Kenjiro Okada: Director

I did some casual gathering on the good ol Wik. I don't recognize a lot or any of the previous works that he has been a part of, but it is a plenty some, so feel free to take a look for yourself. for a better idea, I took a glance at him through IMBD as well. I gotta be honest, not to cause any concern but just to be blunt, it's not the best look. when briefly checking out the works that he's done, a good some of them only make it up to 6 stars. only a few actually make it up to 8. but of course this could be due to a couple different factors, such as the source materials being not well known, or just not that great to begin with. after all he works mainly with adaptation. this could be his big break idk maybe :>

honestly, this could be a potential concern as well. we all know that an unfortunate part of the fandom, especially over in japan, is into things the rest of us would rather not see in anime. I don't know why else yana would continue to add fan-service time and time again(I'd rather not think of her personal preferences). so if this person is really interested in pandering to the fanbase, it may lead to some scenes being uncomfortable... as usual. but, I shouldn't focus on the negative, all in all this looks like it will be a good thing! all we want from an anime adaptation is for it to be faithful to the manga, and especially after season 1 and 2, I think this assurance is much needed. besides, this could be an indication that he will be working closely with Yana, and projects that do so have succeeded *points to campania*. I'm optimistic, and I sure hope that we're in good hands.

Hiroyuki Yoshino: Head Writer

so unless I'm looking at a different Hiroyuki Yoshino it looks like this guy is a voice actor and singer first... interesting. as far as I can see it, he hasn't voice acted anyone in Black Butler.

oh no yea completely different guy, my bad! very different. the Real Hiroyuki Yoshino(screenwriter) was the screenwriter for Book of the Atlantic! sorry. we're all good here, perfect in fact.

Yumi Shimizu: Character design

I'm not really jumping out of my seat to research this one, no offense to the designer, but I don't think we'll be seeing much character design other than Yana's. as for the artistic style of the anime, we already saw the teaser, and I think we're happy(I am really trilled that they released the announcement at the same time as the teaser, the announcement alone would not have had the same huge impact. plus it reduces the fear of cancelation ;] not putting that out there).

Ryo Kawasaki: Music

this is someone I really wanted to look into cause the music will matter a lot to me.

I found it, here's the soundtrack for the upcoming season 4.

with a background of jazz and band(popularizes to fusion genre apparently), this guy doesn't appear to fit with previous Black Butler soundtrack history. but I think that this is an indication that the mood and music of this season may be different of the rest due to it now being a sports show lol. and I think that's good! if done right I think the tone change will be hilarious, or, if everyone hates it, it's easily distinguishable from the rest.

I think this will be fun. here's more. also he looks awesome. impressive guy. man I'm praying for a killer new opening GOD.

Okay, I'm gonna be fucking insane because I keep thinking of this and it is a thought that is CONSUMING ME

I was thinking about the Night Springs script by Alan that you find in the Investigations Sector during AWE, how it APPEARS to define everything that happens in base game Control. But I kept thinking that something about the script didn't really add up

And then I remembered Alex Casey

His entire LIFE is put out there for the whole world to see in Alan's books, books that Casey was not involved with, books that Alan wrote based off of dreams and visions he had. Casey's interest in Alan stemmed from these books, right? That's why he's even noted as reaching out to the FBC to get info on Alan and the Bright Falls AWE

But something not mentioned in game, but definitely on the wiki page for Alex Casey, is the fact that Casey's life shifted to include the changes Alan made in his books

Which is what got me thinking, once again, to the Night Springs script found in AWE. Yes, we have a director and a scientist, yes we have a slide projector and an entity. . . But never once does it mention how there should be TWO entities (Polaris and the Hiss) or how these bureau got the slide projector (meaning that Alan never wrote about Ordinary, so he never influenced the lives of the Faden siblings)

There is also no clear indication about the director and the scientist, if they were allies turned enemies, enemies from the start, or allies the entire time (I even re-read the script pages to double check this, the director is wanting the creature to come to their side so he can control it but the scientist expresses worry as it isn't 'ready' yet)

To me, this indicates that Alan changed certain things to make it more interesting for a single episode of an anthology television show. He omitted where the slide projector came from because he didn't know, his dream was JUST about the FBC. He left out one entity and kept the entity as a singular being because having multiple entities might get messy for a single episode that he has no intention of continuing

The director and scientist seem to be allies, but perhaps its more forced on the scientist's part. Darling and Trench WERE allies, but Darling came into contact with Hedron while Trench returned with a fragment of the Hiss (this is also not included in the script, as the director character wants to bring an entity over that is just NOW going to take control of him, unlike how Trench returned with the Hiss then used a burned slide to open a portal for them to invade the Oldest House) and THEN became opposing forces to one another, thus breaking any trust/partnership they had

Yes, Alan gave the Hiss their words, but that was within the Dark Place. This script was from before that. If he truly wrote of the FBC, he made it a much simpler invasion that appeared to even end the moment the director shot himself at the end of the episode, meaning the events of Control wouldn't have come to pass if he truly caused it

He never wrote about Ordinary, as Jesse only entered his writing during AWE, and even then, though the DLC begins IN THE MIDDLE OF THE MAIN STORY, you can actively avoid it until you're ready, which is something Alan even acknowledges upon a page (he says she felt things around her changing, subtle changes, trying to force her to act which SHE DID NOT LIKE). Polaris is the reason she knows to not take it as a threat though

But you do not have to enter the elevator. You can continue the main game. You can go do Foundation. You can do ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING BEFORE GIVING INTO THE CALL

Alan didn't create Jesse or the FBC. The FBC existed before his script. His script didn't even change SHIT because this is a place SURROUNDED by paranatural shit. Everything he wrote was already going to happen, it was in motion long before he wrote the script. The slide projector was always around, etc

However, this doesn't mean he can't change shit. Remember how I said Alex Casey's life shifted due to the books? That's because he isn't connected to the paranatural like a good chunk of the FBC. Maybe he questioned the new memories of things he KNOWS didn't happen, yet somehow DID until, one day, he didn't question it because, yeah, they had ALWAYS HAPPENED

Unlike say Saga, who questions why people know her when she doesn't (especially Ilmo, cause he did not know Saga BUT THEN SUDDENLY DID?)

