40 Tomarrymort Recs for 2024 — Longfic Edition (Part 3)

Part 3 of 2024 recs! See below for a round-up of some of the most engaging multi-chaptered works/longfics that I came across in this ship in 2024 🤍

As with last year, I found each of these fics, in their depiction of the ship, to be a fresh or surprising take on our familiar beloved characters of Harry and Tom|Voldemort, with an emphasis on underrated fics and/or fics that made me think about the ship in some new way. It's amazing to me that even after 20+ years of writing in this ship, there are still so many new themes and tropes and angles to explore. 

Criteria for this list: multi-chaptered, Tomarrymort-centric, with at least 1 update published in 2024.

Sent on a Ministry mission to fight for magic's survival, Harry goes back in time with two simple objectives: find and destroy any existing Horcruxes, and stop Tom Riddle ever evolving into Voldemort. Harry thus finds himself working alongside Riddle at Borgin and Burke's.

I mentioned that I'm on a mission to go back and comment on more fics, and was asked about recommendations. So I thought, hey, why not? I tried to stick to stories that I don't think get recommended often enough, but of course that's subjective.

Organized by sub-genre and then alphabetically by title. They're all some variety of Harrymort, just because I almost never read Voldemort-less Tomarry.

My Big List Of Underappreciated Tomarrymort Works On AO3.

❗This list is based solely on my own fanfiction preferences. I think all fanfiction deserves to be read and known, even if I, personally, don't include it in this list❗

As a very picky reader, I'm usually left dissatisfied with the portrayal of characters or quality of the plot even in works that have many kudos and bookmarks. I often find my attention straying from the text, even if I was interested in a work after reading summary or first chapters.

So, in this list of recommendations I will include fanfiction that, in my opinion, deserves more readers and recognition. And that is the reason why I'm setting the bar at works that have less than 5000 kudos on AO3.

I'm also not adding fanfics that fall under Plot What Plot/Porn Without Plot tag on AO3 here. Firstly, because I've never seen anyone read their porn based on anyone's fic recommendations 🤷🏼‍♀️. Secondly, because I don't find myself lacking high-quality, well-written tomarrymort porn.

Works will be placed in no particular order.

More Precious than Rubies by Strange_Soulmates (T, 44K, 6/6)

Harry Potter has recently escaped from his dragon-guarded tower. So has his fellow prisoner - the dragon who was enchanted to guard him. Harry's friend is missing, however, and so he sets off to assure himself of his well-being before he finds the person responsible for imprisoning them both. Accompanied by a stranger with a familiar name, Harry finds himself with more questions than answers as he slowly learns about the customs of dragons and the history of the dragon he befriended, the fearsome Voldemort.

Fantasy AU. One of the first tomarrymort fics I've ever read and instantly loved. Very fluffy and tender work, no hurt only comfort. Harry and Tom | Voldemort are just really sweet together in this one.

The Nature of Mating by Strange_Soulmates (E, 22K, 6/6)

Ron and Hermione have spent the last year searching for their missing friend, Harry Potter. Just when they think they have finally found an answer, they're swept away themselves.

Harry Potter is tired of waiting for Tom to finish making a move, and is determined to take the last steps of their courtship himself if that's what it takes.

Voldemort? Voldemort just wishes his little pest had better taste in treasure.

Sequel to More Precious than Rubies. If you loved the first part, you'll probably love the second.

Mary Magdalene by @vashhanamichi (E, 17K, 4/?)

Based on a prompt for the Daddymort fest: when Harry tries to destroy four of Voldemort's seven Horcruxes they turn into babies instead and latch on to Harry like ducklings.

The summary is self-explanatory in this one. Very enticing, very sensual work with dark themes. Mind the tags. Even though it hasn't been updated in a while I really hope it will be continued 🙏

Those Made of Lightning and Blood by A_Single_Cactus (E, 53K, 5/5)

A story in which Harry believes his soulmate bond is unreciprocated. Voldemort is his soulmate, but he's not Vodemort's. What he doesn't realize is that he's meant to speak his first words to Voldemort in a different time, not in front of the Mirror of Erised.

Time-travelling Harry AU + Soulmates AU. Falls under Tom Riddle Is His Own Warning tag (like most of the works in this list, to be honest). I really love the author's style in writing, the fanfic is a very easy read (I read it in one go).

