Ce que parler veut dire... ou pas !

Notre langue a perdu son rôle de lien social. Ce n'est plus qu'un moyen de coercition, de viol des consciences, d'interdiction de sortir d'un cadre inefficace, étouffant et décérébrant... au profit exclusif (croient-ils, ces idiots ! Leur réveil sera douloureux !) des tenants d'une idéologie ''de merde'' (Pour une fois, je ne vais pas m'excuser : c'est exactement ce qu'elle est, et rien d'autre !). Parler ne veut plus rien dire, être compris est le dernier souci de rédacteurs qui ne respectent rien, et se servir des mots pour cocufier le gogo est la dernière arme du progressisme.

Pourtant, même si on se croit préparé, apte à faire face, et ayant prévu que la ''langue française'' n'était plus ni l'une (elle n'échange plus, elle affirme des truismes), ni l'autre (c'est un ''mix'' de mauvais anglais et de français résiduel), il arrive qu'on se laisse surprendre par des lectures... que l'on aurait préféré ne pas faire. Par exemple, un spécialiste-mode (sic !), écrivait hier dans La Tribune du Dimanche, ce qu'il croit utile à la bonne marche du monde :

Titre : Le cuir revient en force sur les podiums'' (vous ne direz pas que vous n'étiez pas prévenus : en cette année où Paris devient un enfer-version hidalgo sous prétexte de Jeux Olympiques, c'est intéressant de savoir ce qui va se passer sur les podiums !). Le cuir, donc, revient en force sur les podiums (qui, vérification faite, ne sont pas olympiques), mais ''le trompe l’œil des bomber Berlutti, que l'on prend de loin pour du velours ou du daim, donne des envies d'all-over''. Et en lisant ces lignes, j'ai réalisé brusquement à quel point étaient puissantes mes envies d'all-over ! C'est fou, quand on y pense, comme il se passe en nous de choses dont nous n'avions pas senti la montée sur le podium...

Depuis quelques jours, j'avais comme des sueurs, un truc qui me réveillait en pleine nuit, et je m'inquiétais –bien à tort : c'était juste une envie, un besoin d'all-over ! Poursuivant ma lecture, j'ai appris, comme ça, sans préparation à un tel événement, que ''les tons neutres sont de tous les catwalks'', et que ''la clé pour twister les monochromes pouvant paraître fades'' est simple comme Bonjour : ''c'est le layerling en 4, 5, voire 6 couches''... Mais fort heureusement, tout ce qui précède est légèrement tempéré par le fait –remarquable s'il en fut !-- que ''le look western de la tête aux pieds confirme son retour triomphant''. (''Ben voyons ! '' commenterait Zemmour), ce qui ajoute une dimension non neutre à la liste des problèmes que toutes ces magnifiques nouvelles font tomber d'un seul coup, toutes ensemble : il va falloir ressortir des imitations de santiag et des franges en-veux-tu-en-voilà, sans oublier le bolo, à nouveau indispensable.

Et n'allez surtout pas me dire que vous ne savez pas ce que c'est qu'un bolo, cette merveilleuse invention de Vic Cedarstaff, brevetée à Wickenburg, en Arizona au début des années '50 : là, comme dirait Alain Rémond, je ne peux plus rien pour vous. Déjà que je vous ai servi à domicile le ''koulchi'' pour vous permettre de bluffer vos catwalks grâce à l'all-over qui va vous twister, à fond la caisse, le monochrome boosté au layerling en 6 couleurs du nouveau formal casual de vos hoodies en bombers trompe l'oeil, vous ne voudriez pas que je vous paye votre ''boite à fromage'', en plus ?

Trois questions me taraudent : La première : est-ce que le génie de la mode qui a écrit ce torchon croit qu'il ou elle parle, même un tout petit peu, le français ? La deuxième : combien gagne-t-il ou elle (alternative : combien a-t-il ou elle osé facturer cette monstruosité) ? Il y a deux jours, le 22 janvier très exactement, je vous parlais, à propos de tous les ''scandales-du-siècle'' qui polluent notre environnement sans interruption (''H 24'' comme on dit en néo volapük francoïforme), des ventes des voitures ''tout électrique''. L'éditorial s'appelait ''L'heure des comptes'', et on y lisait, notamment : ''A force de tricher, de mentir, de se prostituer et de faire la danse du ventre, l'Europe et la France ont réussi (à quel prix !) à faire décoller les ventes de voitures électriques (surtout les marques étrangères).''. Or... figurez-vous que j'ai trouvé, il y a deux heures, à quelles sommes vertigineuses s'élevait ce ''A quel prix''... dont les montants himalayens sont dans la ligne du ''quelqu'en soit le prix'' que Le Maire nous assure, avec son faux air de vrai colin-froid-mayonnaise, avoir abandonné (NB- Sa dernière incontinence mérite le pilori : ''J'avais dit que l'électricité augmenterait, mais ''de moins de 10 %'' . Et bonne nouvelle (sic !) : il ne va augmenter que de 9,8... J'ai tenu ma promesse (re-sic !)''. Il y ''en a des''... qui se perdent ! D'où ce ''second'' blog, d'un ton très différent : j'ai décidé de ne pas falsifier mon humeur joyeuse du début de la soirée de ce Mardi... mais de laisser éclater ma rage de ce soir...

