It actually physically pains me sometimes that I share a name with a well-known literary/mythological figure (as well as the fictional character AND historical figure I'm ACTUALLY named after but. whatever.) because I so so badly want to make jokes comparing me to that figure but that would require like. actually sharing my real name online which i REFUSE to do fucking ever. so yeah :/

Taking inspo from your post
Could you write about the mind control machine swapping the minds of these Decepticons and Autobots:
Shockwave
Knockout
Bulkhead
Dreadwing
Ratchet
Ultra Magnus
Wheeljack
Soundwave
Optimus
Predaking
Use a random picker or a wheel to choose who gets mind swapped with who
If you wanna take it further, then add the reactions of the unaffected members on the situation and their behaviour around the affected mecha
good luck and have fun
Ratchet < - > Shockwave
Bulkhead < - > Knockout
Soundwave < - > Optimus
Dreadwing < - > Predaking
Wheeljack < - > Ultra Magnus
Dear Primus the wheel understands COMEDY
Ratchet
His depth perception is GONE and he is NOT happy. He's even LESS happy that he can't CONVEY how distinctly not happy he is nonverbally because he can't even make facial expressions anymore, so he's taken to LOUDLY bitching even more than usual. Admittedly, the extra weight to throw around and the precision-designed clawtips are very useful, and he likes being able to pop out of the ground bridge and lay down cover fire without getting mixed up in the action. It may be giving him ideas for backup weaponry in the future.
Shockwave
The lack of his typical ranged weaponry is frustrating. That anyone should be content with bladed melee weapons alone is simply illogical. He also finds himself incredibly annoyed with the subpar earth-based altmode and all the unnecessary human designed internal kibble it comes with. He does not naturally emote at all, and he will not be starting today, sudden addition of facial features be damned. Gets pretty creepy to see Ratchet's face completely devoid of his usual grumpiness in favor of a completely blank look.
Bulkhead
By the Allspark he feels so small... Speed has never been his strong suit, and grace ESPECIALLY hasn't. Sure the drill and the buzzsaw have been useful when he needs to deal damage, but they're just not the same as good old fashioned Blunt Force Trauma™️. He gets frustrated pretty quickly. However, he does take a certain malicious, schadenfreude-filled delight in messing up the good doctor's finish. He might just take Miko off-roading before they trade back 😈
Knockout
DONT LOOK AT HIM, HES UGLY!! Knockout is going to spend this ordeal researching a cure while locked in a closet... Whatever closet is big enough to fit him anyway. All his usual hideaway spots are way too small for such a big lug like Bulkhead. Which means he's stuck out in the open... Looking like a clumsy, dull, green oaf... UGHH!!!! New plan, time to lock himself in the medbay and have breakdown work his magic with a rotary buffer. New paint job, new slimming decals, he's going the whole 9 yards to make himself borderline presentable. Whether Bulkhead wants it or not.
Soundwave
Soundwave is taking this very special opportunity to do a little trolling. Under normal circumstances, he's sworn never to let his voice be heard again. However... It's not really his voice, now is it? Besides, he doesn't have any of his remix equipment OR his visor screen. His normal means of communication are out. Though he does have Laserbeak to record him while he uses optimus's face and voice to say all kinds of horrible, blackmail-worthy slag that could completely ruin his public image whenever Cybertron gets restored. He'll definitely take requests too :)
Optimus
Optimus is a mech who typically garners a lot of respect, by virtue of his position, his demeanor, and his sheer size. What he is not used to eliciting, however, is fear. And it hurts just a little seeing his trusted allies shrink back when they see him. He has no face to give comforting looks. His voice is not his, especially not under so many layers of off-putting static. Even his big, steady servos, so used to pulling people up when they fall, are good for little more than striking. And that's without mentioning the monstrous tentacles he finds himself relying on. He feels terrifying, and he doesn't like it one bit.
Dreadwing
Dreadwing does not like the Predacons. He doesn't like the Predacons one bit. Call him stuffy with his moral code, but he's firmly of the camp that if something is dead it should STAY dead. The odd little experiments Shockwave concocted are no exceptions. They shouldn't be alive, plain and simple. And the fact that currently he IS one of the resurrected beasts and the brain of this disgusting undead thing is running around in HIS body is, quite frankly, unacceptable. He's going to be looming over the resident scientists with his new terrifying form until they find a way to fix this grievous error and return things to some semblance of normalcy.
Predaking
He feels... Terribly small. Especially in his altmode. Flying without needing to move your wings at all is quite a strange experience. As is having no face or limbs outside robot mode. He's just so compact and it's all very uncomfortable. He will admit, though, it's nice being treated less like an animal. He's yearned to be seen as an equal, true and proper, and this is about as close as he's gotten.