The Reverent Son by A_Single_Cactus (E, 9K, 1/1)

When Harry decided to raise Tom Riddle as his son, he never could've imagined, one day, that the demon would want him. He never could've imagined his child growing to be a monster.

Lord, save him.

Church AU with demon!Tom. Mind the tags. Another work by the author of Those Made of Lightning and Blood. This fanfic comes close to Porn Without Plot category, but I still decided to include it because I really like this author's style.

In Your Soul is Sealed a Pleasure by mosiva (E, 22K, 2/2)

“So confident,” Voldemort murmured, “to be waiting here alone, this late at night.” He let a little menace seep into his tone.

The man merely smiled in return, cocky. “Oh, is this a bad area?” he said. “I hadn’t realised, what with the lack of streetlights and the not-so-distant screams. Silly me.”

Harry’s been sent back in time, but he’s still not worked out what it is about this specific moment that gives him the best chance to change things for the better. All he’s managed to do so far is talk to an oddly intense man in an alley and try not to get mugged.

Time-travelling Harry AU. The times of the First Wizarding War, with obsessive Voldemort and funny, charming, witty Harry.

A Light That Never Goes Out by @kippipies (M, 108K, 13/?)

Harry steals from the wrong people and finds himself left for dead with a bullet in his skull.

Except he doesn't die.

And now, he has an infamous criminal organization called the Death Eaters hot on his tail, determined to correct that mistake. Even worse, the group is led by a deranged kingpin named Voldemort, who seems to think trying to kill Harry is the best fun he's had in years.

Mafia | Mob boss AU. I've never thought I would enjoy a non-magical Harry Potter AU, because, for me, the whole point of Harry Potter is it's a magical world and a very important part of both Harry and Tom's characters. So if you're sceptical, like me, please give it a try – I promise you won't regret it. No "big strong alpha mafia boss falls in love with tiny little weak omega at first sight" in this one. An incredible story of slowly progressing obsession. The work is regularly updated.

What quickens me is the violence in thee by @i-dream-of-libraries (M, 16K, 6/6)

Harry is sold at auction to a man who is clearly in some kind of disguise - Lord Riddle isn't as charming as he looks, and the way he looks at Harry...

A bit of guilty pleasure fanfic for me. I just love works with dark obsessive Tom | Voldemort and a bit of old fanfic tropes...

Saving the World, One Blowjob at a Time by NixandShit (E, 13K, 1/2)

Harry goes back in time to stop everyone from dying and ends up in a weird Slytherin hierarchy and saving the world by distracting the future dark lord with sex.

Time-travelling Harry AU. This work also comes close to Porn Without Plot category, but, just like with "The Reverent Son", it has plot and I just reeeeally love the author's style in writing. So yes, I'm including it.

When Harry looks at Tom, he feels overwhelmed. There is a spark that makes him hopeful, the fear that nothing he does will save Tom from himself, and the horror at what his lies might lead to.

When Tom looks at Harry, he feels nothing. Until he does, and then Harry’s world starts drowning in blood.

Time-travelling Harry AU. The work by the author of "What He Grows To Be", one of the most popular tomarrymort works on AO3 (the amount of kudos is completely deserved). The author's style is incredible, the portrayal of characters is immaculate, the plot and plot twists are one of the most well-written I've ever seen! The fanfic isn't finished, but please support the author and read it anyway!

Extenuating Circumstances by Origin_Of_Symmetry (M, 87K, 2/2)

“You’re really quite a delight, Harry. I can’t believe I went weeks thinking you were useless and boring.”

Somehow, unwittingly, Harry finds himself engaged to Tom Riddle.

He’s not entirely sure how that happened.

Time-travelling Harry AU. A work full of funny scenes, smart dialogue and entertaining plot! The progress of Harry and Tom's relationship is portrayed realistically, and this is one of the most important things I value in fanfics.

The Sense of Self by SpitFire97 (E, 87K, 7/7)

This is the story of Death entrapping Harry Potter and Lord Voldemort in a series of reincarnations to undo the chaos the two of them have collectively caused. It’s a story of how two adversaries tangled in fate are forced to learn about themselves and through that, about the other; of them trying to work together for a change - if only, to pursue their individual goals.

