Yes No Maybe So By Aisha Saeed and Becky Albertalli Yes No Maybe So is written from the perspective of two main protagonists, Jamie and Maya, by two writers. This is a style of writing that I have fallen in love with. It is always beautiful to read a story from multiple perspectives and see what each character was feeling in the moment, about the same situation. At the heart of the book is a coming of age love story about Jamie and Maya, but it is set against a political backdrop and it poses an important question about the legal age to vote. I find myself believing we need to review the legal voting age, I question my knowledge on democracy and how elections work in Nigeria. (P.S I don’t have a clue how they work) Aisha and Becky take us on a course of navigating a special election and it whets your appetite about how much change you are capable of. feeling like a teenager reading a YA 😂 Q : Whats your favourite YA books? ____________________ 📖 Yes No Maybe So by Becky Albertalli and Aisha Saeed | Mini Book Review . 💭It follows two main characters Maya, a Muslim girl and Jamie, a Jewish boy doing canvassing together for senate candidate election in Georgia while having their friendship turning into a relationship. . 💭Maya is having a not so good Ramadhan because her bestfriend Sara is keeping her distance and her parents are in a trial separation. She's trying so hard to keep things together. Maya is a very sweet and brave character. . 💭Jamie in the other hand is having a nervous break down for her sister's bat mitzbah. He's not good at public speaking but he is good at canvassing that required him to talk to strangers. Jamie is clumsy, but adorable. He is such a responsible brother to Sofie and a good son too. . 💭I don't like to read books that has political aspects in it but this book got me distracted from the main course and instead keep on giving me desserts. . 💭What I like about this book is the Ramadhan interfaith Iftar ceremony hosted by both of the community. They bond with each other like families. Its quite controversional especially with Palestine-Israel war going on. But thats basically how these two communities survived in a place dominated and ruled by the white people. Its about love and respect. . 💭One of my favourite character is Jamie's grandma. She is an internet sensation with thousands of followers in her "instaGramm" account. She's so adorable! . 💭This book is very well written but a little bit too YA for me but I still enjoyed it! Well wasn't this adoreable 😍 Looking at my feed you'd know I'm not that much of a contemporary fiction reader but there's a couple of authors I'll happily read and Becky Albertalli is one of them so when I heard she'd cowritten this book with Aisha Saied I was desperate to read it. I got lucky enough to get a review copy and I fell in love ❤ Maya and Jamie are just so damn precious and it's wonderful to read about young characters directly affected by the political mishappenings in America and seeing the beauty behind the mayhem💫 In the face of racism, trolling, friendship struggles, major cultural events and political stresses we see Maya and Jamie blossom into their own personalities and grow together and it's such a bittersweet and beautiful read. I highly recommend Yes No Maybe So. It's a smart, sweet and hopeful novel and very self aware.