Wheeljack
Oh man, he switched bodies with the straight laced hard aft? Man, if Primus really has a hand in how things play out, he's one funny bitch. He's taking full comedic advantage of this situation, much to Magnus's chagrin. He's saying every swear he knows and breaking every petty rule in the autobot code that he knows isn't really enforceable. He's going on insane monologues about how rules keep us from descending into chaos in a horrible impression of Magnus that overshoots and ends up sounding closer to Sam the eagle from the muppets than anything. The kids are laughing their asses off. Bots who have worked with magnus are doing everything in their power not to laugh, with mixed success rates.
Ultra Magnus
Ulta Magnus does not care too much about being shorter or currently looking like a delinquent with no regard for anything other than his own personal amusement and some abstract concept of "coolness." ...Okay, he cares a lot and its very frustrating that people take a second to take him seriously again, but he cares much MORE about the delinquent currently inhabiting HIS frame and making a mockery of everything he believes in!!! It's unacceptable behavior and his body should be treated with the respect it deserves, not puppeted around for unfunny satire!!! He refuses to stoop to his level and mock back, so he'll simply stare him down until he gets the damn message.

HP Rec Fest, Day 16 ❄️
@hprecfest daily prompts running through Dec 31. Goal is to find lesser-known or underrated works, even by well-known authors, to feature here.
*
Day 16: A Fic that Made You Laugh
Make a Wish by @crowcrowcrowthing (E, 3k, complete)
Summary: Tom Riddle is wasting away in his hospital bed, far too young to succumb to such a terrible and mysterious illness. The only thing that gives him solace is the hope that football star Harry Potter might visit him in his final days. Why I rec it for this prompt: Tom's utter audacity in this fic is so true-to-character, and so funny. Also, I love that this is told from Riddle Snr's POV, which adds an extra layer of comedy (or horror, depending on how you look at it.) And! There are 3 alternate endings for this fic, and they each get better and better.
Do You Want Fries With That? (part 1) / Tom's Time Has Fry-nally Come (part 2) by jellybeantarot (T, 16k, complete)
Summary: Harry really needed some money, Dumbledore needed someone to dress up as Wendy, and Tom was the only one with the desperation to be Ronald McDonald. Why I rec it for this prompt: Harry and Tom as high school-aged fast-food workers is too good of a brilliant, absurdist crack scenario. Everything from the banter to the plot arc to Tom's SoundCloud rapper name had me in stitches. I can't continue describe this fic without ruining it — just go read it if you're in search for a good laugh.
*
Running list of recs:
Day 1: Favorite under 5k | Such a Noble Villain Day 2: Comfort Fic | In Somno Veritas | Ouroboros Day 3: Podfic | a taste so good (i'd die for it) Day 4: Fic with Art | A Soulmate Like You Day 5: A Non-AO3 Fic | The Anti-Midas Day 6: Unreliable Narrator Fic | Anabiosis Day 7: A Canon-Compliant Fic | In Your Soul is Sealed a Pleasure Day 8: A Canon-Divergence Fic | Thirst Day 9: A Rare Pair Fic | dust in your pocket | A Breed Apart Day 10: A Fest Fic | In Your Image Day 11: A Dark Fic | As Portioned from a Whole Day 12: A WIP Rec | Lover's Spit | Revolution of Configured Stars Day 13: A Fic >100k Words | One Year In Every Ten | if we were lovers Day 14: A Favorite Series | The Immortal Duties of Lord Voldemort Day 15: The Most Recent Bookmark | Creatures of the Dark we are Day 16: A Fic that Made You Laugh | Make a Wish | Do You Want Fries With That?

me: *diligently going through your a/b/o posts so that I can write that shit down for a story later*
You would think that endotypes are like a big deal in cinema but they're really not. Maybe for like comedies, there's a lot that is done with the stereotypical endotypes being played for laughs but dramas? Not really. There's no "secretly an omega" or "(endotype) isn't good enough because of their endotype" stuff. Like characters sometimes have their endotype defined but usually they don't matter in the context of the film unless the film revolves around it. I get the feeling there are a lot of coming of age stories around being a late bloomer for endotypes.
Now TV shows... that's a whole other ball game. Those characters get their endotypes explicitly stated if they're running long enough. But also it's just easier to get a read on what their endotype might be because you spend more time with them. This makes shipping discourse way more complicated and also way more interesting. There's occasionally "Should you be allowed to play an endotype outside your own" discourse that ultimately gets a lot of eye rolling.
