Session 13: Hunting the Hag
The party now faces the threats of Ursalia and the hag’s den...
Aleyard proved to be another pleasant visit. A small, quaint village full of humble people, no secret cults or frog monsters to be found. We split up and questioned the locals about hag activity, and they were more than accommodating to us, especially with Maevia in our group, who the locals seemed to have a great appreciation for.
We heard many different stories, but a few things kept coming up amidst all of them, and we were able to narrow down the likely location of the hag’s den as being in a swamp in the southeast.
I also asked about any powerful priests or wizards who could help remove my collar, and I was directed to the Court of the Hunt Lord. I was also told about a traveling wizard, but running into her seemed unlikely. Unfortunately, the Hunt Lord’s court is in the wrong direction, so my collar will have to wait until another day. Every moment this hag lives, she could be claiming more victims.
More travel awaited us, and although the climate was not quite as agreeable to me as Xueki, I still enjoyed being able to finally see the birthlands of my father. They were as beautiful as I had imagined when growing up, but sadly, not free of danger.
We were attacked by goblinoids along the road. The maniacs were willing to use destructive magicks against us which threatened to ignite the trees around us. I feel glad to have removed their threat from the land, and I admit I had a bit of fun working my charms upon their leader to turn him against his own followers.
Felfedau impressed me by performing a ritual to send the dead goblins into the afterlife. I can’t think of anyone else who would have spared a second thought for them. I am more tolerant towards the raider races than most, I think, but even I would not have done what she did for them.
Still, these goblins were not simply an isolated band of bandits, but rather they seemed to be minions of the hag. This dawned on me when we reached her hideout and we saw watchtowers crammed with more of their kind. Marv and I used fire magic to ignite the towers from underneath them, removing their threat before they could call for help.
We made our way inside the hag’s den, and I felt nervousness well up inside of me. Hags are legendary for their cruelty and their macabre mannerisms, and I feared that anything in the cave might rise up to attack us.
My fears proved more accurate than I suspected when we found a series of pools, where the very water itself came alive to attack us. A group of water elementals with the ability to swap locations with each other, a tactic that proved most deadly when their leader tried to drown Felfedau and Veilour.
Veilour proved too elusive for the elementals to maintain their grip on him, but poor Felfedau was nearly drowned by them, until I used my magic on it to scare it out of its pool. We then blocked it off from returning to its waters easily, while Maevia and Veilour cut the elementals apart.
In the middle of the battle, a two-headed giant joined in, but Marv was able to slow the already dim-witted creature down, making it easy pickings for us to kill.
We continued on from there, and found a camp full of more monstrous humanoids. But Marv and I hatched a plan. Combining our magic again, we prepared to create an illusion of the hag herself turning on her minions and blasting them with magic.

9 September is "Buy a Priest a Beer Day". If you don't have a priest to buy a beer for, on 10 September 5 former seminary classmates will be at Chestnut Brewery in The Gove at 2:00pm. We never had our 50th Reunion in 2021 but this will be the 5th time we have met up. On this festive day, faithful Catholics all over the world take their priests out for a beer and get to know them better. It’s a beautiful Catholic tradition that goes back to the time of St. Hopswald of Aleyard, the first man to take his priest out for a beer. Okay, St. Hopswald wasn’t real, but your priest is real. Priests are people too, and they enjoy socializing over good food and drink as much as anyone. They also have a thankless and difficult job, a job that we couldn’t get to heaven without. Priests are the lifeblood of the Church, and they deserve some appreciation. So with that in mind, I would challenge you to do something concrete to show appreciation to your priest on September 9th. Yes, it could be taking him out for a beer, or it could be inviting him over to share dinner with your family. Be creative if you want, but give back to your priest somehow, and let him know that his ministry is making a difference. https://www.instagram.com/p/CiRirceOPJf/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Session 12: Arriving in Ursalia
Soon, the party puts the frozen land of Xueki behind them, reaching new territory...
Koharu’s minion led us through the wilderness, towards a cave, and motioned for us to enter. We signaled for the Ursalians to wait outside as we investigated. Sure enough, what we found was another shrine to her, overrun by monsters and the undead. We cut our way through them, no doubt to the delight of Maevia, but the rest of us likely just wanted a nice place to rest for the evening.
