Ok, I need to get some feedback on this idea I had driving down the road and voice to texted it into my notes app

Tyler Owens, YouTube star, has decided he is done risking his life for the chase (pretend that’s not out of character) and Boone tells him he needs to try singing. So he gives it a shot as a country music singer. And he blows up between his voice and song writing abilities.

June Maria was a country music legacy, the daughter of Brad Paisley, and had been in the business since she was 19. She has always had a passion for country music, I mean who wouldn’t after growing up with some of the biggest names in country music.

The two of them meet at the CMA awards. She had heard about the newest breakout artist who used to be a YouTubing tornado hunter. And of course he knew about one of the biggest female names in country music. When they meet they hit it off immediately. They would start off as friends, despite what their fans say, become more than friends. Some angst happens because of course.

Bonus they write songs about each other, everyone knows it about the other but they will never say. They ,kinda, call the other out at their concerts and the fans eat it up.

Since I am a people pleaser I need to know how others feel before I move forward with this.

from your experience, do you think fully indoor enclosures (the Georgia Aquarium or SeaWorld Abu Dhabi, for example) are worse welfare-wise for cetaceans and pinnipeds than outdoor ones? they would definitely be advantageous in places where severe weather is a concern, but I feel like they should be out in the fresh air. i don’t want to make a judgment call if that’s not the case though cuz I’ve always wondered about this but don’t know enough about marine mammals to answer. thanks :)

So this is a really great question, and actually one I’ve been wondering about myself recently. From what I can tell, there hasn’t been a lot of formal research into the pros and cons of completely indoor versus completely outdoor habitats for marine mammals. My “gut” response is to agree with you that, yes, exposure to fresh air and sunlight is preferable whenever possible. Never underestimate the important of sunlight!

However, there are environments where indoor housing is more appropriate, namely urban settings. Aquariums like Georgia, Shedd, and National are literally downtown in Atlanta, Chicago, and Baltimore respectively—major cities. While this is an optimal location for reaching the highest number of people, it also means air quality is poor, and we know how sensitive marine mammals are to respiratory pollutants. In these cases, indoor habitats are probably the wiser option, and it seems to have served them well. In the 12 years since Georgia Aquarium opened its bottlenose exihibit, they have only lost one dolphin (to acute pneumonia), despite maintaining a pod of a dozen or so. Obviously, there are a whole host of factors that go into health and survival rates (Georgia does not permit its dolphins to breed, for one, which eliminates juvenile mortalities), but I don't think it's unfair to assume there would probably be a lot more respiratory problems in their pod if the dolphins lived outside in downtown Atlanta.

Another major factor that has only recently been recognized is regional microbiomes. This is one of the more viable theories as to what caused the short-lived dolphinarium Dolphinaris Arizona to tragically lose half of its dolphins over the course of a year and a half. Most of their dolphins were born either at SeaWorld Orlando or Dolphin Quest's Hawai'i locations—tropical climates, especially when compared to the arid desert climate of the greater Phoenix area. In Arizona, the dolphins encountered a new set of pathogens quite different from what they were acclimated to, and it is thought this contributed to at least a few of the deaths (one of them died of neurological disease for unrelated reasons).

Dolphinaris Arizona was a modern facility, with both indoor and outdoor habitats, and inspections revealed no issues with the animals’ care. It might’ve been horrible luck, similar to what CMA is experiencing right now. But I can’t help but wonder if all-indoor facilities might’ve prevented all this heartbreak.

The brand-new SeaWorld Abu Dhabi is now home to twenty-four dolphins—all from US SeaWorld Parks, which are found in humid subtropical to temperate coastal desert climates. Abu Dhabi, like Arizona, is in an arid desert climate. However, as you mentioned, the new facility is entirely indoors, which hopefully will aid in protecting the animals from both the unfamiliar desert pathogens and pollutants of the city. Reassuringly, the dolphin habitat is surrounded by large windows to allow ample exposure to natural sunlight. Since arriving in the fall of last year, all the dolphins have so far been doing well!

(I’m really excited about this habitat. It’s quite large and features depth variation, rockwork, a rain simulator, and live fish. I’ve also seen waves in some of the park walkthrough videos I’ve watched, although I’m unsure if this is from an actual wave machine or just the changes in depth combined with the animals’ movements).

@country-wannabe was originally a Shelbert blog. She hasn't posted anything since mid 2021. She goes back to 2014, which of course, everything between then and 20 July 2015 is about them. I will just say she did not come over the to the Darkside (Shefani world) with great acceptance, as she felt her blog was about Blake. Eventually she was assimilated. But what is interesting, is that there is an archive that shows the emotions, falsehoods, truths, some hate, etc about BS and ML's divorce from just before it happened through to, not sure. This is stuff I don't have in my archive, and the only way to get it there is to repost her stuff.

