some good news!! the spanish state's ministry of equality has finally passed one of the most progressive trans laws on the planet, shielded free and universal access to abortion and banned conversion therapy and genital surgery for intersex babies, among a lot of other feminist policies. the minister of equality irene montero gave a speech thanking spain's lgtb and trans associations for helping her draft these legislations. couldn't be more proud!!

ALT TEXT ISSUE
So just a heads-up for folks who defer to using ALT text on their posts instead of plaintext IDs, if the ALT text is long enough clicking on the ALT button to visually read the text creates a problem, because as soon as you move your cursor away from the ALT button (like if you use a screen magnifier and are trying to scroll down the page to read the rest of the ALT text) the text WILL DISAPPEAR. It is not possible to continue reading the whole thing visually, which is a problem for blind/low vision users that rely on screen magnifiers or enlarged text.
I know that most people prefer ALT text because people hate having long IDs on their posts, and that generally ALT text is better for people who use screen readers, but it is continuously proving to be a problem for blind/low vision users that rely on screen magnifiers over screen readers. So please PLEASE consider including plaintext IDs so that we can read them too, especially if your IDs are long and likely to get cut off by the limitations of the screen size.

Okay to reblog/like even if you're on my DNI. I'm putting this on my disability blog because it relates to accessibility.
Let's talk about inaccessibility in the MOGAI/LIOM/Queer/LGBTQIA+ community online. Especially if you're a coiner, flag maker, or whatever.
Do you know how privileged it is to be able to not make any, and I mean ANY, of your posts accessible because you are arrogant about people being forced out of the community because of you? Specifically people who are visually impaired in any way which are forced out of the community because you're lack of willingness to be accessible?
There are many, MANY resources available to you to make your posts accessible. You absolutely can make your posts accessible. YOU, yes YOU, can absolutely fucking make YOUR POSTS accessible. Just fucking ask. Reach out.
You can draft your posts, you can look further into communities to make your post accessible before posting, you can save spoons to make your post accessible or wait until you have spoons to make them accessible, and you can look for others to create descriptions/plain text FOR YOUR POSTS.
At this point, there is no excuse to have none of your posts be accessible. "I don't have spoons," but making flags and counting terms also requires spoons. You aren't sneaky with not wanting to be accessible and putting in the work to do so. Oh, and we shouldn't have to be fucking BEGGING and ASKING for accessibility. BEING ACCESSIBLE SHOULD BE STANDARD.
[PT: Being accessible should be standard. End]
So you know what? Start calling people out on this ableist, arrogant behavior. And you know what else? It is ableist if you do not make no attempt to be accessible. Simply because, you have no reason to not be. If your blog shows absolutely NO ATTEMPT at being accessible, YOU need to change. Doesn't matter if it, 'ruins your aesthetic,' neither.
Start being accessible, or continue to have no care whatsoever for people who require that accessibility on your posts. Show no care and sympathy for people who are forced out of the community because of you.

I feel like now is a good time to make this perfectly clear: I am unapologetically pro-choice. If you don't like that, block me.
Y'know what? If you're anti-abortion/pro-forced birth? Please block me. Stay far away from me. Kindly go away.

Genuine shoutout to all the unsung internet volunteers- Wikipedia writers, subtitle and closed caption transcribers, alt text and image captioners, people who answer those super specific reddit and quora requests, people who share code to get past paywalls and links to alternative programs.
Y'all are the real heroes and I owe so much of my academic, professional, and leisure success to you <3

why do people think it's funny and cute when you make an image description that has nothing to do with the image.
it's not funny.
it's not cute.
it's ableist.

