The Year in Review

I was tagged for a similar challenge by @kimmiessimmies but I always do a year-review anyway. This time almost entirely with McCarric Scenes (Bagpipes-Nessie is not really canon). To my own surprise I posted story content worth mentioning at least once each month.

Here's my year roundup for books! I've included the ones I've enjoyed the most!

Red Rising by Pierce Brown, first book of an amazing scifi series recommended to me by my lovely friend Chimera :3

The Art of War by Sun Tzu, well. Classic innit. Very informative.

An Honourable Thief by Douglas Skelton, good historical + mystery + crime novel. Enjoyed it a lot.

The Outsiders by S E Hinton, very very immersive i loved getting emotionally involved with the characters, i have to read the rest of the books.

And now on to the worst books.

If We Were Villains by M L Rio. This is fucking dogshit. It's tropes done very badly and the unreliable narration is not done well either. It's such a pompous piece trying to riff off the vibes of Donna Tartts The Secret History. It's also so. I don't even have words for it, it's a cheap story dressed up in fancy words.

The Godfather by Mario Puzo. Dogshit prose, horrible reading experience. Story itself very interesting as someone entirely unacquainted with mafia and underworld nonsense, but the prose. Mario Puzo i will have your head.

I'm so happy about all the cool peice I've pushed myself to make this year, even with art block looming over me.

Im especially proud that i fully participated in smile for me week, making a peice for every prompt no matter how small.

I'm also so happy I got into scrapbooking this year as its given me a place to experiment be more messy and loose.

“and with that, the 2023 season comes to an end…”

it's amazing how much can change in one year. 12 months. 365 days. that's... really not that long. but yet, so much has happened in this time.

i fully dedicated myself to my life long dream- begin posting fanfiction. this was probably one of my best decisions i ever made. i've made new friends, both online in fandom, and in real life. i spent time with family, and grew closer to my older sister. i went to my first concert, and started listening to music more, developing my own music taste. i moved up to a more advanced martial arts class, and completed a school musical. danced in the rain, sung karaoke. i asked out my crush and best friend, who proceeded to tell everybody that we were never together just a few weeks later. i lost that whole friend group, but grew much closer to a better group of people. had a goal to start caring more about life, but... well... maybe i need some work on letting go of some more difficult parts.

i went through one of the hardest and darkest times in my life, but i survived and ended up the happiest i have been in many years.

and i cannot say how glad i am that i did survive it all.

i got a partner, who i fell absolutely head over heels in love with, and is literally my everything, and i love so fucking much (and i really miss like it HURTS i need to see you again my love)

i grew closer to friends who i can talk to, and who seem to actually care.

i grew a lot more confident in martial arts, getting the most improved award.

and improved in my writing abilities.

everything somehow came together and worked out.

and i hope i can continue to grow in 2024, and put an end to my years long streak of having pretty shitty years (it’s been 4 years i’m so sick of this lmao please end this streak)

also i purposely didn’t tick the checkpoints for whether i’ve lost/gained weight, because my weight doesn’t matter and shouldn’t be a factor in my year. you aren’t your weight <3

I’m really proud of some of the work I’ve made this year. For the first time, I feel like I’ve really found my footing and honed down my ideal art process. Thank you so to much to everyone who has supported my work, I’m excited to see what I make next year! ✦

Looking back at 2022 and looking forward to 2023

2022 was... personally, my worst year yet. It was challenging, hard in ways I would have never predicted. However, if there is one good thing about it, is that my safe space, IF writing and this blog, got very comfy.

In all the madness that was 2022 on a personal level, I am at least proud of what I managed to accomplish this year. On the 5th of February, The King's Hound saw its first update made public. And the response was overwhelming positive, I will never stop being grateful for that.

On the 4th of May, TKH was updated again with the entirety of the first chapter. And, again, the response was huge and positive. I got a bit stressed out by the pressure, expectations and self-doubts weighting on me, not going to lie, but despite the writer's block taht took over for the summer, I am incredibly happy to have returned once again.

This time, on the 18th of December, with the Prologue of From The Ashes we Rise. And, to my surprise and delight, many many people once again enjoyed the game.

I wish you could see my smile now. The thought of having made public two new games is exhilarating. Even if the total word count wasn't huge, I am still so satisfied with the results.

I am also very happy with what I learned this year in terms of how to work with Twine and in terms of writing progress.

So, yeah. I am grateful to all of you who were here for the ride. I hope you can feel the hug I am sending you from Italy ❤ a special place in my heart goes also to the beta testers, who immensely helped my WIPs to see the light, and to each supporter on Ko-Fi. And a special special place goes to everyone who ever interacted with my content and blogs. It is because of those kind, excited words that I kept writing.

Plans for 2023

Definitely update TKH with the second chapter. Maybe even more, but we'll see.

And definitely update FtAwR with the first chapter.

Maybe continue TCO?

Oh and finally finish one of the two ideas of a game I planned for the Halloween comp. It would be so cool to finish and release one of them, even not in a comp but as a treat for the festivity.

Lastly, commission drawings for TKH ROs with the Ki-Fi money. How cool would that be?

brought surprises..... evenings crying in bed and also brought hearty dinner celebrations. With the new year I hope to learn new lessons.. make new friends and acquaintances and radiate love and light 💗✨

year review!!!

This year has definitely had it's occasional ups and many downs, honestly I’m surprised I even had art for 9/12 months because I feel like I’ve barely made anything this year… I remember I had an insane creative flow back in February but then it took a hard dip and I haven't been able to recover it since then 🥲

anyways here's to hoping 2024 is a little kinder to me because 2023 sure pushed me to the limit in several ways.

Year in Review

January

Fiona's first appearance. She had been patiently waiting in my Sims-bin since 2020. Thank you again for sending her @descendantdragfi !

February

Girl reading a letter by the open window. Recreating artworks with Sims is so fun! I should do it more often. Of course I used the most recent version of this iconic painting.

March

Deaths and births. March was packed with emotional moments in my story. Fergus and Fiona wishing for a baby, Fergus dying and then Matt's birth.

April

April's fool's joke. No, I still haven't installed reshade. :P

May

McCarric Scenes Flashback. It was fun to shoot with Graham again!

June

Roseanne in a custom tailored dress.

July

Cows and Foxes Sweater. I deeply enjoy mapping projects. It's so satisfactory to create order from chaos. It also proved to be a very popular download.

August

Andrew and Matt connecting over pulled teeth. To quote @nornities : Torture resulted in something good. Couldn't have put it any better.

September

The Mute Child. Then, to get a break from the McCarrics, I did something completely different. Well, a bit different. This being an adaptation of literature really pushed me to make it technically as neat as I could.

October

Fiona and Andrew mistaken for husband and wife. This was a nice little moment that amused me. While Fiona sees herself and Ysobel as Matt's parents, by law it's herself and Andrew. They've come to work together well, but they're very far from from having romantic feelings about it.

November

Jonathan and Nicolas. This was the final important piece of information about this generation, before their drama can really unfold. It's still noticeable that I originally planned a timeskip between the 1750s and the 1780s. I'm really glad that pace is going to slow down again and I'll get to spend more time with the characters.

December

Snow White. Traditionally, December is Christmas Special time. I've been intrigued by the reading of Snow-White for a while, showing her as a child among children, rather than a Princess in a Dwarfs' Dollhouse. Although I started preparing super early, this is the first year the story had to be put on halt.