Time-travelling Harry AND Tom | Voldemort AU. The character portrayal, the plot, the relationship between Harry and Voldemort – everything is portrayed perfectly in this work. I don't usually read works that have Death as a sentient being in them, because I usually find it frustrating when Death treats Harry Potter as someone special, almost bowing to him, and sends him back in time. So if you're, like me, wary of reading such fics – rest assured that this won't be a problem in this work. “I’m sure we will,” Riddle’s smile grew wider. Harry huffed deciding not to comment. After all, if one ignores the problem long enough, the problem will eventually disappear on its own.

Fairytale AU. Loosely inspired by Beauty and the Beast.

Some said he was once a man, cursed, and some that he sold his soul to demons and became one in turn. Others said that such evil as he could never have been human. That he was instead a nightmare, left lingering upon the earth a very long time ago.

Harry just knew it wasn't safe to walk near the Riddle House after dark.

Incredible. Just incredible. I have no other words for this masterpiece. I stayed up until 6 AM because I just couldn't put my phone down until I finished this work. This fanfic deserves to be published as a Harry Potter fan-book. The author of this work became a professional writer and, let's just say, I can see why.

The Devil's Playground by The_Fictionist (NR, 26K, 3/3)

AU. The Devil's Playground was the most exclusive nightclub in London, if not all of Europe. So, frankly, Harry wasn't entirely sure how he came to be bathed in its flawlessly concocted ambiance, with music pounding in his ears and an entirely delicious drink cold against his palm. But it had something to do with the deaths.

Supernatural AU. The work by the author of "Kisses Cursed" .

The Closing Of The Year by kcstories (T, 4K, 1/1)

After his divorce, Harry Potter moves in with Tom Riddle. So does his ten-year-old son Albus Severus, who tries his utmost to get used to his new surroundings and to the strange, sinister man his dad has fallen in love with.

A very fluffy, comforting work featuring post-war Harry, Tom | Voldemort and Albus Severus. I really like the budding relationship between Tom and Albus, love for Harry being a bonding point for them. All three of them are just so sweet together.

Vampire AU. A work by the author of "No Glory", one of the most popular tomarrymort works on AO3 (and one of my most favorite fics). Very sensual, enticing and hot work.

“Do you think he meant it?” Harry asked, once the professor was gone, tracing the gilded lettering of his own name on the letter he'd given Harry. “We're really Wizards?”

“It makes sense,” Tom shrugged, though he could hardly look away from his own letter, the proof of what he'd always known, in some pit inside himself, that he was something different from everyone around him, that he was something better. He'd believed the first priest that had told him the same thing, albeit it opposite in nature, that he was a devil. It had made sense at the time, just as this answer did. Anything that offered an explanation for his being set so apart.

“I'm glad it's both of us,” Harry said, green eyes somehow greener, the natural brightness in him turning incandescent. Tom had thought he'd known the answer for that before too, dull hours at Sunday service spent gazing at the sun illuminating stained glass portraits, thinking: angel. “I'm glad we're going together.”

“We'll always go together,” Tom said, knowing it as fact, unable to imagine anything different. Wherever he went, Harry was sure to follow. It'd been that way forever. It would surely always be that way.

Time-travelling Harry AU + Tom and Harry Grow Up Together AU. This story is Tom Riddle's POV and it's very well-written, it's an amazing study of his character, his sociopathy, his relationship with Harry. The great character portrayal+great plot combo I'm always looking for in tomarrymort work is present here. Please go read it, it has awfully little attention!

When Voldemort hits Harry with the Killing Curse in the Forbidden Forest, it fails yet again. Only this time, the problem is that instead of ending a life, it creates one.

“Harry Potter,” he says softly, tasting his prophesied killer’s loathsome name on his tongue. “The Boy Who Lived.” Come to die.

A pause. And then, he utters the fateful words. “Avada Kedavra.”

First, everything goes green.

Then, everything goes black.

When the Dark Lord regains consciousness, he hears before he sees, and the first thing he hears is crying. Why is there a baby crying?

Child fic, but not a fluffy, no hurt only comfort work – it has dark themes, as Voldemort is not exactly what one might call a great parent. However, the work is well-written, I like the plot and Voldemort is slowly changing as the time passes. I highly recommend this work.

