Day One: It’s Not a Date!
Alice didn’t know exactly when their parents had gotten so obsessed with their love life, but good Lord was it annoying. There was no need for their mom to be this involved with their outing with a friend. And, okay, maybe Alice did like her. A little. Maybe more than a little. But Ayala didn’t feel the same way and their relationship would never be anything more than friends and Alice was perfectly content for it to stay that way. Even if Ayala had the prettiest hands Alice had ever seen and making her laugh made Alice’s stomach do little jumps they were sure couldn’t be healthy. So, when they’d found out their friend had never gone ice skating Alice had been determined to take her. And for this determination to be a good friend, Alice was being rewarded by their mother knocking quietly on their bedroom door and letting herself in.
Alice didn’t look up from the charcoal drawing they were working on as their mother perched on the end of their bed. “Hi, honey.”
“Hey, mom.”
“When are you leaving?”
“Um, I don’t quite know. Ayala’s going to text me when services are over and I’m gonna pick her up at the synagogue.”
“And you have everything you need?”
“Yes, mom, for the millionth time I have everything we’ll need.”
“Okay, well, I just want to make sure. I know that after the whole Elena thing you were…you were scared of this, but I think Ayala will be good for you. I think she already has been.”
“Mom, oh my God, for the last time it’s not a date!”
Their mother regarded her child sympathetically. “Of course not, honey. But if it were, you could always tell us.”
At that moment Alice’s phone chirped and they quickly set down their charcoal, dusting off their hands and checking the notification. “I know, mom. I gotta go now, we’ll be home before dark.”
“Is she staying the night?”
“No, her parents have a work thing tonight, they’re gonna pick her up afterward.”
“Okay, I love you. Have fun.”
“Love you too, mom.” Alice hopped out of their desk chair and gave their mom a quick one-armed hug before rushing out of the room. After a few moments, their mom stood up and walked over to the desk across the room, smiling sadly at the drawing of the familiar girl Alice had left open on their desk.
When Ayala slid into the passenger seat of Alice’s dad’s truck her cheeks and nose were tinged pink with the cold and she shivered slightly. Alice admonished her for not dressing for the weather with a laugh, handing their own scarf over and turning up the heat in the car.
“Winters are rainy where I come from, Alice!”
“Well, that’s why I’m here to teach you how to deal with a real winter.” After about half an hour Alice parked next to the fence surrounding their aunt and uncle’s sugar beet fields and reached into the seat behind them to grab the bag containing the ice skates before climbing out of the truck and walking around the front to give Ayala a hand down.
Ayala shut the door of the truck gently, turning around and stopping in her tracks. “Wait, this isn’t your house. Where are we?”
Alice fumbled with their key ring, finally landing on a small silver key they inserted into the padlock and unlocked it, pushing the gate open. “It’s my aunt and uncle’s farm. Don’t worry, I told them we were coming over. There’s a river in the woods behind the fields that’s good for ice skating, my cousins and I used to race each other on it.”
Ayala smiled fondly. “That feels very Little Women.”
“Don’t tell Jimmy and Jacob that, they’d be livid.”
Ayala laughed and Alice’s heart danced, and fifteen minutes later both were sitting on a fallen tree tying their skates on.
Ayala regarded the ice Alice stood on warily, narrowing her eyes at the bumps on the surface. “Is this safe?”
“It’s a good six inches, it’ll hold your weight and mine three times.”
“How do you know?”
“’Cuz about three inches to the left are snowmobile tracks and those things are far heavier than we are. Come on, you can hold onto me for support.”
After a few more moments hesitation, Ayala stepped onto the ice, trying not to lose her balance before reaching Alice. Upon reaching them, Ayala clung to Alice’s bicep, not trusting her legs to keep her upright.
“Okay. Now what?”
“Now I’m going to start skating, you keep holding on and copy what I’m doing. The balance is in your hips and stomach.” Slowly, Alice started skating circles on the river with Ayala holding onto them for dear life. “Ayala, you need to move your legs.”
“Yep.”
“…You’re still not moving your legs.”
“Nope.”
Stopping short, Alice turned around and held Ayala by the shoulders. “You okay?”
“Mostly.”
“Ayala, I’m not gonna let anything bad happen to you, y’know. You’re safe on this river and you’re safe with me.”