Dites-vous bien, chers amis-lecteurs, que pour chaque voiture qu'il se vante d'avoir ''vendue'', l'Etat, dans son irresponsabilité criminelle, sort de sa poche –c'est-à-dire la vôtre-- 13 000 €uros ! Je le répète, car c'est trop affreux : 13 000 €uros par véhicule ! Pas étonnant, que les ventes se mettent à décoller ! Nos irresponsables-au-pouvoir prévoient 35 000 dossiers de ces ''véhicules à 100 €uros par mois''. Mais à ces conditions là, ça va être 10 fois plus ! Je me demande même si moi, qui suis opposé à la bagnole dite ''électrique'' (puisqu'elle n'est que ''fiscale''), je ne vais pas en commander 10 ou 15, tout de suite ! Ou plus !

Et pendant ce temps, nos pantins surpayés prétendent ne pas trouver d'argent pour les familles dans la rue, pour nos villages terrifiés par la ''ventilation des immigrés'' et pour nos enfants drogués par les mêmes ou à peu près, pour nos écoles qui s'enfoncent dans la violence, pour nos pauvres hôpitaux en voie de clochardisation, pour notre France explosée en camps adversaires (au lieu de ''adverses''), pour les paysans qui en sont réduits au suicide par la bêtise criminelle de la grosse Commission européenne et de ses partisans, progressistes et autres...

Mais ils en trouvent, des sous, pour ''accueillir toute la misère, vraie ou fabriquée, du monde'', pour subventionner tout ce qui ne devrait surtout pas l'être, pour ne pas arriver à combler le trou sans fin d'une guerre qui n'est pas la nôtre contre un ennemi qui n'est pas le nôtre, pour satisfaire tous les fantasmes, tous mortifères, d'Ursula von der Leyen, pour alimenter généreusement les chimères sociétales de théoriciens ennemis de toute humanité... ou pour subventionner, à 13 000 € l'unité, des constructeurs de voitures dont la fabrication est polluante et qui ne rouleront bientôt plus, faute d'électricité en quantité suffisante...

Je suis, vous vous en rendez compte, totalement scandalisé. C'est bien la première fois, en 11 ans de ''Blog'', que je laisse transparaître un sentiment ''perso''. Mais trop, c'est trop ! On ne peut pas laisser ce gang d'incapables piller la France et confisquer ses (= nos) ressources pour toutes les mauvaises causes qui sont les seules qu'ils ont en portefeuille... Pardon ! Demain, je serai calmé.

Engineers bring efficient optical neural networks into focus

06.08.24 - EPFL researchers have published a programmable framework that overcomes a key computational bottleneck of optics-based artificial intelligence systems. In a series of image classification experiments, they used scattered light from a low-power laser to perform accurate, scalable computations using a fraction of the energy of electronics. As digital artificial intelligence systems grow in size and impact, so does the energy required to train and deploy them – not to mention the associated carbon emissions. Recent research suggests that if current AI server production continues at its current pace, their annual energy consumption could outstrip that of a small country by 2027. Deep neural networks, inspired by the architecture of the human brain, are especially power-hungry due to the millions or even billions of connections between multiple layers of neuron-like processors. To counteract this mushrooming energy demand, researchers have doubled down on efforts to implement optical computing systems, which have existed experimentally since the 1980s. These systems rely on photons to process data, and although light can theoretically be used to perform computations much faster and more efficiently than electrons, a key challenge has hindered optical systems’ ability to surpass the electronic state-of-the art. Our method is up to 1,000 times more power-efficient than state-of-the-art deep digital networks, making it a promising platform for realizing optical neural networks. Demetri Psaltis, Optics Laboratory “In order to classify data in a neural network, each node, or ‘neuron’, must make a ‘decision’ to fire or not based on weighted input data. This decision leads to what is known as a nonlinear transformation of the data, meaning the output is not directly proportional to the input,” says Christophe Moser, head of the Laboratory of Applied Photonics Devices in EPFL’s School of Engineering. Postdoctoral researcher Niyazi Ulas Dinc and PhD student Mustafa Yildrim © Alain Herzog Moser explains that while digital neural networks can easily perform nonlinear transformations with transistors, in optical systems, this step requires very powerful lasers. Moser worked with students Mustafa Yildirim, Niyazi Ulas Dinc, and Ilker Oguz, as well as Optics Laboratory head Demetri Psaltis, to develop an energy-efficient method for performing these nonlinear computations optically. Their new approach involves encoding data, like the pixels of an image, in the spatial modulation of a low-power laser beam. The beam reflects back on itself several times, leading to a nonlinear multiplication of the pixels. "Our image classification experiments on three different datasets showed that our method is scalable, and up to 1,000 times more power-efficient than state-of-the-art deep digital networks, making it a promising platform for realizing optical neural networks,” says Psaltis. The research, supported by a Sinergia grant from the Swiss National Science Foundation, has recently been published in Nature Photonics. A simple structural solution In nature, photons do not directly interact with each other the way charged electrons do. To achieve nonlinear transformations in optical systems, scientists have therefore had to ‘force’ photons to interact indirectly, for example by using a light intense enough to modify the optical properties of the glass or other material it passes through. 2019 Documentation & 2020 Resolution

