The Universality of Sad Burrito

While researching, I found this:

He’s actually in mourning for Patroklos, but you could imagine someone wrapping themselves up in a cloak like this on an exceptionally cold day for warmth.]

it is so funny to me that madeline miller didn't include patroclus' funeral games in the song of achilles bc that was a SOLID portion of the iliad. like i get it's not the vibe or the right pacing but she does the rest of the poem so faithfully and then goes oh the funeral? fuck that. not even a mention. iconic

#like achilles stopped the ENTIRE WAR to do an extended mourning period and honour patroclus in the most over the top way possible #and thennnn he went ballistic on the trojans and dragged hector around for a week