Unlike Jesse who might now correct herself with 'oh, I always got this wrong' about Zane and his profession (but it gives the vibe of 'I'm correcting myself because no one else believes my memories)

Parautilitarians are not affected by Alan's abilities (or even the abilities of creatives connected to the Dark Place). Those entangled with the paranatural in specific ways are not affected by his words. They can sense their influence, but they do not get changed by them. They can work with them, but know that this is not how things are

Saga knows her daughter is alive, even when the horror story kills her and separates her and David. Jesse knows Zane is a poet, but has to act like he never was to go with how the world now views him (and yes, I know Alan likely didn't make that change and that Zane himself might have done so, but I still use it as an example)

It just makes me wonder, with everything that Alan has written, who else has he changed? What else has been shifted because of a dream or a vision he had that he began to write down and then, with the desire to make it more interesting, he changed up things from the vision? Small things, things that might be noticed until being accepted as true from the get go?

Like the subtle changes to Casey's life that he no longer questions

And now with Alan coming back as the Master of Many Worlds, just how much can he change? Will they still be small changes? Or will they be larger and more noticeable before, like with the smaller changes, just being accepted as having always been a thing?

And how many people will still fall under the spell and believe them with others knowing that something isn't right?

That’s actually cool and it’s been such an honor and I’m actually subscribed to you BTW and I watch some of your videos.

The show itself was pretty niche and I tried scrounging what I can on some info on The Venture Bros Art Book, rewatching bits of the show for details and stuff, the Fandom Wiki Page, 107 Facts Videos by Channel Frederator. Lots of facts on VBros can be pretty scarce as hell so I had to dig deep on research and tried using what I have.

I’ll try my best to explain some of the entries that were on the list:

During development, I remembered Baron Ünderbheit was going to be set up as a major villain until they pushed him aside in the later seasons. As for The Monarch wasn’t going to be in the first episode. In the pilot, he was actually going to be a throwaway character, until they were planning which villain to add in Dia de los Dangerous:

I’ve sorta confused it with another event where Phantom Limb treated Brock’s wounds during an attack in the mall in Hate Floats S2E2, where the contents removed were: 4 bullets, a blowgun dart, two shark’s teeth, the tip of a mayonet, a twisted paperclip, and a meager handful of buckshot.

Back when Venture Bros was in the draft phases and pitching it to Comedy Central it was planned to be rendered in CGI but wouldn’t work, Jackson Publick wanted to make it 2D to give the cartoon a comic book vibe.

Production stuff going on behind the scenes during the episode, Operation PROM, according to the wiki it said it was the last episode to be animated in World Leaders entertainment. And it was one of the show’s biggest episodes. Jackson Publick and Doc Hammer during production of the final episode in season 4 thought about the show ending there but as just a turning point and not intended to be the finale but they both were taking a break from it. (It takes a long while to make the seasons and episodes of the series)

I thought I saw an Easter Egg of Master Shake somewhere and was a false memory I had and couldn’t find anything about it, but actually found better cameos of Venture Bros in other media to make up for my goof that were real such as Invincible #58 where we see characters that look like Brock and Dr. Venture which is somehow a bit cooler.

And you see Brock Samson in an episode of Henry Danger… no I’m ain’t joking, it was in S5E33, Rumblr and you even see a bootleg version of Molotov in the background somewhere.

So far The Venture Bros fandom is pretty strong on Tumblr and Reddit, some are willing help you out with some information about some of the stuff I mentioned in the iceberg too and some might actually explain things better than I can and might correct my mistakes. *cri* ToT

That was my first iceberg and there’s a ton of flaws with the chart, in the future I’m planning on making a remake at some point it’s outdated AF and was made before the movie came out, also I’m glad you are also adding some new entries in your video too and I can’t wait to see your new video and I hope it succeeds dude!💚🌟

Our story, “Ocean of Horror”, brings us the usual high quality art from Elson, but is special for another reason - the writer is Lew Stringer! Alongside Nigel Kitching, Stringer is one of the most influential writers on StC. He wrote a lot of my own favourite stories and is also the writer who created Tekno, Shortfuse and many other well-known characters in the series. I wasn’t exactly sure when he came onto the book, so it was a pleasant surprise to check the credits for this issue and see his name appear We’re going back to the Oil Ocean Zone as well, as StC continues to firmly establish the zones from Sonic 2 as part of its world. Not that Tails is very happy to be here. As if anyone can blame him for that

After smashing up some badniks, Sonic bursts into Robotnik’s latest machine, known as “The Pump”. He rightfully believes that this was way too easy and could’ve been a set-up

Robotnik gleefully jumps in on a computer monitor to tell Sonic that he’s right about that and this whole thing was a trap to lure the duo into the firing line of a bomb. Not only will the bomb destroy them, but it’ll turn the Oil Ocean Zone into a fireball that’ll have a catastrophic effect on the rest of Mobius!

The next sequence shows Sonic running through the zone while a timer ticks down, looking for the bomb. He’s trapped by the fact that, no matter how fast he is, he just doesn’t know where to find the bomb, putting both himself and Tails at risk. The ticking timer is an effective way to help the audience feel the stress that Sonic’s going through and we all know what happens when Sonic gets stressed in this comic…

…It’s our boy, Super Sonic!