回想起来自己已经两年没有写博客啦。这样没有记录的生活，再回想起来，竟然不记得多少回忆的瞬间：当然，如果硬着头皮想想，我还是能记起两年来的每个瞬间，可是以后呢？

2019年的这些瞬间，有些是现在想起来都觉得��福和快乐的，有些呢，有些我只希望把那些瞬间永远的掩埋在那些时间里，然后再立上一座墓碑。

一月

想想2019年的一年，年初的时候我在哪里？刚刚去boc山里的项目，为了可视化报表的事情而加班，一直一直加班到春节前。那时候的目标很简单：和boc的兄弟们融入到一起，然后尽力把自己手上负责PowerBI和服务器所有开发的事情做完。重复地加班，在中关村的公司，和兄弟们一起奋斗的感觉是很幸福的。也是那段时间后PowerBI的从头到尾都让我有了一些底气。

二月

春节时候和教员、茄子和她的小伙伴一起去丹东旅行，冬天的旅行就是泡温泉和暖气房里的Switch游戏，后来茄子的男朋友也加入游戏，整个三天都很放松。独自回京后，在山里的办公场地转到了海鹰，从起初几天的没什么事情可做（正是这个时间里我读完了英文版全本的SQL Query Guidance），到二期可视化的内容开始：又一批暗无天日的加班。在自己的阴历生日时候，加班后请海涛和刚哥深夜烧烤，是二月份最开心的一晚了。

其实从那时起注意到伟哥每天晚上都很早下班，去住酒店，注意到他中午从不回座位，后来又听说了他和办公室里小姑娘的故事，后来的后来又发生了很多很多事情…

三月

二期的项目在三月中旬接近尾声，这个月我和yaj学会了打壁球（她打得好好），和昕桐周末呆在一起，还和龙哥去爬了次山（虽然后来再没有爬过，希望开春再去爬山）。运动又春天的一个月。

四月

项目结束后，在球台的项目做了一个差不多的项目，这个时候慢慢做一点点SQL的事情。在四月底的时候做了科技大会的项目：第一次写代码写到去厕所哭的地步，可是这次之后我学到两件事情：没有什么是真的解决不了的；永远做好十足的准备。科技大会顺利结束，期间清明节和教员去了济南，后来又去zhuozhuo家录了些合唱。看了心动的信号和喜欢你我也是两个综艺——这两个综艺最大的收获其实是：女生可以多么优秀呢？看看华尔街纳斯达克的超超：）

五月

五月是自己最黑暗的一个月：二期投产后，没有什么事情可做，整天呆在工位东想西想，完全不在状态。五月的末尾去了上海培训，其实我希望能够再去一次、再逛一次上海，希望可以覆盖掉所有五月黑暗的经历。后来八月的前奏，我写了一首歌词，又在20年的2月修改后谱了曲。

六月

六月的端午节科技大会闭幕，白天依然没事可做，东想西想下去，周末和zhuozhuo出去玩，又去TMC和人说说话。实话讲，我不知道自己6月做了什么。

七月

去美国ready之前，最后一个在海鹰的晚上，我放着海龟先生的《咿呀呀》，在楼下的椅子上哭了很久，在海鹰的日子终于结束，我又有一个新的开始。

Ready是和朋友们，和zhuozhuo一起玩耍最快乐的时候：晚上和zhuozhuo录歌，白天因为时差而醒不过来，唯一遗憾的是没有认真听课。和zhuozhuo偷偷跑了很多很多地方，后面又和yaj，然总逛遍旧金山和LA。当然在这期间我想通了：要和自己喜欢的人在一起，不喜欢的人不必勉强，不喜欢的人会吸走你身上的正能量的。

八月

Ready回来，先是自己过了很多MIP，后面就在山里，坐在新的工位上，一边做非功能项目的事情，一边做运维的熟悉。八月和九月一直在出差，去长春，顺便回家，去大连，去武汉…把zhuozhuo请到家里来玩，和教员一起，又在很多个周末做了有趣的乐器录歌，感觉自己很幸福。开始学习指弹吉他：）

九月

九月的主题应该是断舍离与零浪费。这个月里我尝试了很多很多断舍离和零浪费的方法，并且希望自己一直一直做下去，认清自己需要的东西，而不是应该需要的东西。九月的末尾搬了家，和新生活say hello。我彻底摆脱了三个月前灰暗的、停滞不前的生活。

九月的末尾我加入了乐队，编曲、排练，是民乐团之后最快乐的时候。愿意来回打车两个小时从客户去公司，每周期待两个晚上的排练，就像本科时候每周期待的PSC活动。

十月

十月的开头，我和zhuo去了甘南和阿坝，第一次上到了四千多米的高原地区，明显感觉到心跳加速，可是整个旅程轻松又愉快。十月又去了天津看反光镜乐队的live，在深夜的街上跳舞，去了陪你走一路公益活动，在深夜的地坛群魔乱舞——十月是秋游的季节，每个周末都在秋游：去石花洞，去欢乐谷过山车，去客户旁边的野外爬山…周中的晚上也有排练，试了吉他、打鼓、合成器��觉得最喜欢的还是站着弹吉他，因为可以随意晃动呀！

十一月

十一月的开头和于二狗去听了Rachael的live：这是一场我预谋好久的live，最喜欢的外国女歌手，演唱会的最后竟唱了那首<Sunday Afternoon>,那段时间最喜欢的一首歌。有人在下面喊“you saved me”。

十一月也做完了动态基线的项目，在公司跟戈哥他们呆了很多天，做完了让苗老板表扬的Presentation,跟于二狗去试了空中瑜伽，末尾又去了澳门出差，跟阿俊和mingjie讲了很多很多话，发现人不论到了什么年纪，打开心扉的时候都是不自信且孩子气的；澳门的周末zhuozhuo从深圳过来一起玩，又一起回了深圳。