“I know, I know. Can we just…try again?”
“Of course.”
An hour later Ayala tentatively let go of Alice to glide on her own, only making it a few feet before her skate hit a dip in the ice and she jerked forward and would have slammed into ice had Alice not dove forward to catch her. They hefted her to a standing position by the waist, struggling to not send both of them careening down the river.
“You alright there?”
“Yeah, a little shaken but I’m fine.”
Realizing how they were holding Ayala, by the waist and close to their own body, Alice quickly retracted their arms and turned around, skating over to their backpack to check the time and not noticing the disappointed look Ayala sent after them. “We should be heading back soon, it’s almost 4:30 and I told mom we’d be back before it was dark out.”
Letting out an almost inaudible sigh, Ayala agreed and carefully made her way over to where Alice was switching out their skates for boots and doing the same.
Around nine the doorbell rang and Alice, already standing, went to answer it. Upon opening the door, they found a tall blonde man in a thick woolen jacket and scarf who blinked at them like he couldn’t quite figure out what was wrong with the image in front of him. “You’re not Ayala.”
“No.”
“You the date?”
“What?”
Alice didn’t have time to try and comprehend what the man had said before all five feet and three inches of Ayala Shafir barreled past them and pushed the man back off the porch. “Björn get back in the car right fucking now or so help me-“
The man laughed, pushing his long hair out of his face. “Alright, alright, I’m going. And hey, Alice, right? Just kiss her already, she won’t shut up about you.”
“Björn!”
He feigned a face of regret before giving Alice a little wave and trudging back to the car waiting outside.
“Was…that your dad?”
Ayala whirled around, shock and blush staining her cheeks. “No! Björn runs the LGBT shelter I..volunteer at. My parents’ thing ran late and he said he would pick me up.”
“Oh. So. You talk about me all the time?”
“I’m sorry if that makes today weird, I swear I really am okay with us just being friends I just really care about you and-“Ayala made a muffled surprised noise as Alice’s lips clumsily met her own for a few too-quick seconds. “Oh.”
“I think today was a pretty good unofficial first date.”
Ayala nodded speechlessly, her lips still tingling, but was startled out of her daze by the sound of a car horn honking. “I should…go.”
Alice nodded, barely able to keep the disappointment from showing on their face.
“But, let’s do this again? When we both know what’s really happening.”
“I would love that.”
Ayala smiled all the way out to the car, ignoring the smug look on Björn’s face when she slid into the passenger seat.
@yourbookcouldbegayer
prompt was two of your characters are going ice skating. It’s not a date- they swear it - but everyone, including their friends, thinks it is.

Send me a “🖊+an OC“ and I will talk about that OC! It can be a headcanon, a fun fact, a small paragraph of backstory- anything!
tooth i would die for you thank you for still remembering this awful manbaby
Mitchett has a variety of insults for people but he’s most prone to calling people he doesn’t like ‘puddle-dwellers’ or any derivative of that. it’s a common term for people that come from the sunken cities, and one that was used against him a lot in his youth. albinism is a trait that’s commonly associated with natives of carce, while not abundant enough to be the majority it’s still a physical attribute that makes people think ‘’you’re from down there’’ DESPITE THE FACT THAT IT’S LITERALLY JUST AS COMMON ON THE SURFACE ( tbh the only reason it seems like there’s a Lot of people with albinism in carce is because the population compared to The Entire Surface is .. teeny; carce’s population is probably around 10% of the surface population in its entirety ) . people are just dumb and create stereotypes to pit against each-other, even in a fantasy land where dragons and elves and magical chaos exists -- and Mitchett finds it funny to use an insult meant for him against others, if only because they will take it far more personally than he ever did. if he’s genuinely insulted he will do a lot worse than insults, but if you catch him in a petty mood you get to listen to him using outlandish and nonsensical phrases that are literally just comments made about him in the past that he’s echo-ing back at you.

Warnings: tiny bit of swearing, let me know if theres any more
“And you’re certain you haven’t discerned any information on a past encounter between your friend and Prince Roman?” Logan reiterates, taking this Patton boy on a condensed tour of the castle. If he insisted upon staying, the advisor supposed it was the least he could do to keep him occupied. From the mesquite banisters to the polished oak floorings, Logan allows himself a reprieve of pleasure in showing off the palace to someone who isn’t so used to its grandeur.