Soap operas have a lot of plots around having a new endotype as well as a new face when actors a switched out, which adds an extra layer of drama. Kids shows have episodes about endotypes that are really dumbed down and sometimes are criticized for relying on stereotypes but ultimately are pretty wholesome. Some shows are famous for accidentally forgetting a characters endotype and changing it the next time it's brought up (*cough* supernatural *cough*) and others switch endotypes for fun (doctor who and star trek would have endotype switches for certain characters). Medical dramas inevitably have a heat/rut or a knotting gone wrong episode, and it's always a little funny.
You can buy sex toys that smell like different endotypes....

Halo Reloaded: Super-Soldiers??
In the somewhat grimy, perpetually buzzing mess hall aboard the UNSC Valiant, the usual suspects of Echo Company had convened around their sacred haven: a sturdy, albeit dented, metal table. It served as the unofficial repository for half-devoured MREs and dog-eared decks of cards that had seen better days. The omnipresent backdrop was a symphony of clinking utensils, half-hearted grumbles about the chow, and the ever-present, gentle rumble of the ship's engines—like a lullaby for weary soldiers.
At one corner of the table, Private Jenkins, a beanpole of a man with a rebellious tuft of red hair that perennially escaped his helmet, leaned in with a mixture of skepticism and awe. He brandished his spoon like a conductor's baton, orchestrating the flow of his incredulity. "Hold the phone, hold the phone," he implored, his eyes almost comically wide.
"Let me get this straight. We're talking about Spartans here—these are not your garden-variety grunts, but full-on, karate-chopping, judicial-system-skipping, laser-firing, half-machine super-detectives? And they wade through Covenant baddies like they're scrubbing bubbles at a bathtub gin party?"
Sergeant Hopper, the unofficial patriarch of Echo Company, grinned through his rugged, salt-and-pepper beard. His missing canine tooth lent him a roguish charm, or so he liked to think. "Jenkins, son, you're in outer space, fighting side-by-side with aliens, taking orders from computers with more sass than your grandma, and this is the stickler for ya?"Corporal Li, ever the quiet observer, allowed herself a small, knowing smirk as she cradled her tin mug of what passed for coffee. "Jenkins, love, you might as well believe in the Tooth Fairy too, while you're at it."
Private O'Reilly, who could always be counted on to add an extra layer of blarney to any tale, leaned forward, his voice a crescendo of enthusiasm laced with a thick Bostonian drawl. "No word of a lie, I seen it with me own eyes down on Harvest. It was like watchin' a ballet dancer with a bazooka, pirouettin' through a field of grunts, elegant but deadly, I swear on me mum's grave."
Jenkins, still wrestling with the audacity of it all, threw his hands up in mock surrender. "I'm just sayin', it sounds like a bit much, don't ya think? What's next? Spartans that can turn invisible and teleport?"
"Wouldn't put it past 'em," chuckled O'Reilly, slapping Jenkins on the back with a grin wide enough to park a Warthog in. "Imagine that, eh? Poof! And just like that, they're behind ya, ready to ruin your day."
Sergeant Hopper, sensing the moment ripe for a bit of grounding, leaned back with a creak of his chair that threatened its structural integrity. "Listen up, you jokers," he began, the laughter fading into a more somber timbre. "These Spartans, they're not just some comic book heroes come to life. They’re flesh and blood, the finest we've got, thrown into the meat grinder for the sake of us all. They’re out there dancing with death so we might just get to tango another day. So a bit of respect, maybe a tip of the hat, wouldn’t go amiss."
The table fell into a reflective silence, each man and woman momentarily lost in the gravity of their own precarious existence in this vast, cold universe. Jenkins fiddled with his spoon, his earlier flippancy giving way to a grudging respect.
"Yeah, guess when you stack it up like that, it’s downright noble," he admitted softly, nodding in a quiet salute to their distant, superhuman comrades.
As the banter resumed, weaving through the strains of interstellar conflict and the mundane gripes about life on board, there lingered a newfound appreciation among the group. In their raucous, irreverent way, they found solace in the shared spectacle of their existence—part comedy, part tragedy, all unfolding beneath the uncaring stars.

MONTHLY MEDIA: December 2023
And so the year draws to a close! Big movie month and hoping to carry that over into the new year.
……….FILM……….
Tumblr media
Turning Red (2022) Late to the game on this but it’s so great! When they talk about the ritual and that the words to the music don’t matter, I knew it was gonna lead to 4*Town playing a key role, but what they did on top of that was a genuine surprise and what takes this to the next level: they embrace the obvious setups but add an extra twist to the payoffs. So great.
