911 Lone Star Countdown - Disasters Week Questions

Hello and thank you for including me @lonestar-s5countdown! This is a little trickier for me to answer tbh. I think 9-1-1 might stand to have longer-lasting consequences from their natural disasters (no need to skip past tsunami wreckage recovery or months-long rebuilding of the highway collapse, those would make some meaty dramatic narrative arcs), but otherwise it so far edges out Lone Star when it comes to order of experience (like, which state got which disaster first).

1) My favorite disaster… okay, gonna have to divvy btwn the 9-1-1s for this!

The plane crash in 9-1-1 (OG) would probably be my underrated favorite in terms of narrative developments for Buck, Bobby and Abby.

Season 4’s heat wave was more glossed over for plot setup, but I didn’t mind this natural disaster precisely because it was a little smaller in scale and because the plot setups (even the Iris arc tho that definitely needed fine tuning in hindsight) hooked me in already. (I also didn’t mind Brianna and Caleb in this one b/c this time Caleb’s situation was not his own fault.)

2) Since they’ve already done tornadoes (though, there’s always a chance they’ll do those again), a volcanic eruption, wildfires and a winter storm, I would think the only disasters LS hasn’t gotten down yet are freeway collapses, floods (barring how the cast would look while soaking wet, don’t ignore areas like Galveston, writers! There’s WAY more to the state than farmland, Dallas, Austin and El Paso yk! Let’s just say before I digress I kinda wish the showrunners were able to film in actual Texas), a border skirmish (just out of genuine interest— not getting any more political and no Owen’s refugee rescue doesn’t count) or droughts/ water shortages (no, heat waves also don’t count). I also just realized that the domestic terrorist arc could have waited for a later season too! O’Brien and Owen had chaotic good vibes much akin to him and Billy Tyson (if the three of them worked together tho? The 126 should probably move their whole firefighter team out of Travis County b/c they ain’t gonna go through the second-hand pain again).

3) They had and lost me at meteor/ asteroid, so I’m not sure I’d say looking forward to it. It all depends on execution, I suppose? (Sorry for the question mark, I’m just baffled since that usually needs film-length amount of time— I’ve seen the film Deep Impact. Scientific nitpicks aside the investigations, action and future implications in that film were well-paced enough.)

4) My top 3? Judd b/c he’s a great all-around leader whenever shit hits the fan— honest (sometimes to a fault but I can kinda relate), strong integrity and conscientiousness, and so dad-like even before he became a dad. Mateo b/c he’d be like the underrated badass youngest brother of any group— speaking as an only child tho. Third… boy, I can’t break this tie. It’s a draw between Tommy (she’s very composed and professional even during the times she isn’t) and Paul (I’d like to learn memorization-observational skills from him, and he fits the “cool Zen mode” temperament a little better than Carlos, don’t @ me).

5) This is painful… okay I’m so sorry. I don’t think I can answer this one as of now.

I went a little nuts making swanfire aesthetics for no reason. I hope you guys like

I had a random thought when I saw a post comparing MJR to Dylan O’Brien in American Assassin, and they look so similar! And if you’ve seen Britt Robertson in Life Unexpected you can tell she’d be a fantastic teen Emma.

It’s funny to think about, because back when Tallahassee first came out in 2012, Dylan and Britt would have been 21 and 22, so they would have been a more appropriate choice to portray teens.

Dylan Schmid and Abby Ross would have been way too young. JM and MJR were amazing in that episode and their chemistry was great but they were both in their mid 30s.

I know they wanted to have MJR in that episode so we recognized him from the pilot, plus they got away with Lana portraying her younger self in The Stable Boy. I just can’t help but think if they had gotten two young actors like Britt and Dylan to play teen Neal and Emma, we could have avoided all those anti posts that rage about the swanfire age difference (when MJR and JM were only two years apart and that wanted poster had a fake birthdate).

