the "it was nothing" "it was everything" scene is a basic one to answer for me obviously, so I'll tour to Sunbeam's antics in Thunder when Finchlight, Myrtlebloom and Sparkpelt are being so kind and supportive to her. She's got a real family and a girlfriend or two now and they Do care about her. Additional moment to mention Sunbeam mentoring Moonpaw. Sunny-B deserves all the positive moments in the world

I'll be controversial and say I don't want FrostWhistle to be canon, or at least not in a really romantic way. I adore thel being close and have drawn them a lot, but partly because I'm projecting HARD on Frost and Whistle and also because Frost being aro is very dear to my heart, I kindof always did see them as really just Good Friends. They care for each other and trust each other so much and would do everything for the other, but it's not romantic. They love each other until the end of times in my mind, but not in a romantic way. It's more of a QPR technically, but yeah. Friends. I love platonic devotion <3

I will also announce that Flutterfoot and Appleshine have a kinda same-ish thing going on. No romo, all platonic. Yes even the kits (that they shouldn't have had NOW, it is Way Too Early For Them To Have Kits!!!!!!!!!!! (Except in the idea I Just Had that they found the kittens and adopted them. I consider adopted kits as full family when it comes to my tree nonsense, but this would make them being parents so young (both of them are barely two years old) slightly less painful to me)). Anyways, AppleFlutter. I called it before the books did, but my version is better.

As for a ship I really want. Moonpaw x Moonpool for the joke answer. Fanon Moon ended up being so much more interesting than whatever the fuck the erins are hallucinating with their newest plot. Make Moonpaw have a weird bond to the holy place! She's Leafpool's great-grandkid (on both sides </3), let her do like great granny and be important to that body of water!

Anyways, for a serious answer I'll go with SunFinch. I am an avid truther that Sunbeam should've ditched Nightheart once he bailed in Thunder. I know StarClan Said So, but Sunny should've realized while he was gone he never liked Night, but the attention she got from him in a time when her close relationships in ShadowClan were getting complicated.

Berryheart, Sparrowtail and Hollowspring were getting more radicalized, Spireclaw was busy with Fringewhisker, she just had That Thing with Blazefire and Lightleap and while she's okay with the other young ShadowClanners,. she's not as close to thel as she was with her brothers or Light and Blaze and she missed that connection and In Comes Nightheart, declaring his love for her and only her (right after a messy "breakup" with Blaze (and Light)), which made her felt desired again and she played into it because it felt nice.

Then Nightheart intentionally failed his challenge to return to ThunderClan and Sunbeam was heartbroken, but still didn't feel like she had a place in ShadowClan at the moment and ran back into the fake but comforting affection Nightheart had developed for her (also imo, they work nicely as buddies. She and Night in Shadow without the romance would've worked well. They played off of each other in a neat way), but then Nightheart left her again on his Special Mission and she had to rebuild from zero now. She couldn't just return to ShadowClan, that would've been too shameful, especially with Berryheart, so she had to stay. She had no connection to anyone else aside from being Spark and Finch' in-law now and yet it is in that same clan she managed to build a life for herself and be the truest version of herself with cats who love her and care for her.

She and Finch could then really hit off and Sun could for the first time really fall for someone and realize what she felt for Night and Blaze wasn't really love, but a craving for longing and attention and she could really begin a romance with someone who sees her for who she is and doesn't use her as a prop.

Anyways, I have gotten very attached to Sunbeam (or the idea of her I have in my head) over the course of ASC dropping and I just feel like she could've had a very neat and simple (compared to Frostdawn at least) narrative going on

Cats 1998 Anniversary Celebration

Day Two: Favorite Character

it should be of absolutely NO surprise to anyone that Tumble is my favorite 1998 character (and cats character ofc).

but it should also be no surprise that Amunet is on that list of favorites, so for today, I wanted to write the scenario of Tumblebrutus and Amunet interacting after he and Pouncival are adopted by the trio of Asparamulorum!

