Lewis Powell (né Payne), one of the conspirators in the assassination of Abraham Lincoln who personally attempted to murder Secretary of State William H. Seward. Civil War photographer Alexander Gardner took this picture at the Washington D.C. Naval Yard, 27 April 1865. Two months later Powell was executed for his crimes.

All i can say is that Turn: Washington's Spies is one of the BEST historical dramas I've ever watched. I loved every single episode of it. The characters, the ambientations, the writing, the soundtrack. Perfect. Just Perfect.
(well, expect for Anna and Abe's drama: i've found it unbearable, even when they already had such amazing patners like Mary Woodhull and Selah Strong)

turn week day 3: different time period
this is from what I’ve watched so far, I haven’t finished the whole 4 seasons yet and feel free to comment anymore characters.
Turn characters as students in modern AU
Ben: good student. Everyone loves him. Still a virgin.
Abe: sneaky little shit. C a b b a g e s
Mary: is a cinnamon roll. Too good for the world. Does not deserve Abe
Caleb: is dating Ben you can’t convince me otherwise
Simcoe: uses AI to write stuff for him. Gets caught. Crazy.
Hewlett: uses AI. Didn’t get caught
Anna: if you fail she will scold you worse that’s your parents
André: is reliable with the ladies (also good with schoolwork or whatever). Fucked up real bad one day and got expelled :(
Arnold: is part of why he was expelled. No one likes him. He have no friends.
Lafayette: is Mr.Washington’s fav
Hamilton: is Mr.Washington’s son
Washington: is the teacher

The Peacemakers
Artist: George Peter Alexander Healy (American, 1813-1894)
Genre: Portrait
Date Created: 1868
Medium: Oil on Canvas
Type: Historical Depiction
Collection: White House, Washington, DC
The title is the only clue to the import of this solemn painting, a prelude to the end of the Civil War. Seated in the after cabin of the Union steamer River Queen are Maj. Gen. William T. Sherman, Lt. Gen. Ulysses S. Grant, President Abraham Lincoln, and Rear Adm. David D. Porter. Less than a week before the fall of Petersburg, Virginia, the four men met to discuss the nature of the peace terms to follow. The figures in The Peacemakers seem strangely isolated. Meaning is embodied in their persons rather than their actions. Here, the separateness of each man is reinforced by the paneling and windows behind him. All heads are on the vertical, save Lincoln's. His inturned pose and brooding expression serve to differentiate him further. Behind him glows a rainbow, emblematic of the approaching peace.

I love how Sally Townsend and Robert Townsend were living with Simcoe and they were both spies.
Robert was Culper Jr and was one of the best, if not the best, spy of the Culper Ring.
Sally instead heard Simcoe and André talking about West Point and understood something was off. So she might have told her brother who passed the info.
I want a tv series about her. She deserves it.

Alexander H. Stephens, Vice President of the Confederacy according to Abraham Lincoln, President of the US
Tumblr media
"Well, I have got that job husked out. That is the largest shucking for so small a nubbin that I ever saw." - Abraham Lincoln after meeting with Alexander Stephens who had on a coat way too big for him that made him seem extra small when he took it off

I refused to take that class in Sunday School the first time I was asked. It was not that I objected to teaching in the Sunday School. On the contrary I rather liked the idea; but it was the Rev. Mr. Allan who asked me, and it had always been a matter of principle with me never to do anything a man asked me to do if I could help it.
beating my "read this LM Montgomery short story" drum, I mean just look at this opening paragraph

Turn marching band au
my high school didn't have a marching band, just a regular band, and i wasn't in it (i was an athlete LOL) so this is based off of my one year of experience in sixth-grade band haha. (i played the clarinet btw, in case that's relevant)
washington is the exhausted band director
ben plays the trumpet. why? idk, it seems like his vibe
caleb is DEFINITELY percussion
anna seems like a clarinet kinda gal... first chair, of course
abe plays something dumb like the triangle just to get the class credit
john andre plays the flute, ofc! (and every other instrument. he's a theatre kid, he gets the solos)
hewlett plays the piano VERY enthusiastically
simcoe isn't even in the band but is at every rehearsal for mysterious reasons
abigail plays the bass clarinet. she's underrated like her instrument, but lowkey carries every song
peggy isn't in the band. she does ~choir~
robert townsend plays the sax. he's cool like that
mary plays the oboe and is surprisingly girlboss at it
robert rogers plays the flute only because john andre also plays the flute and he wants to bother and stalk him
benedict arnold plays the trombone. he thinks he should get every solo, but he is wrong (and no one wants to hear a trombone solo anyway!)
lafayette plays the FRENCH horn (LOOOL)
hamilton plays the trumpet and talks ben's ear off about politics every rehearsal
baker plays the bassoon, because no one else wanted to and he took one for the team
and richard woodhull is that One Annoying Parent who spams washington with meddlesome emails about how abe should have gotten every solo

MUSIC MONDAY: "I'll Take You There" - The Best of Mavis Staples (LISTEN)
by Marlon West (FB: marlon.west1 Twitter: @marlonw IG: stlmarlonwest Spotify: marlonwest) Mavis Staples is eighty-four years old as I peck these words. She has been a gospel and soul singer longer than Elizabeth II wore the crown. Many R&B vocalists started in gospel music, though she and her family have always kept a foot in both worlds. The Staple Singers have brought their spirituality, and…

Just because leaders or former leaders had assassination attempts does not mean that they were against the system, nor were their assassination attempts real. These numbers could be exaggerated, especially Fidel's.
