There was a silenced yelp from the orange-haired girl as a palm clasped over her mouth and she was tugged backwards, her back hitting someone's chest. The arm holding her was alarmingly large, and she tried to pry herself free, but she was shushed.
"Quit wigglin'. I ain't gonna hurt'ya, damn it," the attacker grumbled, pressing his palm harder against her face. Yeah right. She didn't believe a single word of that.
She squirmed more, and her head was tilted backwards, where she found one of the family members looking down at her, his eyes narrowed sternly as he shook his head.
"Quiet down if you wanna live. If I wanted you dead, you wouldn't still be breathin'. Just hold on," he directed, and Connie frowned, but she did as he asked. He had a good point; he hadn't had any issue slicing the throats of Leland or Ana, and she supposed he would've done the same with her if he wanted her dead.
Plus, she didn't have much of a choice. His arm was wrapped around her torso, preventing her from doing anything more than squirming. Connie's breath hitched as he pulled her deeper into the shed, her eyes widening as she saw the shadow of another family member through the holes in the wood.
"C'mon pretty darlin'! Come on out for us!" A female giggled, calling out for the last remaining victim. Connie looked up at the dark-haired man holding her, and he looked back down at her, shaking his head again. Well, right now it seemed like her two choices were to either die by the hands of this guy, or die by the hands of the slightly more psychotic woman outside.
She chose this guy.
And yet, when the footsteps receded and she braced herself for impact- A blunt force to her head, a stab in her gut, a knife to her throat... she felt his hands release her, and she stumbled forward, turning back to look at him.
"What the hell?" She whispered, looking the man up and down.
"I ain't lettin' 'em kill you. Made the mistake once, I ain't makin' it again. Follow me, an' be silent. 'Less you want me to kill you." He looked her up and down, and she shook her head. "Didn't think so. Be silent now."
Connie responded with nothing more than a nod, deciding her best shot was to follow now, and ask questions later.
~
"I still don't understand," she sighed, sitting criss-cross on a neatly arranged motel bed.
"Shouldn't you just be glad yer still kickin'?" Johnny glanced behind him at the redhead before he returned his attention to the window he was spying out of.
"I don't think they're coming," Connie murmured, picking at her fingernails.
"You don't know that."
"It's been two hours..."
"Listen here, missy." Johnny turned around with a scowl, and Connie stared him down, blinking. He wanted to get onto her, but all he could manage was a question that had been brewing in his mind. "How the hell'd you 'n your friends find us, anyways?"
"We found her car. Your house was the closest sign of life, so Leland and Ana went out one night and saw you taking a girl back. When they didn't see her leave the next day, we assumed it was you guys who took Maria," Connie explained. While she was obviously nervous being in the same room as a murderer who had killed her friends the very same day, what choice did she have but to engage with him?
Connie quite liked living, having a beating heart, and breathing. She chose that over angering this guy any day. "You damn idiots didn't have a clue what you were gettin' into, huh?"
Connie shrugged, and shook her head. "I guess not," she sighed, scooting backwards on the bed and bringing her knees to her chest. "It was so stupid of us. We didn't know what to do. We just wanted to save Maria."
"Guess you learned your lesson," Johnny mumbled, and Connie frowned. Then she scoffed, turning to look at Johnny.
"Seriously? Don't you have any remorse?" She raised her voice, losing sight of her goal to stay alive. Between his cocky attitude and her friends being dead, she was on her last straw. "You killed them. All of them. They were innocent!"
"I did what I had to," Johnny huffed, looking almost disgusted with Connie. "You're lucky I let you go."
"You didn't let me go. You're practically holding me hostage. What the hell do you want with me, anyways?" Connie growled.
"Well, I can't let you go. You'll run 'n tattle to the cops."
"Yeah, obviously. You're a murderer." Connie took in a deep breath and set her chin between her knees. "You should've killed me. Now I'm just gonna be stuck in purgatory with a cannibal."
"Listen, Darlin'-"
"Ew, don't call me that," Connie snapped.
"I am keepin' you safe, in case you didn't notice. I could'a killed ya."
"So why didn't you? Why did I have to be the one you choose to keep around as a pet?"
Johnny sighed, pressing a palm to his face. He tapped his foot, growing impatient with the bratty girl. She had a point, and a reason to be angry, but it was still hell to deal with. It wasn't like he could just tell her that he liked her spirit, that he thought she was cute, that he appreciated her ferocity-- No, this was not the right circumstance for trying to flirt with a girl. Maybe don't kill her friends next time, jackass. "I'm tired'a being the bad guy. Wanted to help someone for once," he lied, not even sounding that sure of himself.