“Not a clue!” Patton replies. That incessant smile hasn’t left his face since they left the meeting room, where the prince and Virgil remains to hammer out some minute details about the current situation. Perhaps the most bothersome thing about this boy is his refusal to admire the finer points of architecture, instead favoring trivial nothings like the garden. “I’m not stupid, you know, so you can stop mentally criticizing me.” At Logan’s stunned expression, he continues, “it’s written all over your face. Just think of me like a normal person, just like you, and we’ll get along great.”
Logan draws the corner of his lip between his teeth, eyebrows furrowed. He was certain his countenance was neutral, and it wasn’t like him to let emotions slip through the cracks. Opting to instead change the subject, he turns to a still-beaming Patton and suggests a return to the meeting room. “They’ve probably figured everything out by now,” he adds, veering through a side door for a shortcut.
“We’re back!” Patton exclaims, bursting into the first available room. “Did you mi—oh no where’d they go?” The only person watching him back, a note of confusion in their eyes, is someone in a kitchen staff uniform. Definitely not Virgil or Roman, at the very least.
“Wrong room,” Logan replies, pointing to a door further down the same room. Patton follows the direction and repeats himself, this time to a more familiarly occupied area.
“We’re back!” Did you miss us?” He catapults himself into a hug with Virgil, while Logan strolls in more calmly behind. Roman sidles up next to him, watching the pair converse.
“Anything?” the prince asks. The only giveaway to his worry toward the mysterious boy is the small lines wrinkling near his mouth, likely from biting the corner of his lip. A habit he picked up from his advisor years ago, one that neither had managed to drop.
Logan shakes his head. “He’s as ignorant of the situation as you. Speaking of which, what’ve you got?”
Roman sighs, still watching Patton fawn over Virgil. “All I heard was sarcastic comments. Whatever his deal is, he’s not giving it to me. I even asked a guard to check out the library on our way down earlier for any mentions of a Virgil in the records, but nothing up until he passed a boundary. No evidence of him ever having a boundary set until he broke it. Where did this kid come from?”
“I’m not deaf, y’know,” Virgil calls, scowling beside Patton. “Just because I didn’t answer your stupid questions doesn’t mean I can’t, it just means I won’t.” Roman sticks his tongue out before making an about face and turning for the door.
“I suppose we may as well continue the tour, shall we?” he tosses over his shoulder. The other three follow, Patton bouncing between decorations as Virgil maintains a straight line path. Logan brings up the rear, schooling his features into a cool disinterest as he observes the newcomers. From the towering windows to the dangling chandeliers, nothing ceases to amaze Patton, while everything endlessly bores Virgil. Perhaps the most strange thing Logan picks up on is the few manners Virgil demonstrates, which he shouldn’t have any knowledge of. From issuing a respectful bow to the highest member of the royal guard to properly addressing the palace staff by their official title, Virgil seems to have already grasped the ropes without being handed the knot. Logan makes a mental note to look deeper into the matter later as Patton comes running up beside him. Ahead, Virgil stiffens.
“What’s your favorite part of living in the palace?” Patton asks. Detecting no malice or ulterior motives in his voice, Logan decides a dignified response is in order.
    “The library.”
    “Can we see it?”
“I don’t see why not. Roman!” The prince in question turns back from where he’s failing miserable at walking beside Virgil, who isn’t having any of it, changing his pace to remain alone. “To the library.”
“To the library!” Roman declares, a finger raised triumphantly in the air. Logan does his best to meet Patton’s enthusiasm with diminished politeness, more focused on Virgil’s inexplicable etiquette than the charm of a castle that’s worn off from him. One of the only places he truly cares about anymore rapidly draws near, Roman throwing the doors open with a grand flourish of the arms. Patton bursts through, roaming the aisles with Roman in tow, as Logan hangs back to run a hand over his favorite cypress desk. Lost in thought, he’s unprepared and a good deal startled when a purple clad figure materializes at his side. Logan gives a slight nod before Virgil jabs an accusing finger at his chest.
“Listen here, pal.” Contempt drips from Virgil voice, taking Logan aback to the point that he leans against the desk for support. “I don’t know what bull you people are trying to feed me, and frankly? I couldn’t care less. But if you so much as lay a finger on my friend?” Virgil punctuates each word carefully with another stab of his finger, forcing Logan back until he’s leaning on his elbows and gazing up at Virgil. “You’d better pray to whatever higher power there might be. You will stay away from him, and if anything I do to protect him from you monsters is wrong, then so help me, I will face God and walk backwards into hell.”