He’s essentially doing the exact same thing that Sonic was, only he’s much faster than Sonic could be. But he’s a double-edged sword, because despite this increase in power, Super Sonic is absolutely out of control and could potentially become a bigger problem himself once the bomb is dealt with

Super Sonic finds the bomb and has no time left, so he goes straight for it. Luckily for Tails, he’s solely focused on destroying the bomb right now. The last few panels are spent on the final few seconds counting down, showing Super Sonic going faster and faster in his attempts to destroy the bomb Also, part of me actually thought the bomb might’ve been a fake-out by Robotnik to lure out Super Sonic, but then I remembered that this Robotnik doesn’t mess around like that, so of course it’s a real bomb

…Success! Super Sonic manages to destroy the bomb and use up enough power that he reverts back to Sonic. Both Sonic & Tails look cheerful about this. I mean, obviously they didn’t get blown up, which is good, but I feel like maybe they’re not as on-edge about Super Sonic as they becomes later on, once they see exactly how dangerous he can be

But all’s well that ends well, with Robotnik being the only person upset by this outcome. And that’s our first Stringer story! I’m not sure if it was the first one he wrote for StC, since the wiki says that was StC issue 30, which we haven’t quite reached on this blog yet (the next main issue we’ll be getting back to is 29), but it’s the first one I’ve read for this and I’m excited to see one of my favourite writers come into the mix. We’re off to a strong start with this standalone Super Sonic story and I know that there’s a lot more great stuff to come as we get back to regular issues for the next update

A Little Braver - 67

And here we are with another chapter.

Yes, the cover image is a big giveaway but who is the one who is pregnant?? Also in the chapter the team attend a fire in a theatre. Before Covid I used to work as Front of House at the theatre here in Aberdeen. Fire drills were a big part of the training and every six months we had to go through refresher course and also a proper drills. I had  to perform a few evacuations but luckily they were always false alarms. And that’s when it get tricky. I had to deal with my share of people not happy and not willing to leave the premises. So the rules was three warming, then leave them and report them to the firefighters. THIS is my beloved theatre and I used it an an inspiration for this chapter. Aelin and Rowan walked hand in hand to the firehouse. The day was beautiful but cold and the roads were still covered in the heavy snow that had been battering Orynth non stop. At the side of the road in front of the station there was a snowman that had been built by the team the previous week. His arms went around her shoulder “Our friend there needs a bit of touching up.”

“Well, you boys can have fun a bit later.”

They reached the changing rooms and joined the rest of the team that was arriving too.

“Good morning, team.”

The ones present greeted her back and Rowan waved at them all. 

“We will be on shift on Hogmanay, we have to think of a menu,” suggested Ress.

Aelin raised her hands “just let me know when the food is ready.”

“I can help cook,” offered Rowan who had been cooking from time to time with high praise for his skills from the group.

“Not just you,” Aelin glared at her team “let someone help you.”

“Of course, cap it will probably be me and Brullo.”

Aelin closed her locker and kissed Rowan on the cheek “I will see you around,” and marched outside the changing room.

Rowan had soon learned that Aelin was always busy, he just had no idea how much until he started working at the firehouse. Some days they saw each others only in passing and during meals.

He finished wearing his uniform, closed the locker and walked to the ambulance and realised that neither Lys nor Elide were there yet so he started doing stock checks as both had taught him.

Lysandra had let Elide be in charge more often and allowed him to run some calls always with them at his side. He had loved it. 

He grabbed an inventory sheet and started doing his job.

Elide arrived ten minutes later “Morning Rowan, hard at work already?”

“I thought I’d get a head start.”

The woman smiled “is Lys here yet?”

Rowan shook his head and Elide took out her phone to text her.

“Looks like second shift left the ambulance all ready to go.”

“Good, let me have a quick look.”

He passed her the sheet. They still would double check things for him. Both ladies had explained that it was not for a lack of trust but something they were meant to be doing during the first few months of training. Rowan had not been offended. As instructor he would check all of his students pre- flight checks. After years being an instructor it was nice being a student once more.

“Rowan, can I ask you something?”

He nodded and Elide sat on the bench in the ambulance “Lorcan, I think he is struggling dealing with civilian life and at night sometimes he sleeps very fitfully. I am worried.”

Rowan nodded. He and Lorcan had a chat and he was aware that he was struggling too and his friend had been ranting about the slowness and disorganisation of the civilian world. They had discussed how to dress. Lorcan had only known uniforms since the age of nineteen. Now he was forty three and had no idea what was the correct dress code for a meeting. He felt weird at the fact that people did not finish the sentence with yes, sir and a few times he had the instinct to salute. Rowan had taken upon him the mission to teach his friend how to relax.

“I know, we spoke and I have been helping him. This is a lot for him. When he phoned me and confessed he quit I could not believe him,” he added “Lorcan comes from a military family. The male line of his family is military. Structure and rigid rules is all he has ever known.”

Elide sighed. Lorcan had tried to explain that to her.

“Even you are something new. Feelings… emotions, that is something Lorcan rarely considered,” he took her hand “He loves you, we spoke a lot when he was on deployment and you were his favourite subject.”

“How do I help him?”

“Patience and support. Don’t take it personally if he snaps. It’s probably because someone had decided to go to lunch on a whim instead of going when told so. Or a meeting late and not having received at least confirmation in triplicate copies.”

“Why it was not this hard for you to be a civilian again?”

Rowan chuckled “there are things that annoy me greatly but…” he paused “don’t be mad for what I am about to say. I had friends and then I was married. Lorcan was quite alone,” another sigh “did he ever tell you about his family?”

Elide shook her head.