"You didn't save the others. You had a chance to be the good guy. You really fucked that one up," Connie grumbled. "How long do you plan on holding me hostage?"
"I'm not holdin' you hostage."
"So I can leave?"
"No."
"Then I'm a hostage," Connie corrected.
"Quit sayin' that, dammit."
"Oh, I'm sorry, do you want me on my knees thanking you for what a hero you've been to me? What's your name again? Johnny?" Connie frowned, and then cleared her throat. "Oh, thank you, Johnny! Thank you for killing my friends, kidnapping me, and being a sick bastard of a cannibal. You really are my savior."
Johnny sighed, rolling his eyes. She was not the company he was expecting. Not the company he was hoping for. He had gotten himself into this situation, and yet he couldn't bring himself to pity the girl. Not with this attitude of hers. "You make a habit of talkin' back?"
"Only to serial killers."
"Fine. I wanted to save you. You ain't deservin' of the shit that yer friends went through."
"Neither were they!" Connie yelled, her voice cracking. "God damn it," she whined, pulling her knees closer to her chest as she gave away her weakness. Finally, Johnny felt a slight twinge of regret, of sympathy for the girl.
"I'm sorry," Johnny mumbled, stepping towards the girl.
"Saying sorry doesn't bring them back," she whispered, finally breaking as she let out a tense exhale, silently crying into her knees.
"I know. I-" Johnny paused. He had no clue how to reassure or comfort people. He knew how to make them cry, not how to make them stop. He awkwardly shuffled over to the bed, taking a seat on the edge of it. "I could only save one of ya. They would'a got the rest, and you too, if I tried savin' all of 'em."
Connie didn't respond, she just cried, and Johnny rolled his eyes, more so at the frustration of his own incompetence than at the fact that she was crying.
Johnny shuffled closer to her, looking her balled-up frame up and down, trying to figure out what to do. After an awkward moment of silence, he shuffled even closer.
Connie felt arms around her, and she whimpered, giving in to her needs. She leaned against his chest, crying into him, and he, albeit stiffly, hugged her as she did so. "I'm real sorry, darlin'."
Connie still didn't offer any form of a verbal reply, but she did wrap her arms around his stomach as she cried, and Johnny placed his chin on her head. He didn't know what to do, he was simply following what felt natural. And it seemed to be working.
How he was going to make this up to her, he didn't have the slightest clue. But he wanted to try. He really wanted to try.

LOOKING FOR TCM WRITERS ,
hey there! 22nb looking for chill writing partners to roleplay with. you must be 18+ due to the topics we may cover (that can vary ... substance abuse, gore, nsfw etc)
I love to brainstorm and discuss possible events, headcanons, and scenarios we can work towards, as plot is mainly what I focus upon along with development (in the story and the relationship itself)
open to AUs, canon-divergent stories, or sticking to canon. my aim is to have fun when I'm writing, so the length doesn't matter much to me--- could vary from a paragraph or two to full on novellas, though I'm not good with one-liners (I loooove details). I write in third person and past-tense. triggers and further details may be discussed in DMs
my characters , - Johnny Slaughter (my #1 interest when it comes to writing, would love to write against Leland or Danny) - Leland McKinney (open to writing against Danny or Johnny) - Connie Taylor (open to anyone, can be romantic or platonic) - Steve Harrington (I created a TCM adaptation of him, would love to write against a Leland, Johnny or Danny)
if interested, interact with this post, or shoot me a message!

Some headcanons about the wiseguy's music tastes.
