The Musketeers’ season 1: WOMEN
Fandom: BBC The Musketeers (2014)
Series: The Musketeers’ season 1
Part: 8 of series “The Musketeers’ Season 1”
Title of the story: Women.
Chapter 6 is up!!
Summary:
Query 1: “How much shit did women put up with in the 17th century?” Query 2: “And queer people?” Answer: “Lots.” Query 3: “What happens if you give women and queer people a few needed elements to help each other? Answer: “They help each other.”
This story takes place between “The Homecoming” and “The exiles”, and it’s essentially the answer to the last question. It allows me to explore the world of The Musketeers following women and queer people.
It also gives me the opportunity to deal with story-lines from the show that I think could have been explored in more depth: Adèle Bessett, the lack of heir, Constance’s life, etc.
Genre: humor, friendship, romance, politics (political plot), mission/case, women centered, queer themes.
Season/episode: Season 1. After episode 1x05 – The Homecoming.
Nonromantic Pairings: Athos & Constance, Athos & Aramis & Porthos & D’Artagnan & Treville & Constance (in all possible combinations), Athos & OFC, Athos & OMC.
Romantic Pairings: Treville/Camille Mauriac (OFC), mention of Athos/OFC (intersex)
Rating: M
Warnings: violent situations, sexual innuendo, mentions of prostitution (this author is pro-sex workers’ rights and so are the stories), mentions of alcohol consumption, sexual abuse, domestic abuse, violence against women, discrimination/violence against queer characters.

Porthos + 16 and 20, Aramis + 12 and 13? 👀
Oo, that’s many :D
Porthos
16. Dark secrets/’skeletons in the closet’
Porthos has killed a few people when he was a child. Even though he had some friends, his life was a fight of survival growing up. Even Charon or Flea don’t know what lengths he had to go to survive. He finds it better that way.
20. What-ifs/Alternate Timelines
Porthos’ mom didn’t die: Although poor, they still have each other. When he’s old enough, Porthos joins the military, and eventually the musketeers. When he and Aramis become friends, Aramis gets to meet Porthos’ mom who adores Aramis.
Porthos was at Savoy too: In this timeline, Aramis isn’t the only one who comes back. Porthos was gravely wounded, but Aramis, even in his injured state, managed to heal Porthos’ wounds. It helps not to be the only one who lived through the massacre, not to be the only one to have nightmares. He and Aramis grow extremely close, especially since Aramis has an unhealthy fear of losing Porthos after Savoy.
Can’t think of any other scenarios atm 😅
Aramis
12. Grudges and vendettas
When Aramis finds out the truth about Savoy, he realises he will never be able to quite forgive the cardinal for what he did. When he finds out about Adèle Bessette and what the cardinal did to her, he realises that even in death, he cannot forgive Richelieu entirely.
When he was younger, he also held grudges against Isabelle’s father. When he found out that he wasn’t the one who took Isabelle away, he felt ashamed of himself, having allowed his emotions to guide him like that.
13. What gets them flustered
Aramis is usually smooth, until someone mentions his mother. He loved his mother dearly and anyone who’s heard him talk about her knows it. If they mention this to Aramis, he tries to tell them off, but he blushes nonetheless.
Also, when he becomes the First Minister, the Dauphin gets excellent at making Aramis flustered by asking questions like “Do you like mama?” and “How do you know my lullaby?”, but luckily the queen usually manages to save the day.

Aramis is involved when the third victim is found to be his lover, Adele Bessett, and Porthos Devallon wants to know who killed Flea, the first victim.
