I absolutely ate up the book Silver Under Nightfall and its sequel Court Of Wanderers with ravenous hunger and I had to draw the main character Remy Pendergast and his partners Xiaodan Song and Zidan Malekh because they absolutely charmed me!! I definitely recommend the books, especially if you're vampire enthusiasts like me!

But then he encounters the shockingly warmhearted vampire heiress Xiaodan Song and her infuriatingly arrogant fiancé, vampire lord Zidan Malekh, who may hold the key to defeating the creatures—though he knows associating with them won’t do his reputation any favors. When he’s offered a spot alongside them to find the truth about the mutating virus Rot that’s plaguing the kingdom, Remy faces a choice.

It’s one he’s certain he’ll regret.

But as the three face dangerous hardships during their journey, Remy develops fond and complicated feelings for the couple. Mod opinion: I haven't been able to get around to this book yet, but I really want to. It sounds fun!

Silver Under Nightfall by Rin Chupeco

I just finished Silver Under Nightfall by Rin Chupeco. So good!

The setting seems to be like what you'd get if you distilled all the countries of the world into a single landmass that's, I don't know, maybe the size of Europe? With the central country being loosely based on England? I could be wrong, but that's the impression that I got.

The outcome is a sort of Victorian English vibe with a lot of diversity, and a side trip to this book's version of China. And there are vampires.

The main character, Remy, is a mixed-race has been raised by his nobleman asshole dad to be a Reaper, and kill vampires. He's very good at it, because it's literally all he's got - he's treated like an outcast by all but one other Reaper, a vampire he has befriended, and a noblewoman who has been soliciting sex from him since he was a teenager (thanks to his asshole dad); and because he's also searching for the vampire who killed his mother when he was born.

The guy is a mess, psychologically. It's both exacerbated and soothed when he hooks up with a vampire couple (Song Xiaodan an her fiancee Zidan Malekh) who are working on an alliance with the humans. There are terrifying monsters coming out of the woodwork, and conspiracies, fabulously-written fights, and in the midst of that Remy gets to explore his sexuality on his own terms and get a taste of what it means to be loved.

Wah so GOOD.

The only thing I'm mad about is that the next book doesn't come out until next Spring.