When we got through to the other side, that is what we got. Another of Koharu’s shrines, run down from lack of use, as nature had begun to overtake it. Like last time, Felfedau got to work tidying up the place, and I lent her what aid I could by using the Tome of Burning’s flaming sword to melt away the snow and ice. In exchange, the shrine provided us and the Ursalians protection from the lich’s minions through the night.
We continued on our journey the next morning. I was sad to see the snow start to grow thinner as we got closer to the border of Ursalia, but I was reminded of why this place would make a poor home when we were faced with one last obstacle in our path: a zombified tyrannosaurus rex, flanked by a few other humanoid zombies near us.
Maevia was just about the most pleased I’ve ever seen her, and ran to confront the beast, while Marv and Veilour cut down the zombies to our sides. I stood back to provide my supportive magic to both groups, while Felfedau ran to try to aid Maevia.
She cut open a gash in the dinosaur’s belly, and more zombies spilled out. I acted quickly, using the Tome of Burning to unleash a fireball on them. The dinosaur seemed to have some semblance of its self-preservation instincts left, as it recognized us as a threat and Maevia in her spiked armor was unappetizing… but Felfedau was a soft target. It snapped her up in its jaws and tried to run away, but wasn’t able to get far before we brought it down.
That terrified me. It looked like the monster had outright killed her. But she was not yet beyond my healing abilities, and I was able to bring her back. The ordeal had clearly taken a toll on her, however, as she looked exceptionally tired and curled up in our cart to sleep for the rest of the day’s journey. At least she seemed to have good dreams.
Finally free of the lich’s domain, we were soon upon a village called Lumberward, and it was by far the most welcoming place I’ve seen since I escaped from my master. Friendly people and pleasant amenities. So far, Ursalia and her people were everything I imagined they’d be.
They even had saunas. I couldn’t wait to go enjoy one. As much as I like the cold, laying about in the heat had its own charms. Marv was even more excited than I was, though I would learn later it was because they used Laborer’s Respite inside the room.
We set out the next morning, all of us feeling refreshed, especially Marv. We parted ways with the escaped Ursalians, who were now free to seek out their families. Then we set out once again, to a small village called Aleyard.
On the way, I got the opportunity to ask my friends about their pasts. Maevia confirmed she was also from Ursalia, in fact she seems to have visited Aleyard or somewhere close to it in the past. Just more proof that good things come from Ursalia.
Veilour, on the other hand, gave a much more upsetting tale. He explained that he has nowhere to go, no family to return to, and he believes his ladies may have murdered his mother. This horrified us and enraged me, and I felt the urge to return to Gunnato and confront them with him, and perhaps my master as well.
Veilour seemed reluctant to accept our help, even though we were unanimous in our desire to avenge his mother. He seemed to think he was wicked, because he felt joy in some of his kills. But not one of us in our group is innocent, except perhaps Felfedau. The very fact we want to murder his ladies is testiment to that.
But first we have a bothersome cult to deal with… our personal demons could be handled in time, first we have to prevent these lunatics from drowning all of us.

BAOS Top 10 | #2 | #131 The Finest Of Beer with Jordan Rainhard & Jeremy Sachedina (Rainhard Brewing)
Arguably the single most fun - and most infuriating - thing about creating content for the internet is the sheer unpredictability of it all. You never truly know what people will enjoy, so you give it your best and hope and pray that your audience is into it. We knew Rainhard were popular, Jordan Rainhard had been a lauded member of the homebrewing scene in Toronto, so for him to finally open his own brewery was kind of a big deal. But we couldn't have picked that he'd make it to No. 2.
The chat was super organic; both Jordan and Jeremy, along with their team who helped us set up, made us feel super comfortable from the moment we walked in the door, the beers were all hits, and the conversation was genuine and eye-opening. We especially loved that he hired his mother to help him out, keeping it in the family. Enjoy our second most downloaded episode of all time!
-------------------------
The Greater Toronto Area (GTA) boasts so many breweries that even folks as prolific as us have trouble getting around to them all. Rainhard Brewing, located in the Stockyards aka Aleyards District, has been evading us for a while now but we finally made it down to the spacious, welcoming warehouse-style location to hang out with award-winning owner/founder/namesake Jordan Rainhard and Sales Manager Jeremy to run through some of their fine brews and chat about their upcoming 4 year anniversary event. Cheers!
Beers Reviewed: Rainhard Kapow! IPA; Rainhard Lazy Bones; Rainhard Rage And Love (Key Lime & Black Lava Salt); Rainhard Daywalker; Rainhard Sweetback’s.
