The crappy photoshop is a bonus for y'all. Graphic design is not my passion. : P Seb is a lot easier to find pics for, imo. Sometimes, Alex goes undercover which allows him to be a bit of a chameleon. Dan has a lot of the vibes that I like, but he tends to have one look, which if Alex isn't undercover, totally works. Analysing Creative Manipulation Images.

TITLE: INVISBLE

YEAR: 2013

ARTIST: Laura Williams

Form: This image shows a young female sat holding a mirror, but the mirror sees right through her, creating the illusion that her torso has disappeared. The Photograph was taken by Laura Williams and is actually a self portrait.

Process: To me, the photograph looks like it was taken to be eye level with the subject (the photographer and mirror), as it is a self portrait this image must have taken multiple shots of the model and the scene itself, then put into photoshop to merge the selected images. I feel like a light of some sort has been used as the skin on the legs at the top seem to be brighter, this could also just be the reflection off the mirror. 

Context/Content: Laura Williams at the time of this shoot was only 18 and was at college, this image was part of a set of self portraits that she had taken and was part of her 52 week project.

TITLE: CHANGING

Form: This image shows a man leaning out the window, with his hand positioned above a car, looking like he is grabbing it and moving it along, creating the illusion that he is playing with the cars on the street.

Process: This photograph appears to be taken from a a bird’s eye view above the man, Personally I don’t feel like any additional lighting was used and multiple parts of the image have different level’s of brightness. Malin was using a Nikon D5000 and the image itself was shot at 18mm 1/500 ISO 400, using a shutter speed that fast means that he can capture the car in the perfect position and minimise motion blur.

Context/Content: Aleksandr Malin is a Russian Photographer that specialises in portraits but his photographs tend to be Abstract and Out of the ordinary portraits, with huge amounts of detail in the scene itself.

TITLE: EXPECTING WINTER

Form: This image shows a female in thick winter clothes using a huge needle to sew a white sheet to the floor, this white sheet is meant to resemble snow and the further back into the photograph you look, the more it looks like snow, this could be too represent the phrase ‘Blanket of snow’.  

Process: There is no confirmed way that Johansson has said about how he made this image, but with him being a digital artist, I can only assume he used photoshop, took multiple images, maybe even throughout the year to get the two different seasons and put them all together in photoshop.

Context/Content: Erik Johansson is a photographer and artist from Sweden, being a digital artist as well he capture his ideas by combining multiple images, Johansson does a incredible job at bringing his ideas to life, resulting in a dream like image.

TITLE: SPUR SERIES (NO.3)

YEAR: AROUND 7 YEARS AGO

Form: This image shows a man standing in the ocean, although I can see his feet are in the water, they way he is standing it looks like he is levitating or almost being held up by his shoulders, In the distance there is a white glowing rectangle causing a reflection in the water and also showing a thin layer of fog/smoke in front of it.

Process: Zillmer has previously gave an inside view of how he creates these images, He uses a Bright rectangle light and stands in the distance to capture one image, then takes another image of the person standing closer to the camera and puts them together in what I'm assuming is photoshop, For this image Zillmer was aiming to get the message about pursuing your dreams and the inherent dangers involved in choosing that life decision. 

Context/Content: Logan Zillmer is a Photographer from the Midwest, USA, His love for Surrealism art started in 2013 when he challenged himself to a 365 day project where he took one photo every day for a year. He believes that this project helped him to develop into the type of conceptual and surreal photographer that he is today.

Form: Trying to select one image by Madoz was a difficult task, but this one caught my eye, from far away it just looked like dish draining rack with some plates in it, but when I clicked and looked into the image, I realised it was a drain cover with plates in it, I feel like all of Madoz’ photos are made to confuse the consumer.

Process: Madoz uses common and everyday objects for his illusion photographs, he typically only shoots these images in black and white. Madoz believes that he can use these everyday objects to create and imagine new worlds.