Amunet woke up in the middle of the night to the sound of scurrying paws across the floor of the den. While just a few months ago, the sound would have made her shoot up with uncertain fear, she was comforted, knowing that the sound was nothing more than sleepless kittens bustling about.

Sandwiched in between her mates, Amunet slowly removed herself from the comforting warmth of their embrace, pressing loving kisses to Asparagus and Jellylorum's cheeks.

Jellylorum shifted as well, opening a sleepy eye to look at her mate. "What's going on, 'Net?"

"Kittens, habibi." Amunet replied softly. "I'll check on them. Be back before you know it."

The other queen gave her an adoring smile, and curled back up, leaving a perfect space for Amunet to return to between her mates.

The Abyssinian queen quietly made her way towards the main area of the den, and she paused upon seeing what she found.

Tumblebrutus sat in front of the doorway, his little patched frame slouching with exhaustion, but head stubbornly lifted. As Amunet's paws hit the floor, his ears twitched, and he whirled around, eyes wide.

There was a moment of silence between the two cats.

"I didn't mean to wake anyone up." Tumblebrutus finally said, voice filled with nervousness.

Amunet gave him a gentle smile. "I'm a light sleeper, little one." She made her way over to the pile of squishy pillows and blankets, and curled up, beckoning the little tom towards her. "Why are you awake?"

Hesitantly, Tumblebrutus approached her. "I'm used to keeping an eye on things while Pounce sleeps." He sat down, a few inches away from Amunet.

"You've done a brilliant job taking care of your brother, Tumblebrutus." Amunet praised, a glimmer of amusement lighting within her at the way he puffed up in pride.

"I had to. He's little, and since 'Lonzo left, it was up to me." he replied.

Amunet slowly reached out, placing her paw on Tumblebrutus' head, and running her fingers through his fur. She recalled the first time she had met the little patched tom and his brother. They had been so small, barely older than newborns, but Amunet had felt the warmth and protectiveness they felt towards each other.

Tumblebrutus' eyes were drifting close, and a quiet purr was escaping him.

Amunet knew simply telling him that he and his brothers were safe would not dissuade the habit of watching out for danger.

So she did the next best thing.

"How about we keep a look out together?" Amunet suggested, scooting slightly closer to Tumblebrutus. He looked at her with surprise, as though he had expected her to tell him to go back to bed.

"O...kay..." he said slowly.

Amunet began to hum, drawing Tumblebrutus closer to her side as she felt him relax. He cautiously snuggled into her side, smothering a yawn with all the pride and determination a little tom kitten could, bravely attempting to keep his eyes open.

She kept humming and grooming him, smiling as his battle against sleep was slowly lost.

When Asparagus and Jellylorum awoke in the morning to find Amunet's spot in their bed cold, they both shot up, racing towards the main area of their den, only to stop immediately with matching wide smiles on their faces.

Tumblebrutus, as he had fallen asleep, had tucked himself between Amunet's paws, nearly completely hidden against her patterned fur. Amunet had curled around the little tom, her nose pressed against his cheek, as though she had fallen asleep nuzzling him.

Jellylorum cooed, and Asparagus looked at the two with unadulterated love in his eyes.

Their newest additions to their family would fit in just fine.

You can send in pictures of your cat if you like and I will tell you what they appear to be. It is helpful to include some history on the acquisition of your cat. I will answer genetics oriented questions to the best of my ability, I have a working understanding of cat genetics but for more complicated or in-depth questions regarding genotype I recommend asking @amber-tortoiseshell. I’m most confident with my expertise on phenotype (appearance) and cat breeds.

My foster mom calls me Baby Girl when she takes care of me so I just told her to add it to the front of my name.  I purr inside and outside when I am referred to with this sweet nothing.

Please don’t even ask my history for I don’t even want to remember it.  I am just thankful that this nice group of humans noticed me languishing in that awful crowded place and got me out of there.   I know that it took lots of patience to give me my space and time to come around again.   I don’t have my front claws so I was defensive and mouthy.    And I itched and chewed the fur on my back.   Boy did she take care of me.   That nice doctor lady found out I am allergic to lots of things so I am on a simple food.

