So I've been thinking a lot about the tally

I think it's safe to assume that these numbers cover only their 3 years of high school - Hinata says later on that he hasn't counted his beach volleyball games yet. Meaning, they got into roughly ~2200 competitions over the course of three years, though not all of them were volleyball games (they also compete in races, and other silly things like who can eat faster and etc.)

(It's a little unclear whether the tally only accounts for wins when they're competing against each other, though - I'll assume that's the case since it'd be kinda unfair otherwise lol)

BUT. Here comes the interesting part. This is their updated tally, as of 2022 (the All-Stars special match):

According to the Haikyuu wiki, the Black Jackals vs. Schweiden Adlers game happened in November 2018. The All-stars match happened in August 2022. That's about 45 months later - meaning, they got into another 1852 competitions in the span of almost four years.

But, but.... before, during high school, these morons saw each other almost every single day. They competed on almost EVERYTHING, and averaged a total of 2 competitions per day.

Now, though- they lived in different cities during Hinata's first year in the V.League, and after that Kageyama moved to Italy. As of 2022, Hinata is back in Brazil playing for Asas São Paulo. Meaning, for the better part of these last 4 years, these two weren't even in the same country.

And yet they kept the tally going, counting almost religiously. So that's 1852 competitions over 45 months - average of 1,37 competitions per day. Meaning, on average, Hinata and Kageyama must've talked to each other at least once a day, for four years, to update their tally.

TL;DR they probably talk to each other regularly and that makes me so happy. Even though they're not in the same team (or even the same country) they still keep thinking about each other every. single. day.

Rolling over on the couch you reach over to grab your phone. Shutting off your alarm you place your arm over eyes to shield your eyes from the bright sunlight. After a few mins you finally get up and walk down the short hallway to the bathroom. After using the bathroom and brushing your teeth you head to your son's room to wake him up. The room was covered in in MSBY merch. He was wearing a sakusa 15 jersey to bed and it left a smile on your face thinking about the tickets you bought him for his birthday. He had olive hair and (your eye color). He didn't talk much, but when it came to volleyball he couldn't stop talking. It hurt knowing that you prevented him from playing but you did it for his own good. You didn't want him to neglect others because "volleyball came first".

"Isa baby it's time to get up," you said as you walked in to his room. The young boy groaned as you opened the blinds for his window. You grabbed his glasses off his night stand and put them on his face as he yawned. "happy birthday honey. I have a present for you let me go get it." For 10 years now you and Isamu have been alone but content with each other. After highschool you moved away to Tokyo soon after you found out you were pregnant. You couldn't let the father stay he was just gonna be focusing on Volleyball anyway. That's all he did your whole relationship, he even told you. Volleyball comes first then you, i'm sorry. He wasn't sorry. No one even tried to reach out to you after you left, but it's fine you gave birth to the sweetest boy and today he was 10.

Walking back into the room you see he was sitting on his bed waiting for you to come back. Everyday he looked more and more like Ushijima. The stoic face watched you walk in with a small box in your hands. Sitting on his bed you you gently place the box in his lap. Most people wouldn't be able to tell that his emotions changed. He doesn't move his eyebrows much nor his mouth, but you could see his eyes light up at the small gift. You had been saving up to get him a nice gift this year. He slowly took the lid off the present a moved the tissue paper to get inside. He pulled out two white tickets that had said "MSBY Black Jackals VS Schweiden Adlers" for the first time in a long time you saw your son truly happy. Not faking it to make you feel better but truly excited. He started hopping in place on his bed at the tickets.

"thank you mama," he had said as he leaned over to hug you. His happiness suddenly stopped and he looked up at you with worry on your face. "mama these must have been expensive," after he said this you shushed him because you knew exactly where this was going. He was a very smart child, and as amazing as that is it sucks because he's more aware of his surroundings. There was no doubt that sometimes you struggled to make ends meet. Working two jobs, having a son, and you were finished college. I mean you sleep on the couch for God's sake.

