By now, there's lots of people have heard about the internal CDC memos for all newly prepared manuscripts (like future scientific papers waiting to be published):

There's so much to comment on, and I'm seeing it all right now. What the state of science is. What this means for the queer community. All of that.

But fuck, I think I might genuinely start crying over this. As a transgender biologist, this feels like a brutally personal blow. I slowly accepted my gender alongside my biology education. The more misinformation that was spewed about "biological sex" by mainstream media, the more my professors, colleagues, and primary sources would casually drop information that proved they have no idea what they're talking about. I'm not an expert on sex determination, gender, or transgender biology specifically by any means. But my worldview has been crafted by my studies in genetics and molecular biology.

Engaging with this research helped me demystify transition. It helped me optimize my transition. It helped me explain how HRT and other steps of trans healthcare work to other people. And it helped me overcome my own internalized transphobia, and finally start transitioning, despite knowing I wanted to since my preteen years.

Who knows how enforceable internal guidelines like this will be. But its certainly going to scare a lot of researchers away from transgender healthcare and science in the coming years, and that breaks my heart.

There's a lot I can say here, but fuck. I just needed to vent for a moment. Fuck.

Interesting to look at how people in other countries say they would vote in the 2024 US presidential election. Here are the results of some polls I found:

Harris wins in most of the countries that are asked (37 out of 48). Trump wins in 10: Bulgaria, Georgia, Hungary, Iraq, Israel, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Russia, Serbia, and Slovenia. I found conflicting polls for Slovakia. Any other countries with polling data that I'm missing?

How much dialogue there is in the mainline Ace Attorney games

I made some graphs about how much dialogue there is across the "mainline" Ace Attorney games (AA1-AA6):

Overall, there's over 1.5 million words of dialogue across the mainline AA games (about 1,570,000 words, by my count)

Data source: I’m using a dataset that I put together pulling from the episode transcripts on the Ace Attorney wiki (which I did almost entirely via Python, but with a bit of manual cleanup). There’s bound to be some error resulting from that process, but the numbers should be pretty close.

i was telling mark i reckoned this au was a combination of a modern (late 2000s) au, human q au, college au, lawyer au. um. picard liking q back au.

basic gist is months ago beverly's husband jack dies after a nasty work accident. so shes attempting to press charges or sue or whatever the legal word for that is but the company jack worked at (ferengi stand ins) repeatedly pressures every lawyer she hires.

picard bumps into q one day and spills tea on him and q's like “oi dick watch where you're going i have to go to court” and picard's annoyed but he shrugs it off. then they keep bumping into each other after that

q starts cyberstalking picard on facebook on their 2nd meeting and hands him his business card at like. the 2nd or 3rd meeting

anyway, so the statute of limitation or whatever is running out on the whole case against this company and beverly's like "i wont be able to get justice for jack if i cant find a lawyer who's willing to stick with me" and picard eventually is like wait. hm.

he calls up q and is like i need your help

hilarity ensues ! yahoo !

other than. well literally every other change theres a couple of changes within the characters relationships with each other, like vash has only dated q and only meets picard after q does.

of course jack dying way later. it might be worse for wesley this way now that i think about it. sorry wes

The whole time I was watching the ‘Best of Both Worlds’ two parter I thought Picard’s Borg name was ‘Le Cuitous’ and I found it really funny the Borg let him stay French, and it was only when I had to look up drawing references for this did I find out it was in fact ‘Locutus’ and decidedly not French