For so many years Harry had been running. Hiding. Hoping that Tom had simply forgotten him. Or, thinking that Harry was just a beta, had decided to chase someone else.

He should have known better.

Living close to knockturn alley.

Even the shadows all have eyes.

Omegaverse AU. Another guilty-pleasure fic for me, as Harry in this one is kind of damsel in distress, but sometimes I just want to read something that is predictable in a good way.

I remember seeing so many “Harry potters blood must be liquid luck” jokes but I’m being so fr I actually would love that as a fanfic. Idk like Voldemort finding out his nemesis is LITERALLY made of luck?? He has golden blood?? (Vampire Voldemort maybe ?? 👀) he kidnaps him and keeps Harry locked away (lowkey like repunzal au ngl) and just drinks from him when he needs luck or smthn idk but he keeps Harry taken care of (like pampered) and Harry being the abused child he is just accepts it cus even if Voldemort doesn’t love him like a father (or maybe he does 😃) (creepy old bastard) atleast he takes care of him and Harry can be useful. Also he doesn’t have to die anymore so that’s a plus 🤷 but the liquid luck blood leads to more physical effects besides just the color of his blood. Like he’s unnaturally good at predicting things (he becomes one of Voldemorts generals maybe?) and just seems to always know what to do. Also due to these effects he doesn’t try and run (besides maybe at first) bc nothings telling him he has to, like his mind is perfectly content being Voldemorts arm candy and general and if he has more luck staying then why try and leave?? Anyways they eventually fall in love and rule Great Britain (and maybe the world but like as a shadow government type deal) as a power couple 😘 (also I hc that Harry came to be with Voldemort right around Hogwarts letter time bc that’s when he would’ve been most susceptible and mold able)

Summary:

Harry Potter is done.

He's been in the past for months now, working undercover as a poorly paid waiter in The Lounge: Britain's magical elite's favorite restaurant. He's more than ready to wrap things up, get the fuck out of 1953 and hug his godson again.

Enter, Tom Riddle: Dark Lord in The Making and Arsehole Extraordinaire. (And owner of The Most Fuckable Mouth Harry's seen since his days of shameless debauchery he was young.)

Impulse control has never been a strong suit of his, and this mission is proving to be the most difficult one yet.

wip, 1.6k, tomarry, seer!Harry, time travel

(or) Harry is a point between very observant and very tired with life. Oh, and he keeps accidentally predicting the Future (chaos ensues).

"...and you are absolutely, completely, utterly sure that you have no Seer blood in you."

"Yes."

"Are you sure?"

"Malfoy, God's be good! Yes! Yes, I am sure." When he saw the blond's lips move to open again, he added: "Asking again will not change my answer, shut your mouth."

"But Harry, what if someone down the line was a bast–"

"Continue that sentence and the next time you're walking drunk and trip over your robes I will let you fall to your death in the Moving Stairs." He spat. "Go on."

"How... how did you know! I didn't tell anyone it happened!" The godsmacked look on Abraxas face did something funny to his insides, a thought between a laugh and dispair at this silly blond boy who had simply been too drunk and couldn't look behind him to notice Harry had been following him the entire time that night to make sure he got back to his dorm and safe to his bed.

He didn't comment.

Abraxas groaned in an untimely, entirely inelegant way.

"You must be the devil. I get why Tom likes you so much."

Harry made a funny face, feeling conflicted. He didn't need to know exactly how much Tom Riddle liked him. He had enough at one glance, thank you very much.

Things had gone to shit one fine Tuesday afternoon when Falco Lestrange had almost killed all his Slytherin and Ravenclaw peers in a Potions Classroom.

The boy had been distracted, stealing glances across the tables and admiring the way the light hit the hair of a pretty Ravenclaw witch, where it cascaded in lustrous curls down her back to reach her waist. Her dark skin shone in the afternoon sunlight, and Falco was thinking of the best ways he could present his courting gifts, possibly in the Courtyard surrounded by white flowers, assuming they be received—.

His hand slipped, and instead of stirring his potion twelve times clockwise after simmering for twelve minutes, he stirred only eleven before he picked the Angel's Trumpet flower just after adding the last uneven cut pieces of Bloodroot.