Anyway, I’m done venting. Here’s some comparisons

Calling all cat lovers! If you enjoy the company of cats and people who feel like a ray of sunshine on a cold winter’s day, you’ll love Ruth O’Brien. Ruth has been in the music industry for a long time; writing for BMA magazine, running social enterprise Upbeat CBR, mentoring musicians and of course, performing her own original songs. Ruth has played at some notable events such as the National Folk Festival and Australia Day. Through every performance, she brings such grace and joy to the stage and I can tell you that she’s just as lovely off stage too. Ruth finds musical influence from Australian artists such as Kate Miller-Heidke, Jen Cloher and Katie Noonan. She has tones of jazz, soul, pop, folk and classical music in her original songs and aims to write in a way that can connect people from all walks of life. Ruth recently released her 2nd EP ‘Songs for Abby’ which is a collection of tracks dedicated to her cats. This EP shows an intimate view into the relationship she has with her fur babies; the good, the bad and all the funny moments in between. Overall, it’s a refreshing, light-hearted EP which is gentle to listen to and has many stand-out moments. It shines a light on the mischievous things cats do and why we love them so much. The song ‘Love vs Hate’ is about her cat knocking objects off edges leading to smashed items on the floor. ‘She Is’ showcases how cats will wake you up at any time of the day/night without a care for the human body clock. ‘Allergic To You’ sounds like a dark and mysterious love song but it’s the story of Ruth bringing her cat home and learning the logistics of living with allergies. Every cat owner can relate that no matter how many crazy things a cat does, you love them all the same and that your life is truly better with them in it. Kevin and Sarah had a baby boy named Mick.

Mick and Megan announce to all the kids they’re getting married.

Bree calls to check on Luke in the hospital but he checked himself out.

The wedding will be at the B&B and Jess/David will cater it.

Connor and Margaret are fighting. She’s mad he took the Peck case against her wishes.

Bree asks Mick if he’s heard from Luke. She can’t get in contact with him.

Mick tells Abby he’s retiring and the business is all hers.

Mandrake comes by to say farewell to Abby. She offers him a job.

Kevin and Sarah bring the baby home with Mick and Megan.

Evan finally comes to talk to Abby. They talk about his biological father and the other men his mother dated over the years. He decides he should talk to John.

Evan and John meet up. They talk about Evan’s mom. They decide to rent some kayaks.

Margaret shows up at Connor’s apartment. She knows how to win the case. She found who framed Peck. They make up and kiss.

They bring the info to David.

David goes to kiss Jess and thanks her for being so supportive during everything. 

Jess wants to have a baby and so does David which is good because SHE’S PREGNANT!

Kevin is shirtless trying to decide which tie to wear and gets some input from Sarah.

Megan and Mick talk about the wedding on the phone then Mick talks to Evan about it.

Kevin and Connor are at the B&B getting things set up. Bree joins them with bad news about the harpist.

Nell sent a hairclip for Megan to wear. Megan forgot about the something old, something new, etc. stuff and is panicking.

Megan and Mick accidentally see each other at the house. They sit together on the swing and look out at the view. He gives Megan her old wedding band she’d given him when they divorced. He’d been holding onto it. They kiss.

Luke is waiting for Bree at her place. He came to say goodbye. He’s leaving. Bree is pissed. He doesn’t want to burden her but she wants to be with him. She tells him she loves him. It’s because he loves her that he has to go. She tells him to at least go to the wedding for Mick’s sake. He says he can’t and leaves. Bree cries.

Mick is getting dressed and the boys tease him about the wedding night.

Time for the wedding! Megan and the girls are emotional. 

Luke shows up to the ceremony.

Series producer Dan Paulson is the officiant. 

Bree and Luke talk at the reception. He doesn’t trust when things are going good but she makes him want to trust. He wants to try. They kiss.

Evan takes Abby into a house. It’s his house. They go to sit outside. Jazz music starts playing. He talks about how much he loves all the O’Briens but especially her. He proposes. She says yes and they kiss. He bought the house for them and the girls and there’s space for Mandrake too.

Everyone gathers around the fire pit. They’re teasing each other and being sweet. Lots of talk of being in the moment and being together.

Abby announces her engagement. Evan thanks the family.

Jess reveals she’s pregnant.

- neal mcdonough’s sergeant o’brien from red vs blue is being bumped to recurring so….guess we’ll see more of him and owen’s little feud, potentially also more of him as a presence in contrast to carlos?

- two new recurring cast members, which actually gives us something:

d.b woodside will “portray Trevor, a wholesome, handsome, charismatic, father and preacher. His new job has brought him and his daughter to Texas, but their new city greets them with a rare and dangerous storm”
