I do think that part of the reason that The Dreamer Trilogy is Like That is because the premise is inherently flawed in that The Raven Cycle was originally magical realism, a genre that doesn't rely on explanations for magic and magic systems and actually coasts on them being unexplainable, whereas The Dreamer Trilogy had to expand the world beyond Henrietta and start explaining things, which makes the whole premise begin to fall apart.

no because ronan and declan and matthew showed up to church every sunday. no matter what, they were all there. just to sit together. even when the night before they had literally thrown punches. even when the last thing they wanted was to act civil in a holy environment. even when declan had to drive 2 hours just so he could sit in the same church his father did with his two brothers. because that's what it means to have a sibling.

the lynch brother’s relationship to one another is complicated and made increasingly complicated as they all mature. but at the end of the day declan is the only other person who tells stories just like niall. who knows to say “are you going to be quiet” to get ronan to listen. having a sibling is being known by default. it’s growing up together. it’s adopting your father’s “jesus mary joseph” but adding “fuck” at the end just to make it yours. it’s wanting to both punch your brothers in the face but also wanting to blow up the whole world if either of them is in any danger. it’s sharing a name and a face and a father. and it’s also not being able to share a home or a life for a while. it’s growing up together and growing apart and then growing back into one another.

because sometimes having a sibling just means being able to say:

In between takes at the studio, Niall went over his lines again, as they kept escaping his memory. Although he was not the lead in this film, he still wanted to do good, but he could not stop thinking about what his son had told him in the morning and what that could mean.

Meanwhile, Franklin, whose wedding to the famous Laura Nielsen had immensely boosted his career, had been cast in the leading role for the first time. Seeing his co-star clearly in distress worried him, both personally and for the good of the picture. They may have been lovers in the past, but most importantly, they had been friends throughout their careers, and that had not changed. So, he made sure to be there for Niall in whatever situation he was in now.

Hearing that the issue on Niall's mind was about his son, first made Franklin slightly regret that he had offered his help. He did not really care or know anything about children, but as it turned out, the issue was much closer to his knowledge after all. It did not surprise him that his friend worried so much about just the possibility of Louis liking boys. It was hard enough to hide their preferences from the public, but Niall had always especially struggled with it. Clearly he needed someone with the same experience to help him in this situation, and Franklin was his best bet.

Franklin: "Huh."

Niall: "I'm worried he's... you know."

Franklin: "Do I?"

Franklin: "I see. Are you blaming yourself?"

Franklin: "You know it's not exactly inheritable, right?"