“His dad was quite high up in the military and ran the house like an airbase. When Lorcan was twelve, his mother realised she could not take it anymore and filed for divorce. The battle for custody was brutal and they had no idea how much it had affected Lorcan,” he told her “when high school was over he signed up for the military just to stay away from his parents. He became closed off and the military took out of him the little spark of joy he had left.”

“I did not know…”

“All of this he is going through is new territory from him. It will be difficult.”

“I want to help.”

“Then talk to him,” his hand went on her shoulder.

In that instant Lysandra  arrived running “sorry I am late. I need to speak with Aelin and I will be back.”

Elide nodded at her friend rushed state. That was not common in Lys.

The dark-haired woman walked quickly to Aelin’s office and knocked. Once the voice told her to go in she did so.

“Hello you,”

“I am late, I am sorry I had… a crazy morning,” she sat down on the chair in front of Aelin while the blonde woman stood and moved in front of the desk leaning against it “did something happen?”

“Kinda…. Yes…” Lysandra was nervous, something that Aelin had rarely seen “I was at the doctor.”

“Are you okay?”

A huge grin spread on Lysandra’s face “more than okay.”

“Okay… spit it out.”

“I am pregnant.”

Aelin froze and absorbed the confession her friend just made, then she threw herself in Lysandra’s arms “You are pregnant…” she pulled back “I thought you guys had placed the idea on hold for now.”

“We did,” she admitted quietly “after… after Gavriel’s death we, I, told Ae I wanted to try. Your cousin was over the moon.”

“Lys this is incredible. I am so excited for the two of you.”

“Thanks,” she nodded “I will have to talk to chief Harker. I might work until Rowan finishes his training period then ask to be transferred at the academy until maternity leave kicks in.”

“Sounds like a good plan.”

Lysandra wrangled her fingers nervously “I will probably not come back. I have been building up experience as an instructor as a plan b. Once I have the kid, firehouse life will not be good and with Ae and me on shifts, I can’t. At the academy I will have a regular schedule.”

Aelin smiled “I had a feeling…” she admitted “since you started teaching I had an inkling that you were paving your path to plan b.”

“I love this place…”

Aelin hugged her again “I know, but you have to do what works best for you.”

“You are not mad at me?”

“Why? Lys this is amazing and I have a feeling it will help Aedion too, to recover from his dad’s death. You both need it,” then she grinned widely “and you finally make me an aunt.”

Lysandra laughed “I will make sure you and Rowan babysit enough so you get used to kids for when you two finally decide to start reproducing.”

“Ansel will finally have her firehouse baby.”

“I need to talk with Chief Harker before I can tell everyone. At the moment only you and Ae know about it.”

“My mouth is sealed.”

“Thank you.” Lys stood “now let me go back, I left them in a rush.”

“Go.”

Lysandra disappeared and Aelin quickly texted Aedion Lys told me. I am so happy for you both.

Lysandra walked back to the ambulance and saw Elide and Rowan finishing to ready the vehicle for the shift.

“I am back.”

“What happened?” Asked Elide with apprehension.

“Just stuff I had to discuss with Aelin,” she lied and had a feeling that Elide did not buy it.

“Fine keep your secrets,” she gave him the paperwork for the day “Rowan and I got the rig all ready.”

“I have nothing left to teach you,” she added while going through the documents.

They closed the doors and walked to the common room which was empty since the team was probably around the station during all their start of shift checks. 

The morning had been quiet until dispatch alarm went off.

Aelin rushed at the front mustering her teams to their vehicles, she jumped in the engine “did I hear correctly? The King’s theatre is on fire?”

Nox nodded and started driving. Aelin swore, that was a smaller theatre but it was on those that she and Rowan frequented a lot due to its great schedule.

They arrived and quickly parked on the pavement in front of the theatre and saw that people were already evacuating. Good the staff was doing their job correctly. She jumped off the vehicle and ran to the Fire Marshal outside the building “What’s the situation?”

“The fire started on stage during the show. We have started the evacuation immediately and my fire champions for each level are now doing their sweeps, no one has come back yet with the all clear.”

Aelin nodded “Manon, take Luca and Ress and got to the upper circle, the topmost floor,” she turned “Nox, Ren you two do the dress circle, the middle floor,” she looked at the remaining members “Borte, Brullo and Wes, start with the stalls down stairs. Kyllian, I want you to sweep the foyers and toilets but first of all switch off the mains. Asterin, Ansel, with me backstage.” Aelin turned to the woman in charge “we need to get access to the stage and see where the fire originated.”

The woman removed her pass and gave it to Aelin “via the stalls, under the orchestra pit you have a door, it will take you backstage.”

They all geared up and proceeded inside amid the flow of public members still leaving the premises. All the evacuation doors at the side had been opened and that allowed the smoke to be released allowing some visibility. 

The fire curtain had done its job and had prevented the fire from spreading off stage.

She did a walk around and noticed that the fire had enveloped the whole side, curtains included. Aelin looked up and saw sparks coming from the light above. Damn, electrical fire “Asterin, Ansel let’s get a water line and some carbon dioxide extinguisher and a ladder.”

Over the radio she listened to her team sweeping the levels and dealing with people refusing to evacuate.

“Guys, drag them out, I don’t care.”

“Of course, cap but a guy punched Ress. He is drunk.”

“Manon, take the man down and talk to the manager and call PD.”

The three of them re entered the venue with their equipment. They saw the staff in the distance taking out the last few spectators. Good.

Aelin looked up and leaned the ladder against the walkway. There was probably a way to climb up there with the stairs but it would take too much time. She quickly climbed up “it will kill the electric fire then we can attack with water.”

