How do you meditate?
There’s no one correct way to meditate. That’s because meditation can take many different forms. Experts have analyzed meditation practices and found that some common processes happen across different meditation forms. These are:
Body-centered meditation: This is sometimes called self-scanning. Doing this involves focusing on the physical sensations you can feel throughout your body.
Contemplation: This usually involves concentrating on a question or some kind of contradiction without letting your mind wander.
Emotion-centered meditation: This kind of meditation has you focus on a specific emotion. For example, focusing on how to be kind to others or on what makes you happy in your life.
Mantra meditation: This kind of meditation involves repeating (either aloud or in your head) and focusing on a specific phrase or sound.
Meditation with movement: This type of meditation can involve focusing on breathing, holding your breath or performing specific body movements. It can also involve walking while focusing on what you observe around you.
Mindfulness meditation: This form of meditation is about staying aware of what’s happening at the moment rather than letting your mind wander and worrying about the past or future. It can also involve a similar approach as body-centered meditation, using what you feel throughout your body as a foundation for your awareness of the world around you.

Parsvottanasana is a standing asana involving an intense side stretch, it is a part of Hatha yoga (a branch of yoga that tries to channel or preserve energy). The name is derived from Sanskrit words, “Parsva”, meaning side or flank, and “Uttana”, where ‘ut’ means intense, ‘tan’ means to stretch or extend and “asana”, which means yoga or posture. Thus, this pose or asana involves an intense side stretch. It is called pyramid pose in English. The preparatory pose of Parsvottanasana is Uttanasana, and follow up pose is Sirasana.
How to do it?
Parsvottanasana must be done correctly for maximum health benefits. Practising this asana on an empty stomach or at least four hours after any meal is advised. It is best to practise Parsvottanasana early in the morning as the body is fresh and active during this time. One may perform Parsvottanasana in the following manner:
First, stand in Tadasana; stand straight with your feet firm and aligned at shoulder level. Arms are in a relaxed position on either side. Next, take a deep breath and join both palms in the namaskar position behind the back. Stretch your shoulders slightly back. Breathe out and, with a deep breath, jump and spread your legs a few feets apart; now, your right leg will be a few feet in front of your left leg. Inhale and bend your head and upper body forward and try to touch your nose on the knee of your right leg. Stay in this position for 20-30 seconds, and bring your head slowly back by lifting your upper body back. Breathe out and relax. Repeat this pose by bringing your left leg forward. . What is Yoga Alignment?
Alignment is the term we use in yoga to describe the precise way to do any given pose in order to maximize its benefits and minimize the risk of injury. The ideal, if you will. Now, when you hear words like ‘precise’ and ‘ideal’, we understand if you start to get freaked out. You might feel like you are being judged by the concept of alignment. After all, aren’t you also being told to listen to your body and to prioritize what it tells you over what any teacher might say? We get that, but alignment isn’t here to try to put everyone into a little box, weed out the people whose bodies don’t fit the ‘ideal’, or scold people who make adjustments to make things work for them.
