full disclosure: i am a filthy Homestuck, which some people have already guessed. Yes, yes, i know. Worst thing is, lately i've been bitten by an idea to create a Homestuck-inspired Life SMP project. But not that kind :P

what i'm thinking is a normal-ish Traffic SMP but with a reader-driven narrative, i.e. every few updates a poll or a "What will you do?" prompt will appear and allow you guys to decide the characters' actions

artsyle-wise i'd like to also borrow Homestuck's simplicity, mostly as a time saving measure. Here are a few samples of me trying it out:

those of you who have followed me for a while may have noticed that i took quite an extended absence from tumblr and i've been a bit cagey about why that is. i have been trying to be more thoughtful about the parts of myself i share with strangers on the internet, mostly as a way to guard against people who aren't very nice.

all of that being said, i've just finished my entry for the neo-twiny jam and i think the reason will be pretty obvious for everyone who plays it: i had a baby! (congratulations to me etc etc).

coming in at 494 words, this project has been a really cathartic opportunity to reflect concisely on one of the best and hardest things i've ever done.

with that, i hope you enjoy nine months out.

Choose a random WIP and talk about it.

Since it's my most recent WIP, I'll talk about my Witcher!Yennefer Yennskier fic, which I've tentatively titled Thorn In Your Side (though let's be real, I'll probably be changing that to a TAD or Crane Wives lyric at some point.) It's a prompt fill for the Witcher Rarepair Prompt Fest, which has gotten entirely away from me, as is my way.

The concept is that Witcher!Yennefer saves Jaskier from being a human sacrifice. Jaskier, who is a part-Fae who followed a lover into the Fae Realm in the 13th century and returned to the human world to realize that 800 years had passed, still occasionally struggles to adjust to modern norms. He decides that the best way to court Yennefer is to set her up to keep saving his life, because she's a witcher and that's what witchers do, right?

Hence Jaskier arranging it so that he keeps getting tied to railroad tracks, dangled from buildings, menaced by vampires who aren't getting paid enough for this, etc. Meanwhile, Yennefer's fellow witchers and Triss are delighted by all of this and are taking bets on how long it will take for Yennefer to either kill Jaskier or take him to bed.

Given who I am as a person, it will probably take about 20-30K words. (Please let it only be 20-30K words.)

Honestly it really rankles the way that “I’m not like other girls” is treated as shorthand for “I’ve internalized cultural messages that women don’t have depth and interiority and I don’t want to believe that of myself so I’m going to throw other girls under the bus to feel better about myself/try to deflect men’s hatred”. Like yeah, obviously that happens, but to act like that’s the only reason young girls would say that is really unfair.

Sometimes the defensiveness of “I’m not like other girls” is more like “well, I didn’t want to sit at your stupid table anyway!”

Sometimes the hatred you’re deflecting isn’t society’s disdain of femininity but your own feeling of failing to perform it correctly. It’s an entirely different kind of internalized misogyny.

Sometimes you genuinely think you’re not like other girls because it feels like you’re missing something. Like the other girls got some kind of handbook on doing “girl” correctly that you didn’t get, or a gene that made them just know how to act like normal people.

Sometimes “oh, I’m not into makeup, I’m really low maintenance” doesn’t mean “I’m a cool girl and I want you to like me better than those shallow girls”, it means “I desperately wish I could be pretty but since I know I can’t I’ll convince myself that being One Of The Guys is better anyway”.

It’s just…insulting to spend your life outside looking in at the people you want to be and saying “oh, I like it better out here anyway” and have that experience dismissed into “you were a pick-me girl” (which, ironically enough, is a misogynistic archetype in its own right).

I love how I can’t think of posts for days on end sometimes and when I finally do I just end up shoving like a whole new plot point into the tags instead of the actual post. Like... the text area is right there. I can see it. I just don’t use it for some unfathomable cosmic power defined reason. 

And then other times I can hardly think of tags. Life’s so weird mates, I swear.