十一月的末尾也交了另一个好朋友队长，开心并幸运。

十二月

十二月最开心的事就是去海淀二小给小朋友们讲编程一小时。与其说是给小朋友讲，不如说自己在其中学到了很多：小学生的英文水平、思辨能力、给孩子讲故事的tips…还有Alain看起来很喜欢那堂课的样子。

后来迎接beer和他的女朋友从瑞典回来，为数不多让我觉得超级和谐的一对：一起去射了箭，逗了柴犬，吃了火锅…又去听了zhuo在少年宫的合唱纪念：匆匆的每一天都那么充实。十二月“醉”了很多次，醉了之后想不起前半年的奇怪的生活和思绪，醉了也会放大所有感情的表达，奇奇怪怪地用完了很多拍立得相片…

一月

过年之前乐队音乐会这件大事终于完成，借着音乐会的完成，晚上的智能柜台的聚餐我又醉了一次：这一年就要结束了呀，心情就像一个反抛物线：如果我又回到那时的自己，我可以更快地走过来吗？如果没有回到山里的决定，我究竟什么时候可以走下楼顶呢？

其实一月还是有件不开心的事，pm把bot的事情给我之后，我一直都处于很纠结的状态：和这边的另一个dev很久也没有编译成功他的工程，虽然没有更多进展的需求，但是对于c#等等所有编程语言的不了解，像哽在喉咙里。

一年的流水账就这样过去，很多很多的快乐和一些又一些的遗憾。

最大的快乐是每个周末都跟朋友们有闪光的回忆，乐队的排练和演出，和交到好朋友。但是经历了前半年心里的起伏之后，以后的我也不会容易地掉入循环之中了。最大的遗憾是没有在课余生活那么努力地学习了，

事情多起来的时候仿佛就把重要但不紧急的事情放到了旁边。

新的一年第一件事一定是set up goal and tight schedule了.

从工作以来的经历看，我感兴趣的一直在于BI相关开发，几个月来让我学习AD,System Center各种软件的时候，总是没有那么有动力；而在做数据相关工作的时候，总是喜欢自愿加班，快快完成。在学生时代我做过各种各样的尝试，那些尝试都没有给我过这样的感觉。

J’hésite entre lire dans les pensées ou la psychokinèse. Lire dans les pensées me servirait beaucoup et m’aiderait au quotidien, mais je serais plus utile avec la psychokinésie, donc à choisir, j’opterai plus pour ça.

Racontes un souvenir d’enfant ?

J’ai déjà très peu de souvenirs de mon enfance, mais là j’ai rien qui vient...

Pourquoi cette question ??? Je pense à tellement de choses en même temps le soir! J’élabore mes théories sur la vie, sur l’art et la psycho, je ressasse des choses, parfois douloureuses, je chasse l’angoisse, je pense à mon ex, au futur, à mes études, mes problèmes, puis à ce que je crée, continuant d’élaborer mon univers, à mes futurs dessins ou mots qui raconteront une histoire...

Ahah la question piège, c’est parce que je peux pas m’empêcher de me lamenter en pleurnichant mon ex et en pensant à l’idée que c’était potentiellement l’homme de ma vie? RATE! J’y crois pas! L’amour est un sentiment très complexe, et il y a une grande part chimique à ça. L’idée d’âme soeur enferme une personne dans l’idée qu’une seule personne lui convient sur cette planète. L’angoisse quoi! Peut être que vous rencontrerez jamais cette personne. peut être que cette personne ne vivra pas en même temps que vous. c’est atroce hein? Tout ce bonheur si intense qu’on ne pourrait connaitre sauf si on tombe sur LA bonne personne (une sorte de st graal qu’on obtient après une longue quête, seulement si t’as pas enfreins tes péchés capitaux). Non, heureusement on aime à plusieurs reprises dans une vie, et LA bonne personne n’existe pas, faut arrêter de croire que le partenaire idéal existe, il aura des défauts, on voudra juste pas les voir.

j’ai envie de dire “la vie”, mais je crois que l’idée qu’on est jamais mieux servit que par soi même est pas mal non plus.

Techniquement, de mon propre corps et de ses composant ainsi que de quoi subvenir à mes besoins essentiels comme respirer manger et boire. Après j’aurais beaucoup de mal à me passer de chocolat, d’échanges quel qu’il soit, de mon chat et de mon cocon.

Woaw, je viens de finir de lire 10 jours avant la fin du monde et je me demandais qu’est-ce que je ferais dans la situation des héros. Mais du coup, n’étant pour le moment pas apte à accepter l’idée de ma propre mort, je crois qu’en plus d’aller dire à mon ex (oui, encore lui) que je l’aime toujours, d’aller foutre le bazar dans les écoles qui m’ont refusé, de révéler toutes les infos compromettantes que j’ai sur certaines personnes publiquement, de retourner dans mon endroit préféré sur cette planète, je chercherais en parallèle une solution pour vivre plus longtemps.

J’aurais dit les années folles, parce que j’adore la musique et la danse de l’époque, l’art (Mucha est encore vivant à cette époque!!) et l’architecture qui s’y développe, ainsi que la mode, la croissance économique et le développement de l’époque. Mais question médecine, technologie, confort de vie ect, mon époque me convient trèèèèèès bien.