The Fate of the Furious (2017) Okay I really love the idea of evil Dom so this movie moooooostly works. I’m still getting caught up on the series but even knowing that Han is alive, it’s still baffling that Shaw is embraced by the crew. He killed that whole hospital wing!
Tumblr media
Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (2001) These are of course Christmas films and I’ve noticed a transition in myself having not seen them for many years. I once liked the earlier movies for how faithful they were to recreating the books, but I now see how that the accuracy is at the expense of the movie’s pacing. Still really impressed with how well cast the core trio is even at this age.
The Santa Clause (1994) Nostalgia overwhelms my perspective on this but, as far as I can tell, this holds up pretty well. Starting Scott off as just...kinda the worst makes his transition all the better and I think is where Tim Allen is at his best. Plus a lot of really great sight gags which I don’t really see anymore (like the Denny’s full of sad dads).
Tumblr media
Confess, Fletch (2022) Fun and the sort of movie I wish got made more often. Not all of the humour really landed but the characters were engaging and the mystery lead to a lot of fun. Perfectly decent rainy day watch.
The Night Before (2015) A lot of ups and downs with this one. At it’s best it’s very funny but when it slows down it really grinds to a halt. I wonder if the hangover movies have the same challenge. Also 100% thought the steroid injection was insulin.
Tumblr media
Frosty the Snowman (1969) and Santa Claus is Comin' to Town (1970) Two Rankin Bass classics that really highlight the best that this production company could do.
Tumblr media
No Hard Feelings (2023) and Easy A (2010) The former was a pretty fun comedy that didn’t have a lot of comedy and the later was a comedy that I remember loving when it came out but not really connecting upon rewatch. Would I still recommend both? I think so, but only lightly.
……….TELEVISION……….
Tumblr media
Blue Eye Samurai (Episode 1.01 to 1.04) A good chunk into the season and really digging it. The characters are rich and layered and the show is doing a good job of exploring those layers in an engaging story. Plus the setting/time period allows for a lot of really great visuals. Definitely making the most out of the premise and stoked for the rest of the season.
Poker Face (Episode 1.08 to 1.10) Such a satisfying series. The majority of the episodes stand on their own but the bigger picture occasionally pops up, until the end of the season where it becomes the main focus. Just like TV used to be! Really beautiful wardrobe and set design, all the actors seem to be having a great time, and each episode feels thoroughly realized. Big fan can’t recommend enough.
Scott Pilgrim Takes Off (Episode 1.07 to 1.08) Came into it expecting something else and it’s gonna take some time to adjust to what it was. Gotta rewatch but really no complaints!
……….YOUTUBE……….
Tumblr media
Plagiarism and You(Tube) by hbomberguy Yes I did watch a 4 hour video on plagiarism and you should too. VIDEO
Tumblr media
when the director is overqualified for the job by CinemaStix I never really considered how similar the early Harry Potter movies but it all makes sense. VIDEO
Tumblr media
Stop Taking ANY Advice From TikTok by Extranet Shaquille A quick and light reminder that social media isn’t worried about truth or accuracy in any way. VIDEO
Tumblr media
The Marvelization of Cinema by Stories of Old This succinctly explains (to me, at least) why some modern remakes/sequels/reimaginings land and some don’t. In short you gotta ask if it’s purpose is to tell a story or maintain a brand. VIDEO
……….READING……….
Tumblr media
There is a Tide aka Taken at the Flood by Agatha Christie (Page 122 of 224) Picked up a bunch of old Agatha Christie books at a thrift store (partly because of the cool covers, partly cause I like mystery as a genre but never read it). Turns out this is EXACTLY what I needed right now. It’s been a while since I was this stoked to keep going with a story and this specific story feels like a great influence on the first Knives Out movie in that it’s centred around a lot of family drama vying for control of a deceased benefactor’s money. So stoked and gonna grab more of these when I can. Hey do you have old DELL copies of Christie novels you don’t want? Lemme know.
Tiger in the Stars by Zach Hughes (Complete) Okay so I picked this up while thrifting. There were DOZENS of these Laser Books and figured I’d try one and see what they were like. Turns out...not that great. Some fun ideas but moved at a snail’s pace and felt like there was a lot of padding. Something like this feels like a Goosebumps book (short, quick output, somewhat formulaic) but in comparison, I think I’d prefer R. L. Stein.
Tumblr media
Delicious in Dungeon Vol. 2 by Ryoko Kui (Complete) Again rereading as the series draws to a close and it’s still such a joy. These characters are fully formed right from the beginning and it’s such a good study in dramatic escalation as right now it still feels light and fun and I love it.