Roman pops his head around a bookshelf, asking if everything is still okay. Virgil flashes a thumbs up, acting as if his threat had never happened, letting it settle in Logan’s gut. Something lingers in Virgil’s eyes, something Logan has no intention of going up against. Something that terrifies him.

Love That Moves the Sun and Other Stars
Summary: If you thought defying death, becoming the most powerful witch currently living, defeating Satan, defying death again, and becoming immortal was difficult, you were obviously mistaken. Coronation, royalty lessons, and pesky in-laws make the idea of facing Satan again more appealing with each day that passes. Luckily, your husband is by your side for it all. But will the love you share be enough to get you through these challenges?
Word Count: 1292 (just a short little introductory bb to set this up)
A/N: Ahhhhh I'm so excited for this! This is officially the first chapter of As Above, So Below's sequel. I've had so much fun revisiting these characters again, and I hope you have fun reading. If you enjoyed, please like, reblog, and comment. If you haven't read AASB before, strap in and click this link, because it's 70k+ words of pure goodness. Lastly, if you want to be on a taglist, let me know!

(moodboard made by the amazing @brattylovee)
She feels them before any of her other senses pick up on them. Being a goddess means her senses are especially attuned to any sort of disturbance, and that’s no different here. It’s an evolutionary trait, one meant to make sure that those gifted with immortality have an upper hand in case of danger, but there’s no danger here. Achlys, or Zoe (she doesn’t really have a preference which name you call her), smiles when she realizes that those she cares about are finally home. Indeed, those around her begin to pick up on this return too. Even Cerberus lifts his heads up, studying the noises he hears before jumping up in excitement and bounding towards the throne room. Zoe chuckles, standing from her spot in one of the many sitting rooms and transmuting herself to the throne room.
The hellhound does not even blink when he sees that one of his mistresses reached his destination before he did, screeching to a stop and barking happily. The king of the Underworld stands in the center of the throne room, his new wife holding onto his arm. Neither you (the aforementioned new wife) nor Michael can wipe the smiles off of your faces, both so wrapped up in newly wedded bliss that it’s impossible to not let the rest of the world see how happy you are. Only Zoe clearing her throat breaks your eyes away from those of your husband’s, and you grin even wider when you see her.
“Zoe!” you greet, untangling your hand from Michael’s to wrap your arms around your friend. “I’ve missed you!”
“Oh yes, because I’m sure you had plenty of time to think about those of us here while Michael was whisking you around the world.” Her eyes twinkle with mirth as she teases you, briefly letting go of you to customarily curtsey in the direction of Michael. “My lord.”
“I believe we’ve been past these formalities for about 200 years now, Zoe,” Michael says as he comes up behind you and puts a hand on your shoulder.
“Force of habit.” Zoe turns back to you. “So? How was everything?”
“Oh, the honeymoon was wonderful. Michael took me to Greece, and he did some magic to make Athens look like how it did when everybody thought you lived on a mountain.”
“Stunning, isn’t it?”
“I don’t know what was better, Rome, France, or Greece.”
“They all have their charms.”
“Bet the sex was good, too.” Hecate appears with her arms crossed, smirking at you and Michael.
“That’s really inappropriate--” Michael starts, but you cut him off.
“You wish we would tell you.” You wink, Madison laughing and pulling you into a hug. Knowing that she’s finally getting used to hugging, you smile victoriously. “Anyways, the honeymoon was great...for me, at least.”
Madison laughs. “It wasn’t great for Michael?”
“No, he felt like it was ruined because I made him meet my parents.”
Michael scowls as if to emphasize your point. “I’m a god, why is it that meeting my wife’s mortal parents intimidates me?”
“He’s just being dramatic; my parents love him!”
“Do they know that you’re married?” Zoe asks.
“No, we said we’re ‘dating’ and taking things slow, which, in Underworld time, we technically did.”
“Gods, I wish I would have been there for that conversation,” Madison chimes in.
The doors open, interrupting your conversation, and Michael’s right hand demon appears with a bow. “My lord, welcome back.”