De vivant, je me tâte entre Julian Assange et Alain Bauer, de mort, et qu’est-ce que j’aimerais discuter avec lui, l’agent spécial John E. Douglas (dans l’idée qu’il parle français :’) )

Alors en vrai je sais pas vraiment, mais je vais avancer des hypothèses qui pourraient marcher. Avoir de l’humour, même si je comprends pas tout, j’aime rire. Etre indépendant, ne pas attendre mon accord, savoir me dire non, me tenir tête voir même m’envoyer chier quand il le faut. Etre cultivé(e) et ouvert d’esprit. (Etre gentil, doux, câlin, respectueux et pas violent?) Bon puis je suis pas fermée à l’idée d’être séduite par une personne qui n’a pas de sexualité, mais chez moi ça reste un truc qui compte un peu beaucoup, surtout quand c’est bien fait.

Vivre éternellement, qu’aucune fin du monde qu’importe soit elle, n’arrive jamais (genre pas de soleil qui explose et qui, même si je serais morte d’ici là, me fait faire des crises d’angoisse dans mon lit.) et Savoir être heureuse quand je le veux.

A quoi ressemble ta journée idéale ?

Me lever d’une bonne nuit de sommeil, aller faire pipi sans que personne ne vienne interagir dans mon champ de vision à part mon chat, boire du thé à la pêche, que la météo soit grise, voir même qu’il pleuve ou qu’il y ai un orage (ou de la neige, au choix) qu’il fasse frais. Pourquoi pas faire l’amour dès le matin, avoir quelques petits objectifs dans la journée et les réaliser, surtout si il s’agit d’expression artistique. Faire un tour dehors, dans un parc ou en présence de verdure et ou d’eau, arriver à gérer mes émotions aussi. Eventuellement avoir quelques amis à l’apéro, et me foutre au lit avec un bon film ou livre ainsi que du chocolat, mon chat et une tasse de thé.

La saga millénium, mais surtout “les hommes qui n’aimaient pas les femmes”. Je l’ai volé à ma mère (alors qu’elle m’interdisait de lire les livres de sa bibliothèque) et lu vers mes 12-13 ans, dans une périodes où j’étais très en colère, où je ne comprenais ni ma différence, ni le reste du monde. Le personnage de Lisbeth Salander m’a fait beaucoup de bien parce que je me suis beaucoup reconnue en elle, et de voir toute sa force et sa ténacité m’a aider dans ma propre vie.

Chose définit un objet, je pars donc du principe que je n’ai pas besoin de cité des être vivant car ils ne sont pas chose mais être, ainsi que quelque chose de physique et palpable.

Chronique #30 : Les Teasers, tous les mêmes ! (Thème du mois : Les bandes-annonces)

Un slam de batterie saturé, des plans en fondu présentant des personnages qui s’interrogent, des écritures en lettres capitales, une musique marquante, une voix-off qui explique vaguement les enjeux, une punchline finale et le plus important : la date de sortie. Voici ce à quoi ressemblent la plupart des bandes-annonces du cinéma moderne. En somme, une promesse. Le film que vous allez voir, ce sera ça. Il y aura des explosions, de l’action, des blagues, du suspense, des scènes, inédites, épiques, magistrales. Si bien qu’une phrase revient souvent chez le spectateur en sortie du film : « les meilleurs moments sont dans la bande-annonce. »

Je le reconnais, hors pandémie, il est bien difficile de passer à côté de ces trailers. Il faut en voir quatre ou cinq au cinéma avant de pouvoir déguster le film pour lequel on a acheté un ticket. Activer adblock pour éviter celles qui s’incrustent sur YouTube ou Twitch. Éteindre la télévision pour ne pas voir les chaînes diffuser les bandes-annonces des films qu’elles soutiennent. La solution n’est donc pas de les éviter, mais de s’en méfier.

Cyniquement, la bonne bande-annonce est celle qui fait venir un spectateur en salle, alors qu’il n’avait pas du tout prévu de poser ses fesses devant le film en question. Mais ça peut être une bombe à retardement. Un exemple frappant est le film Steak de Quentin Dupieux, sorti en 2007. Présenté comme la nouvelle comédie d’Eric et Ramzy alors au pic de leur popularité, le film fait finalement un flop retentissant. Pourtant la recette était connue et bien appliquée dans le trailer. Une musique entraînante, des blagues absurdes, potaches et visuelles, Eric et Ramzy omniprésents à l’écran et une question : lequel des deux sera un vrai Chivers ? A priori, on se dirige vers un moment de franche rigolade comme on en a passé devant La Tour Montparnasse Infernale ou Halal police d’Etat, que pourrait-il mal se passer ? Et bien tout. Steak en a dérouté plus d’un car ce n’est pas une comédie d’Eric et Ramzy. C’est un film d’auteur, presque de genre, avec de la violence, des plans longs, une musique étrange et du malaise. Et même s’il a sûrement converti certains spectateurs parmi le (gros) lot des déçus, on peut légitimement parler de tromperie sur la marchandise. Est-ce un incident isolé ? Une gourmandise opportuniste ? Une spécificité française qui n’arriverait pas dans un pays bien mieux préparé au marketing des grosses industries ? Ce sont des questions rhétoriques, la réponse est bien entendu non.

