If you don't think Mia recognized Dahlia in the courtroom, when did she? Because I think by 3-5 Mia knows the twins and Morgan are working together.
Did she bring down a scrap book to show Diego her family and when flipping around realize all at once and then hurry to distract him before he could see? Afraid he might think her dedication wavering for the sake of family? That he might think worse of her if her dedication didn't?
Was it in those long lonely months after Diego was gone and while Dahlia still wandered free? When she was scrolling though Dahlias photo journal online in an attempt at investigation but was really just hate scrolling? Did she see an innocuous photo of a Japanese garden taken from the gate from the spring when the light hit the flowers just right and remember standing there. Taking it in. Before the Shrine maiden, an old woman, hurried her along for the twins test of power.
Was it as they hauled Dahlia away. Did she hiss under her breath how she was just like her mother. Ruining everything. Did she curse the Feys. The people who abandoned her. Her and her sister. Doesn't she know, this is all Her fault?
And Mia knows it's not. Isn't the reason for someone else's choices. But maybe she remembers, from behind the prison glass. Two little girls packing up their bag with not very many things. One collapsing into the other. Sobbing. The other, rounding on her to scream; This is all your fault. This is all Your fault.
Or maybe it's even later. A backhanded comment from Morgan. I heard you caught that little murderer. Congratulations, Mystic Mia. You may make a fine attorney yet. (As you don't a chief, Mia hears clear as day.) What a disgraceful girl. She hears Morgan sneer as she hurries to leave. You must not grow up like them. Morgan sweetly reminds her young daughter. Listen to mother.
And when the door slides closed Mia remembers the other girls Morgan used to sweetly remind. How it ended for one of them.

Once again annoyed with people saying games 5-6 ruined ace attorney or that they can’t “fix” everything with new games or anything. Like y’all are such pessimists and after tgaa??? You really think they won’t be able to form a half decent and coherent story that ties things together after tgaa???? Bc tgaa proves to me that they absolutely can put together a good overarching narrative that answers questions in mostly sensible ways (for ace attorney lol). Also the guy that wrote games 5-6 left capcom so like if anything it’s gonna be completely different bc of that fact alone if they make aa7. I’ve been in the fandom for almost half of my life, and it’s been wild seeing how people’s views on these games have shifted over the course of that. Idk man I just. I don’t vibe with the pessimistic views I see a lot in this fandom now.
Tldr if they make aa7 I have confidence that it at least COULD be very very good and everyone being pessimistic about it all the time is getting to me (again)

