental and health-related concerns. Bio-based plasticizers—derived from vegetable oils and other renewable resources—are also gaining traction.
Plasticizers are commonly found in:
PVC cables and wires (for insulation and flexibility)
Vinyl flooring and wall coverings
Automotive parts and dashboards
Medical devices like IV bags and tubing
Packaging films and synthetic leather
Market Overview and Growth Drivers
The global plasticizers market was valued at USD 13.5 billion in 2023 and is projected to reach approximately USD 17.4 billion by 2028, growing at a CAGR of 5.2%. Several factors contribute to this momentum:
Booming Construction Sector: Infrastructure development, especially in Asia-Pacific, drives demand for flexible PVC products like flooring, roofing membranes, and cables.
Automotive Innovation: With vehicle interiors becoming more lightweight and feature-rich, plasticizers ensure materials meet both design and durability standards.
Healthcare Advancements: Medical-grade plasticizers used in IV bags, blood containers, and tubing ensure safety, flexibility, and sterilizability.
Electrification and 5G Infrastructure: Cables and wiring used in data centers, EVs, and smart grids require plasticizers for insulation and longevity.
Sustainability Push: Regulatory shifts, especially in Europe and North America, are accelerating the adoption of non-phthalate and bio-based plasticizers.
Regulatory Landscape and Environmental Trends
Plasticizers, particularly phthalates, have been under increased scrutiny due to potential health and environmental concerns. Regulatory bodies such as REACH (EU), EPA (US), and RoHS have imposed restrictions on certain phthalates in consumer and medical products. As a result, there's a strong pivot toward:
Non-phthalate plasticizers that offer similar performance without toxicity concerns.
Bio-based and renewable plasticizers that lower carbon footprint and align with circular economy principles.
Companies are investing in R&D to develop safe, high-performance plasticizers that meet both regulatory and consumer expectations.
Key Players in the Plasticizers Market
Several global chemical companies are at the forefront of the plasticizers market, offering diverse product portfolios and sustainable innovations:
BASF SE (Germany) – A leader in both traditional and eco-friendly plasticizers, including Hexamoll® DINCH and Palatinol®.
Evonik Industries (Germany) – Focuses on high-performance specialty plasticizers for cables, films, and automotive uses.
Eastman Chemical Company (USA) – Known for non-phthalate plasticizers such as Eastman 168™ and bio-based alternatives.

Why Effective Industrial Cable Management is Crucial for Bahrain’s Oil & Gas Industry
Tumblr media
The oil and gas sector is very important to Bahrain’s economy. It provides the energy the country needs and helps other industries grow. This industry is high-risk, so safety, efficiency, and reliability are very important. Good industrial cable management in Bahrain helps keep operations running smoothly. It also protects both people and equipment.
Electrical cables are essential for industrial operations. They connect equipment, control systems, and safety devices. If cables are not managed properly, it can cause serious problems, such as safety risks, expensive downtime, and fines. Here’s why investing in robust cable management systems is essential for Bahrain’s oil and gas industry.
1. Enhancing Safety Standards
Oil and gas facilities often work in tough environments with high temperatures, corrosive materials, and constant vibrations. These conditions can damage electrical cables, leading to short circuits, fires, or equipment breakdowns.
To reduce these risks, companies use well-organized and protected cable management systems. Properly routing, securing, and shielding the cables helps prevent electrical dangers, follow Bahrain’s strict safety rules, and keep workers safe.
2. Improving Operational Efficiency
In the oil and gas industry, every minute counts. Messy and tangled cables make it harder to fix problems, causing longer delays and lost productivity.
Good cable management makes maintenance easier by keeping cables organized and easy to find. This helps reduce repair time, avoids accidental unplugging, and keeps important systems running smoothly — giving companies an advantage in Bahrain’s competitive industrial market.
3. Supporting Technological Integration
