Dying over the concept of mythicalsies actually. Like everyone being afraid of Jack because he's this Big Tough Werewolf Guy™ meanwhile literally all he wants is snuggles so they pay no attention to Crutchie who's just stolen their name and firstborn child (or item of equivalent value)

we just had day 1 of little mermaid rehearsal (granted im just a pit singer im not rlyyy In The Show) (but it's weird to technically be part of the cast and not the crew) (anyway) so i am passing my theatre vibes to you o7
also do you want to sing the entire newsies soundtrack with me 👉👈
Dude the piano was so loud during my audition which is good, because the rehearsal track was really quiet and I was worried i wasn’t going to be able to hear it. I feel like my soul was leaving my body because I was singing so loud. If I don’t get in (which is a possibility, as I’ve never done a show with this high school before and I’ve heard they do some extensive cuts on Fall shows) I’m going to try to assistant stage manage Midsummer Night’s Dream at my school, because I need to get back into tech.
as for the singing, HELL YEAH

Here is a list of 50 of my current all time theatre dream roles (musicals and non-musicals) because I am a female acting major who is having trouble in believing my dreams for my future are attainable at this current moment:

48. Fanny Brice - Funny Girl
49. Anya - Anastasia
50. Jane - Tarzan
There’s probably even some that I forgot to put on this list that should probably be in the place of some of these other roles, but I did want to incorporate roles from non-musicals as well. I do acknowledge that this list is still very much mostly musicals, but I fear I have not read many straight plays. Also, most of the work I’ve already done is musical theatre. Which is why I’m an acting major. I want to be exposed to more pieces of theatre that don’t have singing and dancing. There are a bunch of shows that I would love to be in, but don’t necessarily have dream roles solely because they are either ensemble heavy productions or they would just be really fun projects to work on. For example, my school, Illinois State University, just did Bonnie and Clyde the Musical. That shit was GUT WRENCHING. I would have loved to be apart of that project. I don’t exactly have a dream role in that show because every role in Bonnie and Clyde is so essential to telling that story. I am however, working on my first MainStage production here at ISU. I am playing the Nurse in Equus. Again, not a show that I had any dream role going into being cast in this project. But, this story is very heavy and unique. I have never worked on a show as different and dramatic as this one. I am really excited to be part of this cast, and I will be happy to post information about this show in the weeks to come, or you can message me and ask for more details! Thanks for reading my extra long blog post for today! :)

unfinished scribble i really want to work on but my eyes are bugging me so i’m posting this instead. i’ve been watching d20 neverafter and wrote my own character as if i were playing in their campaign lmao . this is peter goodfellow a mashup of puck from midsummer nights dream and peter pan ! character details below the cut :D i’ve never played d&d so i don’t have that stuff in there . some sort of rogue w access to magic and survival skills idk
peter goodfellow (he/they) - fairies call him robin if anyone calls him that outside they’re able to get closer to finding him (enchanted name)
very strict about being called puck bc that’s the only name he chose for himself
appearance details: carries a dagger, scarred face, pseudo mullet ponytail hairstyle (kinda like jim from treasure planet lmao), usually barefoot, burrs in their hair, pocket compass, kinda dressed like a newsie but with plant elements on his clothes
the goodfellows wished for a perfect boy - the fairies thought it would be funny to send them a trickster spirit and see what the trickster would be able to get up to as a human child but he was born with robins wings so his parents left him in kensington orphanage
kensington gardens the fairy realm where titania and oberon ruled amongst other fairies
brief stint as the fairy kings assistant
if he wants to get older he has to steal people’s life force
stuck as 17 years old - not an adult but too old for anyone to want to adopt them
knows about the nature of the neverafter (similar to pib he's a trickster spirit he's just also human) (or fairy) (ooo where are his allegiances oooo)
fairies said it was about time he got older he had enough friends and killed the lost boys to make him 17
in one story jack was his best friend who saw this happen and killed him for it (and afterwards was so horrified at himself he cut his own hand off and became captain hook)
agent of chaos, keeps things moving in stories
"does anyone want to play the penis game" (screams penis) this guy loves 2 prank
moodboard !!!!

A bit random and I don't know if this is really the place to ask, but seeing everyone talk about plays and musicals has got me thinking back to when I was in stage craft, though we made stages we didn't learn a lot about the performances we were making them for. Do you have any recommendations for plays or musicals to watch? Sorry if this wasn't okay to ask here.
This is absolutely okay to ask!
Bootlegs are pretty easy to come by, and there are professional recordings of some shows but here's a non-exhaustive list of my essential musical/play viewings"
Newsies
Come From Away
RENT
Our Town
Any shakespeare play put on by the Globe (especially Macbeth or Midsummer Night's Dream)
Into the Woods
Tuck Everlasting
Les Miserables
Guys and Dolls
Chicago
Little Women
Big Fish
Waitress
The Play that Goes Wrong
Angels in America
Noises Off