pardon me if you’re tired of discussing this but. we know aa7 is on capcom’s radar on some level. and now they’ve rereleased every game right?? they’ve finally run out of backlog material after almost yearly releases since 2019…. Not to put the clown wig and nose back on too early but do you think we’ll actually get news about, or get to see, aa7 next year?
Never tired of discussing this!! This is right around the time of year where I'd be preparing to make my yearly AA7 Speculation Post anyway so this is great timing. (TGS, my enemy, is approaching.)
So just to make sure everyone's on the same page, here's a quick recap of where we're currently at:
In November 2020 we got internal Capcom leaks which included a calendar from 2019 with the roadmap for the AA series the next couple of years. This included:
DGS1&2 collection, which I did not think was going to happen ever, releasing April-June 2021
AA7, releasing around October-December 2021, right around the 20th anniversary.
Through late 2019-mid 2022, reconsider porting 456
We got DGS1&2 (a bit later than in the plan, but by like a month), we got the 456 ports, we got bonus AAI ports, we have nothing for AA7 nearly three years after it was supposed to come out. The pandemic is an obvious feature that could contribute to its delay, but at this point with 456 ports out I think we can safely say that this was not the only cause.
Some other things that may or may not be contributing to AA7's delay include:
Yamazaki, the previous main writer for 5&6 and the AAIs, left Capcom in 2020. If he was involved in AA7 at all, that could throw a wrench into things, but I recall hearing he intended AA6 to be his last AA game (I AM STRUGGLING TO FIND THE SOURCE THOUGH SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME), so I don't think this contributed very much. It does, however, mean that we're unsure about who the next main writer is - depending on what Takumi's up to or if they had to bring someone new on, there could be complications related to that.
I think TGAA did way better than anyone expected, which I covered in this post. It's possible that this could have shifted Capcom's priorities to porting more old games / porting to all modern consoles. It may have made people at Capcom think "damn everyone loves Takumi" so they tried to lure him back to AA7, and I have no idea how well that would have gone or if Takumi is even interested in continuing mainline AA right now. (I do think this at least contributed to the Ghost Trick ports.)
In my first ever AA7 speculation post I talked about how the ending of AA6 kind of wrote them into a corner re: how to continue with the series and which protagonist to use. I still stand by that argument even if a lot of that post aged badly.
Console ports! Previously new AA games were for whichever Nintendo handheld is out now (GBA, Nintendo DS, Nintendo 3DS). But now that the series is doing really well on all consoles, they may have decided to try to make their next mainline entry on all consoles, which would take more development time. Adding to this is that the Switch is near the end of its lifecycle with the Switch 2 (or whatever the successor will be) being announced soon - meaning that, if AA7 is coming out soon, Capcom is in the position of "do we try to squeeze this into the end of the Switch's lifecycle" (which, I'll need to find sources for this, is speculated to be some of the reasons behind why AAI2 and DGS2 sold badly when they were first released, and they can't make the same mistake thrice... right...?) or "do we try to time it with the release of the Switch 2"?
Also, a lot of this depends on how far AA7 was into development whenever it was derailed. If it was derailed from the pandemic, then according to the calendar, it would likely have still been in the prototype stage. It may be early enough that they would have had to start from scratch whenever they picked it up again. I don't work in the gaming industry so I have no idea how long it takes them to make a game or how easy it would be from what stage they're in.
One thing we can compare to is some of the comments about the recent AAI ports: in this interview, Shunsuke Nishida, the producer of the AAI collection, says that development on the collection began in 2022. He also mentions that this began once development on 456 was concluded. This leads me to believe that (contrary to my previous assumptions) 456 and AAIC were not developed concurrently (or if so, had very minimal overlap), and that the process of upscaling graphics, porting, and localization took them... about a year, maybe? So that takes time, even without taking into consideration how long it would take to come up with a new idea + write the script + the bulk of the programming that would have to be done that isn't considered with porting + probably way more than I can think of because again I do not work in the gaming industry.
There's also the question of why 456 and AAIC weren't developed concurrently. The calendar from 2020 shows that TGAA and AA7 were meant to be developed at least somewhat concurrently, and the staff from TGAA would eventually merge into working on AA7. Once again, we don't know what happened to the staff that were supposed to be working on AA7. It's possible pandemic complications meant they got shuffled onto other projects. It's possible the AA-related team is smaller now than it was in 2020, so they only have enough people to work on one project at a time. It's also possible that there's a team that was working on ports, and a team that was working on a new game, and now the "port team" is freed up to work on the "new game team".
Either way though, pretty much every interview with the staff for the 456 or AAI ports are all saying "look forward to the future of the series", which is definitely Corporate Speak, but unless they're bringing the ports of the Layton crossover (fingers crossed) that can only mean one thing. (AAI anime?) Plus, like I've discussed in this post, AA is having fantastic sales in general. They've seemingly either hired a new social media manager or changed the strategy so there is much more engagement on twitter. And AA is getting on bigger and bigger announcements - though AA trilogy ports were announced at TGS (at an AA-specific panel), TGAA duology ports were announced unceremoniously on twitter. Afterwards, 456 ports got announced at the Capcom Showcase during Summer Game Fest. And now AAI collection got announced at a Nintendo Direct, which I imagine is even more expensive, so the series must be going in a good direction for them to think that's worth it!
That's a lot of rambling for me to say I definitely think it's coming.
When are we going to see it though!!
Coming up in September is my eternal enemy Tokyo Game Show. Since AAI collection is being released at the beginning of September... it might be a bit too soon to announce a new game, but who knows. They might think it's profitable to ride the hype they're building now for AAI collection to announce a new game. Or they might let it sit for a while.
With AAIC getting announced at a Direct, I'm thinking they'll want to make AA7's announcement a) big and b) global. AA6 was announced in Famitsu, but the problem with that is that it's a mostly Japanese audience, and some interviews have been talking about how AA's global audience is particularly contributing to how big it is right now. So I'm expecting AA's next announcement to be at something major and something that will get attention from overseas audiences.
If they have been working on AA7 concurrently -- and honestly I do think there has at least been some progress on it since 2019 -- we could definitely see an announcement within the next year. I was also saying this in 2020, though, so don't take my word for it. There's been two year gaps between ports up until the AAI collection, and they seemed pretty proud about releasing 456 and AAI in the same year, so... maybe they'll want to keep it going and announce AA7 within the next year, especially if they'll have a longer announcement -> release period than they normally would for ports.
Potential candidates include:
Tokyo Game Show: As previously stated, it's very close to the AAIC release, so I don't think it's the best timing for it. I would not want my favorite AA game overshadowed by whatever the hell they're going to do with AA7. Likelihood: depends on how fast they want to follow up on the hype.
The Game Awards: is the next major gaming event, but that's already massive in terms of the type of games that get announced there, and it's expensive! Nintendo Direct is one thing since AA has always been a Nintendo-first series, but I don't think it's big enough to justify putting in a Game Awards ad. and I already have my clown wig on for persona 6 there. Likelihood: pretty low tbh
Next Year's Summer Game Fest-related Shows: I think this is the most likely, considering both the 456 collection and the AAI collection were announced around this time. For AA7 I'd say a Nintendo Direct to get lots of eyes on it, especially if AAIC sales pay off. Likelihood: pretty high!
Which leads me into my wildcard answer:
Switch 2 Announcement Stream: If Capcom decides to go in and make AA7 one of the first games for whatever the switch successor would be, it could be announced here. I regret to admit that I am a very bad gamer and only like two things, and therefore have not ever been present for one of these things to know how many games get announced as launch games for a new console, but, like, it's possible.
In the above scenario, I'm not necessarily saying that AA7 would be a Switch 2 exclusive - because I think that would be stupid after so much of the support they've gotten from the ports has been from playstation and steam - but I am definitely the kind of person who would buy a console for one video game. Shoutout to me buying a switch in part anticipating that aa7 would come out on it and that is not looking likely
Anyways, that's my speculation!! Reminder that this is mostly uninformed and that I have no knowledge of anything related to sales or marketing or video game development, and as a result of that, I have been wrong (aside from the one time I accurately predicted AAI ports as a joke) for four consecutive years.