So you know, I don’t want other cats or dogs in my space…yes I tried with the furry roommate but without my claws to defend myself….I am always going to want to get them first before they get me.

What home would I like?  A nice quiet single human whose lap I can sit on when I choose.   Someone who will understand my signals and know when I don’t want anymore touching.  A home that doesn’t have the breeze from outside coming in that will just make me itch.

What do you say???

Hm, I feel that that's a very mixed can of worms, really.

I think that continuing breeding on animals with genetic drawbacks for the sake of Aesthetics is very wrong, and that certain breeds exist that simply shouldn't. There is no excuse bringing animals into the world who are virtually guaranteed to suffer.

That said, responsible breeding is a good thing! It results in healthy animals, and the very existence of breeds means it's easier to find a pet where "the content will match what's on the box". If you want a certain kind of dog, you can, for the most part, read up on different breeds and find out whether they're really a good match for you. Same with cats - there's a reason most of the cats I've owned have been from certain breeds (abyssinian, somali, bengal, ocicat etc). Of course you may find an energetic, highly intelligent, social and talkative cat born from any street litter, too, but the point is you don't know.

In my country, dogs and cats aren't sold in pet stores, so the only place you'll get one is either random people breeding their own pets, adopting from a shelter, or buying from responsible breeders. And I prefer the latter, simply because you will get an animal whose whole backstory you know, and whose traits you can match with the home and life (and other pets!) you have to offer.

I 100% encourage adoption from shelters, where possible! But I've also seen some really weird takes on here, about the evils of pedigree breeds existing at all, that very much rub me the wrong way. The existence of healthy, standardized breeds isn't the problem. People getting pets that they abuse or later abandon is.

So just. You know. If you want to get a pet, make sure you know what you're in for and be responsible about it? Then whether you decide on a $5 barn kitten or a $1000 show bengal, that's really up to you. The most important thing is to kiss its little head lots and give it tons of love throughout its whole life. ♥

you've made a good case that "adopt don't shop" is an oversimplification that doesn't take into account the very real temperament pitfalls in dog breed combos one might encounter in a shelter dog. do you think the same goes for cats as well, or is there not enough overall difference between cat breeds for it to make enough of a difference?

I really know much less about cat breeds than dog breeds and have only ever had shelter mutt kitties! However i know @yeahshedo has kitties from a breeder for the same reasons one would get a dog from a breeder and has explained it to me quite convincingly. Tbh in the future when we have ... significantly Less Cats I might look into getting an abyssinian bc of the personality and fur type. So I think... Yes some of it is translatable but to a degree that is less like... urgent lmao ... A cat isnt ever going to be 50lbs and have the bite force of a juvenile alligator for example so the stakes are a little lower

I love Disney cats and honestly, it's interesting how their representation has changed over time (for the better in my opinion).

Cats went from being villains to sort of......whatever Ches was...to representations like in Big Hero 6.

Anywho I won't blabber on and on about that I just find it interesting! I would literally adopt all of these cats! Sweet little Figaro!!! Oliver eating his nom noms!!!! XD

Lucifer would be my rough and tumble mouser as would Thomas, I suspect....They would compete over who could catch the most mice. (poor mice..... :( )

Duchess, Toulouse (who I just know would help me with my paintings), Marie, and Berlioz would all be my ensemble of artistic cats that would help around the house with "Dusting", "Music Playing", "Kitten Tango (the leaping zoomies)". Well maybe Duchess would be the regal kitty sitting in the window watching the pedestrians with interest.

Ches would be the cat that appears out of nowhere in between your legs to trip you. Lol

I think Levi would be very unhappy with this arrangement.... Fortunately, they're all on our streaming service so..... He just has to worry about the three. Lol

Her long body and head shape make me think she could have some *abyssinian heritage.