His hand was about to let go of the flower with distracted movements when another, smaller, colder, closed around it.

He was startled out of his trance and he let out a grunt of discomfort as the cold hand closed more firmly around his, and that noise attracted the attention of his classmates.

When he followed the hand up an arm and up a body he found Evans face attached to it, black and white curls bouncing as the owner tilted his head towards him.

Before he could pull away in disgust, the boy hissed at him.

"What the fuck do you think you're doing? Are you trying to kill yourself? Kill us?"

He stared uncomprehending at the boy before him, their hands still clasped.

When Slughorn hurried over, yellow robes flowing and catching on the corners of the adjacent tables, he took one look at the putrid color of the potion, another back at the cutting board where the uneven pieces sat inconspicuous and a last one at the flower crushed in between their hands, before he waved his wand dramatically over Falco's unfinished potion and vanished it to the void without further ado. His big blue eyes were open wide, a struck expression graced his round face.

"You almost killed us all!" He exclaimed, as flamboyantly as usual, despite the gravity of the situation. "One touch of a whole petal in the potion and the explotion would have taken us all out! And if not, the fumes from the poisonous plant would have done us in!" Evans had finally let go of his hand, green eyes hard. "This is a NEWT level class! Mistakes like this are ground for expulsion Mr. Lestrange!"

Falco's mouth opened and closed, no explanation gracing his lips.

"If I may, Professor" the blasted boy at his side dared to utter "I think it was an honest mistake." He cast a glance at Falco, venomous green eyes piercing him down to his soul. The boy flinched. "We can't all be potion prodigies. Specially when our mind is not in the classroom, and instead it's down in the Courtyard."

Falco turned incredulous eyes at him.

 

And that was that. It was the day the rumour started.

Harry Evans, the fucking seer of the House Slytherin.

(What they didn't know was that Harry had been sitting in one of the windowstills facing the courtyard with his sketchbook in hand when Falco Lestrange had walked in, hand in hand with a Ravenclaw. Harry didn't know her name, but could guess from the way Lestrange's eyes darted from side to side and nervously fixed his hair every few seconds that she was his betrothed, or was about to be. Harry guessed the later, or else the lad wouldn't be so anxious to be in her presence.

The boy seemed to catalog every nook and cranny of the inside yard, from the vines creeping up the walls and the statues, to the fountain drizzling water in the middle, to the few students sat scattered around.

He was thinking about it, Harry knew. His hands kept twitching towards the lapels on his robes, only to move out of the way at the very last moment.

Ah.

The proposal was to be carried out at a later time, it seemed.

He sketched them like that, standing side by side and smiling shily at each other with blushes high up their faces.)

It was not the only instance, sadly.

There was that one time, when one of the more damaged, older moving stairs had graced the path of the sixth year Slytherins on their way back to the Dungeons and Harry had simply taken one look at it, remembered the disgraceful fall he'd had on his fourth year where his leg had been trapped up to his hip and commented loudly from the back of the group:

"I wouldn't step on the second to last step, if I were you." He had nightmares about being trapped there as the old staircase moved and disappeared to wherever it went to when it was not in use.

But as things were, here he was a new student of questionable origins and no name to himself to back his claims, and every Slytherin simply dismissed him as if it had been an annoying insect buzzing by and not a wizard speaking.

Until, one of the boys walked to the second to last step, and his leg fell right through.

"Told ya" he muttered to himself, as he waved around the crowd and jumped the last couple of steps, not looking back.

Or that one time Harry had slapped the tart out of Orion's hand when he had been about to take a bite.

"Don't!" He had said.

And that was that.

(For the next long hours, the majority of the population of Hogwarts had been in line seeking treatment in the Hospital Wing for a horrible stomach bug.)

(Not Orion though.)

Or that time when Harry had predicted that Greengrass would fail her Care of Magical Creatures practical exam, looking at her with sorrowful eyes.

Or when he correctly gave books and trinkets and supplements to people before they even knew they needed them.

"I have an iron deficiency!" One student muttered excitedly at another. "Evans gave me booster the other day and recommended I speak to the Matron! And he was right!"

"One time I failed a Transfigurations essay and before I could tell anyone about it he approached my table in the library and dropped a whole stack of books. Said they might be of help!"