make aa7 have a 5 year gap from aa6 so everyone I shouldn't know but know anyway stayed in Khura'in for various reasons can be back at the main land to get into antics
you can even make the third case be a fucking flashback to one of the cases during the gap

APOLLO JUSTICE!!!!! AHHHHHH!!!! What i would literally give to have a true AA4 sequel. I wholeheartedly believe if Yamazaki's team could ignore aa4 canon to make 5 & 6 then Shu Takumi should absolutely be allowed to ignore any 5&6 canon to make an aa4 sequel. I'm dying out here pleaseeeeee

Summary:
I love this game so much. I love it so much that I am heartbroken knowing that AA 5 & 6 butchers the story it setup and I'm considering not even playing them unless AA7 is announced. I love all the main characters so much, the whole story was so well built and I can def see the influence the story had on DGS. Apollo is such a good protagonist, he's relatable but also so unique. I love seeing his character progression in the game: a new attorney who is easily manipulated to a confident and determined attorney who trusts in his own judgement. I LOVED Klavier oh my god. I love how much he respects Apollo and although he doesn't hesitate to tease him, he doesn't bully or abuse Apollo in any way. They both have a mutual admiration and rivalry where they try to play as fairly as possible. Klav doesn't maliciously withhold or change evidence, but he does spend hours reviewing his arsenal and thinks of all the counter arguments the defense could bring up. I really like Apollo's ability, it continues the mystery and mysticism from the original trilogy but with new mechanics. I adore Trucy so much. She honestly might be my favorite AA character. She's determined, strong willed, and above all -- extremely silly. I couldn't of asked for a better character to be Phoenix's daughter. I also LOVE the sibling reveal at the end but gdi if only they actually figure it out T^T T^T. I think Apollo and Trucy's dynamic is probably my favorite Defense and assistant dynamic. This who game was so fun, I know 4-3 is not everyone's favorite and it is a little all over the place but I also enjoyed it and loved the premise. There's so much to say, I haven't even talked about Nick and Kris - what an incredible feud, what a genius development for Nick. I cannot recommend this game enough, I am so obsessed with it and cannot wait to make art <3 <3.

and it was like
a DGS themed escape room and the trilogy remaster. idk. there was some guy dressed like a pirate or something.
My ass stayed up until like 5 am (i had to get up at 9 am) and was sorely disappointed...