En 2011 sort le film Drive de Nicolas Winding Refn, avec Ryan Gosling et Carey Mulligan. Des grosses voitures, du bitume qui fume, des poursuites, des armes automatiques, une femme qui pleure et qui reste en retrait à encourager un jeune homme à la coupe de cheveux impeccable et qui plisse les yeux pour faire mystérieux. Voilà ce que nous présente la bande-annonce. Un concurrent sérieux pour Fast and Furious 5, sorti un mois auparavant. Beaucoup des spectateurs du cinquième film de la saga vont se ruer dans les salles voir Drive, histoire de s’injecter une nouvelle dose d’adrénaline. Qu’en pensent t-ils une heure et demi plus tard ? On pourrait demander son avis à cette spectatrice américaine qui a attaqué en justice la société de production responsable de la bande-annonce pour publicité mensongère. Oui, on ne doute de rien aux Etats-Unis. Comme Steak, Drive n’est pas ce que la bande-annonce prétendait qu’il était. Les poursuites en voiture que l’on voit dans le trailer ne durent même pas 10 minutes dans le film. Il n’y a pas de fusillades en pleine ville, peu de cascades et d’héroïsme, mais un climat noir, glauque, presque crade.

Il serait naïf de ma part de me plaindre de ces multiples exemples. La réalité du marché peut forcer l’industrie à ces manœuvres peu honnêtes pour remplir les salles et rentrer dans leurs frais. Cependant, le « schéma narratif » que je vous ai décrit dans le premier paragraphe s’applique à une large majorité des bandes annonces diffusées. On se retrouve ainsi rapidement noyés par une offre générique, complètement homogène et archaïque. Et pour sortir de cette masse, il faut se démarquer. Ce qui serait très facile dans ce secteur. D’ailleurs ça a déjà été fait, et récemment.

Posons-nous cette question. Qui a compris le trailer du film Parasite de Bong Joon-Ho ? Sans spoiler, qui aurait pu anticiper où le film allait nous emmener après avoir vu la bande-annonce ? Si vous dites oui, je vous crois, mais c’est bien parce que c’est vous. Indéniablement, cette bande-annonce a participé au succès incroyable du film. Elle parvient à créer un mystère sur le film, tout en ne dévoilant rien de l’histoire. Elle nous met sciemment sur une fausse piste pour finalement casser les piliers sur lesquels on s’était nonchalamment allongés afin de nous immerger dans une intrigue bien plus complexe et déroutante. Cette bande-annonce est une grande réussite. Quand on va voir Parasite, on ne sait rien. Tout n’est que découverte. C’est très fort.

Le trailer peut donc être un espace de création, d’imagination, et non pas une contrainte dont les sociétés de productions aimeraient bien se passer, comme le prouve le fait qu’elles demandent régulièrement à une entreprise externe de la réaliser. Grande scénariste et réalisatrice, Agnès Jaoui a pu expérimenter le métier pour la première fois grâce à une bande-annonce. Au scénario de On connait la chanson avec l’immense Jean-Pierre Bacri, qui nous manque beaucoup, elle se voit confier la réalisation et le montage du trailer du film par Alain Resnais. A travers un dispositif d’interview, elle y dirige Pierre Arditi, Sabine Azéma, Lambert Wilson, André Dussollier, Jean-Pierre Bacri et elle-même. On les voit réciter des paroles de grandes chansons françaises, mais comme s’ils racontaient une anecdote. C’est innovant, c’est frais, ça ne ressemble à rien d’autre et on comprend à quoi va ressembler le film. Dans un autre style que Parasite, cette bande-annonce est également une réussite.

Bien qu’actuellement nous sommes encore englués dans le marasme de la pandémie de Covid-19, l’appel de la culture et de la réouverture des salles de cinéma se fait de plus en plus pressante. Nous allons indéniablement être confrontés à une déferlante de films et donc de bande-annonces. De là à dire que le moment « bande-annonces » au cinéma sera plus long que le film il n’y a qu’un pas (qu’on ne franchira pas). Pour faire le tri, soyons attentifs aux propositions qui sortent de l’ordinaire, qui se donnent du mal pour se démarquer. Mais lisons également le pitch, observons l’affiche, apprécions le casting, il n’y a pas que les trailers qui donnent envie d’aller voir un film !

Bước 4: Sau khi có kết quả các xét nghiệm, siêu âm, người bệnh mang kết quả đến khu khám bệnh và chờ được gọi số để vào khám.

Đối với bệnh nhân khám có sử dụng Bảo hiểm y tế:

Bước 1: Tương tự như ở trên, bệnh nhân lấy vé tại cổng bảo vệ (ngay trước cổng).

Bước 2: Đến quầy tư vấn ghi thông tin vào phiếu khám bệnh và được hướng dẫn về các xét nghiệm cận lâm sàng cần thiết.

Bước 3: Người bệnh tiến hành làm thủ tục Bảo hiểm y tế. Sau đó đóng tiền tại quầy trên phiếu.

6th EU Code Week webinar encouraged coding at home and offered a French online course on AI, unplugged activities from Greece and ultimate fun with Micro:bit

Participants had a chance to meet Alain Thillay from the French Ministry of education and youth, and Bastien Masse from the University of Nantes who presented a successful open online course on Artificial intelligence and machine learning. Greek leading teacher Vasiliki Psarithou showed how she uses concepts of computer science to teach in a minority school and Pauline Maas - leading teacher from the Netherlands - showed some great examples of how to learn and have fun with Micro:bit. The recording is available on the EU Code Week Youtube Channel

The first presentation by Alain Thillay and Bastien Masse was about the Class’Code project. It is an open participative solution to help teachers and educators to introduce computer science and computer thinking to children. The project started in 2015 and 70 organisations contribute. This project is about empowering teachers and giving them the right tools to help kids from 7 to 17 year old get the needed digital skills. Already more than 80.000 teachers were trained through the online courses. The latest one is Class’Code IAI which introduces basic concepts of artificial intelligence. The course runs for free (in French) since April 2020 and its principles are: 1/ Question yourself, 2/ Experiment, 3/ Discover and 4/ Discuss. The course helped already more than 10.000 people to understand the principles of machine learning explore the grounds of AI.