Chrissy was one of 3 siblings at the shelter (three's company). Unfortunately none were adopted together. Jack was adopted first, someone got Janet before me and I got the leggy "blonde" one of the bunch, Chrissy.

Warriors Rewrite Pt 0: Allegiances

So! Some of you may know Ive started rereading the first arc of warriors. As a result, I've been inspired to come up with my own version of a rewrite. I'm gonna make about 7+ posts of notes about things I'd change throughout the entirety of The Prophecies Begin.

To start off, let's talk about our cast

Leader: Bluestar (Apprentice: Sandpaw)

Blue-gray she-cat with a darker face, tail, and legs, and blue eyes. Basically she's a blue Burmese

She teaches Sandpaw instead of Firepaw because then it'd make sense when Graypaw says Bluestar only trains the deputy's kits. Not to mention I think Bluestar would be good at taming Sandpaw's attitude

Like in canon she gave up her kits. The way it happened was a bit different though. To look more convincing, Bluefur had Oakheart scratch her shoulder to make it look like she'd gone to fight the fox for her kits. Bringing home one of her kits half frozen made her story more believable

Deputy: Redtail (Apprentice: Dustpaw)

Small, mostly black tortoishell tom with a plumy dark ginger tail and green eyes

He lives! Or at least longer than he's supposed to. Probably til up about the time Lionheart dies in canon

He's mates with Runningwind. Sandpaw is their adopted daughter (we need more adoption positivity, plus her having no relation to the clan makes for a cleaner bloodline)

Medicine cat: Spottedleaf

Beautiful spotted torbie she-cat with a white chest, underbelly, and paws and amber eyes

She's not having a love affair with Firepaw/Fireheart in this. Also she's going to live slightly longer cause even tho Im not a fan of hers I want to change that

Warriors:

Lionheart (Apprentice: Graypaw)

Large longhaired golden tabby tom with a broad head, broad shoulders and amber eyes

Instead of dying during the raid Shadowclan leads on Thunderclan camp, he dies when the clan goes to chase out Brokenstar

Tigerclaw

Broad shouldered dark brown tabby tom with a scar across his muzzle and amber eyes

Whitestorm

White tom with a plumy blue-gray tail and yellow eyes

Bluestar raised him alongside Mosskit. So he sees her as his mom figure. He even calls her mom. He still loves Snowfur and sees her as his mother, but Bluestar was there for more of his life so he sees her as a mother too

Following that point, he sees Mosscloud as his sister. He also kind of sees Tigerclaw as a brother but doesn't have as strong of a bond with him as he does with Mosscloud

Mosscloud (Apprentice: Ravenpaw)

White she-cat with lilac patches and blue eyes

It's Mosskit!! She survived

Let me explain how: Bluefur snuck her kits out to bring to Riverclan (as she did in canon). But when she noticed Mosskit was falling behind and growing weak she panicked. She realized her daughter wasn't strong enough to make the journey, not like her littermates. So Bluefur tucked them away under a warm tree root and fetched Oakheart. Oakheart took Mistykit and Stonekit with him, and Bluefur carried Mosskit back to camp. It made her fox kitnapping story more believeable

Mosscloud doesn't really remember what happened that night anyways. If asked she'll say she remembers being cold and out of camp in the snow, and then next thing she knew Bluefur had carried her home. She believes Bluestar's story and believes her littermates are dead

She's really close with her dad, Thrushpelt. During free time she can often be found sharing tongues or having a meal with him

When she is busy, however, she's putting her focus on Ravenpaw. Mosscloud is an incredibly patient cat and wants to draw Ravenpaw out of his shell. She knows he has the potential to be a great warrior

Darkstripe

Black smoke classic tabby tom with a broad face and amber eyes. Like mama Willowpelt he looks like a British Shorthair

Longtail (Apprentice: Firepaw)

Lithe cinnamon silver classic tabby tom with a long tail and blue eyes

He was named a warrior 2 moons before Rusty came to Thunderclan

He was assigned to train Firepaw since he was so keen on testing the tom as soon as he stepped paw in camp (I'll go more in dept on this later)

Runningwind

What does "swift tabby tom" mean @ The Erins???