One thing I always adore when I create personal headcanons is to come up with, who I think are suitable music tastes, for each character. so Let's start off with the big boss. Don Vittorio = guy likes it classy, prefers Jazz over everything. He definitely owns 5 clubs of his own. Some favorite artists of him would be Jula De Palma and Bruno Martino. Fat Tony = Him and Music, well I put a lot of thought into this one but I'd say he seems more of the traditional pop type of guy, plus a lot of folk music. I can see him being a big fan of Frank Sinatra and Connie Francis. but as revealed in "The Fat blue line", Tony likes to sing show tunes in his spare time. Seeing as he sung "I'm still here" From a certain Musical adapted from the book of the same name, "Follies". I do not know what Tony sees in that musical but hey that's his business. So listening to broadway tunes is also on the list, something tells me he would like the broadway version of "Heathers". Legs = Guy's classic, his parents listened to nothing more than Italian opera so he grew up with legends like Renata Tebaldi and Franco Corelli. Growing up they weren't really lucky so they didn't have a radio or a tv, they had to rely on what they already had like the old record player in their living room with multiple vinyls left from his grandparents. Though occasionally, and as Legs grew up into being a proper adult, he slowly began to grow a liking towards Old School Hip Hop, artists like the Crash crew. But other than that, He's a HUUGGEE Mina fan-boy. That dude knows every lyric to her songs and Will put it on when it's karaoke night. Tony and Louie can absolutely not stand any of that and are confused for why he even likes that. Speaking of Louie~ Louie = Now there's no surprise here, the guy was seen attending the Rolling stones rock camp so that dude is obviously a huge fan. He likes classic rock but something tells me he is a huge fan of Psychedelic rock aswell. He likes both the stones, obviously, but also the doors and Jimi Hendrix. Legs is so fed up each time Louie puts on "Purple haze" but what else can he do other than groan and just wait until the song is over? Frankie = Ohh-- THIS GUY. This little baby man, oh he listens to modern pop- Huge Taylor swift fan but he also stays true to his Italian side, so both Taylor and Marco Mengoni fan. I couldn't think of anything else that would fit him other than being an obvious pop fan. Feel like he dances to Shake it off when he's alone. And that should be all for the main guys. If you're asking where Johnny is in all of this-- well, that's a story for another time~
But I would like to include some one-time characters aswell. Willie Whatever is a big rock fan, Dan Gillick is a very big Beatles and The Yardbirds fan, Jimmy "The Axe" loves disco, once it was popularized in Italy he couldn't stop listening and going to disco clubs. HOWEVER, one band. One most crucial band that everyone can put their differences aside for is Måneskin. Oh, Louie loves them, Legs admires them and Tony doesn't know if he should like them or not, the portrayal the band and overall appearance leaves him a bit uncomfortable. But nevertheless, they love them and even went to a concert together. I swear, they even have records in the club. Just for entertainment.

The Prize Divides Them
Tumblr media
Zhuang Zhou an early Chinese philosopher and sage had this to say about competition:
“When the archer shoots for nothing he has all of his powers.
When he competes for a brass buckle he is already nervous.
When he shoots for a prize of gold he sees double.
His skills haven’t changed but the prize divides him.”
I’ve been reflecting recently about competition and prizes - especially after watching or rather re-watching the television series, “Friday Night Lights.”  Set in Dillon, a fictional town in Texas in the early 2000s, it depicts the ways in which the town’s identity or what begins to feel like its very being is tied to the success or failure of its high school football team.
Starting out as Buzz Bissinger’s non-fiction account of the 1988 Permian High School Panthers from Odessa, Texas, “Friday Night Lights,”  was made into a movie with Billy Bob Thornton as the team’s head coach in 2004. Two years later it was adapted as a television series on NBC starring Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton as coach Eric Taylor and his wife Tami.  It’s an older series that many have already seen but the life lessons that it offers and its critique of competition may be timeless. The fact that it is based on a football season in an actual town makes its narrative that much more compelling.
To describe high school football games in Dillon as paramount in importance would be an understatement.  It is more the town’s Friday night religious ritual with an uncertain outcome - an outcome that everyone in this small Texas community is emotionally attached to.  The prize that Dillon is obsessed with is the state high school football championship but there is obviously something much deeper at stake.  Local businesses boost the team and seem to rely on its status as a selling point while politicians boast about it on the campaign trail, as if the team’s success was a product of their support.  The better rationale for the need to win at any cost has to do with the composition of the Dillon Panthers. It is a team of mostly working class boys and their families who see football stardom as the route to college scholarships, upward mobility and a shot at the pros.
The burden that this team carries is that it is never supposed to lose. And If towns were evaluated based on their tragic flaws, Dillon’s would be its inability to accept loss, or more specifically lost football games.  Aversion to losing is at the root of the town’s suffering and permeates the relationships of its citizens.  When the team wins a game the town is euphoric but following a Friday night loss  - the inevitable losses that  occur in even the greatest teams for a host of reasons - gloom descends upon Dillon.
The sour mood of the town is then amplified by a local radio station that becomes a  backdrop to the series piping out an endless stream of speculation and critique.  Some of it is just Saturday morning quarterbacking but it is hard to tune it out if you live in Dillon.  And since just about everyone in town is obsessed with winning and allergic to loss, head coach Taylor is bombarded with his neighbors' strategies on who to play and what formations to employ whether he is shopping on main street, eating at a local restaurant or attending a community event.