"don't worry about that. Everything is okay, and I wanna treat you! Now go get ready the game starts at two"

You hadn't known much about the two volleyball teams playing. Only knowing the players your son talked about. Those being Miya Atsumu and Sakusa Kiyoomi. You remember Sakusa from high-school, and you loved flexing that on your son. Ushijima and Sakusa had been aquatiences in highschool, but you've only ever talked to the curly haired man once. You were getting giddy just thinking about seeing your son's face when he got to get his jersey hand signed by the wing spiker.

You wanted Isamu to enjoy his childhood. He already had to go through a lot. Even though he didn't know who his father was he was very much aware that the man was not in his life. Anytime he brought him up your face would contort not wanting to talk about the man. You would keep who his father was a secret till you were ready, and that definitely wasn't right now. Plus, it was a mistake and Ushijima didn't know. Ushijima took your virginity on his 19th birthday, and it was perfect, but he went back to his volleyball self the moment the two of you woke up the next morning. He was leaving when you woke up, and just said bye and kissed your cheek. When you asked were he was going he said he had practice. No he didn't actually. You guys had graduated and there was no more Shiratorizawa team for him, but he would continue to practice everyday. Never taking a break. Huh, screw him for getting you pregnant after your first time. What are the odds.

"mom are you okay," snapping back into reality you realized the water was still running and you've barely gotten through the dishes. Fuck the water bill is gonna be high.

"yeah yeah im fine, are you ready?" You said beginning to get back to the dishes.

"yeah, i'm really excited because not only is it MSBY but the Adlers too. I can't wait to shove it in Aki's face at school on monday. He loves Ushijima so much," He started chuckling at his evil plan.

"wait Ushijima?" You asked. Please dont be your Ushijima. Please don't your Ushijima. Please, please, please.

"Yeah Ushijima Wakatoshi. He's so cool. If i didn't like Sakusa so much he would be my number 1... mom are you listening?" You felt you breathing start to pick up. It's to late to back out now. You were 29 for god's sake you can face him, but your anxiety wouldn't leave. Not wanted to worry your son on his birthday you tried to hide you anxiety.

"yeah, I just- I think I went to school with him," Isa's face lit up at that.

"really!! Can you introduce me," His smile was wide when he said that. It was rare to see his smile that big, normally just opting for a small smile without showing his teeth...just like his dad.

"maybe yeah, if he remembers me," oh he definitely does. "can you start the car for me while grab my stuff," you hand him the keys trying stop you hand from shaking as hard as it was.

The first time Bokuto used a pick line on Akaashi was when he asked him out. It was at the end of Akaashi’s first year after practice.They’d been doing extra practice when Bokuto started getting really quiet. And after a year with him Akaashi knew that a quiet Bokuto was never good. A quiet Bokuto meant he was in a slump or he was over thinking something. The second one didn’t happen often.

It couldn’t have been a slump because his spikes were fine. So he must have been overthinking something. But Akaashi couldn’t think what it was. He was so deep in thought that he hadn’t noticed when Bokuto joined him by the door. He was very fidgety now and looked nervous.

“Akaashi?” Bokuto asked in an uncharacteristically quiet voice.

“Yes Bokuto-san,” he said looking up at him.

“It’s trash day,” he said.

“Yes?” At this point Akaashi was pretty confused.

“So… CAN I TAKE YOU OUT!”

Akaashi jumped back at the sunden loudness. He stood in shock for a bit and Bokuto started to look worried. Suddenly Akaashi burst out laughing. And that was the story of how they started dating.

It quickly became Bokuto’s way of cheering Akaashi up. If Akaashi looked sad, Bokuto would tell him the worst pick up line he could think of. Even years later after they graduated Bokuto made sure to tell him a monthly pickup line. Akaashi going to uni and Bokuto joining the Black Jackal’s meant they didn’t see eachother often. Akaashi tried not to let it get to him, but that was easier said than done.

Bokuto had been staying with Akaashi over the few days off he got for christmas. So when he had to leave Akaashi was there at the train station with him. He kept reminding himself he’d only be in school a little while longer, then he could get a job and find a place. He could move closer to Bokuto, and he’d be able to take vacation days. Again, he was so lost he thought he jumped when Bokuto said his name.

“Hey Keji? Can you kiss me so I can tell my friends I was kissed by an angel?”

Akaashi leaned up and kissed him just as the train pulled in. When they seperated Bokuto waved goodbye and entered the train. A little while longer, he thought.