Or that one time with the tea leaves—.

By the time Harry stopped a Hufflepuff fourth year from being impaled to death by a stray broom free falling from unknown heights and close enough to the outside walls of the castle to not be noticed before it was too late, Tom Riddle had taken to watching the boy from the shadows, dark blue eyes following his every movement.

He moved around life as if it was a dance to be had, coming close to other people and pulling back in a symphony only known to him. The skips and turns of his steps unpredictable, sometimes even brisk but non the less graceful, when he seemed to go one way but change directions at a moments notice, something dark passing through his green eyes.

He looked at situations backwards and from a distance, head tilted in a curious way before his green eyes lit with recognition and he could, to a point, predict entire scenes just from one glance.

The way he looked at people, haunted and knowing and compassionate, like he knew each and every secret lodged in their souls.

Like he knew Tom's secrets too.

The first night after the feast, Harry Evans had stared long and hard at Tom from across the Common Room, green eyes unreadable and face not betraying anything. It had been going on for twenty minutes straight, seemly not noticing the other students stares, before furrowing his brows and quietly nodding to himself.

Tom had dismissed him after that, thinking the boy had probably noticed the hierarchy of the snakes and deemed Tom on top of the food chain.

But strange things seemed to happen around him. More importantly, didn't seem to happen.

He had an uncanny ability to predict the future, it seemed.

The rumours started and spread around Hogwarts like wildfire.

Slughorn was a terrible gossip, and even the portraits learned of Harry's careful consideration of the world.

It was not without consequences.

This beautiful, beautiful boy could be an asset.

It didn't help that he was pretty, with his wide green eyes and honey colored complexion. His curls where mostly black, except where they were not. White had steadily but surely been taking over the parts on the back of his neck, and the hairs framing his face. Tom often wondered if it was intentional, or if he'd had it since birth.

Tom wanted him for himself.

And another man wanted him gone.

(OR) we made universes out of bitten lips and broken hands on AO3 (68k, 10/13 chapters, seer!Harry, fluff and angst, teenage drama, friendships, Harry gets adopted like three times in a row).

Hi! Do you have any favourite tomarry fics?

I've been going through your blog and read your stories and I relate a lot to your posts about harry and tom. And I loved your portrayal of their character in your stories. I've read so many tomarry fics but could never really understand or accept the usual fanon tropes. But reading your stories solidified my fixation on tomarry.

It felt like something finally clicked and my wonder just grew more and more as I continued reading them. Loved both of your tomarry fics<3

ills of murder by EclipseWing - WIP

time travel au wherein harry goes back in time and actually does full on try to murder tom. this makes him look insane and naturally tom is immediately obsessed. i love how bold and aggressive harry is in this and the way tom just rolls with it! EclipseWing's tight plotting is a joy to experience and the story hooks you in from the start and takes you on a thoroughly enjoyable ride with harry and tom.

before they convinced you life is war by EclipseWing - Complete

superhero au with meticulous and engaging world building threaded through a rollercoaster plot. i cannot overstate how perfectly our familiar wizarding world is translated into super-powered mutants. they way tom and harry clash and relate to each other is marvellous. the ensemble cast is perfectly done and everything is tied up neatly by the end.

in your soul is sealed a pleasure by mosiva - Complete

a very enchanting depiction of power bottom voldemort with a hint of him being a masochist as well. voldemort and harry's relationship blooms beautifully, they connect and argue in equal measure and the conclusion is both heart-warming and satisfying.

remarkably in character sub voldemort and a very compelling and unique take on voldemort's relationship with his new body that i have not seen before. this fic made me want to do my own take on sub voldemort, so not only was it lovely to read, it was downright inspiring!

Tom Riddle and the Quest for Vulnerability by lejf - Complete

this fic is like a warm balm to me personally. harry is powerful and (mostly) in control. older, and not nearly as morally circumspect as he'd like to be, he falls into bed with a much younger tom in the most deliciously filthy way possible. tom is vulnerable but still very much himself. i re-read this periodically.

For tomarry shippers, this fic is the equivalent of jegulus shippers' Crimson Rivers fic. Lots of banter and tension between Harry and Tom, but also maturation and character growth! Definitely a wip worth keeping track of!