The next presentation was by the Greek leading teacher Vasiliki Psarithou (check out her slides) who lives and works in a rural region close to the Greek/Turkish border. Her primary school students speak mainly Turkish and she needed to find a way how to teach them Greek language. She organised an activity called “Make your own rocket” and offered it to 10-year old kids. She developed a simple e-book in Greek where she used concepts from mathematics, computer science and art to explain the process. Students had to follow the instructions step-by-step and build a rocket. Vasiliki also involved parents and the results look amazing. All students were thrilled, some of them shared their creations in videos and over 90% of them participated.

The last part of the webinar proved that coding can be really fun. Pauline Maas (presentation), the leading teacher from the Netherlands, shared the whole variety of creations that one can do with micro:bit. These are small micro computers with LED lights, A/B buttons, light and temperature sensors or a compass. They can also “see each other” which brings a great element of interaction in every activity.

You can code micro:bit in various programming languages. But to start with, Pauline recommended to use the dedicated makecode micro:bit environment where anyone can easily command the device. Teachers can also benefit from a micro:bit classroom where they can manage lessons with their students, see their progress, results and help them when they get stuck. Pauline also manages the microbit101 website where she offers more cool tips on how to use these devices. To start with micro:bit, Pauline suggest all teachers to watch her dedicated EU Code Week learning bit where she explains the basics, provides tips and also offers some ready-to-use activities and lesson plans.

Debating The Future Of Autonomous Cars And Trucks

A recent debate on the topic of self-driving cars went beyond technology issues to include societal, regulatory, economic and ethical factors. (GETTY IMAGES)

A web-broadcasted debate recently took place that illuminated various key issues confronting the advent of AI-based autonomous cars and trucks.

In the debate, Princeton’s Professor Alain Kornhauser opted to take the position that it will be the best of times ahead, and his clashing counterpart was Dr. Sven Beiker, Founder and Managing Director of Silicon Valley Mobility based in Palo Alto, California, opting to take the position that it will be the roughest of times ahead for the emergence of viable and widespread self-driving vehicles.

The overarching theme was whether there is a potential of a “new normal” that might overtake the existing autonomous car and truck efforts in a post-pandemic era. For information about future such debates, visit the smartdrivingcar.com website that organized and announced the event.

The debate was joined by several panelists, consisting of Richard Mudge as moderator (President of Compass Transportation and Technology), Jim Scheinman (Founding Managing Partner at Maven Ventures), Jane Lappin (Director of Government Affairs and Public Policy at Toyota Research Institute), Brad Templeton (writer and industry analyst at Robocars.com), and Michael Sena (automotive industry expert, heralded especially for his newsletter The Dispatcher).

I have crafted a recap of some selected points and provide those highlights here.

Safety And Car-Related Deaths

Start with perhaps one of the most widely touted and yet controversial topics, the safety of self-driving cars.

There are many in the media and the automotive industry that justify the need for having self-driving cars by emphasizing that human drivers are “unsafe” and that AI-driven vehicles will be presumably safer. The basis for asserting that human drivers are unsafe is typically centered on the number of annual deaths that occur due to human-driven car crashes, amounting to about 40,000 deaths annually in the United States alone.

Of course, any deaths due to car crashes is one too many, and we would all undoubtedly agree that averting deaths and injuries from car crashes is a laudable goal.

How can there be any counterargument to the notion of seeking to avoid car-related deaths, you might be wondering?

Some say that you need to put your eye on the ball and not be tricked into looking in the wrong places to solve the problem.

Self-driving cars, if they indeed turn out to be safer than human drivers, which we don’t know whether that will occur, would seem to be a pretty costly solution to the problem of car-related deaths, some say, and there are other ways to deal with the deaths-inducing aspects, doing so right away and at a lesser overall cost.

For example, consider the heartbreaking and dreadful outcomes of drunk or intoxicated driving.

An estimated one-third of the U.S. car-related deaths are due to drunk drivers.

Some point out that if you installed into every car, every conventional car, a device to detect drunkenness or intoxication of the driver and automatically prevented the use of the car in that use case, you would presumably reduce the number of annual car crash deaths by an approximate third.

The cost for that solution is low in comparison to the costs of self-driving cars per se and can be immediately put into use, rather than waiting for the chance that self-driving cars will be suitably readied for everyday use on the roads.

Another one-third of car-related deaths are due to speeding, which again could be presumably solved by some form of speed dampener installed into cars (though, this isn’t quite as straightforward since it isn’t the speed alone that’s the crux of the issue), and about one-fifth of car fatalities are due to distracted driving (one could possibly avert distracted driving to some degree via the adoption of in-car monitoring systems such as a steering wheel that detects hands-on-the-wheel, inward-facing cameras that detect the eyes-on-the-road, etc.).

The overall point is that there are ready-to-go means to reduce the annual number of fatalities of driving, and yet “the solution” instead seems to be self-driving cars, rather than aiming at existing approaches.

So, it is not an argument about saving lives (i.e., all agree to the desire to do so), and instead of an argument about what is the most economical and timely way to save lives.