Context/Content: Chema Madoz is a Spanish Photographer, he wants his consumers to focus and force them to think non-stereotypically, He believes in opening a new world of perception of reality to the public and thrives to create a

Backstory:

As the firstborn son, Aleksandr was expected to accomplish great things. He was only allowed to interact with those in his station, but he couldn't help but notice the differences in the class structure. Nikolai encouraged him to ponder their life situation, especially since their father was secretly from that background and worked his way up into society. His mother detested this as she wanted to focus on upward nobility. Alek always felt like his parents were at war with one another when it came to what they wanted him to accomplish. He envied his sister and the "easy" tasks that were expected of her.  His father pressured him into studying medicine because it was what was needed not only for the nobility but for the lower classes as well. He studied the subject to please his father. When Natalia joined him, he was relieved as he felt he had a better chance to pursue what he wanted to do. 

He was wrong. His sister was built to be a doctor, and while he admired his father's dream for him, his mother had other plans. While their father taught both not to discriminate based on class or any differences, his mother decided to hire military officers to train him to become an officer. At first, Alek felt elated. It was refreshing, but his mother wanted him to climb the ranks as quickly as possible. That, on top of his studies, led him to develop anxiety and worsened his depression.

While under the officer's training, he learned many skills, but he was most gifted as a rifleman and intelligence. He assisted with assassinations and planted the seeds of doubt or hope in those that his superiors said needed it. Alek enjoyed this work but felt guilty as he knew that people were shades of grey, not black and white. There were times where his heart told him what he was doing was wrong and that the state was wrong, but obeyed their orders anyway. He attempted to save those with his medical training that needed saving outside of his comrades’ requirements. He needed to do good to balance out the bad.

 When he caught wind of a revolution, his superiors discussed committing atrocities against the serfs in order to end it. He couldn't take it.  He rush home to warn his family and assisted Nikolai and Natalia with their packing, the three escaping.  He knows he will never forget how his mother accused him of being a traitor - the pure hatred and betrayal burning in her eyes.In the United States, he tried to help his family where he could but felt he was on the verge of a breakdown himself. He started to drink, gamble, fight, and mingled with whores. He had many of these habits in Russia, and there were plenty of times where he was out of control, but he at least showed some restraint back then. It escalated in the US. His relationship with his father in the dumps and mostly ignored his sister.Sometimes, he wouldn't return for days as his debauchery led him to random areas. 

Later on, he started to work with outlaws. Part of him enjoyed thieving and the chaos that went with it. He found it thrilling to put on a new identity and infiltrate whatever he wanted to infilted, be whoever he wanted to be - sometimes this included gangs. He made sure to avoid people like the O' Driscoll's whenever possible, feeling disgusted after he infiltrated them for a few weeks. Eventually, he was instead trying to create his own “trio” of friends and earned his own money. He justified himself saying he was providing for the family since they were starting a new. He and his friends tried to hold a more robin hood appraoch.  One night, he ended up in a nasty fight with the O'Driscolls. He eliminated a few of them. Unfortunately, one of them barely survived. 

The O'Driscolls' colleagues found their friend and dragged him to Nikolai's office, killing the man after he failed to save their friend. The O'Driscoll's thankfully didn't realize Alek and Nikolai were related, or else his death would have been worse, and his sister couldn't have stayed hidden.

 Alek realized this was his fault. He realized he had to be a man and stepped up for Natalia, finishing her training and teaching her investigative skills. The guilt and self-hatred still gnaw at his heart. He does all he can to provide for her and the business, often completing unsavory jobs. However, he still finds living other lives is far more tempting than living his own. The idea of being "just" a doctor is difficult, especially since he feels like he'll just fuck that up, too. While he has limited his engagements with most outlaw clans, he still associates with a few. However, he finds his dealings with the Van der Linde gang too fascinating to give up.

Now, Alek is in even more of a bind as the Pinkertons are now interested in him. Unfortunately, they've been watching him galvanize between gangs and wish to recruit him for this skill and whatever else they may require of him. While he has completed a few jobs for them, they want to recruit him full time. Now, Alek is torn once more, unsure of what to do with himself and how to care for his sister.