There will be more spam, for the rest of 2015, I am sure November will be very interesting, to read. Blake and Gwen flew to attend the CMAs on 4 Nov. Gwen was only backstage. Unfortunately, her, or his, or both (have heard conflicting reports) that based on the fact the paps had caught them being very cozy with each other at Halloween parties (day of and next) the publicists decided to announce to the world that Blake and Gwen were officially dating due to the paps finding out that Gwen was with Blake on the plane. Unfortunately, the announcement apparently came out while ML was on the red carpet. MLs fans, when they found out about the timing went ballistic, accusing Blake and Gwen of trying to diminish ML.

The hate was there before, but, when this happened, it basically exploded from some of the hardcore ML Fans. We here started referring to these off the wall people as ranfans to differentiate them from the sane fans of ML. From then on, we saw a lot of unsubstantiated hate from these people. Some were absolutely psycho. There are still a few on twitter and some show up in mine and PWC's blog to screw with us.

Gwen, and Blake denied that they told their publicists to release the information.

Integrating hobbies and entertainment into your routine is essential for a well-rounded and fulfilling lifestyle.

Struggling with student life? Need support academically? Mentally? In my four years at McMaster, the one thing I wish I utilized more was the amazing resources that McMaster has to offer. I know you probably see these resources posted all the time around Mac but I highly suggest you take advantage of the resources that will best support you! Some upcoming programs include:

3. Keep Organized

Assignments, tests, quizzes, essays, oh my! When midterm season rolls around, if you find that you struggle with keeping mental tabs of what and when something is due, look towards organization tools to help out. There are lots of different ways to stay on track with due dates so don’t worry, we’re here to help. Here are a few organizational suggestions to never miss a due date ever again:

Notion -  An application that allows you to create your own personal webpage where you can input anything ranging from links to course readings or calendars with assignment due dates. Check out this YouTube video that links you to aesthetic templates and how to utilize Notion!

Phone Calendar - For the minimalistic approach, simply input when a specific assignment is due and set an alert for a set amount of time. This alert will go off, reminding you that this assignment is due soon and you should start working on it!

Daily/Weekly/Monthly To Do Lists - Having one or all three will keep you on your feet and ahead of those pesky due dates. Look at stationery stores that may have specific to-do list calendars in stock or print out a free version of one you like and decorate it yourself. 

Affirmation Board - A cute board or reminder that keeps you motivated will encourage productivity and promote being nice to yourself during stressful times. 

4. Connect with your Faculty

Introducing yourself and getting to know your professors, Teaching Assistants, and fellow classmates is a great way to develop a sense of community and open new doors. While it may seem nerve-wracking, developing a professional relationship with faculty and friends in your programs will help you in the long run– or at the very least, the entirety of the course. Additionally, when you head into a new class– whether it be next semester or next school year– and you’re able to recognize someone’s friendly face, it will always ease your nerves because you have an already established relationship with that individual. 

5. Attend CMAS Events 

Come out to our CMAS events! At CMAS, we love to encourage those in Communications, Media Arts, or Humanities to come out, socialise, and create bonds with your fellow Hum students (not to mention the awesome CMAS team that will be there to support you!). This is a great opportunity to meet new people, strengthen friendships, and develop connections. Keep an eye on our Instagram (@cmasmcmaster) for upcoming events! We have an event coming up in late October and we hope that we’ll see lots of you there as a way to decompress after midterms.

NINE INCH NAILS' TRENT REZNOR, ATTICUS ROSS WIN COUNTRY MUSIC AWARD FOR "OLD TOWN ROAD"

Nine Inch Nails' Atticus Ross and Trent Reznor

Without even trying, Trent Reznor and his musical colleague Atticus Ross managed to win a Country Music Association Award today for their production on the sample from Nine Inch Nails' "34 Ghosts IV" (found on the Ghosts I-IV collection) that wound up in the hit remix of Lil Nas X's juggernaut "Old Town Road." The 53rd annual ceremony is set to air tonight, November 13th, but many winners were announced earlier today on Good Morning America, including Reznor and Ross.

The sample was originally unauthorized and took Reznor by suprise. He recently spoke to Rolling Stone at length about its inclusion in the massive radio hit. "The reason I haven't stepped in to comment anything about it is, I don't feel it's my place to play any kind of social critic to that," he explained. "It was a material that was used in a significant way and it turned into something that became something else, and those guys should be the ones the spotlight is on."

Proper licensing procedures were ultimately followed, and Reznor allowed the sample to remain in the infectious tune, which quickly took on a life of its own. According to the NIN bandleader, he was even asked to make an appearance in the short film–style music video featuring Billy Ray Cyrus and, of course, Lil Nas X himself in something of a western fever dream. 

"They asked if I wanted to do a cameo in the video," Reznor recalled, "and it was flattering, and I don't mean to be disrespectful, but I don't feel like it's my place to shine a light on me for that. I say that with complete respect." 

Despite the industrial-music titan's absence, the video has racked up more than 383 million views so far and, along with the song itself, made Lil Nax X the breakout star of the year. Watch it below if you've somehow escaped its gravitational vortex, and listen to Nine Inch Nails' original track, as well, to hear the key sample that lends a sparse but vital component of 2019's biggest song.

Asphalt surfacing is a mixture of aggregates, binder and filler, used for constructing and maintaining roads, parking areas, railway tracks, ports, airport runways, bicycle lanes, sidewalks and also play- and sport areas.