Aelin threw a rope down to Ansel “tie the extinguisher here.” Ansel did as ordered and a moment later Aelin was grabbing the extinguisher and moved toward the origin point and worked on the fire. Asterin joined a moment later with her extinguisher. The electrical fire was put off efficiently and Ansel started the water immediately. Aelin looked down and now clear of fire she noticed a man “shit,” she kneeled at his side and noticed the burns on his upper body. The searched for a pulse and found it “Lys, I have a burn victim, breathing shallow and weak pulse.”

“Copy that, we are coming in.”

“It’s a height rescue.”

“Copy that.”

Asterin went back down to assist the paramedics.

Aelin looked down and saw the three of them coming in. Elide stopped when she realised where they were meant to go. She saw Lysandra speak to her and just her and Rowan climbed the tall ladder under Asterin’s supervision.

Rowan was the first one up and Lys right behind him. She peeled back and let them work.

Lysandra started with intubation and asked Rowan to try and place an IV.

She studied him get ready and was amazed at his skills. No one would guess that he had been a paramedic for only a month.

“Can’t find a vein in his upper body.” 

Lys looked at him “check the legs, they seem okay.”

Rowan looked at the legs and found them clear of burns.

“Good, go with a IO.”

Rowan looked at her in shock. He had only covered that in theory.

“I know you can do it, I am here but I am dealing with other problems so I need you to do this.”

Rowan nodded and rummaged through his jump bag and grabbed his tools. Then touched the leg and found the right spot as Lysandra had taught him.

The woman nodded and he drilled in the bone going through his head all the steps. Once he was done he proceeded inserting the IV.

“That was a text book IO,” she smiled at him.

“Aelin, we need a stoke basket to carry him down. He is stable now.”

Her friend shouted some order over the radio and a few minutes later they had Brullo running inside. Aelin was at the top of the ladder and threw him a rope which he tied at one side and she pulled the basket along the ladder.

At the top they placed the victim securely “Brullo, I will anchor myself the the balcony and the basket and let it slide down the ladder. I need you to climb up and pull it down as I let it slide very slowly.”

The man nodded and positioned himself on the ladder. Aelin secured herself and the basket and with Rowan’s help they moved the victim at the top of the ladder.

Very carefully she let the rope go one small bit at a time. It was painfully slow, and when the basket finally landed on the stage Ansel and Asterin helped Brullo to disengage all the ropes and lifted the basket on the gurney at Elide’s side.

Lysandra and Rowan arrived a moment later and the three ran away quickly followed by the three firefighters to help them carry the man via the stairs.

Aelin sat at the top of the balcony and looked at her damaged theatre. Ansel had put out the fire which luckily had spread only as far as the stage. Eventually she stood and climbed down, collected ropes and ladder and reached her team outside.

In front of the theatre her team was gathered and formed a cordon to stop people from re entering the venue while in a corner she spotted Manon and Ress talking with Nesryn and her partner.

Aelin walked to the manager “that’s the fire out. We found one of your technicians up in the walkway. It looks like it was an electric fire but I will have to do some investigation.” She explained, running her hand through her sweaty hair “I need to commend your staff for the excellent evacuation skills.”

“Thank you. We trained them quite regularly and I am sorry one of your men got attacked.”

“That will make our incident reports more fun,” she grinned “Is there a way for me to reach the walkway without climbing a ladder?”

The woman nodded “I’ll take you.”

They both walked back inside and Aelin was taken back at the top “stay just over there.”

Aelin moved near to the origin point and switched on her torch and started looking around and that’s when she felt a drop fall on her head. She illuminated the roof and saw a darker stain on the ceiling while another drop fell. She crouched and analysed the fallen lamp that had possibly caused the fire and noticed that the cable had signs of wire damage. Then she turned her head and spotted a pool of water and a few cables inside.

“There’s water damage in the roof,” and she illuminated the affected area “that is also were the main cables holding the lights are attached. I can see the roof peeling off from here. The water eroded the structure and eventually it crashed. While doing so, it pulled all the cables that, once free ended up in the puddle here,” and showed the woman the wet cables “and sparked the fire. The curtains were open and pulled aside and being fabric they just went up easily. The fire curtain being activated in a timely manner prevented the fire to spread in the stalls.”

“We had roof issues last year and got them fixed,” she sighed “apparently not as well as we were told.”

Aelin sighed “I love this theatre and this breaks my heart.”

“We’ll make sure it comes back better than ever.”

The two women returned outside and found theatre staff dealing with a displeased crowd with the help of her team.

Sometimes she hated people. The theatre had been on fire and a man almost died and all these idiots were thinking about were their belonging and a refund.

Aelin walked at the front “Everyone shut up,” she screamed “no one is going back inside to collect their belonging. We will do that and pass everything to the theatre staff and they will advise you how to proceed for collection.” One man bolted for the main door but Brullo stopped him promptly. The displeasure mounted and Aelin had a desire to unleash a hose on them just to shut them all up.

She let the manager deal with the angry crowd and walked to Ress and Manon “How is going here?”

“We finished our statement, cap.” Aelin nodded at Nesryn and then looked at Ress, whose cheekbone bore a cut and a bruise was starting to appear. The assailant was already cuffed and in the police car.

PD left and Aelin touched Ress’ face “he got you good.”

“The arsehole. He was totally wasted and when I told him to leave he started shouting saying that it was just a false alarm and he was waiting for the show to restart,” he explained “I told him twice then I grabbed his arm to drag him out and that’s when he punched me.”

“He went wild we had to call Nox to help us drag him downstairs.”

“Come on, let’s do overhaul, we have to collect all the belongings for the angry mob.”

“I hate people,” muttered Manon as they walked back inside the theatre.

Almost two hours later they arrived back at the station, the ambulance parked in its spot.

East team climbed down the vehicles and ran for the bathroom to freshen up.