on my way home from the gym i had a really stupid thought of "hey it's been 7/8 years since aa7 so what if capcom reflect that by doing another fucking time skip" i then tried to roll with this bad idea and flesh it out a bit and see what it could look like
so here i present to you my version of the worst ace attorney 7 pitch in da whole wide WORLD !!!
[SPOILERS FOR AA4 AND AA6, NOT REALLY AA5 CAUSE UH NOTHING TO REALLY SPOIL I GUESS LOL?]
come 2024 it will have been 8 years since AA6 so fuck it, 7 years time skip (Again 🙄🙄🙄) to reflect that time
introducing Ace Attorney 7, or Justice & Cykes: Ace Attorneys
Apollo has been in Khurain for the past 7 years restructuring its legal system, meanwhile Phoenix has retired from law to do the same with Edgeworth (who's stayed as Chief Prosecutor) in Japanifornia. He's still acting as a mentor to Thena and is still in charge of the WAA, but doesn't take cases himself any more. Him and Polly don't really keep in touch as much as they should, as both are too busy
maybe Apollo gets homesick tho, or Phoenix offers him his old job back or what, but either way a 31 year old Polly moves back to Japanifornia to be a lawyer there again
case 1 is a tutorial for two reasons:
1) apollo hasn't done law in this country in nearly a decade
B - phoenix has reworked the WHOLE system (i.e. introduced two fun mechanics from GAA)
it should be a simple case, but the problem is that this new system nick introduced fucking baffles polly: why does he now have multiple witnesses on the stand at once? and why is there a jury system? (does this take away from GAAs unique identity? idk)
he solves it btw ofc he does, with help from his professional magician assistant trucy
at the end of the case phoenix calls polly & trucy to his office and tells them they're siblings
cut to case two, where we are focused on an Athena case (possibly set before 7-1? so as to keep the weighty cliffhanger as long as possible). trucy is assistant for this too. fuck it. she's assistant for most/all of the game. trucy deserved better in 5 and 6, capcom.
reintroduction to investigation segments, which remain unchanged. athena, now mid 20s, is a lot more confident and independent, though maybe still needs to ask for help and advice from nick more than she'd like. solves a two day case just fine, even with new prosecutor (maybe Sebastian Debeste? or a rookie who has a similar character arc to us in previous games)
case 3 back to apollo, and him and trucy are probably taking the news itself well but not the fact it took OVER A DECADE FOR NICK TO TELL THEM, and it doesn't help that nick just pins it to him being too busy and forgetting lol
either way a case has come in so the two of them take it to distract themselves but there's gonna be a little awkward tension in the air throughout especially whenever they visit thena and nick
solve it
case 3 back to thena, and her journey of independence & also now dealing with Wright family drama lol
solves case
case 4 back to polly, who's still miffed but is trying to be an adult about it
solves case
case 5 nick is suspected of murder, and trucy is witness so Apollo and Athena work together to solve it, with alternating trial days or maybe one leading investigation and the other court
there'll be a moment where apollo can't help for whatever reason and this is athenas big breakthrough indepdence moment as she solves this bit alone
also guest prosecutor franzy von karma; reveal she was the mentor of previous prosecutor (maybe on the bench with her? why has this not been a thing other than dgs3-3 capcom.)
solves it's not nick or trucy, all of them gain confidence within each other and themselves
game over everyone's happy

I finished this a while ago but I forgot to post so oops-
But anyway, case 5-5 is one of my favourite cases from all Ace Attorney so here’s another drawing of Athena (redesign made by @reaper_bop on instagram :D) because I love her character and backstory very much
Capcom please make AA7 with her as the main character I’m begging you 😭