The collective depression of people in Dillon following a loss can turn into sullen anger  that might be directed at a player who might have fumbled during a game, or more predictably against Coach Taylor.  On Saturday morning he and his family may awaken to garbage strewn on their lawn or a “For Sale” sign posted prominently in their front yard  indicating that the coach has failed the town and deserves to be exiled….. or at least publicly humiliated.  Of course, if the play or pass that lost the game, often by inches, had been successfully completed and the Panthers had been victorious, Coach Taylor would instead be the town hero.  When he eventually loses to a powerhouse team by two points in the season’s championship game the town board votes him out and offers his position to another coach.
The inability to accept and metabolize loss can be found everywhere in Dillon.  The Panther’s rallying cry is “Clear eyes, full hearts, can’t lose!” and there is a prayer session before each game beseeching the Lord to carry their team to victory.  The prayer may at first seem like a righteous, Christian and even humble request until one considers that the truly Christian thing to do would be to pray for the other team’s  success and safety, too.  Aren’t they also deserving of the same divine oversight that the Dillon Panthers are requesting for themselves?
If the pressure to win at any cost forms the central theme of “Friday Night Lights,” the plot also unfolds around a terrible injury that may have been averted if the underlying code of machismo and shame attached to loss had not been there in the first place.  In episode one of the first season, star quarterback Jason Street attempts a play that he was not properly trained to perform.  In fact, most quarterbacks are not well schooled in how to tackle and Street’s attempt to bring down a sprinting ball handler from the opposing team leaves him wheelchair bound for life. Street’s tackle may have prevented a touchdown, but whether it would have been acceptable in this culture for him to have not taken the risk of making this dangerous play in the interest of his own health and safety is a question worth pondering.
The culture of  extreme competition that pushes Jason Street to make a dangerous tackle is the same ethos that encourages Smash Williams, a talented and charismatic Panther running-back to take performance enhancing steroids, endangering his own health, the team’s eligibility to compete and the coach’s career. But If winning is your only option and physical and other limitations are never to be accepted then the ends will often justify the means and integrity may fall by the wayside.
Anyone watching Friday Night Lights would find it hard not to make the connection between the practice sessions of Dillon’s high school football players and the basic training of military recruits.  Drill sergeants and team coaches emphasize discipline but the quality of the measures employed matter.  The value of more punitive discipline and whether or not it serves any purpose to have a player run up and down the stadium steps in uniform on a searing Texas afternoon is a question worth considering.
Coach Taylor demands loyalty and discipline from his team but he also exhibits sound judgment and keen insight around how to approach his players.  The things that he communicates and the actions that he takes are generally straightforward and encourage personal growth.  On the other hand, the dangers of barking orders at young men and demanding that they follow them can have a dark side.  When a much harsher and more punitive coach briefly replaces Taylor, we can see shadows of the rigid types of training and autocratic discipline embodied in military missions gone awry.  It is not hard to see how the ethic of just following orders can end in tragedy.
The saving grace of the town of Dillon and this series has to do with the relationships between its many characters, a multitude of  enduring  bonds that the audience is drawn into.  In these complex relationships, team members are at times called upon to transcend  the race and class differences that divide them.  And on occasion parents and other adults - mainly Coach Taylor and his wife Tami - are able to see beyond their short-term needs and desires and act with wisdom and integrity.
My take-away from this series is that the prize, whatever that trophy may be, need not divide people as much as it does.  And the obvious lesson that this town needs to learn is that there can be pride in making a valiant effort - that you can lose and still maintain your esteem and your dignity.  Losing with honor - or even forfeiting a game when there are too many injured players  is not a cause for shame.  It should also be understood that the best strategies along with the most inspirational locker room chat by a coach rarely overcomes another team’s assets which may include an ace quarterback, highly skilled runners and powerful offensive and defensive lines.  The opposing team may simply be better than yours and the shot that you get at winning against them in the future may involve a lot of hard work.
To mitigate the toxicity embedded in the culture of cutthroat competition the citizens of Dillon would need to begin seeing the potential and power in their relationships. The challenges that it needs to keep grappling with have a lot to do with loyalty and cooperation  with each other.  Teamwork and collective effort needs to be emphasized over the false idol of individual stardom. The myth that has been put forth to kids about sports icons like Peyton Manning or Michael Jordan is: “you too can achieve stardom if you want it badly enough”- or maybe if you’re fierce enough in your competitive strivings.  It’s a message that doesn’t have much to offer the majority of poor and working class kids who will never get a shot at the big leagues. They would probably benefit a great deal more by internalizing the value of solidarity.