“Thank you, Cassius.” Like a switch being flipped, Michael assumes the position of God of the Dead.
“I hope you enjoyed your vacation, for we have quite the workload for you to tackle.”
“Yes, of course.” You look at Michael with a pout, which really isn’t fair on your part considering you just spent the past month uninterrupted with him, but still...you thought you would at least be able to relax with him a little bit before jumping back to work.
“King stuff?” you ask.
Michael nods. “King stuff.” He kisses your head just barely, already on the move to go handle whatever’s first on the long list that Cassius is holding. “But don’t worry, you’ll have plenty to keep you busy, what with the coronation and all.”
“The coronation?”
“Yes, your advisors will explain it further.” Michael glances behind his shoulder. “I love you!”
“I love you too.” But he’s already gone. “Did you two know anything about a coronation?”
“No, but it’s kind of assumed that there would be one, since you married a king and all,” Madison says.
“You’re my advisors, so tell me about the coronation.”
Madison laughs. “We’re far too important to be anyone’s advisors. No, as the soon-to-be Queen of the Underworld, you have an actual staff.”
“But...do I actually need a whole staff?”
“Considering you’ve never done any sort of crash course on how to be nobility, I would say that you do.”
You nod sagely. “Like in Princess Diaries.”
Madison and Zoe share a confused look. “I have no idea what that means.”
“Oh, it’s a movie. Basically this girl finds out from her grandma that--”
“I wish I could say that I’d watch it, but I won’t.” At this point, Madison interrupting you is so normal that it doesn’t even phase you anymore. “But let’s face it, you’re going in completely blind. You need some sort of help.”
“Why from other people though? I’d rather that you and Zoe just helped.”
“Neither of us are skilled at planning coronations, and we can’t guarantee that we’ll always be around whenever you need to learn something related to your new role. We’ll certainly try, though,” Zoe says.
“Who’s this ‘we’ you’re talking about?” Madison jokes. “Don’t stress about it, okay?”
“I’m not!” you insist.
“I can see it in your face, you totally are. Nothing’s going to change, and you have nothing to worry about.”
“Besides having to learn how to be a queen?”
“Besides that. But I thought you knew that you would have to do this?”
“I did, but I just didn’t think it would be so sudden. I thought I would have some time after getting back before having to deal with this.”
“Okay, you need to get out of your head,” Zoe says, “and we’re going to show you that things will still be as they were before you married Michael.”
“How are you going to do that?”
“Well, how much of the Underworld have you explored before?”
“Not much. Michael took me to Elysium for a date once, and we went to see the Fates, but the only other time I had been out of the castle was when I ran and that monster almost ate me.”
“Perfect. We’re having a girls’ night out, then, and showing you the fun parts of the Underworld.” Madison squeals upon hearing Zoe say this, and you can already see the wheels turning in her head. You’re not sure if that’s a good thing or a bad thing yet.
“There are fun parts of the Underworld?”
“Why would we continue to live here if there weren’t?” Madison asks, and you admit that she has a point.
“Consider it, like, a bachelorette party! Mortals do that, right?” Zoe looks at you in anticipation.
“Yeah, but I’m not really a bachelorette anymore.”
“So? It’s a belated party, and any event like this is an excuse to go have fun.”
“Oh, alright.”
Zoe claps her hands together. “Perfect! Let’s go find some suitable outfits.”
Zoe and Madison each take one of your hands, walking and chatting about the places that they want to take you and where they think you would like best. Though you huff and roll your eyes, you have to admit: it’s good to be home.

20 Questions for Fic Writers Game
Thank you for the tags @the-unforgivenn @wroteclassicaly @onegirlmanytales @word-wytch
It's always fun to learn more about friends through these games.
1) How many works do you have on A03? - 10, technically.
2) What's your total AO3 word count? - 206k
3) What fandoms do you write for? - Currently Stranger Things. I used to write for The Vampire Diaries. I have a lot of half-abandoned never published fics for a bevy of fandoms though.
4) What are your top five fics by kudos? - The Store Manager Verse, Freaky Friday, Heaven, Hymns, Hell
5) Do you respond to comments? Why or why not? - Uhm...AO3 is pretty new to me...so I haven't responded to them on there yet really. On Tumblr I try to respond/reblog most comments. Lately I've fallen off the wagon, see my earlier post about my brain being broken.
