This interview covers the life and ideology of the director of Portrait of a Lady on Fire. They of course discuss the existence and limits of the "female gaze" but also how you balance the mystery of sex with consent, challenging conventional ideas of conflict and needing to shock the audience, and how our imagination is limited by what came before us. She's interviewed by Elif Batuman, who writes a sort of autofiction about her younger self struggling through life before she had the language to describe feminism and queerness.

“In solitude, I felt the liberty you spoke of. But I also felt your absence.”
“He chooses the memory of her. That’s why he turns. He doesn’t make the lover’s choice, but the poet’s.”
“Do all lovers feel they’re inventing something?”
“When do we know it’s finished?” / “At one point we stop.”
This movie destroys and remakes me every time