At one point in this series the Black players on the Panthers unite to make a point about a coach who made a statement that had racist undertones.  There is power embodied in this type of collective action that can be applied to a shared business venture, the unity of workers demanding rights and the camaraderie of being a part of a community project or organization.  Rather than trying to garner esteem and pride by pursuing and identifying with an elusive prize, the town of Dillon and its citizens might fare better if they truly cherished their connections with one another.  By valuing these bonds over having to win at any cost they would probably all benefit from feeling less burdened.  And perhaps, with this new type of acceptance they could better embrace both triumphs and losses with clear eyes, open hearts and a deep sense of grace.

It's always about Conrad what about Jere and Belly why don't they matter? Jere especially feels like he will never be loved enough sure his mom loved him but not enough and his dad didn't love him at all both his parents basically only cared about Conrad if Jenny screws with Jelly I will be pissed because this can't happen again
Yeah the tsitp is SO hypocritical. Connie is an angel in their eyes no matter what and his actions will always be excused while Jere and Belly are like evil incarnate to them & much of the hatred jere and belly receive are undeserved.
Yeah, I hope the cheating plot goes down in the drain and doesn't get adapted coz I would really like a repeat of Jenny shutting up their "only bonrad gets Taylor Swift songs" argument.
Jelly are soulmates, idc whatever s3 tells me.

gone ask game part 2: now with roman numerals!!
i. what do you think is the most embarrassing (in terms of mg’s writing) moment in the series?
ii. penny is creating an illusion that will psychologically cut to the core of a character of your choosing. who is that character and what is that illusion?
iii. instead of the fayz happening when the main kids are 14, now it happens when they’re 17. how does this affect how mg writes their characters/the series in general?
iv. how do you feel about the potential existence of sexually explicit gone fic? do you feel it’s unethical given the characters’ youth? justified because the characters undergo graphic violence also unsuitable for their age group? gimme your thoughts!
v. why do you think orc and drake had “unnatural” (as in not technically superpowers, not given by little pete a la taylor, and not being able to be used by gaia) mutations? do you wish mg had resolved that question in canon?
vi. a romantic pairing you personally hate?
vii. in a breakfast club au, which characters would fulfill the stereotypes of jock, nerd, princess, rebel, and outcast? how would the kids interact with one another in a closed-off, normal setting like high school detention (pre-fayz or post-fayz, your choice)? bonus points for describing why they’re there in the first place!
viii. as a reverse to a question in my previous ask game—choose a decade to set gone in that’s before the ‘2000s. what decade do you choose? what changes would occur to the characters/plot as a result?
ix. do you think any of the characters can sing/dance? what kind of singing voice do they have?
x. do you picture any characters with scars post-fayz? who? where are the scars located?
xi. where do you think astrid’s abstinence and diana’s promiscuity come, psychology-wise?
xii. au where the all the kids (including those you want to bring back to life) are shuttled into a special private boarding school post-fayz, including (gulp) drake. they can’t leave, there are no weapons, they’re all powerless/mutation-less, and they’re forced to live together in a fairly strict learning environment. how do the characters deal with living under adults’ thumbs again? how do they deal with a neutered drake? how do they cope with their trauma without the agency afforded to them by emancipation? how do their friendships/relationships deepen/grow strained? most importantly, what’s their gpa???
xiii. what do you think [character(s) of your choosing] secretly desire above all else?
xiv. which illusion would penny conjure up for [character(s) of your choosing] that would fulfill their (not necessarily sexual) romantic fantasies?
xv. which [character(s) of your choosing] shave pre-fayz? which don’t?
xvi. astrid and diana have switched stereotypes! now diana is the “good girl” and astrid is the “bad girl,” but their individual personalities remain, at their core, the same. what does this look like?
xvii. was sam justified in severing his relationship with connie?
xviii. gone is now being adapted into an anime! how do the characters look in terms of their design? feel free to post examples of shows you’d like the style to be similar to!
xviii. what death scene would you rewrite if you had the chance? describe your rewritten scene!
xix. who is the weakest major character, writing-wise, in the series? the strongest?
xx. what would make [a characteer you dislike] more interesting to you? why?

‘Friday Night Lights’ Cast: Where Are They Now?