6) What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? - I would say As Above, So Below is pretty angsty as a whole. All 3 prequels- Heaven, Hell, and Purgatory.
7) What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? - As of now, Freaky Friday because it's the only fic that has an ending, truly.
8) Do you get hate on fics? No.
9) Do you write smut? If so, what kinds? - Yes, I'm very poetic with it. I'm not writing smut for the sake of smut. There are writers on here that do it very well. Smut as a plot device, smut for symbolism...that's me. We're about to get into 3 smut-heavy chapters of AASB and sorry but every time someone cums, it's going to have a lot of meaning behind it. Earth shattering orgasms can also potentially shatter the earth here.
10) Do you write crossovers? - Yes, a long time ago a friend and I tried to flesh out Auror Ron Swanson (Parks and Rec/HP). It never went anywhere.
11) Have you ever had a fic stolen? - Not that I’m aware of.
12) Have you ever had a fic translated? - Again, not that I'm aware of.
13) Have you ever co-written a fic before? - See #10. I am also currently (i.e. have been since 2017) co-writing a original story with an IRL friend. It's a passion project kind of situation/escapism. We don't get together very much and she is very much the type to want to rewrite every scene 4 times and that's not my thing.
14) What's your all time favorite ship? - It’s a tie between Steddie and Ronance.
15) What's a WIP that you want to finish, but doubt you ever will? - My Vampire Diaries Fic that sits at 500k in a Word Document somewhere and no longer exists online. I even made a TikTok about it once upon a time. FUNNY HOW THAT WORKS.
16) What are your writing strengths? - I don't know. I'm not too critical of myself in this work. I know when I'm doing something right? How about that. My confidence. It isn't misplaced. When I strike gold and I can really mine that vein and I am always proud of my work when I hit post. (Cut to my friends who are like "really Jo? you asking me about xyz at 3am isn't very confident.")
17) What are your writing weaknesses? - I don't edit anything. Probably more than that. Like I said, I'm not too critical of this work.
18) Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? - Is it integral to the story? Are you using that dialogue to emphasize something in the story? Do you know the language? Do your readers know it? Something something, I could talk about this more in-depth, if you're really interested in my thoughts on it it's gonna have to be on another day. I've used a handful of non-English words in AASB as a whole, but there's a reason for them. Lets just leave it at that.
19) First fandom you wrote for? - YuGiOh.
20) Favorite fic you've written? - As Above, So Below. It's my baby, it means a lot to me. Once it's done, I'm going to be incredibly sad. It doesn't get a lot of love now, and honestly I'm kind of ok with that. Because the love it does get...I know the people who are reading it are aware of all the weight it holds, and they're able to pick up on all of the complexity of it. It isn't fanfiction in the traditional sense, I don't think. Our favorite characters just happen to be in it.

Krel Fic Rec List, Pt. 1
I’ve been kicking around the idea of making a Krel-centric fic recommendation list for a while, but only just got around to it. Whoops!  Just as a disclaimer, I won’t be able to fit every Krel fic in here, so there might be a part two, depending on if I have time.
Fics that are not bold are complete. Fics that are bold are in progress.
-- Longfic, Plot Heavy --
Wizards: The Ones Who Stayed by AkozuHeiwa - Rated T - 137k
Where do I start? This is a pre-Wizards sequel to 3Below, featuring Krel, Steve, Seamus, most of the central cast, and some truly incredible original characters as they contend with existential threats based on Arthurian lore and a side of Gaylen’s Core theory. There’s strong themes of whump and hurt/comfort, threaded between well-crafted plot threads that meet in a devastating conclusion. Ako is an amazing writer and their effort really shines through here.
Legacies by AkozuHeiwa - Rated M - 20k (so far)
Yes, there is a sequel to Wizards: The Ones Who Stayed (Wizfic for short), and it’s being posted on a weekly basis right now!! Legacies has only just started, and it’s already intriguing - so much so that I took three pages of paper notes on the latest chapter to aid in my theorizing. Krel’s back, along with Toby, Douxie, Steve, and a few of the OCs from Wizfic in a story that’s got so much angst already that I’m almost afraid to find out what happens next.