At the end of the Black Jackal VS Schweiden Adlers, Akaashi and the others all went to congratulate their former team mates. They had all changed since highschool, but it still felt the same. The bickering, the yelling, it was all so nostalgic. He decided that now was the best time, so he carefully slipped something into Bokuto’s pocket.

Since everyone was here they decided to go to dinner to catch up. All of a sudden Akaashi tripped. “Ow,” he said, “Koutarou, do you have a bandaid?”

“I might!” Bokuto announced fishing through his pocket. Then he felt something strange in his pocket.

At this point everyone was standing around them, Akaashi may have told Tenma Udai about his plan. Tenma decided to tell the others so they wouldn’t offer up bandaids for Akaashi. Bokuto pulled out the strange object and his eyes widened. Akaashi cleared his throat and took the ring from Bokuto getting on one knee.

“Because I scraped my knee falling for you.”

Bokuto didn’t exactly give him a verbal answer, he just jumped on him. They fell back onto the pavement and started laughing while their friends clapped and cheered. He was pretty sure he heard Tsukki call him crazy. Maybe he was… no scratch that. He definitely was crazy… Crazy in love.

OKAY. THE MOVIE WAS FUCKING PHENOMENAL!!!!!! it genuinely reminded me of how much i loved this manga and this WORLD that furudate created :’) haikyuu!! was the very first anime i watched, the first manga i read, and also the very first manga book that i collected <333 so Literally it’s me and haikyuu!! against the world 🙏🏼

ALSO!!!!!! IT WAS SO BEAUTIFULLY DIRECTED??????? i never had a movie Give me tension during moments of pure chaos……. the scene where it’s literally kenma’s POV from his actual eyes… seeing him scanning the are, have heavy breathing, looking around manically like ??? REAL FUCKING CINEMA……….. also the movie was so funny for no reason like djfjfjfjf i forgot how GENUINELY hilarious haikyuu!! is 😭😭😭

i thought it was cute how kenma centric it was and honestly my FAV panels aka knife to the throat kenhina + kenma caging hinata (which was so sick i love that they stopped the music for a moment ? i think i don’t remember) and ALSO??? the music stopping suddenly when kenma tells hinata to stay interesting and hinata being frightened by his aura??? ive got a REAL question regarding the upcoming haikyuu movies:

do you guys think the two movies will be able to complete all of haikyuu???

since the first part is supposedly going be the battle of the garbage dump arc, then that means the second movie would be about the kamomedai match. ending the nationals arc.

but where would the timeskip come into all of this? because there's no way we can just skip hinata's beach training in brazil arc, nor can we skip the MSBY black jackals vs schweiden adlers match. AND we still have the second timeskip with the japan national team vs argentina.

so do you think the timeskip will be animated at all?

i was just thinking about it since it seems like the first part will be solely nekoma due to the trailer, but i could be wrong.

Sakusa woke up that day seeing double. Not because he was dizzy (tho it did make him feel dizzy). But because he felt like he was in two places at once.

He was in his bed in his own apartment in Tokyo.

But he was also somewhere else. Somewhere he doesn't recognize. An apartment filled with polaroid photos and plotted plants. And an arm snaking around his waist.

He looked down. There is no one there. Because Sakusa lived alone. Always had ever since joining the Adlers.

But at the same time, he was not alone. There was someone with him. On the bed. Sleeping soundly beside him.

He carded his hand through soft blonde hair. He didn't feel anything but  air. But he swears he had touched it.

The man beside him stirred. "Omi-kun," he mumbled.

And Sakusa felt a surge of affection for this man, tho he didn't know who he was. But he seemed eerily familiar. Like a distant past.

His phone alarm blared and he didn't have any more time to think about it. He got out of bed and got ready.

He had a match today.

The Adlers vs. Jackals match was one filled with familiar faces from high school.

When he saw Miya Atsumu, who he vaguely remembered from training camp, he was surprised at the newly platinum blonde dye rather than horrendous pissed-yellow hair he had back then.

Then he remembered the man from this morning. Like a ghost from a past like or a different universe altogether.

It couldn't be... right?

He shook his head and focused on the game.