do you ever think about how like. hamlet and macbeth both want to kill the king, but they're framed in wildly different ways
hamlet is told by the GHOST of his FATHER to kill claudius to avenge his dad's death. the audience already sympathizes with hamlet, and we're on his side. of course he should kill the king! that's the natural thing to do!
the witches tell macbeth that he'll become king, and he (and lady macbeth) decides on his own to do some murder to achieve that goal. he seems like Just Some Guy at the beginning of the play but we quickly (rapidly) decide that we can't support his decisions
the ghost in hamlet is depicted as some poor soul wandering the earth, and yet he proposes something inherently malicious for hamlet to do. the witches are portrayed as The Bad Guys, but they don't actually tell macbeth to do anything that he does
and hamlet is...just like the audience member. macbeth is disconnected. when we're watching hamlet, there's tension because we care deeply about the characters (and ALL of them have their moments to be sympathetic). when we're watching macbeth, there's tension because we already know what's going to happen to this guy, and it's going to be bad
i think . what i'm getting at is that neither is treated with mercy by the narrative and they handle that differently

like seriously. it's fun for my own posts that have broken containment but it's like a fricken art piece on posts with anything more than a couple hundred reblogs
and you can click the "load more data" button pretty much indefinitely to make them bigger

All the shows I’ve seen in NYC!
Tumblr media
The first time I ever set foot in New York City was in April 2011, ever since then NYC has been fueling my theatre obsession with some amazing shows, from musicals & plays to operas, concerts & cabarets. There have also been numerous 'shuttering early' cancellations, which I won't bother listing.
That’s the list so far. Obviously there will be more to come… stay tuned! (Shows booked so far for 2024: Cabaret, Sweeney Todd, The Who's TOMMY, The Hours & Water For Elephants)

A Midsummer Night’s Dream: A Newsies Modern Theatre AU
Summary: Part 3 of the Modern!Theatre!AU. Jack and Crutchie are still working at the World Theatre and living with Elaine and her brothers. March 12, 2020, their whole world changes. It is a summer of life-altering realizations as they all learn more about themselves and each other and hopefully become better people for it. Yes, this is the COVID quarantine one. Very gay. (Rated K. It’s just soft.) *** POSTING WEDNESDAYS ONLY***
Chapter One
Chapter Two (4/14/21)
Chapter Three (4/21/21)
Chapter Four (4/28/21)
PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO BE TAGGED WHEN THIS STORY IS POSTED. LET ME KNOW VIA A REPLY TO THIS POST, MESSAGE, OR IN OTHER EXPLICIT TERMS. REBLOGGING THIS POST IS NOT A CLEAR INDICATOR OF YOUR DESIRE TO BE TAGGED! THANK YOU FOR YOUR COOPERATION!!!
Current Theatre AU tag list: @the-cowbi @fifty-for-the-racer @prettyinlimegreenboots @mysticstrawberrysalad — please let me know if you’d like to be removed from the tag list!!!
What you should know going into this story:
While the other two parts of the theatre AU are based off of my own experiences working in theatre, since this story diverges from the theatre itself, it delves more into the realm of fiction. While it has a basis in some of the struggles I went through during the spring/summer of 2020, and things that happened in regards to the theatre, it will be more of an exploration into how the COVID-19 lockdown would affect these characters.
There won’t be quite as expansive of a cast in this story, unlike As You Like It and Twelfth Night, because the characters will be spending most of it in their apartment! This will, however, let us spend more time getting to know each of them a little better in regards to this AU. The characters who will be appearing are: Jack, Crutchie, Davey, Elaine, Alan, Alden, and (maybe) JD. Other characters may appear briefly and will likely be mentioned, but these 6/7 are the ones we’ll be seeing the most of!
Just like Yo Ho, Hero!, I’m writing this story without a chapter plot. This means that it will likely be more meandering and drawn-out than the other two installments in this AU, and that I don’t have a chapter count (at this point).
Disclaimer: I do not own Newsies or anything you may recognize from it. I do not own any characters you may recognize from Newsies. I do not own the play ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ or any references made to it in this story. I do, however, own Elaine, Alan, Alden, Will, JD, and this story!

WANTED CONNECTIONS
;; all we are is dust in the wind, dude. | bandmates ! jam sesh buds !
ezrael can play a mean guitar but they can also play the keyboard & sing ! they just need someone ( or several someones! ) to jam with & talk music !! either this can be a Solid Band or just people jamming together & sometimes playing shows - ez is fine with either. music is their passion.
;; if we shadows have offended. | magic friends !
just people who have helped/can help ezrael earn more about magic! they've read books and done research but they've stayed more on the Book Knowledge side of things and they've been itching to try a spell or two - nothing major, just for funsies. their dad is thackery after all, they know not to mess with the Big Stuff.
;; the whiskey sure works && lordy i love it. | drinking buddies !
ezrael is a social drinker and while they do tend to actively make friends while drinking, they much prefer to go out with friends than go out to find friends.
;; people who build their houses in your heart. | close friends !
ezrael is very social & they have friends of all sorts. but i have a feeling that they only have a few close friends - the ones they trade secrets with and always think to text first. midnight slumber party besties y'know? the sort of friends you go stargazing & contemplate life with.
;; the way that i feel, don't try to say it isn't real | exes / flings !
ezrael is pansexual & can be right flirty when they want to. perhaps they parted ways happily & are still friends! perhaps they Didn't & are anything but friendly. ez doesn't like to burn bridges but they also aren't sure if they like being tied down for too long. their dad must've passed some of his feral cat energy on to them.
&& more, i’m sure!! if you have an idea for a connection feel free to reach out !! :3
