im honestly still just as wary about the next season of the witcher even after the table read -
because it was never about liam's acting skills.
do i think henry cavill was a spectacular match for geralt?
yeah. but not only because of his looks or his acting: he GOT geralt and the witcher in general. he's a massive nerd who knows the franchise like he wrote it himself and was a big reason (not the sole, but a big one) that the show kept on track and was even somewhat faithful to the original material.
but i don't believe cavill did a regé jean-page and like. left to seek stardom or whatever. this was a passion project too for him, you could tell.
no, I'm wary of the future of witcher because of the higher ups involved.
so what DID the people who disagreed so hard with him he quit the project do? well, they needed a 7000 word letter from joey batey and the fanbase pleading just to allow jaskier to be queer like he (pretty much) canonically is. didn't need incentive from anyone to create fake gay motives for the worse villain of the story, though. didn't need incentive to completely ruin one of the most beloved characters of the franchise, or let his actor get harassed on socials after the swap without ever saying shit.
i do not trust that these people, who have proven callous, arrogant and ignorant about both the source material and the opinions of the fanbase (and have made some choices nearing bigotry) and who disagreed so heavily with the actor who knew the source material best are capable of producing a good season 4. liam or no liam. am i hoping he's a good geralt? yes, the series and other actors don't deserve to have their performance harmed by him. can it be as good as the seasons cavill was in? for the reasons cited above: fuck no.

I don't think I can say this too often, so I'm saying it again.
Treat. Actors. As. Fucking. People.
Are you mad at something the character did? Cool. Be mad at that character. Be mad at the writers. But do not. DO NOT. Come after that actor in their real life.
(Or the writers, really, but that's a whole other thing).
It is their JOB. They are NOT THEIR CHARACTERS. Could they share traits? Sure. But it is THEIR JOB, it is not WHO THEY ARE.
I say this as someone who has lived through many a brutal fandom rager, and I am begging y'all to be better.

I think as a society we do not talk about that time Dev Patel just broke up a knife fight in Adelaide. What a legend of a man.

I finally watched Good Omens 2 and...idk it was okay I guess? Definitely not as good as S1. It lacked a bit of direction, it was very easy to forget that supposedly something bad was coming. Yes, it's important to keep Gabriel hidden, but Heaven and Hell are so incompetent and don't do anything for most of the season that you don't really get any urgency or sense of danger. I can forgive that to an extend because they clearly wanted to focus more on Aziraphael and Crowley's relationship, although most of that was given to us through flashbacks. Aside from that their dynamic didn't change that much before the end.
The other thing is the...I don't know if you could call it plot...more like "issue" of the two shop keepers love life. This is where you can notice most clearly that the characterization for anyone not Aziraphael or Crowley isn't as strong as in the first season. We have a way smaller cast and I still feel like I don't know most of them. The woman from the record shop is kinda clumsy, has a cottage core vibe and a crush on the cafe owner, but that's it. I don't know anything about her motivations, family, fears (she has them, but I don't know what they are or why she's so anxious), what she does outside of being in love and a shop owner. Same for the coffee shop woman. She owns a cafe, likes coffee (I think?) and has a controlling partner. She doesn't even make any major decisions, things just happen to her and she rolls with it. Her partner breaks up with her, ensuring that she doesn't have to cheat (oh no that would be conflict) and then she just gets strung along by Crowley and record woman.
There's the issue of Aziraphael and Crowley having to make them fall in love because of their miracle, but...why is that so important on a personal level? Record woman has a crush on the other, but why should they be together? What makes them so perfect for each other? How would coffee woman know record woman won't be just as controlling as her ex? Since I barely know anything about them, I can't really answer that aside from aesthetics I guess. They gesture at the end at these problems, but that's it. Clearly they're just supposed to be blander Aziraphael and Crowley. Speaking of, after thousands of years, all it took was for those two to tell Crowley to have an open conversation with Aziraphael and suddenly he gets the idea to take their relationship in a new direction?
I liked where Aziraphael and Crowley's relationship ended up and the kiss was better than I expected (since they're canonically ace I was a bit worried about where they were taking them, but it was alright, a heat of the moment/frustration thing), but for most of the season it felt like treading water. Not much was happening before the final episode and some comments from other characters about their relationship felt kinda forced. Like when Aziraphael and Crowley argue on the street and cafe woman comments to Crowley about his boyfriend/lover/spouse etc. They do give off that vibe sometimes, but not in that scene. They just had a pretty normal argument. "oh you clearly are in a relationship"...no? Not from what she has seen so far. There are scenes in the bookshop for example that fit much better, but a regular conversation is just not it.
Gabriel and Beelzebub's relationship was also weird. I picked up the vibes in S1 and was actually curious to see what they would do with it. The result was a bit...meh. I like the outcome in theory, but giving us the entire development of their deeper relationship in what is essentially an info dumb? Very weird. There was no real breathing room or space for working out the decade-long tension before they were making heart eyes at each other and willing to throw everything away to be together. I did like the little gestures of passing the fly between them. That was cute and I honestly much prefer this over a kiss or other blatant shows of affection.
Overall, you can very clearly feel that they were just waiting to get the green light for another season.