He stepped up to serve. He hit the ball. Miya, on the side, digs it easily.

He hadn't meant to aim there specifically but he couldn't stop staring at Miya and he guessed the ball had followed where his eyes were trained.

A back-up setter stands under the ball.

He set it to Hinata and Hinata scores.

"Was that serve especially aimed at me, Omi-kun?" Miya taunted across the net, all smug and irritating. "Didja see how easily I picked it up?"

Sakusa flinched at the nickname. It had been the same one he heard earlier this morning.

"Why are you calling me Omi-kun?" He asked in genuine curiosity rather than annoyance (tho there was still some level of it, rest assured).

Miya shrugged, not expecting to be taken so seriously. "I mean, we know each other from high school, right? So we're basically friends.

SO it's weirder if I just called ya Sakusa like some stranger."

Sakusa frowned, not entirely seeing the logic. "Don't call me that."

"Whatever ya say, Omi-kun."

At the next rally, Kageyama set the ball to him and he hit with a spin. The ball flew past the blockers and landed inbounds. Adlers scores.

"Geez, Omi-kun! That was gross. Just gross!" Miya yelled from the other side.

"Excuse me?!" Sakusa bristled.

"It's a compliment really," Miya assured him.

The MSBY captain walked by and said, "Well, you really made it sound like an insult."

The interaction gave Sakusa a headache. He closes his eyes for a second. And when he opens it, he's seeing double. Again.

He's still on the court. Miya is still there. The only difference is, in this other universe, there was no net separating them. He looks down. He's still wearing his Adlers uniform. But he also sees himself wearing black and gold— the color of MSBY Jackals.

It's true that Sakusa had considered joining the Jackals for a brief moment. But in the end, he had chosen comfort. It wasn't exactly logical moving all the way to a different city just to join a team.

Is that what he was seeing?

An alternate universe wherein he had chosen to leave Tokyo?

It all made sense except for the part where Sakusa woke up with Miya beside him in bed, spouting the same nickname he's going around calling him in this universe.

A whistle blows signalling the end of the match.

His vision splits. In one, he sees the Adlers win. In the other, the Jackals are announced as the winner.

The players line up to shake hands. Miya Atsumu takes his.

"Congrats on the win, Omi-omi," he says, then smirks. "But I still won more service aces than ya today."

A memory hits him. But it's not his. But it's him talking. Maybe a memory of him in a different universe.

Good. Now I can still be the first one to get a service ace today.

Oh, shut yer mouth, Omi-omi!

"Omi?" He hears Miya call. And he can't tell anymore which version of Miya is talking. "Are ya okay?"

He realizes a moment later that he's still holding Atsumu's hand and that they're the only ones standing by the net.

The rest of their teammates had started cooling down or chatting idly by the sidelines.

He looks up at Atsumu, still seeing him in two different universes. One with a net between them, and one without. But the way Atsumu looks at him is the same.

He can't tell which universe and which version is moving. But he surges forward, pulling Atsumu to him. And captures his lips.

And suddenly, both universes don't seem that different anymore.

a. I'm gonna be so controversial here but I have skipped the opening and ending credits of every single anime except jjk s1 and csm, so I really couldn't tell you 😭 I simply do not have the patience for them, forgive me.

b. Oooh my favourite games in order are:

1. MSBY Black Jackals vs Schweiden Adlers

2. Karasuno vs Seijoh (season 1)

3. Karasuno vs Inarizaki

c. Probably Atsumu for me. I hated his guts in the anime but came to love his goofy ass in the timeskip 🫶🏽

d. Oikawa, probably! Although my fave is still Kageyama, my initial love for Oikawa has actually increased DRASTICALLY in the last year and he's an extremely dear and special and personal character for me now :')

e. My top three ships currently (and unlikely to change now) are:

1. Kagehina

2. Oikage

3. Ushioi

Yes, I did watch the movie and I enjoyed the experience a lot!! ❤️ However, I can't say I was satisfied with it and it left a lot to be wanted imo :( Haikyuu is just not the kind of manga that fits into the format of a movie, plus I'm not generally happy about the way it's being adapted and am still keeping my fingers crossed for either s5 or a third movie!