it really is looking like i'm gonna finally have to make a choice between which citizenship i want to keep and it occurred to me that i'm not even attached to the idea of being canadian in an emotional or personal sense it's the first world privilege of having the citizenship/passport and the economic benefits of that, including the ability to (relatively) easily access funding as an artist, that makes me hesitate giving it up. but emotionally i don't think i could recover from having to formally give up my malaysian citizenship it would feel like a part of me has been denied or taken and it's not due to attachment to the state or gov of msia but to the people and culture and my family... i can find a way to live with myself and inhabit this world no longer being a citizen of the first world but i couldn't live with myself if i abandoned my home country for the first world it would feel like a betrayal of myself and my grandparents and of my own politics and i can't do it. but to embrace it wholeheartedly requires giving up that first world privilege which is scary, if you are someone who has had it most of your life, and i recognize that even having the choice is a privilege as well. but i would not be able to respect myself if i made my decision based on that fear or allowed it to guide me. the majority of people on earth do not have that ability to choose nor the economic advantage of being a western citizen; i am no different from them, not "better" nor "special", and if they can do it, i can too.

a pretty major aspect of wolf 359's worldbuilding that i think about sometimes is that goddard futuristics is the megacorporation, like. jacobi says, "goddard's done some good stuff", citing the development of solar energy and investments in water purification, eco-friendly fertilizers, global internet access, etc. and... i mean, yes. obviously, objectively, all good things that i wish we also had. but also all goddard-owned and beholden to their interests. that line is in response to eiffel saying "yeah, i'm sure the team retreats where you got to burn down the rainforest were amazing" - like, it's about efficiency, not environmentalism; the good parts are a byproduct.
the same thing applies to the inaccessibility of goddard's other developments - AI development is so under wraps that even maxwell, working for the "best" AI research lab in the country, was unaware of the existence of "full-minded" AI until she was recruited by goddard. and part of why she was recruited was her disagreement with the board for ethical AI development. goddard has made some incredible advancements in the field of biotech, but like... do you think those things are accessible to the average person? these life-saving medical developments and disability aids exist, but who actually gets them? cutter is financially blackmailing eiffel by paying for anne's medical bills, education, etc. - his control over all of these things gives him potential leverage over just about anyone.
and then you have just, like, the fact that goddard is involved in so many things - space exploration, air travel, utilities, the military, medicine, agriculture, probably just everyday goods... it's bad enough in real life if you're trying to avoid a few major corporations; there are going to be so many things in their day-to-day lives that they never even realized were goddard-made until they get back to earth and start seeing it everywhere. and goddard futuristics started out as the wright-goddard aeronautics company; the wright brothers are already in like, every textbook ever - imagine how that's taught in a world where so many major developments are consolidated under this one narrative? gabriel urbina made an off-hand comment once about how, yes, NASA exists in the world of wolf 359, but you have to wonder who has better funding - the US government, or goddard futuristics?

being trans in the UK right now is so very strange, you're able to go to a mainstream high-budget arts and/or science institution and find beautiful acknowledgements of your history and respectful inclusion of current lives and projects and politics that's based in well-researched community-minded testimony and statistics, but then the government and healthcare industry is all but openly admitting that they want you to disappear off the face of the earth, based largely on the ravings of one terminally online author, a few disgraced academics and comics, and their far-right antisemitic misogynist racist american evangelist friends on a site run by a billionaire megalomaniac. i go to some positive visibility celebrating bodily autonomy that makes it seem like we're moving forwards on the same day as the cass report is released and everything is on fire

I just learned Rammatra's character (design and lore) is actually just a rip off of two Argentinian fans' overwatch oc named Voltikko. Made months before Ramattra was released. Never contacted or compensated for thier work.
Blizz is using Ramattra to sell overpriced skins and further predatory monetization, and worse yet they are monetizing STOLEN WORK this way.
https://twitter.com/MarioKMentasti/status/1589124322937143296?t=z0E8Y_vn_JNVaBvVJcfZJw&s=19
Seriously what the hell. There is NO WAY that Ramattra wasn't lifted from Voltikko's design, the big extra arms, face + cord hair, and Ramattra's construction skin, and lore bites, are all lifted from Voltikko's design and lore created by two fans. The way I honestly thought it was paid concept art just to realize no, it was stolen from.

This is so fucking goofy to me (derogatory)
Also to be clear I'm joining Nintendo's war on piracy on the side of piracy. Btw. Hack your 3DS (do NOT update your 3DS if you haven't hacked it yet 🫡)
