Tumblr media
honky cat reviews is a passion project about logging and appreciating physical music media <3 as i've worked on my audio engineering degree, i've become obsessed with listening to music on physical forms. i believe strongly there is value in holding your favorite songs in your hand and supporting second hand music stores.

Quarantine music asks! 1, 8, 9, 10, 12, 14, 15, and 21!
Ash!! Thank you. These are so many questions, and I had spent WAY too much time on this, but I just have a lot of feelings about music (and am indecisive, lol).
1. Favorite song with a city in the title
At first I was like, “How many of those do I really know?” But the answer is a lot! And I like many of them—it turns out. But I’ll go with New York by St. Vincent
8. Top 3 albums
Ugh, these sorts of questions are so hard. The answer always depends on the mood and the current rotation. But (in no particular order) I’ve lately been into these three:
1) Historian by Lucy Dacus; 2) Extraordinary Machine by Fiona Apple; and 3) The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars by David Bowie
9. Top 3 karaoke songs
I’ve actually never done karaoke, but I reaaaally want to. I don’t know if I’d be great, but I’d love to do these four (‘cause I’m a rebel) songs:
1) Oh Darling! by The Beatles; 2) What’s Up? by 4 Non Blondes; and 3) Vienna by Billy Joel; and 4) Look at Me I’m Dandra Dee from Grease
10. Top 3 movie soundtracks
INSTRUMENTAL, in no order: 1) Amélie by Yann Tiersen; 2) The Shape of Water by Alexandre Desplat; and 3) Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me by Angelo Badalamenti
WITH LYRICS, in no order (except for my #1): 1) Velvet Goldmine; 2) Shrek 2; and 3)
HONORABLE MENTIONS: Videodrome by Howard Shore; Brokeback Mountain by Gustavo Santaolalla; and Edward Scissorhands by Danny Elfman
12. Top 3 favorite songs right now
Gosh. Always so hard to do favorites with such broad categories! I’ve been listening to a lot of 60s-80s music lately.
1) Tomorrow Never Knows by The Beatles; 2) Don’t Dream It’s Over by Crowded House; 3) Slice of Life by Bauhaus
14. Top 5 musical songs
All of them???? 😭😭😭 Okay okay... SOME of my favorites at the moment in no order:
1) Wig in a Box from Hedwig and the Angry Inch; 2) Don’t Tell Mama from Cabaret (specifically Jill Haworth); 3) Telephone Wire from Fun Home; 4) Wait for Me from Hadestown (specifically Damon Daunno) and 5) The World According to Chris from Carrie: The Musical
15. Top 5 musical soundtracks
TOO MANY. Ugh. Outside of Hedwig, which needs to be said twice, I tried to include different soundtracks than the ones listed above. In no order:
1) Hedwig and the Angry Inch by John Cameron Mitchell and Stephen Trask; 2) Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812 by Dave Malloy; 3) Spring Awakening by Steven Sater; 4) Next to Normal by Tom Kitt; and 5) Bare: A Pop Opera by Damon Intrabartolo
21. A song from my non-native language
I’ve been listening to a lot of French songs lately. But one of the more popular ones is Le temps de l’amour by Françoise Hardy.
Send me music asks.

Good ol' Ziggy Trask
Someone needs to start a support group of villain kids with terrible names.
Shinobi Shaw
Zigfried Trask
Sin schmidt
Graydon creed
I think Graydon is ok, just ahead of his time---like it sounds in the same vein as a lot of trendy 2000s names like Brayden and Jaden and Aiden. Which isn’t to my taste but isn’t as bad as . . the rest. Zigfried, my god. Like Shinobi and Sin are terrible but at least they sound “cool” in a comic book way but like ZIGFRIED? REALLY?