Aelin walked back in the common room and saw Rowan cooking and it looked as if Luca had just joined in to help him.

“When did you come back?”

“Ages ago,” said Lys sipping on her iced tea.

“How’s the victim?”

“He’ll be shipped to the burn unit. His torso was the worst part. His safety helmet shielded his face in part.”

Aelin nodded and tilted her head to Rowan “you let him do a IO?”

“He has to learn and I was busy.”

“As long as you don’t get into trouble.”

Lysandra smiled “the doctor at the hospital actually complimented him.”

Aelin nodded at Lys and her friend nodded back in acknowledgement of their unspoken conversation. Lys was making sure that Rowan was trained as much as possible to become Elide’s second.

Then another nod and Aelin knew. Lysandra had spoken with Chief Harker. She was happy and in that instant Lysandra walked to the middle of the common room and called for attention.

“I have an announcement,” she shouted and smiled “We have a firehouse baby on the way.”

Chaos erupted and everyone rushed to Lysandra to hug her while Ansel ran around the room shouting firehouse baby.

Aelin was leaning against the wall and watched her team celebrate. They all deserved that moment of happiness. From across the room she saw Rowan smiling at her. Her hunch had been right.

“So, who won the bet?’ She asked from her spot. 

“Asterin is the one who got closer and said the end of November. Everyone else had summer or spring,” announced Nox who had been the one in charge of this betting pool.

Not long after Rowan announced lunch was ready and Ress took over and started distributing the food around while he sat down beside Aelin and kissed her forehead “our theatre is out of action,” he said quietly.

Aelin sighed heavily “I know, and probably for a while. It was a roof problem. Water leaked, damaged the structure and wires snapped and puff,” she squeezed his hand under the table “I am proud of you.”

His grin was beautiful.

In the afternoon Lorcan, Connall and Vaughan popped in for a visit and Elide walked quickly to her boyfriend stamping a kiss on his lips. Lorcan had eventually dropped the mask at least at the station. They had seen him with Elide enough that there was no point lying anymore.

“Hi guys,”

The four walked in the common room and were welcomed by the whole team. Rowan smiled wickedly at Lorcan when he saw him with an arm around her shoulder.

“You just missed lunch, but you can have coffee or tea.”

“Lor and I will take coffee, Vaughan is posh and takes tea.”

The group started laughing and Ren started preparing the drinks while the three sat down.

“Bored with civilian life already?” Asked Rowan while sipping his coffee.

“No, we just went to sign some documents to start with flight school.”

Ress’ ears perked up “Flight school? As you in you are going to flight school?”

Vaughan laughed “no, we are opening one.”

Ress raised his hand “once you are up and running you already have a customer. I want a PPL.”

“We have an eager bunny.”

“Are you kidding me?” The man was excited “I was not good enough for the airforce but I can do this,” he turned to Aelin “I am not bailing. But it will allow me to fly air ambulances as well. Apparently they have a chronic shortage of pilots. Of course all on my days off.”

Aelin smiled “look at you all, coming here and giving my firefighters a plan b.”

“Oh, we are not stealing your firefighters, captain, don’t worry,” added Vaughan while sipping his tea. The guys had started visiting the firehouse on odd occasions and the team had got accustomed to them. Lorcan was of course a guest ad honorem since he was dating Elide. From time to time they would also pop into south station and check on Fenrys. 

Rowan stared at her from the corner and smiled “As long as you let Vaughan and Con do all the teaching. Lor has little patience,” he grinned staring at his friend.

Lorcan, while holding his mug lifted his middle finger and the station burst out laughing now accustomed to their antics.

“Anyway, Ress, if you really want to do it, let us know and we will give you an amazing discount.”

“Rowan, you are not helping them teach?” The question had come from Asterin.

Aelin looked at him and saw his face turn dark. She knew Rowan still had the occasional itch to fly and remembered their discussion during the wildfires. She knew he missed flying but he had told her that he had no intention on joining his former team in their new adventure. He had confessed that he wanted to concentrate on his new career and just borrow a plane only when he felt the need to be in the skies once more. Aelin had a feeling that the idea of teaching was still a sore topic. He had loved to be an instructor while still in the airforce and losing that had been the hardest part of his breakup with the force.

“No, but I might go and fly when I feel the itch for it. I will leave the teaching to them.”

Aelin looked at Asterin and gave a look to tell her to drop the subject.

Later on in the afternoon, Aelin was in her office when someone knocked. She lifted her head from the paperwork and spotted Rowan “Come in.”

“You were, right,” he told her while sitting on the chair opposite to her. Aelin looked at him in a question.

“About Lys.”

She grinned “I had a feeling. Yes, they told us all they were waiting but no one believed them. Lys had always wanted kids and don’t get me started on Aedion.”

Rowan chuckled.

“And I was also right on her plan b. Lys has been building experience as an instructor just for this,” explained Aelin “Firehouse life is hard with kids, so she will become a teacher and have a regular life with decent hours.”

Rowan sighed “she is an incredible teacher and a skilled paramedic. I have learned so much from her already.”

“Keep learning, because you might get to stay here with Elide as her second,” she paused “I am not saying it will happen, Chief Harker assigns paramedics I have no say, but Lys will and I am sure she will do all she can to leave Elide with a partner she trusts and likes.”

Rowan looked outside the window “I know that I have been a paramedic for only a month, but I love this job deeply. All my life all I wanted to do was fly. I thought that my life began and ended with the airforce and my plane,” and deep sigh “but this job makes me happy in a way the airforce never did. I love it. Even on the tough days. Do you think…” a pause and his eyes fell on her “do you think this is how it was meant to be from the start? All the pain was a way for us to get to this point?”

