TBOBF Episode 6 Spoiler Thoughts
Tumblr media
I just watched the episode, consider this more of my thoughts than a constructed argument, it'll be rough😅
First, above all else: it is beyond frustrating that this show has basically dropped Boba. He is the main character, but he has been absent from nearly a third of the show now. Considering how hard Temeura has fought for good native representation, it is not unfair to suggest that maybe Temeura had to fight for that time at all.
They should just start calling these shows "Star Wars Legacy" or labeling them under some other big umbrella. If Mando, Boba Fett, and future shows associated this heavily (like Ahsoka, potentially) were all under one banner, one name, just with a stated emphasis on a character for each season, a lot of this structuring frustration would be gone. It no longer would be frustrating that Mando S2 and Boba Fett have been almost overrun by other properties, if they all were one interconnected narrative under one title, it would be a lot less frustrating.
That being said, this episode was still really fucking cool
I know people have complained about Luke being too fundamental (for a lack of a better term) but I quite like it. People are saying that he learned the flaws of the jedi and should do better, and I agree! But I like that this Luke in canon is torn on what to do. He tells Ahsoka that he doesn't know what to do with Grogu. Had he been Yoda, he would just jump into training Grogu, maybe not even give him a choice at all. Luke wants to preserve the history of the Jedi but also get past it's flaws, and I think you can see that in his ultimate decision to give Grogu a choice.
Also, Tarre Vizsla's name kept coming to me this episode. Luke and Ahsoka are pushing a choice, but we see that you could have both with Tarre. The entire figurehead of Mandalorian Culture was a Jedi AND Mandalorian, why can't Grogu be both? But to be fair, Ahsoka will have seen how well following a Mando Jedi ended up going for the Mandalorians, so who knows.
I also like that we are introduced to him as the wise master training Grogu. He's kind, but he is very much shown as the Jedi master we expect him to be. But once he is out of earshot of his student and talking to Ahsoka, he shows really how much he is winging it. He doesn't know what to do, how to do this, and he turns to Ahsoka for help. I like the dichotomy of Luke trying to be the new Grandmaster of an order while still feeling lost on what to do and turning to a family member (Ahsoka basically is) for help.
Din is just one of the most selfless people in this universe. I don't have many words. But you can see that, despite how much pain he is in, he always tries to do what is right for other people. I honestly think that what is right for Grogu is being with Din, you know, sideyeing Kylo and all of that, but Din doesn't know and he does his best.
Again, very little development on Boba and Fennec's end, though I hope that maybe Fennec can discuss Omega with Boba next episode, seeing Bane is around. Omega is the closest thing Boba would have to a sister, I wonder if he knows about her.
Cobb Vanth is fucking hot
Cobb Vanth and Mando high key have really good chemistry
When Cobb mentioned that Din's smile can get him anything he wants? A joke to be sure, but then immediately after Cobb gives him what he wants
Cad Bane definitely was the highlight though
For one, he's hot terrifying. His fangs and oddly shaped mouth, his eyes, his ENTRANCE
I knew that Bane was in the episode and that he shot Cobb but I still felt an incredible Dread when I saw him coming on the horizon like that
Having Bane around honestly makes the upcoming fight so much more terrifying. Before it is just nameless Pikes, like sure, but who cares. But I am not exaggerating when I say that I suspect Bane could take all of Boba's assembled forces, at least by doing a couple at a time
Bane is by far the most powerful hunter shown in canon and I will stand by that (ignoring Ventress, who is more of a force wielder than hunter anyway)
I suspect that Cobb may know more about Bane than he was letting on. He tries to keep a cool, friendly, but firm demeanor, but it feels like you can see the panic on him still. He immediately gets people inside. And while he does a much better job of hiding it than the deputy, Cobb does have a palpable air of fear about him
I really think that we will get a standoff between Boba and Bane next episode. We know that it was supposed to happen in TCW, you can go see the rough animation on it now. Having Bane in the show alone shows that it very well may happen, but after his standoffs with both Hunter and Cobb, I bet Bane will lose his third one
Also, I find it odd that Bane denounces Boba as a cold-hearted killer for the Empire. While Bane is not above saying that just to get a rise from the town, it does make me think. Bane has not worked for the Empire, in fact we have only seen him work AGAINST it in TBB. Bane is such a ruthless asshole, it is kinda weird to see him pull a morality card
Rip the Cantina of the MILF and trans Twi'ilek (probably butchered that)
So we all think Grogu will go for Din, right? Disney would never have him stay with Luke to be butchered by Kylo.
If Boba doesn't ride the Rancor into battle next episode this entire season was for nothing
Anyway, 4/10 episode considering that it IS a Boba Fett episode, but like 9/10 ignoring that. It is peak Star Wars, but really shotty Boba Fett.