Purple and blue! <3
Sorry this took so long I've been running around town!Purple: 10 facts about my room-I have a life cast of David Bowie's face on my wall since I am an SFX makeup artist and Bowie fan.-I have a Post Pop Depression record signed by Iggy Pop hanging on my wall with a photo of me and him from one of the times I met him.-I also have the clear vinyl of Blackstar hanging on my wall. Both those records I mention I have second copies to play. -I have a ton of signed shit hanging on my walls so I'm just going to go through them on this one. I have Carrie Fisher's autograph, a Hamilton poster signed by some members of the cast, a Lazarus poster signed by main members of the cast along with their favorite lyrics try sing from the show, a Something Rotten poster signed by the cast, a bunch of signed Hedwig and The Angry Inch stuff including signatures of Lena hall, The Tits Of Clay, Michael C Hall, Rebecca Naomi Jones, Stephen Trask, Darren Criss, and John Cameron Mitchell. I have an Archie Meets The Ramones comic signed by the artists and writers, I have a Ramones poster signed by both the photographers that took the pictures in it including Roberta Bayley, I have a poster of the Rocket To Russia artwork signed by the artist John Holmstrom, I have a issue of Punk magazine signed by John Holmstrom as well, I have a poster of the first issue of spider man signed by Stan Lee. My apartment is basically a museum at this point.-I have a book collection that I really love including a book signed by Bill Nye, the Total Chaos book signed by Iggy Pop and the author, and the newer Bowie Mick Rock book signed by Mick Rock. -On my wall I have a holder for my records where I have a shit ton of records. I adore my record collection but it's a lot to list in this post 😂 I swear it's cool though I'll go through it one day.-I have a little collection of Funko Pop toys that I have with an action figure of Iggy Pop.-If you look out my window there is a billboard for the play Wicked. -I have a string of Christmas lights around where my records are and in my lamp I have this color changing bulb that is called "the party bulb" that my dad got me as a joke.-under my bead I have a shoe box filled with broadway playbills, signed Broadway playbills, concert ticket stubs, and a bunch of random little things I've picked up in my travels.-I hardly have any wall space in my apartment now so I have some posters at my parents house waiting to be hung up when I get a new place.Later when I'm at my computer I'll see if I can add some photos! Blue: 9 facts about my family-My uncle has such a large record collection he has a room in his apartment just to hold his records.-Another one of my uncles saw queen with Freddie Mercury 9 times and saw David Bowie on the Ziggy Stardust tour.-My aunt once was really drunk at a Ramones show and found Joey Ramone talking to someone outside and she just walked up to him and started scratch his back and when he was done she asked him for a photo and he said "yeah if you keep scratching my back".-My uncle that saw queen a bunch once went to a Broadway show and ended up sitting next to Keith Richards and after the show got a picture with him and they have their arms around each other (I have to find it it's super funny and they both look happy).-That same uncle is a gym buddy of the drummer for Kiss and they sync up their gym schedules up in point pleasant so my uncle can show him how to use the equipment right. My uncle still hasn't told the drummer he knows how he is (my family is fucking insane).-When my mom danced for The Beach Boys they didn't give any water to the dancers so my dad loaded all of them into his small car for find some place to find drinks after the show and he said that was the most scared he has ever been because they were all in a bad mood because of how thirsty they were.-My Dad once took my mom to a Ramones show where Blondie was opening and my mom was a huge fan of Blondie but didn't know they were opening and went their already so drunk that she fell asleep on a bench outside until my dad found her and she was able to see like 3 Ramones songs and then the show was over. It wasn't until like a year ago that my mom found out that she missed Blondie when she overheard my dad talking the story and she was so upset. When me and my dad met Chris Stein at the Ramones museum when it was in Queens we told him the story and he was laughing (my dad is better at telling the story than I am).-My grandma was always a huge Beatles fan and was in love with Ringo and a girl at her school called Ringo ugly and my grandma wasn't great at English at the time and couldn't form a good argument in English so she just started crying cause she was upset, offended, and frustrated.-My youngest brother is Aerosmith's biggest little fan.
