Targaryen names I have beef with

Aenys - Fitting name for a little wimp but it still sounds ugly.

Aenar - Also ugly.

Daella - Why is it pronounced "Day-ella" but spelled "Da-ella"?

Same for Rhaelle & Rhaella (I want to pronounce her name "Ray-la" so bad), but they sound slightly less ugly than Daella & don't give me the ick like the rest.

Maelor - I know it means "little prince" or whatever but it rolls of the tongue terribly. It sounds like the name of an ugly Valyrian pet or something. Why couldn't Helaena have named him Baelor (sounds slightly better) after her grandfather or something?

Rhae - Cute but a name for a princess??? Maekar & Dyanna were so lazy with this one.

Rhaegel - Because it's one letter off from Rhaegal and sounds almost the same.

Matarys - I hate it, thanks.

Valarr - ...

Aegor - Sounds ugly

Haegon - It just feels off. "Hae" & "gon" don't sound good together.

Gaemon - Gael is the only pretty name with the "Gae" prefix.

Names I also don't like but can live with: Saera, Vaegon, Aelor, Baelon

Princess Aelora Targaryen, daughter of Prince Rhaegel Targaryen and Alys Arryn, wife to Aelor Targaryen. She was married to her twin Aelor who in a tragic incident, she accidentally caused the death of. While at a masquerade ball she was attacked by three men called Rat, Hawk, and Pig, while the nature of the accident is unknown she committed suicide soon after the attack.

It seems aside from Baela and Rhaena Targaryen, every twin born in house Targaryen truly has tragedy in their blood, with one dying a horrific death and the other remaining somewhat a shell of their former self. forever missing a part of their soul in a sense.

Some believe Rhaella and Aerea were even swapped for one another. which I think is so much more tragic as the now Rhaella will forever wonder if maybe she had stayed as Aerea perhaps her sister, the other half of her soul wouldn't have died such a tragic death.

Jaehaera is another example. She had to watch as B&C killed her twin brother, the tragedy that drove her mother to madness. She survived the Dying of Dragons but she never quit felt whole again, she was the last of the greens, and no one could truly understand how that felt for her even her grandmother was half-mad. No one ever seems to have comforted her, or thought her important enough until the end of the dance when she's the last of Aegon ii's line.

there is also Daenerys Targaryen (the daughter of Aegon the unworthy) I believe her twin is said to have died at birth, had he lived however mayhaps her life would have turned out a bit differently. She'd either had been married to her Twin as par Targaryen traditions or perhaps it would have been a case of mutual love and yet torn apart for duty as Daeron ii would have Daenerys marry Maron Martall to bring Dorne into the seven kingdoms. Perhaps Daenerys's twin brother would have joined Daemon Blackfyre's cause due to his resentment for Daeron. So many possibilities really (also I don't subscribe to the Daemon Blackfyre and Daenerys ship it just doesn't make sense to me on many levels)

Aelora Targaryen, now much like Jaehaera it's possible that she was witness to her twin brothers death, and it's stated that he dies due to an accident on her part, although we don't know what it is. the difference from Jaehaera and Jaehaerys is the Aelora and Aelor were married and much older I believe, so Aelora's understanding of subjects such as death is much more clear, and the fact that she's responsible for his death...It drives her mad. And when he dies she has to take his place as their uncle's heir she has to be what Aelor was. I can just imagine the self loathing and hatred she holds for herself... She never wanted any of it and yet now she has it. Then there's the Rat, the Hawk, and the Pig who assaulted her, that's the last straw for Aelora, and much like Jaehaera who can't handle living in a world that doesn't seem to understand her pain, Aelora takes her own life.

Ironically it's always a sister that's left to mourn for another sister or brother. Not sure if grrm did it on purpose but I always do wonder what would have happened in the situation was reversed.

what do you think aelor's, aelora's, and daenora's childhood was like with rhaegel and alys as their parents? how much of an impact do you think their father's alleged "madness" had on them? maybe it was only because of rhaegel's eccentricities that the aelor/aelora marriage was signed off on.

Tbh I think there would be a massive difference between the childhoods of Aelor and Aelora versus the childhood of Daenora. In my mind, Rhaegel wasn’t so much “mad” as he was just an incredibly eccentric guy (rip man you would’ve loved being a kooky rich guy in the victorian era 😔) so whatever his behaviours were, they didn’t negatively affect his children too much. That being said though, Rhaegel I think could’ve had a big interest in their valyrian heritage, to an extent that he might’ve not seen the whole incest thing as inherently wrong, leading to the twins themselves probably thinking their unhealthy attachment to one another was completely okay seeing as their dad could give them the seal of approval if they asked really nicely. So, on the outside looking in they probably had a normal childhood?? Just as long as we ignore how quick the twins were to accept that one day they might marry, and how lenient Rhaegel might’ve been when signing off on it lol.

As for Daenora though, I unfortunately don’t see her as having much of a childhood around her dad. If we’re just going on timelines, she would’ve either been a toddler or not even born at all when Rhaegel died. Hell, a decent chunk of her relatives were dead by the time she came into existence, if Alys even had enough willpower to raise her in the most kindest gentlest and patient way possible, I can’t see her childhood being anywhere near normal, especiallyyy when both her older siblings die! And, to add the icing onto an already shit cake, she also has to do the incest thing, except with her cousin who at the VERY best (going based off guesstimated birth years) was old enough to be her dad himself!

I think this did turn into an incredibly off topic rant….. whoopsies lol. Conclusion being in my silly little brain soup world none of Rhaegel and Alys’ children ended up being normal, but I think Rhaegel’s alleged madness either didn’t have any impact or very little impact, they got all their issues by themselves I’m so proud of them <3