The Michael Moorcock Library: The Chronicles of Corum Vol. 1: The Knight of Swords by Mike Baron, Mike Mignola, Rick Burchett, & Kelly Jones (Complete) Love these illustrated retellings of the old pulp fantasy novels. Sometimes the limited page count leads to pacing that feels rushed and a scale that feels smaller than the grandiosity of the subject matter, but every adaptation requires sacrifice. Gonna keep going with this series and also try to find the original books!
……….AUDIO……….
Tumblr media
Cold & Blue All Over (Demo) by Blue Freezie (2023) A little punk, a little surf rock, a little rockabilly, and all a good time. Big fan of this album and hoping there’s more to come.
……….GAMING……….
Tumblr media
Neverland: A Fantasy Role-Playing Setting (Andrews McMeel Publishing) The Tuesday D&D crew is back in Neverland and sorting out this Elf problem! They’ve killed one and are on their way to killing some more. It’s more nuanced than that and you can read all about it here.
Oz: A Fantasy Role-Playing Setting (Andrews McMeel Publishing) The Mof1 D&D crew just robbed a funeral and started a riot! Who knows what’s gonna happen next.
And that’s it. See you in January!

atsv rewatch notes that i forgot to share
in gwen's flashback, mr stacy says "why wear a mask if you've got nothing to hide?" may parker says "no politics at the dinner table," and gwen pointedly says "thank you, may" to which may winks at her. does may know she's spider-woman?? that would definitely add another layer of angst if may thinks she's responsible for her nephew's death as well
gwen goes to visions academy in her universe too, evidenced by the logo on the drums she plays and the shirt her dad's wearing. so no wonder she could sneak her way around in 1610, but also, her school seems to be in chelsea (manhattan) not brooklyn? unless their band practice is just in chelsea and they stole a drum set from brooklyn lol
one of gwen's posters just says SOCIAL MEDIA lmao
the fact that in gwen's touching selfie of her and miles you can still see peter's sweatpants legs in the background from where he's passed out on the bus is so funny to me
65's police department is also called PDNY, so i guess peter's NYPD in 616 is the odd one out
captain stacy calls his partner "yuri"! i assume it's 65's yuri watanabe?? (edit, the director's commentary confirms this)
according to his arrest log, the vulture was a middle school secretary before being arrested lmao
i just realized we were going to get miguel's backstory and then gwen interrupts it because she doesn't care. so i guess my theory about miles being the only one who can interrupt others' monologues because he's an anomaly is incorrect lmao
i didnt realize before the helicopter crashes, she looked at miguel and miguel nodded, implying "i'll get them" for him to clear the way while she handles the people in the helicopter. i think her competence and flexibility are why he changed his mind on bringing her to the team, along with her dad ofc
a reactor pointed this out (Lupa from YaBoyRoshi) but when gwen is pleading to her dad not to arrest her, he and the colors behind him literally become divided with a dark blue line against white background. i interpreted this as a metaphor for his indecisiveness but it's also. literally. showing a thin blue line foreshadowing his choice. that's insane
Tumblr media
gwen saying "i don't know how to fix this." and miguel tosses her a watch after saying "yeah, well, join the club"—didn't realize this had two meanings lol, one inviting her to the society but also admitting he doesn't know how to fix any of this
i'm very impressed by how much they put into the spot on a rewatch, like the voice acting is excellent and they made him jiggle up and down going "this is real!" when he meets miles. it's so cute. like all the extra details just make it great
lmao when miles does his intro he shows himself growing like a head taller than gwen, and about as tall as peter b and noir?? ldkfjdlfk im sorry buddy you're not quite there yet
Tumblr media Tumblr media
during miles's intro he meshes the past year with his current fight with spot, and he narrates beating up bad guys with a bunch of shots of him punching villains—then it cuts to him failing to punch the spot; quickly followed by the spot and miles tied in a bunch of weird scenarios with the dimensional holes, including miles's face on ohnn's body, all played for comedy. foreshadowing baby
all of the jeopardy categories when miles hosts are spider-themed. "swingin' in the rain" "arachnidioms" "spider sense & sensibility" "the wide web world" "thwip it" and i cant read the last one
not only does miles's baby powder apology video have more dislikes than actual views (69 million to 10 million, yes, a 69 joke), a youtube comment also says "old spider-man didn't need baby powder" so the youtube comments section is wrong in every universe
in his mustache apology video, once again there are more dislikes than views (70 mill to 11 mill) and a comment says "i heard it was made from actual spider legs tho fr"
miles drew his friends over his subway mural and everyone's always in cool action poses EXCEPT PETER who also gets a shot of him sloppily eating a burger oh my god. it cracks me up he draws more of the other spiders but so little of peter lkdfjld. but this is sweet tbh i hope somehow the gang sees this in btsv :(((
at the counselor meeting: "you thought i could do something special. and now i think so, too. and the special thing i want to do is this. there are people out there who can literally teach me the things i want to learn. and they're not all in brooklyn" my heart hurts
when the spot destroys a building in the lego verse someone goes "does anyone have the instructions for this building??" lmao
when miles is hanging with gwen, you can hear him faintly say "no it's not the greek burger place" and we don't know what he's replying to but. what's the bet he told gwen how terrible peter's favorite burger place was on the bus back from alchemax and it's an inside joke between them
miles left his jordans in a random alley in brooklyn chasing after gwen!!! MILES!! (but then later when he's trapped in 42, they glitch back onto his feet???)