As Above, So Below by Taggerbug - Rated T - 40k (so far)
Yeah, this is mine! It’s inspired by Danny Phantom fic and is full of angst, speculative biology, and ethical dilemmas. I felt weird writing a review since I know what happens next, so here's a summary from Ako:
“ AASB is an in-progress multi-chapter fic full of angst and intrigue. The suspense through each chapter keeps you on the edge of your seat, and it looks like it's going exciting places with an interconnected plot and mysterious enemies and compelling OCs. Krel's plot in particular looks extremely angsty and exciting, so definitely check it out!” - AkozuHeiwa
Base II by just_another_author01 - Rated T - 15k (so far)
Now this is a real find. Krel is arrested by a military research base, where he encounters other aliens and some suspiciously sympathetic staff. There are several well-written original characters and some very intriguing worldbuilding. Definitely worth getting into before it updates!!
Odin’s Eye by AzTheDragon - Rated G - 14k (so far)
I don’t usually read HTTYD fic, but this crossover caught my eye because Krel and Jim aren’t often written together. It starts with some unexpected time travel and suspenseful unnamed monsters, and the mystery only grows from there. I’m very much looking forward to seeing where this one is going!
Ricochet by Depreshroom - Rated T - 6k (so far)
A post-Wizards whump and hurt/comfort fic that places Krel at a crossroads with the Arcane Order and his friends, with hints of Krel’s connection to Gaylen. Calamity occurs, and Jim and his friends have to find a way to solve it. This fic is just getting started, but shows a lot of promise.
stay up, like a good fight by Euphoriette - Rated G - 9k (so far)
After the events of Wizards, yet another apocalypse descends on Arcadia, with Krel at the center of it. He’s being pursued by Akiridion zealots who are determined to capture him by any means possible, resulting in angst and heartbreak. I’m looking forward to getting my heart ripped out in future chapters for sure!
-- Ships --
The Limit Does Not Exist by PurpleRose244 - Rated G - 178k - Space Camp
This is a must-read for space campers, a completed longfic that has it all - angst, hurt/comfort, four-armed hugs! It’s mostly canon compliant to 3Below but with more focus and development on space camp. It’s pretty long, but ends with a satisfying conclusion
Somos Algo by jetblock - Rated T - 22k (so far) - Space Camp
A space camp canon divergence, focusing on a summer in which Krel is trying his best to fix the Mothership while Seamus deals with being held back from the space program by his father. Slow burn ensues.
Win First, Think Later by Lobel - Rated T - 17k (so far) - Space Camp
After Krel is left behind in Arcadia, he looks forward to finally getting to spend time with his friends. However, he still has to confront - however unwillingly - the aftermath of fighting Morando and losing his parents. Even worse, he hasn’t adjusted to living as a human as much as he’d like to believe.
The View From The Sky by AkozuHeiwa - Rated G - 2k - Hammerhack
A fluffy one-shot of my favorite gaymers (Toby and Krel) who get dragged to a ski resort by Aja and Jim. It’s so sweet it makes me blush!!
California Friends by spideyfool - Rated G - 2k (so far) - Hammerhack, Starry Knight
A series of delightful one-shots with various rarepairs.
-- Gen. One-Shots --
Bitter Water by spideyfool - Rated T - 5k
This one-shot is a really interesting take on Krel’s relationship with Aja and his dead parents, and features some vivid body horror - so be sure to read the tags! Some excellent hurt/comfort, and Starry Knight (Krel x Jim) if you squint.
Press Restart by spideyfool - Rated G - 1k
An extremely interesting character study of Krel, consisting of snippets set throughout 3Below. Very introspective and thoughtful.
And these dark roads aren’t so lonely by YellowMagicalGirl - Rated G - 1k
An ominous one-shot exploring the concept of Krel contemplating the use of Gaylen’s Core and dark magic to bring his parents back from the dead.
---
This list is in no way comprehensive, so feel free to add on any Krel-centric fic recs!! :)

Day Six: Merry Christmas?
Alice woke to their phone buzzing itself towards the edge of their bedside table. In a very delayed reaction, they managed to catch it just before it fell off and swiped to answer the call.
“Alice?!”
“Ayala it’s,” Alice pulled the phone away from their ear to check the time, “almost one in the morning, what happened?” Alice scrubbed a hand over their face and propped themselves up on their elbows.
“I think I just knocked out Santa Claus.”
“I’m sorry, what?”