Aggregates used for asphalt mixtures could be crushed rock, sand, gravel or slags. Nowadays, certain waste and by-products, such as construction and demolition debris, are being used as aggregates, which increases the sustainability of asphalt.

In order to bind the aggregates into a cohesive mixture a binder is used. Most commonly, bitumen is used as a binder, although nowadays, a series of bio-based binders are also under development with the aim of minimising the environmental impact of the roads.

Asphalt Surfacing / Road Construction Process

What is Asphalt concrete?

Asphalt concrete, also referred to as black cementing agent has been used for road construction for centuries. Asphalt is a combination of aggregates, binder, and filler, used for constructing and maintaining roads.

Aggregates used in asphalt mixture can be crushed rock, sand, gravel, or slags. In present times, to increase the sustainability of the asphalt, certain waste and by-products are used, such as materials resulting from the alteration, construction, destruction, rehabilitation, or repair of any manmade physical structure includes houses, buildings, industrial or commercial facilities, and roadways. To bind or put together aggregates into a cohesive mixture a binder is used. Bitumen is used as a binder.

What is Bitumen?

Bitumen is the liquid binder that holds asphalt together and is produced from petroleum. Bitumen is produced through the distillation of crude oil that is recognized for its waterproofing and adhesive properties. This process removes lighter crude oil components, such as gasoline and diesel, leaving the “heavier” bitumen behind. Although nowadays, to minimize the environmental impact of the roads, bio-based binders are also under development.

Asphalt Surfacing Mixture

Asphalt surfacing is a mixture of 2 primary ingredients:

1) Aggregates

2) Asphalt binder

The aggregates have around 95% of the total mixture by weight. Aggregates are mixed with 5% of asphalt binder to produce asphalt pavement. The aggregates and asphalt are heated to an appropriate temperature and mixed in a processing plant capable of producing specified materials. Asphalt pavement is transported by truck to the paving site, it is then spread to a uniform thickness with a paving or finishing machine.

The material is then compacted to the required degree by heavy, self-propelled rollers, producing a smooth pavement course. Depending on the factors such as ambient conditions, to achieve adequate density, care is been taken that mix temperature does not fall below optimum compaction temperature while the material is compacted.

Asphalt Surfacing Laying Temperature Classification

1) Hot mix asphalt

2) Warm mix asphalt

3) Half-warm mix asphalt

4) cold mix asphalt

Hot mix asphalt (HMA) has a laying temperature above 150˚C, it is one of the traditional paving methods used. Warm mix asphalt (WMA) has a lower temperature compared to hot mix asphalt, between 110˚C to 140˚C. The third concept is half-warm mix asphalt (HWMA), it has a lower temperature compared to HMA and WMA, i.e., below 100˚C. While Cold mix asphalt (CMA) is least suitable for paving, having a paving temperature below 60˚C, also cold mix asphalt is the most environment-friendly among all, but due to lack of performance, it is not used as paving temperature.

Anciently, HMA was the most preferred asphalt surfacing temperature but in recent years development, WMA has been performing very close to that of HMA. WMA has a 30% lower production temperature compared to HMA. WMA has advantages such as less power consumption, better performance, decrease emission and lower fuel consumption. Benefits are also seen on-site due to a reduction in emission leading to keep better health of people working on sites. WMA can be used in strictly air polluted areas as well as the site of paving can be opened earlier due to less time for cooling asphalt surfacing so that transportation can easily access it again. HWMA and WMA consume less energy i.e., 50% and 10to30%.

Asphalt Surfacing Process

It consists of the 5 layers mentioned below (From bottom to top)

1) Sub-Grade (150-300mm)

The subgrade is a layer of natural soil prepared to receive the layers of the pavement and is a base of all the payment layers. All the stress of the above pavement layers is transferred to Sub-grade. Hence, it is essential to ensure that the sub-grade is not overstressed. The subgrade should be strong enough to take up the stresses Imposed due to loads without shear failure or excessive deformation.

2) Sub-base (100-300mm)

It is the layer of the material between the Sub-Grade course and Base-Course. The sub-base is also known as soling. The primary functions of the sub-base are to provide structural support, improve drainage, and reduce the intrusion of fines from the sub-grade in the pavement structure. This course provides a medium to spread the wheel loads to the subgrade. In the case of the base course, the course is open-graded or has a large air void, the sub-base course with more fine material can be utilized as filler between sub-grade and the base course. The course usually consists of broken stones, bricks, or aggregates. As the stresses in a sub-base are much lower than those in the base, the material used is inferior to those in the base course. A sub-base course is not mandatory needed or used.

3) Asphalt Surfacing base Course (100-300mm)

The base course layer is above the sub-base layer and immediately beneath the surface of the binder course. The base course is considered an important structural layer of the pavement, it is planned to effectively distribute traffic and environmental loading that underlying unbound layers are not exposed to excessive stresses and strains. The base course also provides additional load distribution and contribution to the sub-surface drainage. Crushed stone, crushed slag, emulsified asphalt, and other untreated or stabilized material are used for the base course.