Texas forever! Friday Night Lights stole viewers’ hearts for five seasons on NBC — and the cast has just as much love for the series as their fans do. The series was inspired by H.G. Bissinger’s nonfiction book, which was later adapted into the 2004 film of the same name. From 2006 to 2011, the show followed the journeys of high school athletes and their families in a rural Texas town, picking up a Peabody Award, a Television Critics Association Award and several Emmy Award nominations along the way. Five years after the show went off the air, the cast reunited on the real-life Panther Field in Austin, Texas, at the 2016 ATX Television Festival. “Being back here is amazing,” Scott Porter, who played revered athlete Jason Street, told Entertainment Weekly at the time. “We used to play flag football on this field and I think that, even more than shooting out here, means something to me in a special way and to be where those memories were made, where those friendships were really forged and ironed.” Two years later, Porter opened up about the possibility of a revival of the sports drama — but emphasized that he thought the series gave each character the right amount of “closure” by the end. “There’s a lot of shows that end too early and the fanbase and those involved never get the closure that they really need,” he told Us Weekly. “I think a lot of us from Friday Night Lights all got the closure because it ended so well.” Though fans have been holding out hope for a reboot, Adrianne Palicki, who played Tyra Collette, shut down all speculation in April 2020. “I don’t know about you guys but I get this question every time I’m interviewed: Will there be a reunion episode or will there be a spinoff?” the actress asked her fellow costars, who reunited over Zoom for Global Citizen’s #TogetherAtHome special during the coronavirus pandemic. “The answer is no.” Scroll down to learn more about where the cast of Friday Night Lights is today.

Connie Britton (Tami Taylor) The Massachusetts native shined as Dillon High guidance counselor Tami Taylor and later moved on to star in gripping dramas like Nashville, American Horror Story, 9-1-1 and Dirty John.
Tumblr media
Kyle Chandler (Coach Taylor) After taking his final bow as beloved high school football coach Eric Taylor, Chandler moved on to the big screen. He had roles in 2011's Super 8, 2012's Argo and Zero Dark Thirty, and later joined Millie Bobby Brown in Godzilla: King of the Monsters in 2019.
Tumblr media
Taylor Kitsch (Tim Riggins) For five seasons, Kitsch stole viewers' hearts as troubled heartthrob Tim Riggins. He's admitted to feeling “complete closure” with his character's end — and ruled out returning for a reunion movie — and has taken on big roles in Battleship, The Normal Heart and Waco.
Tumblr media
Zach Gilford (Matt Saracen) Shortly after his status was changed to recurring for seasons 4 and 5 of the sports drama, Gilford made his big screen debut in 2006's The Last Winter. The Illinois native has since gone on to star in a number of indie films and scored a recurring role on NBC’s Good Girls. In December 2012, Gilford tied the knot with actress Kiele Sanchez, who he met while filming the pilot of The Matadors. The duo welcomed daughter Zeppelin Adele via surrogate in November 2017, two years after Sanchez suffered a devastating miscarriage.
Tumblr media
Minka Kelly (Lyla Garrity) After leaving Dillon, Texas, in season 3, Kelly went on to appear on shows like Parenthood, Charlie's Angels and Almost Human. Though she tends to keep her personal life relatively private, she admitted during a 2016 radio interview on Power 106 that she didn't mind hearing rumors about who she was dating. "I think it comes with the territory. It's a small price to pay for the extraordinary life that I live," she said at the time. "You just have to find the comedy in all of it."
Tumblr media
Jesse Plemons (Landry Clarke) The Texas native took on roles in Breaking Bad and Fargo following his breakthrough performance in Friday Night Lights. After popping the question to Fargo costar Kirsten Dunst in 2017, the duo sparked rumors of a secret wedding ceremony and welcomed their first child together, son Ennis, in May 2018. The Bring It On actress finally confirmed in September 2019 that they hadn’t walked down the aisle just yet.
Tumblr media
Scott Porter (Jason Street) Porter made a switch to the big screen after Friday Night Lights, appearing in Bandslam, Dear John and Music and Lyrics. He later starred alongside Rachel Bilson in Hart of Dixie. In 2013, the Nebraska native tied the knot with casting director Kelsey Mayfield, whom he met on the set of the sports drama series.
Tumblr media
Aimee Teegarden (Julie Taylor) The California native went on to star in 2011’s Scream 4 and Disney’s Prom the same year. Teegarden was named TV Actress of the Year by the Young Hollywood Awards for her work on Friday Night Lights before its final season. Since then, she’s become a vocal advocate for ocean conservation.
Tumblr media
Adrianne Palicki (Tyra Collette) Palicki portrayed Dillon football hater Tyra Collette for the first three seasons of the show, but didn’t return until the final two episodes after leaving the series. The comic book fan later went on to star in Seth MacFarlane's The Orville, where she met longtime boyfriend Scott Grimes. The pair announced their engagement in January 2019 and tied the knot four months later, only to file for divorce that July. TMZ reported in November 2019 that Palicki requested to dismiss her divorce filing.