Here he's a fawn classic tabby tom with yellow-green eyes

He found Sandpaw at the edge of the territory when she was about a halfmoon-moon old kit and immediately brought her home to Thunderclan. She smelled of Windclan and he guessed a queen in the clan had abandoned her

Mousefur

Chocolate ticked tabby she-cat with amber eyes

She's pretty popular among the clan

She's around Longtail's age. They'd been named warriors together

Apprentices:

Sandpaw

Lithe dilute ginger classic tabby she-cat with green eyes

She doesn't know she was adopted from outside of Thunderclan. Nobody wants to tell her and frankly nobody really cares. She has clan blood, that's what's important. Plus she's strong, both physically and in wills

She's the oldest apprentice at approximately 9 and a half-10 moons

Dustpaw

Chocolate smoke tabby tom with amber eyes

He's kinda lean, like his brother. By the way Ravenpaw is his brother

He is 9 moons old at the beginning of Into the Wild

Ravenpaw

Small lithe black tom with a white chest locket, white tail-tip, and purple eyes ((this is my rewrite and I say purple-eyed ravenpaw rights.))

Like his brother he is 9 moons old

Ravenpaw is very grateful for his mentor. At first he feared he'd be given to a cat like Tigerclaw. But when he was given to Mosscloud, he calmed down, if only slightly. He appreciates her kind words and encouragement, and he responds well when she pushes him to do better. He wants to make Mosscloud proud

Graypaw

Longhaired gray tom with yellow eyes, a broad head, and a darker gray stripe from his forehead to his tail-tip. He looks like a British Longhair

He is 6 moons old at the start of Into the Wild, just like in canon. In fact, he'd been named an apprentice the sunhigh before he met Rusty.

He is still Willowpelt's son, despite having siblings who are two moons younger than him. Willowpelt became pregnant again not long after Graykit had been born.

Firepaw

Tom, handsome sorrel Abyssinian mix with green eyes. He's just...really orange

He's plump when he first comes to Thunderclan. Actually he remains kinda chubby

He's 6 moons at the start of Into the Wild

Queens:

Frostfur

Dilute tortoishell point siamese she-cat with a plumy tail and blue eyes

Obviously, her mate is Lionheart. They're the kinda couple who's really mushy and lovey

Her kits are Brackenkit, Swiftkit, and Snowkit

Willowpelt

Silver shaded white she-cat with a broad head and rich blue eyes ("rich" as in super blue. Like deep ocean blue). She looks like a British Shorthair

I decided to make her a queen early. I really like Willowpelt and I think she'd be good as a queen longer

Her mate is Whitestorm

Her kits are Cinderkit and Mistlekit

Before her current kits, Willowpelt had had 2 seperate litters before. Her first born is Darkstripe, who had siblings who had died young. He has an unknown father, but its suspected that he's half Shadowclan. Willowpelt's next litter consisted of one kit: Graypaw, who is also suspected to be half Shadowclan, but by a different tom.

Cinderkit and Mistlekit were born two moons after Graypaw was. This is because Willowpelt had had an out of clan affair, and while expecting a litter, fell in love with Whitestorm. When she was able to, she and Whitestorm mated and it resulted in kits a little sooner than either had expected. Yes this is a real thing that can happen, female cats can get pregnant again anywhere from 1-8 weeks after kitting.

Brindleface

Silver-gray spotted tabby she-cat with yellow-green eyes (I know what Brindle means but I've always headcanoned her to look like this)

She's expecting kits. Nobody knows who the father is though

Goldenflower

Pretty longhaired golden she-cat with broad shoulders, a broad head, and green eyes

She's incredibly fluffy. Even moreso than her brother

Her kits are Brightkit and Thornkit

Nobody knows who the father of her kits are, and she's going to keep it that way

Speckletail

Chocolate tortoishell she-cat

She doesn't have any kits as she is too old. She's just a permanent queen who likes helping newer mothers and kitsitting. She probably won't ever retire.