miles still swings using the same bounce-crouch he learned from peter im gonna die. you can see it esp when compared against pavitr and gwen when they face the spot
i thought i missed when miles picked up an empenada but i didnt, they literally just cut straight from jess mentioning them to miguel's narration then miles walking down the hallway with it. did miles ask jess+gwen+hobie to stop by the cafeteria first lkfdjlf.
miles bounces when miguel's lift starts to descend. he's so excited to meet him :(
peter says mayday took a crap and then he takes her offscreen but. he doesn't actually change her diaper. mayday was sitting in a dirty diaper that whole chase and somehow wasn't upset? or are we supposed to believe that large spiderweb mayday bounces off of (which we never actually see getting built between one shot and the next) was being used as a very quick one-second changing station? lmfao peter
sun spider says "miles, i'm a huge fan of your work" which. wow everyone not only knows about miles's situation but follows his actions in 1610???? wtf. also does miles have fans?? (aside from the og gang)
after seeing how frustrated/desperate peter gets to have miles hold may, i'm 100% convinced he knew when miles entered the society, ran back home to grab his baby, and came back to nueva york just specifically so miles could meet may, but it turned into a shitshow and now he just hopes THIS conversation can go well if he can make it happen like he imagined in his head. like aww, but also peter, he doesn't want to talk about your daughter right now, he wants to talk about his dad lol. right words, wrong time
and peter doesn't even bother trying to escape the webs miles traps him in, he just kind of hangs there angrily?? lfkjlf
the text around hobie's portals reads ENTER PORTAL with an arrow, NEXT STOP, EXIT STOP, i think MIND THE GAP, a weather report, and i think miles's name?? maybe also 616, miles's dimension?
when miles realizes he's in the wrong dimension, the same leitmotif plays from the first movie when he walks down the school hall realizing something was different after the spider bite
miles's terror and joy at seeing aaron in 42 is palpable. he will always love and miss him, he will probably always wish he could speak to and ask aaron for help again, but he will never forget being chased by the prowler, and aaron about to kill him on the rooftop. i think some part of him will forever be that kid scared of the person in the prowler mask—or at least wondering what that person is capable of, how far that person is willing to go to get what they want—which is a very fitting question considering he then faces another miles behind the prowler mask shortly after. i suspect in btsv he'll have to ask himself the lengths he is willing to go to, in this universe or the next, to save the people he loves. heartbreaking
i adore the telltale art style of earth-42, it's so gorgeous and noir-like, reminds me of the wolf among us

hello! i just want to say that i really had (and still am having) a blast reading your scarlet ribbons drabbles especially as a girl who loves being a girly girl! i absolutely love scarlet ribbons' personality and aesthetic that it somehow felt literally personalized instead of catered to a lot of people which touched my heart A LOT! and i really like the way you write, the details, dialogues, the build up of the plot UGH chef's kiss!! ngl i wasn't a mista girl before scarlet ribbons (idk WHY that man is fine as hell) but the way you characterized him made me even love him WAYYYY more than i had expected. i reread them like it was the morning newspaper and honestly, i have no regrets! it's literally free therapy with me and i love how it was laced (hah) with comedy, romance, and action because the writing is just THAT good. thank you so much for taking your time creating them, they really make my day so much whenever i read them. lots of love!! 🫶🏻🫶🏻
Tumblr media
PLSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS this makes me so happy you have no idea thank you so much for sharing 😭😭😭💖💖💖💖💖
i know that there are mixed feelings about giving the reader in reader-inserts a distinct personality but like,, i've always enjoyed the extra layer of dimension this gives. especially in the case of scarlet ribbons. i wanted to introduce a character that added something to the bucciarati's team, a sort of happy-go-lucky vibe despite it all. since fashion is an integral part of jojo, especially motifs (giorno's ladybug, bruno's zipper, etc) i knew i wanted to draw attention to that too. landing on the idea of a red ribbon felt right. vibrant, passionate, and capable of holding things together. i'm glad that your personality meshes with SR reader, i know that adds another layer of enjoyment to the reading experience <33
and yesssss a mista convert >:) he is hilarious to me. his awkward flirtations and the charm that comes from it oozes appeal. i love when men become a lil pathetic when in love. if his voice doesn't crack from nervousness when talking to you then is he really the one?
