I’ve seen a lot of bad information circulating about what happens when the cohort converts a thalergenic planet to a thanergy planet so I wanted to clear up some misconceptions ^u^

Converting a planet does NOT make it unable to sustain life. If thanergenic planets couldn't sustain life, no1 would be able to live on the nine houses!!!

The wildlife does NOT get mutated. How would that even work? I stj people they don't hurt the wildlife, they only affect the planets! The 'varmints have best friends' campaign is honestly just in bad faith :((

Sarpedon is a ruler of Lycia famously killed by Patroclus during the Trojan War, and there is a struggle for his body until it is rescued by Apollo and conveyed to Hypnos and Thanatos (sleep and death) for burial.

I'm like well huh, maybe someone's gonna kill Sarpedon, who's our Patroclus.

Gideon's death is what undid Harrow, the way that Patroclus's death undid Achilles.

Here's the kicker: Harrow's mother Pelleamena is named for Achilles' father Peleus, according to the gtn name notes. a fun detail that seems incredibly specific for a character we never see alive. Tamsyn Muir, what the fuck are you up to.

Will Kiriona kill Sarpedon? I guess we'll just have to see.

(though to be fair, Harrow's father is named for the Trojan king Priam, who was on the side of the people Achilles and Patroclus killed, so who knows, this is just a fun little idea I've been rotating in my head). How much of this is gonna end up Iliad-based? We already obviously have the Dios Apate.

ok need to share bc i have been rolling Admiral Sarpedon’s name around in my head all day. why doesn’t he have a house name?? i spent a minute trying to research if there’s some numerical root in “Sarpedon” but there’s not. it’s just a guy from the Illiad.

it does seem like a first name, but we know last names are usually used with cohort titles. Lieutenant Dyas. Captain Deuteros. why would the emperor’s military situationship be the only one referred to by first name like. what am i missing here??? even if crack theories are true and he’s Judith’s dad, knowing his house name wouldn’t give that away bc families don’t share house names. please help me

OK SO! I actually strongly disagree with the theory that's Judith's dad because, as fun as it would be, we know from AYU that Judith's dad is the Fleet Admiral —I'm assuming is THE title of THE Cohort big boss / Second House leader. Sarpedon was admiral on the Emperor's flagship, which usually doesn't see combat, and imo he's not the guy who's been leading the fleet. His title is also different — just “Admiral” in HtN, then upgraded to Grand Admiral.

In NtN, we also get a mention of Judith's dad; specifically, he's annoying Ianthe over supply lines.

This line makes me think it's not Sarpedon, who has a direct line to God and wouldn't need to squabble with Ianthe over logistics. Also, there's no way Ianthe wouldn't let slip that Judith's father is fucking John to Corona the moment they see each other.

Anyway! I think Sarpedon is definitely Second House, and we don't learn his last name because it's not relevant. His first name is more incisive, more memorable to the audience, and imo it helps convey a certain atmosphere of familiarity among the long-serving crew of the Erebos. That's a guy God and the Lyctors are all on a first name basis with, because he's served on the Emperor's flagship for at least two decades. He absolutely has a House name his subordinates and peers address him by, and maybe he's just as much of a stickler about introducing himself by last name + rank as Judith is, but our POV characters don't care.

I also wonder if his shiny new title of Grand Admiral means that now he can “get away with” just being Grand Admiral Sarpedon because it's such a swanky rank. There are probably thousands of First Lieutenants named Marta; there are a handful of high command admirals and he's God's specialest boy.

anyway: tldr, I think his last name doesn't matter, and also maybe Tamsyn is running out of House-themed names that sounded cool / wanted him to stand out.

Let me qualify this by first stating that I have zero (0), canon-based reasons to think this- I have no evidence- nada, zilch, goose egg.

But I think it would be so funny if Sarpedon were Judith’s dad.

Sarpedon’s a fleet admiral; Judith’s dad’s a fleet admiral

Sarpedon’s described as being in his 50s/60s, Judith is 22 as of GtN. The math adds up for having kids in your late thirties/early forties

That is exactly all I have to go on

Like I said: basically no rationale behind this one. I just think it would be piss-funny if Judith “the only thing I’m more loyal to than the military is God” Deuteros’ dad pity-fucked God.
