I wanted to write you a personal message to express my love for your art. ✨ Your most recent ones are beautiful! There are so many details I enjoy (like the little hickeys on Morpheus’ skin asdfj). The way you draw faces and depict bodily expressions is fantastic, and I think your understanding of anatomy is really good! If you ever feel pressured into believing you’re not good enough and, thus, you shouldn’t share whatever wonderful art you wish to with whoever you like, please, remember: it’s a-ok to want to improve your craft, but don’t be so hard on yourself. I’m sure many more would agree with me when I say that we are thankful just to see your presence on our little screens! Your dreamling art is fantastic and the effort you put in it is not in vain. ❤️

Hello hello, dear Cocoa,

First and foremost, thank you for your message, it’s very kind and encouraging, so thank you, so so much.

I’m glad you like their body languages !! Because it matters a lot, for me, when I draw intimacy.

I often struggle with my own style : full of lines, lot of details… And so I feel both free and locked by it. I have so much to tell, and so little time, skill and efficient mind I have for. Hence, I need to convey, even with the smallest things : love, (mis)understanding, a certain amount of melancholy, empathy, just two people with different wishes and battles… Making up with familiarity, whatever it means for them.

Dreamling is the best exercise for it. Their relationship can be told from sooo many different perspectives, so many issues, so many versions of them. It happens that love, for the worst and the best, happily dances around them, and so an endless of possibilities come up with it, as simple as it can be. I love to see and read, from lines and words, how brillantly fucked and weird and beautiful dreamling are, equally to the world they live in. It's just… so therapeutic.

I won’t really tell more about it, for now, but in so, so many ways, The Sandman has helped me to come back to older roots -oh teenage laments-, to greet friendly ghosts I wished to forget, and most importantly, to heal.

To help crafting a more appeased relationship with my art, being ok with fighting (a little) with the characters ; to understand better how they work, deep diving into the nuances, making up your mind about your own failures, especially with portraying, accepting intimacy, and being unapologetic with it.

I’m so, so happy I've discovered this universe and its fandom, and I can’t thank them enough for being a part of this healing process.

So naturally, I will draw more of them ! For me, it has patched some memories up, bringed some long lost smiles, and so I wish with warmth that my drawings will provide, even for the briefest moments, a fragment of those peculiar feelings.

So thank you again, for your adorable message ! I’ll keep going !!

i love that sophie spends so much of early leverage trying to act kind of impressive or cool or mysterious or powerful, even to the team - BUT the leverage team all know she’s a dork. they’ve known since day one when they first saw her, giving her very awful theater performance, and they really, really don’t care. they love their weird dramatic theater geek grifter friend. she tries to be all cool & mysterious and they’re just like "that’s great soph, but we’ll be hanging out at nate’s apartment the HQ watching a movie when ur done with that".

Mirabel Madrigal & Creativity:

So something I’ve realized after watching the movie a couple of times now is how mirabels story can easily correlate with the experience of someone creative when you’re only considered of use if you’re academically smart.

Not only do they refer to the magic as “gifts” and “gifted” very common terms associated with people who are considered academically smart but also the fact mirabel is shown as an artist. Our first introduction to her you see her room is plastered in artwork as a 5 year old and even after the prologue you still see she’s kept her artistic side. the thing is mirabel is incredibly talented she draws, she sews, she embroiders, paints, plays the accordion too! These are all incredible talents to possess and yet do we ever see her getting praised for them in the movie? not really. because mirabel doesn’t have a “gift” a literal magic gift yes but also could be interpreted for a creative as academic smarts. Creative thinking is something mirabel possesses and its quite literally the answer in the end but because she’s not smart in the expected way i.e academics she feels she’s not worth as much as others in her family.

I like to think making her an artist was an intentional choice as I know a lot of fellow artists have had people tell us it’s not a “useful” skill to have in the real world. It’s not worth taking the time doing when you could be pursuing medicine or law or something that uses your brain. Even in the ending of the movie mirabel tells them they’re “more than just your gift” which I feel can relate a lot to people who heavily rely on their academic achievements they can forget it’s ok to not do 100% every time and these ridiculous standards are just wearing you down.

So in conclusion I believe mirabels story resonates a lot with the experience of being a creative person but your skills not being seen as valuable. I just love that they made mirabel an artist to show how talented she actually is! she shows that creatives are valued and appreciated and needed and deserve to be encouraged not shot down! so thank you mirabel valentina rojas madrigal for being my favorite artist <3

When I went to university, there was a guy a year or so above me who was famous across the whole department because he was super nice, super gorgeous, and went jogging regularly while shirtless and wearing very tiny very short bright red shorts. And so everyone called him Beautiful Dave. Genuinely! Not an insult in the slightest. He was Beautiful and people needed to know!

And listen. LISTEN. That's Steve.

Hot college student who loves to get up early and go jogging shirtless and in his old basketball shorts.

Him, Robin, and Eddie all move up to Chicago together. Robin studies languages, Steve studies to be a paramedic or a physical therapist or something, Eddie fucks around and gets a job bc he has had enough of academia. They all get a shitty apartment near their college campus together and Steve finds he likes academia a lot more when it's something he cares about. He joins the swim team, he makes friends, and he finds out one day that people have started referring to him as Beautiful Steve.

He worries at first that it's another King Steve thing, but it's not!  People genuinely think he's absolutely beautiful and super nice and friendly. And so he kind of... goes along with it. He'll go jogging in his short shorts and people will greet him as Beautiful Steve and he responds with a smile and a wave.

Robin and Eddie find out while on campus one day when a group of people call him Beautiful Steve and he responds. Steve tells them that people started calling him that and It's the best day of their lives. Because that's their Steve! Their Steve is Beautiful Steve!! And they're nice about it because I want fluff and silly happiness and people are too mean to Steve

Robin and Eddie FULL SCALE endorsing beautiful Steve!!! They get so into it they get the student to eventually treat him like a cryptid in that there’s sticks and badges of ‘I believe in beautiful Steve’ and it’s over a pair of illustrated red shorts. It’s a fun way of making some side income for them all and Steve gets a kick out of it.

Campus legend Beautiful Steve but it never becomes a creepy or uncomfortable thing. Everyone just enjoying what has organically grown from it all. He ends up as a ‘wheres Wally’ situation on the campus brochure. Never centre stage, always in the background and happily so.

He goes out on placement for his course and get a warm welcome on his return. Getting nods and waves and feeling like he has a Place here in his own way. Eddie and Robin observing it all and delighting at the smile it brings to Steve’s face every time. He may be Beautiful Steve to the uni but he’s Their Steve first and he won’t let them forget that