Blue-gray she-cat with a broad face and blue eyes

She's almost old enough to become an apprentice

Brackenkit

Golden-brown tabby tom with amber eyes

Brackenkit and his littermates are about a moon younger than Willowpelt's kits

Brightkit

Long haired white and ginger patched she-cat with green eyes

She's about a moon old

Thornkit

Longhaired golden tabby tom with orange eyes

Like his sister, he's a moon old

Swiftkit

White and black patched tom with heterochromatic eyes (one yellow and one blue)

Snowkit

Mostly pure white tom with blue eyes and a small patch of gray on the bridge of his nose. He is 100% deaf

I'm keeping this precious baby alive, you'll have to pry him out of my cold dead hands

Silver shaded white she-cat with a plumy tail and yellow eyes

In canon she's Snowkit's littermate (who the Erins completely forgot about) soo I've revamped her and turned her into Cinderkit's littermate.

Like her sister she's about ready to become an apprentice

He adores Mosscloud with all his heart as if she were his own kit. As far as he and the clan's concerned, she is his kit. He's so happy he got to be involved in raising at least one of Bluestar's litter

Rosetail

Dilute mostly gray tortoishell with a pale ginger tail, and a white underbelly and paws

She retired early when Thistleclaw died

One day Bluestar explained to her how terrible her brother was, and even though she knows and understands, she still misses him

Smudge

Tom, Harliquine purebred Japanese Bobtail. Aka he's white and black patched and has a cute nubby tail

He has a little red bowtie collar

Yellowfang

Longhaired, flat faced, dark gray she-cat with a ragged scarred pelt, a yellow snaggle tooth, and orange eyes

Her name is actually Smokefang, but when she's exiled from Shadowclan she changes it.

Cats used to call her yellow-fang as an insult to her hygiene, so she took it on as her identity cause she's that bitch

Jake

Tom, purebred sorrel Abyssinian with amber eyes and a rainbow collar

Why do his owners let him roam around??? They probably don't know he's a pedigree purebred tbh

Nutmeg

Ginger and white tabby she-cat with green eyes

Princess

She-cat, ruddy and white Abyssinian mix with amber eyes and a pink collar

Barley

Black and white tom with yellow eyes and a red bandanna around his neck

Probably has a southern accent

Scourge

Tom, small all black Abyssinian mix with one white paw, ice blue eyes, a tooth studded collar, and dog teeth reinforced claws

Gotta talk about my boi if we're talking about a rewrite. He's probably got a genetic condition through Quince that makes him so damn small. Not to mention he's a runt

His collar is purple cause I make the rules here. And the very front has a bird skull because that's edgy and its a nod to flightfootwarrior/aka @ corvidkatana's old scourge design which I'm incredibly fond of

Also he has a hard time talking and walking. His collar's kinda tight on him now and it hurts to talk. His usual silence comes out more intimidating anyways. As for the difficulty walking thats due to his claws.

10. Name 3 pets that are no longer with you and what your favorite thing about each was.

Kat: Sara never had pets before the boys :( so I'll answer this one. All three of mine are family pets I had growing up. 

1. We used to have a black cat, Midnight. We adopted her unofficially after she just started hanging around our house. She was an outdoor cat, but my brother and I used to climb trees and play in the bushes with her. She even had a dog house with a heating pad for the winter! 

2. Our parakeet, Zeus. He would hang out on my family's screened in porch when it was warm out, and fly back inside to his cage at night because he was afraid of the dark! 

3. My brother and I had guinea pigs in elementary school. Hazel and Mocha. Hazel (a cream abyssinian) was mine, and he taught me a lot about caring for animals. We loved to have them run around the room they lived in, and they were most of the inspiration to get pet guinea pigs as an adult.