Tumblr media
Brad Leland (Buddy Garrity) The Texas Tech graduate has made guest appearances on a number of popular series throughout his 40-year career, including Veep, Parks and Recreation, Last Man Standing and The Cleveland Show. He shares two daughters, Thea and Leah, with actress Freda Ramsey.
Tumblr media
Matt Lauria (Luke Cafferty) After leaving the East Dillon Lions behind, the Virginia native costarred in Parenthood and Shonda Rhimes' Gilded Lilys. In 2019, he joined Gina Rodriguez for the Catherine Hardwicke action-thriller Miss Bala.
Tumblr media
Michael B. Jordan (Vince Howard) Jordan scored a breakout role as an up-and-coming quarterback on the final two seasons of Friday Night Lights. Two years after the series finale, he was dubbed "a young Denzel Washington" by The Hollywood Reporter for his performance in Fruitvale Station. The California native later starred in Creed, Black Panther and Just Mercy.
Tumblr media
Jurnee Smollett (Jess Merriweather) From 2013 to 2014, the New York City native was a series regular on HBO's True Blood. Us confirmed in March 2020 that the actress had split from husband Josiah Bell after nearly 10 years together. The former pair share son Hunter, who they welcomed in 2016.

The Christmas Carol is a 1949 low-budget, black and white television special narrated by Vincent Price. Compressing Charles Dickens' classic 1843 story into a half-hour, it is stated to be "the oldest extant straight adaptation of the story" for television. It was originally produced as a syndicated production for airing on 22 stations across the United States on Christmas Day in 1949. It was sponsored by Magnavox and represented that company's first use of television advertising.  (Wikipedia)

Famous Muses & Groupies in Rock Music Pt. 26
MUSE: Carrie Fisher (full name Carrie Frances Fisher)
Carrie was born on October 21st, 1956 in Burbank, CA to movie star Debbie Reynolds and popstar Eddie Fisher. She has a younger brother Todd and TV actress Joely Fisher is her half-sister from Eddie’s marriage to singer Connie Stevens. When Carrie was 2 years old, Debbie and Eddie famously divorced after the latter ran off with actress Elizabeth Taylor. As a child, Carrie was a bit of a wallflower and preferred reading and writing over performing arts. But by the time she was studying at Beverly Hills High School, she began doing musical theatre like her mom—who also got Carrie her first stage role as a chorus girl in the 1973 Broadway revival of ‘Irene,’ starring Debbie as the title role. Two years later Carrie made her film debut as Lee Grant’s daughter in Hal Ashby’s Shampoo (1975), and two years after that she helped make sci-fi movie history as Princess Leia in George Lucas’ Star Wars (1977). Despite the huge boost of popularity from the blockbuster and the sequels The Empire Strikes Back (1980) and Return of the Jedi (1983), Carrie didn’t make a huge effort to form a career as an actress. In the 1980s she started focusing more on supporting roles in films like The Blues Brothers (1980), Hannah and Her Sisters (1986) and When Harry Met Sally… (1989), and penned her first, semi-autobiographical book Postcards from the Edge (1987). In the ‘90s, she moonlighted as an in-demand ghostwriter on scripts for movies like Hook (1991), Anastasia (1997) and The Wedding Singer (1998); and made appearances in hits such as Soapdish (1991), Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery (1997) and Scream 3 (2000). In 1990, Postcards was adapted into a movie with Carrie writing the screenplay. She published eight books including memoirs Wishful Drinking (2008) and The Princess Diarist (2016).
Romance wise, Carrie’s significant others were all over the place. In her books, she sardonically stated how her teen puppy love with her mom’s younger backup dancers and co-stars was ‘before they became gay.’ In Wishful Drinking she ~jokingly suggested that Shampoo co-star Warren Beatty was interested in deflowering her; and in The Princess Diarist she confirmed a longtime rumor of an affair between her and Harrison Ford during the original Star Wars productions. Carrie’s other SW cast member Mark Hamill also apparently got a make-out session with the space princess off camera at one point. Her first fiancé was Blues Bros. co-star Dan Aykroyd from 1979-81. The engagement bizarrely began right after Dan saved Carrie with the Heimlich Maneuver when she began choking on a bite of food during a dinner date. “I thought, ‘I better keep him around in case that happens again.’”