really, i appreciate hearing that SR has had a positive impact on you. it's a work that i consider to be 'home' in a way, i return to it in high and low moods alike. reading this made my heart soar. thank you thank you 🥺💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕

ooc;; okay, so i saw 'dracula: a comedy of terrors" last night and the verdict is .... um, not awesome. i always hate to rag on live theatre because as a fellow theatre-maker i know how hard it is and even in a show like this that i didn't particularly like i still respect enormously the talent of the cast, techies, and creatives that brought it together. so it hurts to say this was ... kind of unpleasant, but i can't say otherwise when so much of the humor was just punching down, on women, on unattractiveness, on mentally ill characters... even in its wack victorian sensibilities i can really confidently say that the novel was kinder and more progressive than this was. more detailed thoughts below the cut.
the big "yikes" for me was the (mis)handling of crossdressing roles. there were two actors, a man and a woman, who largely crossdressed for their roles, the man played mina and van helsing (genderbent femme) and so much of the comedy around these characters was about how ugly they were, how unattractive, how masculine or disgusting, or stupid... it was really quite sad to watch for me (though i will say the audience responded very positively to this humor, which only made me sadder...) it was a lot of man-in-dress jokes layered into a lot of pseudo-misogynous ideas about femininity and desirability. and that was bad in its own way, but it was extra "yikes" when one takes into account that the crossdressing woman (playing the seward-esque character, the demeter's captain, and renfield) had no equivalently cruel humor. there were no jokes about how silly it was to see a woman in trousers, no jabs at being unmanly or unattractive. there was humor, but all coming from generally more plot-based veins. and putting these two portrayals up next to each other it was very clear that the humor was based on an idea of femininity as lesser-than, derogatory. when a woman dresses as a man, it's aspirational, it's smart, it's cool, etc., but when a man dresses as a woman it is humiliating, silly, sick. masculinity is valued, femininity isn't. and add in the ghost of transphobia directed at transwomen that i could feel just hanging over the whole mina & van helsing characters, and i hope it's not hard to see why i felt uncomfortable with the piece.
since this is the #renfieldzone i think it's also my duty to talk about how renfield was handled. and. i mean. he wasn't, mostly. he was there, and absolutely the only joke he ever got was the bug-eating. like damn, we couldn't even let him have birds or rats too, huh? this show was a super condensed version of the story so lots of characters were cut (rip arthur, quincey, and most of seward's personality) so honestly i'm a little surprised renfield was here at all. he was largely useless to the plot because the actress playing him doubled as the seward-type and therefore the latter's import to most scenes meant renfield couldn't be there. (but there were many very clever quick changes!) since the play was also just... so absolutely cruel and demeaning to mina, there was no space for any empathetic mina-loving redemption for renfield, so he really just seemed to be here because... well frankly because the writer clearly had a lot of jokes about insanity they wanted to include. not going to waste space talking about them all, just know it was, as said before, a lot of punching down. the only other interesting thing about this renfield is that he is shown to be zoöphagous before ever meeting dracula, so in the age-old debate of 'did dracula make him do it or is he just like that' this play came down firmly on the side of He's Just Like That.
you may notice i keep mentioning a 'seward-type' character and not just a seward, and that would be because the doctor placed in the vaguely seward-shaped hole in the dracula plot is really nothing like seward and indeed has a different name to boot. he's called dr. westenfeld, and if you're thinking 'hey that's kind of like westenra' then that might be because he's lucy's father in this retelling. and also mina's? mina and lucy are sisters now, i guess. and also, they're effectively role-swapped. lucy is jonathan's smart, brave, modern-thinking fiancée and mina is the one turned first by dracula. because this show is, again, ruthlessly cruel to mina, she has no suitors, no close bonds beyond lucy, and gets absolutely no respect.
but what about dracula? he's... well he's hot. and a little bit of a bastard. and that's about it. no hairy palms, no crawling in his lizard fashion, barely any on-stage blood. honestly i have very little to say about him other than that i find it a little hard to swallow just how heavily the marketing of this show leaned into his queer energy when the full show really isn't that gay at all and so constantly equates dracula's queer-affected vampirism with promiscuity, mixing the signals and making it seem like queerness is promiscuity. not a great look.
this is already an essay so even though i have more miscellaneous thoughts i'll wrap it here. if anyone's curious about specific things, i'm happy to answer pointed asks.
so yeah. tl;dr just. i respect the craft of all the people that brought this together, i think the actors did great work with poor material, and the design and direction were solid, it's just... it's very hard to save a show with a fundamentally bad script, and that's what this felt like to me. good stagecraft, bad material.