Aelin stood and stopped before him, her hands carded in his long hair and kissed his forehead “I don’t know, buzzard. I always think that if the airbase had been in another area of Orynth, I’d never met you, and the thought pains me greatly,” another gentle kiss “but the cheesy romantic part in me wants to believe that we were meant to meet that day.” Aelin rolled her eyes “it was in the stars.”

Rowan laughed and wrapped his arms around her waist “did I ever tell you how I love you being mushy for once?”

She kissed his nose with tenderness “shh, I have a reputation.”

Rowan’s hand pulled her shirt off her trousers and tucked his hand underneath touching skin “Oh, yes… the naughty captain.” His voice gruff all of a sudden. 

“Rowan…” at her tone he stopped.

“I know, we are at work, dispatch alarm…” he kissed her again “I will ravish you as soon as we are back home.

Aelin stood and tucked her shirt back in her trousers and brushed her hand in his hair once more. She loved it. Since he had let it grow it had become her past time. His hair was always soft and always mused how it was possible that it was better than hers. She was jealous.

Rowan stood and kissed her one last time “I’ll let you work. I’ll go back annoying Lorcan.”

“You are mean.”

The grin he gave before leaving the office was one of the most stunning thing she ever saw.

I absolutely love your post on Silas attacking Dylan at the radio station, especially your headcanon about him enjoying the camp’s music. According to the wiki, he also shows up at the scrapyard when Ryan and Kait go looking for the rotor arm which is weird since Caleb would seem like a better candidate (he works there after all)

That's another really weird thing - it says Silas 'potentially' attacks Dylan, but I think that's because it wasn't updated once they realized it's two different werewolves that can go to the scrapyard

Silas only shows up if Kaitlyn goes alone. When Kaitlyn and Dylan go, it's Caleb there.

Considering it might be the only instance of a major change in the werewolf activity depending on who is alive or not, I double checked this one

Riddle me this: why send a whole different werewolf to the scrapyard?

Considering Caleb can kill Dylan, I wonder it has something to do with the fact that maybe, juuuust maybe, Silas can't.

And you know what let's just double down at this point. New theories:

Kaitlyn only goes to the scrapyard alone if she basically gets Dylan killed (failing to hit werewolf Emma two separate times)

Maybe Silas is targeting Kaitlyn on purpose if she gets to the scrapyard alone. Maybe Silas bit Dylan on purpose - werewolves don't attack other werewolves, after all. Maybe Silas has a soft spot for the boy that runs the radio and he never got wrapped up in the werewolf feeding frenzy at all.

He only has the chance to infect Dylan. And prior to him being hunted in chapter 10, he only has the chance to kill Kaitlyn if she gets Dylan killed.

Shadow has never been stated to be 18 or 20 though, he has only ever been stated to be physically 15 /nm

(Long post ahead. Tags are also important in advance. I will admit this post spirals into a tangent on how this matter started as well as stuff about other characters, and despite all linking together under the same theme-gazebo, it kinda derails, so feel free to read at your own pace.)

I don’t know much about the games—and that may make you feel “oh then why are you..” yeah, I mean like I don’t check manuals or have played them but I watch analysis videos, avidly Google shit and revisit the wikis now and then.

Just putting that out there.

The Sonic News Network wiki page merely renders him as ageless, whereas the Sega Wiki wiki page (where I got my information from last post) stated three (kinda) ages for the character:

Well, I know Wikis aren’t always accurate, so to back up the apparent evidence I had, if I’m just to Google his age just to double check—

Hey! That’s the game, damnit.

Think this was my mistake in the previous reply, so I suppose I should apologise. And I do. I think my train of thought was: “He’s 18 years of age (y), with some range in other games (17-22y respectively)”, which isn’t right—but every source I could find on the character’s age came up with 18y and not 15y, so I stand by the claim that even though he’s “ageless” (immortal, basically) he’s physically 18.

It also doesn’t make much sense that he is “ageless”—perhaps due to his origins of being put into stasis like some sort of autobot, or something—when a physical age for him has been stated to be 18 (which makes sense, as Knuckles was, by technicality, the original Shadow, having been invented seven years before Shadow was, and as far as I remember is meant to be a year or two older (16 or 17) than Sonic (15)—it also makes sense because Rouge is also 18, apparently, and I���d have imagined them to be of very similar age). Technically that should just let him do an Edward Cullen and be 18 forever.

(I will note that I’ve never liked the prospect of Shadow being immortal. Or the duration it took for him to come out of stasis just to link to Dr. Robotnik somehow. Perhaps I’m just biased, but to me it feels heavily unjust—I wanted Shadow and Sonic carrying their rivalry all the way to the old folks’ home, damnit. And now that vision is ruined.)

Overall, being immortal really doesn’t suit Shadow’s character, in my opinion, and just feels like a plot point now simply discarded and forgotten. It really wasn’t necessary in the first place, and making him 18 (immortal or otherwise) would have been much easier, rather than the oh-so-enigmatic “ageless” genotype we all know and love today.

To remedy this, I like to think red-eyed Shadow is different to brown-eyed Shadow in the sense of age and therefore backstory. I made a post on it—in fact I think it’s probably the post right before this one on my blog—but currently my main focus is going to be on Prime, which is why I’m now so bitter about Shadow’s age, and Sonic character ages as a whole.

None of it really fits, and I think they all need to be updated (Sonic and Amy’s, especially). I mean, I know Amy’s was back in the day, but with how she’s depicted now as opposed to back then, even post-redesign (she went from an 8yo Sonic recolour to a 12yo what-we-know-now). I mean, I know her main, more “well regarded” character arc is learning how to mature, but with her literally being fucking 12 is just a pisstake.