Folk-pop legend Paul Simon composed the score to Shampoo at the same time Carrie was shooting her scenes, but the two didn’t actually meet in person until three years later. In between Harrison and Dan, Carrie casually dated Paul on-and-off from 1977 to 1983. Apparently Paul was the only reason she didn’t marry Dan. In ‘83, Paul and Carrie did get married, but then divorced less than a year later, but then went back to dating sporadically again until finally separating in 1991. Phew. While they were together, Carrie appeared in the music video for Paul’s song ‘Rene and Georgette Magritte;’ and was the inspiration for his songs ‘Allergies,’ ‘She Moves On,’ and the title tracks of the albums ‘Graceland’ and ‘Hearts & Bones.’ In 1984 she experienced an ectopic pregnancy (holy shit), and Paul later talked about how he went through depression because they kept breaking up. Carrie’s infamous substance abuse of cocaine and oxycodone was at its highest when she was with Paul unfortunately, and was another big reason they evidently separated. Carrie also discovered that she was experiencing symptoms of bipolar disorder and she later claimed she was using drugs as a coping mechanism. On her marriage, Carrie famously said: “My father is a short Jewish man, and my husband is a short Jewish man. Go figure.” (Harrison’s also Jewish, but much taller, lol.)
In 2013, Carrie re-joined the Star Wars franchise with The Force Awakens (2015) and lost a record 35 pounds to get back into shape as Leia. But on December 27th, 2016, Carrie—age 60—tragically died mid-flight from a cardiac arrest caused by sleep apnea. Less than 24 hours later, Debbie died as well at age 84. This was only 5 months after Carrie completed her scenes for The Last Jedi (2017). She’s survived by her daughter, Billie (born in 1992), from ex-boyfriend, talent agent Bryan Lourd.

A Shining (Somewhat Shorter) Season at MC
Tumblr media
By Dateline Staff on June 30, 2020 in Society, Arts & Culture
The Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts has announced its 2020-21 season: a truncated version scheduled to begin in January when management hopes the center can reopen.
Tumblr media
The new presenting program, despite being only about 70 percent of a normal season, looks to be another great one. Highlights include:
Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, presenting two performances of Ailey’s landmark work Revelations.
Orpheus Chamber Ensemble with Branford Marsalis.
SFJAZZ Collective, playing Joni Mitchell songs
Celebrate Beethoven, in the 250th anniversary year of the composer's birth, features the pianist Christopher Taylor, performing all nine of Beethoven’s symphonies in four concerts; and Heartbeat Opera, performing Beethoven’s Fidelio in a modern-day adaptation.
Spiritrials, a performance piece by UC Davis alumnus Dahlak Brathwaite.
Ira Glass and Rob Reiner in the Speakers Series.
Staff, faculty and staff have a head start this week on purchasing new subscriptions, before they go on sale to the general public next week. Staff and faculty save 25 percent on all presenting program subscriptions and 10 percent on all individual event purchases. Students get half off all single ticket prices.
See At a Glance below for information on purchasing and renewing subscriptions.
The 2019-20 season came to an early close in March, due to the pandemic. For the new season, the Mondavi Center took a schedule that had been three years in the making and spent three months rearranging it.
“While we won’t gather in the Mondavi Center until next January, our new season is extremely rich,” Don Roth, the executive director, wrote in the season brochure’s introduction. “We’ll come together to celebrate great classical composers like Beethoven and Mozart, alongside heroes of our own time like Joni Mitchell. Artist friends like the Alvin Ailey dance company and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra will once again be in the house. And we will introduce you to newcomers like the exciting singer Nella, who won last year’s Latin Grammy for best new artist.”
Criminal justice focus
Tumblr media
Two shows in the new season deal with the criminal justice system, and both earn Roth’s nod as Director’s Choices:
Spiritrials — Addiction, religion and the law intersect in a court-ordered drug rehabilitation program, in this one-man show written, scored and performed by Brathwaite, offering what his website describes as “a timely exploration of the American criminal justice system.” The multidimensional play blurs the line between hip-hop and dramatic performance as Brathwaite “weaves through the autobiographical and the fictional, music and monologue, to examine his place in what appears to be a cultural rite of passage as a young Black male.” He graduated from UC Davis with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 2008, as an English major with a minor in dramatic art.
Heartbeat Opera’s Fidelio — Founded in 2014, this New York City-based company is breaking down traditional barriers to reimagine opera for artists and audiences of the 21st century. In this adaptation of the Beethoven work, a Black activist is wrongfully incarcerated, and his wife, Leah, in disguise, infiltrates the system to free him, according to the company’s website. But when injustice reigns, one woman’s grit may not be enough to save her love. Rob Tocalino, marketing director for the Mondavi Center, said: “We will take extreme caution in reopening, with the audience's health our top priority. And, if the public health situation does not allow a return to the hall in January, “then we'll do what we did at the end of this season, namely roll out cancellations and issue refunds or credits,” he said.