sleepover for two 🍿🌙🧸
(a space ranger vlogs mini fic)
=========================
"Well, the heater is officially broken. Great."
Lance scratches his head as he tries to work with the van's less than amazing heating and cooling system. Keith crouches down next to him. "And there's nothing we can do?"
"It seems like it." Lance stands back up and pulls out his phone. Keith does the same, but heads back into the van. He plops onto the bed and sighs. He decides to add this little dilemma to their Ranger Squad Instagram story. Besides posting about their actual trips and outings, they post the other stuff like this. Followers love these things, apparently.
He takes a small video and publishes the story when Lance walks in and lays down next to him.
"I called a guy. He should be here tomorrow morning." Lance digs his head into the pillow. "Man, why'd the heater break down in the middle of the coldest week ever?" he groans. Keith ruffles the other boy's hair.
"I'm sure we'll survive."
A couple slow minutes pass when Lance jolts and turns over with a suddenly bright smile. "I just had the best. Idea. Ever!"
Seeing Keith's confused daze, he puts his hands in the air and continues. "Let's have a sleepover!"
Keith blinks. "Lance, we've been sleeping over in the van this whole time, in case you haven't noticed."
Lance shakes his head,"Sure dude, we've been sleeping in the van, but we've never slept over in the van! You know, like a proper sleepover! Like we did in high school."
"Like with more pillows and blankets, and stuff?"
Lance nods with excitement. "Yeah! And you know those fairy lights we bought a couple weeks ago, but never put up? Let's put them up! If it's gonna be cold tonight, why not take advantage?" Lance pauses. "We don't have to post anything about it either. It'll be just us."
Keith feels a smile creep onto his face. "Let's do it."
The Sun sets, and the two get ready for bed. They found some extra cushions and strung up the fairy lights. The harsh, white van lights are replaced with the soft, yellow glow from the small bulbs above the bedroom section. It's way colder outside than it was in the afternoon, but honestly with this set up, it doesn't bother Keith as much as it would.
Lance pulls on a faded red-sleeved hoodie with a sun graphic on it. The piece of clothing was originally Keith's, but Lance wore it once, and after that became official shared property. Keith wears his own navy blue hoodie, layered over his regular pajama shirt.
He crawls into bed, where Lance is already sitting with a huge bowl of warm, buttered popcorn. They have two foldable bed tray desks, one for each of them. Carefully, Keith sets them up so that they can put the laptop in the middle of the two tables. He slides three pillows on the wall so that they can rest their backs, have the comforter cover them whole, and are able to watch a movie in comfort. They shift into place, and now they're close. Really close.
Lance passes the bowl to Keith and opens Netflix.
"Whatya wanna watch?" He scrolls through the choices. "This one?"
It's some run of the mill romantic comedy, but it's probably the most perfect choice for a sleepover.
"Sure."
He clicks play, and the opening theme starts with a cheesy pop song. Yep, romantic comedy at it's finest.
More than half an hour passes. The popcorn bowl is swept clean with the exception of a few kernels. Lance's eyes are fixed on the movie. Keith moves a little, and freezing air creeps into the covers. He rests his head on Lance's shoulder. They've done this before, cuddling as they watch a movie or YouTube videos, but this time feels a little different. Maybe it's the lights, cozy arrangement, and the cold that's making Keith's cheeks turn pink. Maybe it's the fact that Keith really likes this. That he really likes Lance. It's probably a combination of all three.
"Hey, 'you cold?" Lance's voice is soft and sleepy.
"Yeah, 'little bit." Keith nestles his face into the crook of the other boy's neck. Lance slowly wraps an arm around Keith, pressing gently against his body. He melts in the newfound warmth.
"We don't have to finish the movie if you're tired," Lance says, but the notion is lost into silence. The two main movie characters are finally kissing.
"Nah, s'okay." Keith closes his eyes. "Too cold to move."
"Alright. I'll wake you when the movie's over then," Lance whispers, and Keith barely hears it.
(By the time that the credits appear on screen, Keith is fast asleep. Lance can't help but to press a light kiss on his forehead. Keith won't feel it, or remember it in the morning, and Lance is okay with that.)
(They end up sleeping together side by side all night long.)