During the debate, a point was discussed that safety then is not the genuine basis for self-driving car adoption and rather exists as a necessary condition of self-driving car acceptance.

In other words, self-driving cars are only going to be viably accepted if they are safe, presumably as safe as human drivers, or more so, and it is not because of the “safety” that they need to be devised.

Why then do self-driving cars “need” to be devised?

That question opens a cornucopia of reasons, of which, an especially societally-based purposeful motivation consists of being able to extend mobility to those that are today mobility disadvantaged or underserved. In theory, self-driving cars will be quite low-cost methods of travel and provide a door-to-door and anywhere-to-anywhere form of transportation. This provides the impetus for what some refer to as a mobility-for-all future.

Infrastructure and Self-Driving Cars

Here’s another notable topic, namely the role of roadway infrastructure.

Some say that it is the chicken-or-the-egg conundrum for self-driving cars, while others insist that there isn’t any confusion on the matter and that the alleged paradox has a relatively straightforward answer.

Let’s see.

The crux is this: For self-driving cars to readily be able to drive around on our highways and streets, perhaps it would be handy if the roadway infrastructure had improvements to accommodate self-driving vehicles.

For example, the use of V2I (vehicle-to-infrastructure) electronic communications would allow for a traffic light to beam electronically its status to any nearby self-driving cars that were equipped with V2I capabilities. A popularly accessed bridge with V2I could let self-driving cars know that it is closed for the afternoon. While on a freeway, via the use of edge computing and V2I, whenever there is debris on the roadway, an electronic warning could be transmitted to the self-driving cars downstream of the blockage.

All of that does sound sensible.

The question though is not especially whether it is handy, and instead whether it is a requirement or a “must” for the advent of self-driving cars.

Some assert that until the infrastructure is suitably improved, we won’t be able to deploy self-driving cars on any widespread basis, at least not safely so. Thus, they argue that a substantive investment ought to be made into upgrading the roadway infrastructure and that if we don’t do so, we are dooming self-driving cars to be delayed or possibly never able to achieve their full potential.

This topic opens quite a can of worms.

Rather than focusing on sophisticated V2I capabilities, some point out that even simpler aspects such as roadway markings ought to be either redone or upgraded. Doing so would have a dual purpose, enabling human drivers to better discern the roadway, along with making it “easier” for the sensory devices of self-driving cars to also detect the roadway boundaries.

Thus, seeking to do roadway infrastructure improvements or fixes is not the purview alone of self-driving cars. It is something that impacts human drivers, and thus, can be justified on that basis alone. The self-driving car aspects would be the icing on the cake, as it were, and you might as well do things that help both human drivers and self-driving cars, and not do them simply for the benefit of self-driving cars.

Even if you agree that the roadway infrastructure ought to be dealt with, there are those that contend that whatever the roadway is, it needs to be dealt with by self-driving cars.

The posture there is that if the infrastructure is improved, great, and it would be heartily welcomed, but it doesn’t somehow need to precede the advent of self-driving cars.

Don’t get self-driving cars bogged down into the likely costly and years-long (decades-long) acrimonious wrangling about the roadway infrastructure, they say, and instead, let’s make sure self-driving cars can drive as well as (or better than) human drivers that today cope with the roadway in all its pothole and faded lane-markings glory.

Let’s save the bees with machine learning

Machine learning and all its related forms of “AI” are being used to work on just about every problem under the sun, but even so, stemming the alarming decline of the bee population still seems out of left field. In fact it’s a great application for the technology and may help both bees and beekeepers keep hives healthy.

The latest threat to our precious honeybees is the varroa mite, a parasite that infests hives and sucks the blood from both bees and their young. While it rarely kills a bee outright, it can weaken it and cause young to be born similarly weak or deformed. Over time this can lead to colony collapse.

The worst part is that unless you’re looking closely, you might not even see the mites — being mites, they’re tiny: a millimeter or so across. So infestations often go on for some time without being discovered.

Beekeepers, caring folk at heart obviously, want to avoid this. But the solution has been to put a flat surface beneath a hive and pull it out every few days, inspecting all the waste, dirt, and other hive junk for the tiny bodies of the mites. It’s painstaking and time-consuming work, and of course if you miss a few, you might think the infestation is getting better instead of worse.

Machine learning to the rescue!

As I’ve had occasion to mention about a billion times before this, one of the things machine learning models are really good at is sorting through noisy data, like a surface covered in random tiny shapes, and finding targets, like the shape of a dead varroa mite.

Students at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne in Switzerland created an image recognition agent called ApiZoom trained on images of mites that can sort through a photo and identify any visible mite bodies in seconds. All the beekeeper needs to do is take a regular smartphone photo and upload it to the EPFL system.

The project started back in 2017, and since then the model has been trained with tens of thousands of images and achieved a success rate of detection of about 90 percent, which the project’s Alain Bugnon told me is about at parity with humans. The plan now is to distribute the app as widely as possible.

“We envisage two phases: a web solution, then a smartphone solution. These two solutions allow to estimate the rate of infestation of a hive, but if the application is used on a large scale, of a region,” Bugnon said. “By collecting automatic and comprehensive data, it is not impossible to make new findings about a region or atypical practices of a beekeeper, and also possible mutations of the Varroa mites.”

That kind of systematic data collection would be a major help for coordinating infestation response at a national level. ApiZoom is being spun out as a separate company by Bugnon; hopefully this will help get the software to beekeepers as soon as possible. The bees will thank them later.