“I went to take a piss and heard someone come up behind me and I just swung and then fucking Santa Claus crashes to the floor.”
“OK, uh, I don’t know how to help you in this situation, babe.”
“Can you come here?”
“I-” Alice sighed, realizing there was no way they’d be able to sleep after this anyways. “Yeah, just let me get dressed. What’s your address?”
“I uh, well I’m actually staying with a friend because my parents are out of town but it’s 2121 Lake Road, National City.”
“National- babe that’s almost half an hour away!” Alice exclaimed in a whisper, pushing themselves up to a sitting position in bed and sighing again. “OK, yeah, I’ll be there in a bit, then. See you.”
“Thank you.”
---
Half an hour later Alice pulled into the gravel driveway of the house Ayala was at, immediately noticing the girl standing outside with a prostrate figure next to her. Getting out of their car, Alice slowly walked over to their girlfriend and the prone man clad in red next to her.
“Oh God, you weren’t kidding.”
“I wouldn’t have asked you to come all the way out here if I were joking. I don’t know what to do! I’m an good Jewish girl I don’t deserve this.”
Alice let out a small chuckle, simultaneously amused and incredulous. “This is some serious Santa Clause shit, Ayala. Is a golden ladder gonna appear out of nowhere next?”
“Uh, apparently.” Ayala pointed behind Alice, who turned around tentatively to find an ornate golden ladder leaning against the house next to them.
“OK, this is, getting weird, to say the least. Um, alright well Santa isn’t actually dead, right? He’s just unconscious, so maybe if we haul him up there and get him in his sleigh he’ll wake up and we’ll be done with this.”
“It’s worth a shot.”
After a few minutes of struggling to lift the deadweight up the ladder, the two eventually hauled Santa onto the gabled roof where a team of reindeer was waiting in front of a sleigh.
“Did you know,” Alice grunted under the weight of Santa, “that adult male reindeers shed their antlers in winter?” They helped Ayala drag Santa into his sleigh then stood at a small distance from the line-up of reindeer. “So unless Santa employs child labor, all these lovely specimens must be gals. Isn’t that right?” The reindeer directly in front of Alice grunted, stamping her hoof, and they laughed, turning around to face Ayala with a wild grin on their face. “I just talked to a fucking reindeer and it responded. Why won’t Santa wake up yet?”
“Maybe I accidentally sent him into hibernation.”
“Are you saying Santa hibernates until Christmas?”
“Maybe? I don’t know! What are we supposed to do if he doesn’t wake up?”
“I have an idea but you’re not going to like it.”
“No. No, I absolutely refuse to be Santa.”
“Come on, Ayala! Millions of kids will be disappointed.”
Ayala looked Alice in the eye and, seeing the child-like stubbornness there, conceded. “Fine, but he better wake up before the night ends because I am not going to the north pole.”
“Yes! Oh, my childhood dreams lived out.”
“You’re an ass.”
---
So, apparently, Christian children sleep on the couch, and their parents let them, to catch a Santa Claus who, until tonight, Ayala had thought was complete horseshit. Couldn’t the universe let her have one normal day? No, she had to be caught by some blonde-haired, blue-eyed princess somewhere on the West Coast. Ayala did not sign up for this shit.
“Are you an elf? Why are you wearing Santa’s suit if you’re an elf? Just who are you, lady?”
Ayala stared at the little girl interrogating her, a million different responses surfacing in her brain but none of them finding their way to her mouth. Clearing her throat awkwardly, Ayala set the present in Santa’s bag down under the tree and backed away.
“Where are you going?”
“Little girl I don’t have time for this.”
“But who are you!?”
Ayala sighed and stopped just in front of the girl’s fireplace. “I’m Santa Claus! Surprise, I’m actually a tiny Middle Eastern Jewish girl, tell all your friends!” Desperate to escape, Ayala stepped into the fireplace, the last thing she saw being the confused face of the little girl who’d caught her. What a story for the grandkids.
@yourbookcouldbegayer
prompt was one of your characters develops superpowers and, Charlie Brown-esque, accidentally puts Santa Claus (or a St. Nick-ish figure) out of commission. Now they have to fill in for them for the night. (If your character’s not Christian, take the opportunity to make several ironic jokes…I know I will!)
so i totally ignored the superpowers part, apologies