Entertaining myself while working by filling this in, with explanations for a few that might warrant them (and a version complete with spoiler images in the victim+culprit+defendant categories) under the cut in the off-chance that anyone wants to read them, beware SPOILERS:
(note: I omitted T/GAA1+2 because frankly this was hard enough without including them)
Tumblr media
Favorite Detective: Okay so I wasn't sure if we count Lang as a detective or not? The wiki doesn't, but functionally he kinda fills that role in the first Investigations game (not quite as much in the second but still a bit) and he IS an investigator regardless (just with Interpol rather than the precinct). And it's my list so I'm counting him 😤I love him and I like how he'll readily admit when he doesn't have evidence about something and will easily concede points to Edgeworth when they debate, but also very much is out to get answers even if his methods differ from Edgeworth's. He was also really on a roll in I1-5, like... a total MVP in that case
If he didn't count, I guess I'd say Fulbright (hence the little pic up there) even though the circumstances with him are... unusual, if you know the events of DD. But his theme song is great and he was such a fun character 😭I wanted to believe in him...
Favorite Culprit: I wholeheartedly support Simeon's chessmaster gambit of revenge and he did nothing wrong :) king shit right there
Character You Hated at First: Athena is my girl now and I love her (Athena for AA7 protag pls), but I initially found her annoying with the "interjections in other languages" gimmick (which makes a terrible early impression IMO) and her English voice (no hate but I don't think I really like anything her VA has done, especially Lyn in FE). But once I got past that, I became a big fan. Obviously I think her backstory is great lol, but she's a fun character in general and I like how she actually feels like a new lawyer. She has moments of doubt and falls apart at times, but it's believable and makes her endearing, and she always manages to come back and put on a smile. Also a big fan of the autistic readings of her character—I fully agree with them
Character You Dislike: fuck L'Belle tbh, the worst part of an already weak case. Even his theme music sucks, and that's the most damning thing of all in some ways given how good the DD soundtrack is
Favorite Witness: Most of these probably aren't all that odd, except the Bellboy? But I love him, he's so funny in the short little bit that he appears in the first game haha. Charming and he's super helpful, actively wanting to give that affidavit to Phoenix! I was excited to see that little cameo he has in I1-3 :)
Overrated Character: The original trilogy has great final culprits/villains, and then there's Matt who is just... there. To me, anyway. I can see the appeal, but I honestly don't really care for Farewell, My Turnabout as a whole. It's just not that exciting dragging out a case to try to get around his hostage situation with Maya. Having played I2 now, I kinda feel like Matt is like a lame version of Simeon in some ways :x
Overhated Character: Zak is kinda objectively shitty with his actions in AJ, but that's exactly what makes him interesting! He's flawed, but clearly Trucy loved him, so he's not totally a bad guy. Yeah, he contributed to Phoenix's legal life getting fucked up for quite a while, but it is what it is. he's also kinda hot sooooo
I also think Fawles is overhated. His story is tragic even if he contributed to Dahlia's plans, and I feel so bad for him in the last bit we see of him :(
I Expected to Like Them More: I'm cool with dickish characters so I thought I'd like Daryan more, but he's not even an entertaining dick. He's just... a dick and that's it. And yeah, his hair is so fucking dumb lol, even for this series
I Expected to Like Them Less: Rayfa looked like she'd be an annoying little brat but she's actually a very charming and endearing little brat (/affectionate), and one with a very good character arc! So I liked her a lot!! She was a lot of fun when she was Phoenix's assistant of sorts in some cases
Fender I knew nothing about going into I2 and I thought that was probably a bad sign, but I fell for him hard almost immediately. Fun, charming dialogue quirks, plays off of Edgeworth and Kay well, devoted to upholding the memory and ideals of Gregory... loooooooove him
Favorite Game: This one was VERY TOUGH and I'm still not really sure if SoJ is my FAVE fave, if you know what I mean? Honestly, Investigations 2 could very well have a claim to this slot, but I was hesitant to pick it since there might be some recency bias at play. Both of those games have the overall most consistent case quality, and both have fantastic finale cases in particular. Though thinking about it now... I2 is probably the stronger one overall and has a more cohesive narrative? But SoJ has 6-4, which is my second favorite case in the series because it is pure fun with the fantastic Athena+Simon defense duo, so ehhh, whichever. I'll just say SoJ. I guess. I dunno. Maybe? Yeah.
Every other category is probably pretty obvious why I picked my answers, especially any time Simon or Lang are said answers. I almost felt like I was cheating picking Simon so much but the heart wants what it wants 😘
(also, I feel like my answers make it look like I'm mega-biased in favor of the Yamazaki games vs. the Takumi-written ones, but that's not on purpose, and I truly like every game in the series lol. I just kinda vibe with the characters and mystery quality of the later games more for some reason. The funny thing is that I used to be a Shu Takumi-only truther of sorts—oh how the tables turn)

Ok genuinely even if I wasn’t more of a fan of aa5 and 6 than most people are I still don’t understand why y’all think it won’t be good??? P sure the main writer for those left capcom and so the main people working on an aa7 would likely be the people that made tgaa which most people agree has like some of ace attorney’s best writing. And they’ve had years to see what fans want more of and less of (though that’s how we ended up in this situation anyway tbh, but that’s a post for another day) so in theory they must have some idea of what people want to see. Idk I just genuinely do not understand why people don’t want an aa7 or think it would suck when it’s also a way to patch up some plot lines from past games and create new plot lines people will enjoy like imo aa7 is more likely to “fix” things than make them “worse” but also maybe that’s just me liking games 5 and 6 anyway.