Sonic’s age is less annoying as opposed to Shadow and Amy’s (respectively) because I don’t think too much into it until I notice it doesn’t suit him due to the situations he’s in. Yes, he’s young and he’s a teenager—a cocky one at that, which is one of the many good things Hardcore Sonic Fans (aka the “bronies” of this fandom, for lack of a more adequate word) praise Prime for depicting—so it’d make sense for him to be such (15yo), but to me it’s make much more sense for him to be like 16.

I’d be willing to say “maybe even 17”, but 16 just seems so perfect and on the nose. It’s such a nitpicky little detail but to me Sonic’s age wouldn’t seem so absurd if they just made him 16. It’d both make an immense difference and yet basically none at all that would force any impact on his characterisation.

Amy’s the most absurd—her age still hasn’t been updated from 12 and even though it’s an improvement from her being 8, it’s still ridiculous. If you’re (and by that, I mean the creators, not you, the anon) not going to change Sonic’s age, at least change hers. To me, she seems like she should be a year younger than Sonic at least.

Same could be said for Tails. To me he feels similar to Amy, or at least in the terms of arcs. He should be younger than Sonic, and either the same or younger than Amy, too. He’s still eight, and with how his character has evolved over the years, especially in the modern era, he needs to be just a mite older, like 12 or something.

I feel like Shadow’s age, I most have a problem with for literally being 50 (I don’t care if he’s “physically” 18 or whatever. He’s not Edward Cullen, although that too is also pretty creepy) and as for the coma thing, put it like this: if Timmy fell down the well at 8 years of age and woke up from his head-trauma-induced coma 50 years later, he isn’t automatically excused from picking fights or relationships with kids.

I added the “relationships” into it because this (the thing with the coma) seems to be the primary excuse for Sonadow shippers (I suppose with Rougeow it isn’t so bad because she’s canonically 18, probably to make her past sex appeal to humans somewhat legal, but still). I mean, I’ve seen the same being said for other ships, but not really. The primary ship seems to be for Sonadow, seeing as Amy’s age is always disregarded anyway, especially in the Sonamy side of the fandom.

Shadow was my favourite part in Prime, I’ll admit—I liked his banter with Sonic, and I liked his voice actor (oh, Ian Hanlin, how I love your vocal range so)—which is why my anger for Shadow’s age and backstory made a resurgence (it was either mid-last year or the one just before, where I went through a Sonic phase on my blog after revisiting Boom, and somewhere during that I’d said the same thing, although not to this much feedback from an anon/anons).

I also made the post about Shadow’s eyes because if noticed they were brown in Prime but didn’t really pick up on what exactly was off until I’d googled it. One could argue they’re red for TV as opposed to the games, but in Sonic X they’re red, like in the games, and in Sonic Boom they’re a more saturated colour, making them mostly dark red, borderline brown.

So, I assume as the modern era of Sonic-based media progresses/progressed, they’ve turned from brown to red. It’s subtle but I hope it says a lot. Mostly for his backstory, because god, do I hate Shadow’s backstory.

BG3 Playthrough: Caught up! Exploring at the goblin camp

(Mild spoilers)

I am now finally caught up from my backtracking to fix the mistake I made, and now I’m moving forward again, and the owlbear cub is at my camp. I have no regrets whatsoever about redoing hours and hours of gameplay - this guy is adorable, 100% worth it. During the redo, I actually caught some books that I somehow missed the first time (one looks like it was probably destroyed in a fight - check areas before you scrap! The others - I just somehow wasn’t exploring thoroughly) I got a little more backstory about what exactly happened to the Blighted Village / Moonhaven. I’m really blown away by the amount of little details in this game. If all the areas are as rich as the ones so far, it’s going to take me absolutely forever to actually finish this stupid game.

I would also be much farther in this game than I currently am if I wasn’t also wasting a ridiculous amount of time double checking things - it is so hard to find actual, accurate, concrete answers for questions that I have. As someone who is used to gamefaqs.com or hell even the big Stardew Valley wiki, it’s frustrating to me that it’s hard or even impossible to find some info. The fact that early access has been out there for three years makes it worse. The info I find is either people on forums making guesses, sparse articles and naked wikis which sometimes are saying things that are just outright not true, or it’s early access info which just isn’t applicable anymore. Frustrating. So instead I waste hours and hours just going around, checking things, seeing under what circumstances certain things will and won’t trigger, etc. “Well why don’t you just do like everyone else is doing and not care about any of that, and just fuck around and see what happens?” I don’t know, this is how *I* like to play the game. Maybe it makes me feel smart to figure all this stuff out.

My current favs to have in combat are Astarion and Karlach. Astarion is a mean little murder machine. I gave him the dark urge cloak I got after (redacted) happened, and it turns him invisible for two rounds if he kills something. I subclassed him into assassin, he has a million items to give him extra movement and attacks and jumps and things, and I gave him dual weilding and two rapiers, so basically every battle he runs around very fast stabbing holes into absolutely everything. And then Karlach, I gave her that berserker subclass, so I have immense fun watching her pick enemies up and fucking SLAM them down into the ground. So much fun. Wyll’s also not bad, eldritch blast is one hell of a cantrip. It’s stressful having so many companions. They’re all so awesome and I want to use them all but I can’t.

I’ve been using the map markers to map out vantage points that have beautiful views that I like to go back and look at, ie the view from the ruined temple that overlooks the nautiloid crash. This game is so pretty,

I’m now currently making my way through the big old goblin camp with the “murder is fun” squad of Lae’zel, Shadowheart, and Astarion; the other companions get too mad when I’m trying to dialogue my way out of things. For goodness sake Gale, I’m not going to ACTUALLY torture prisoners, I said it to make the goblins leave, why don’t you understand that?... in a similar vein… Lae’zel, Shadowheart, and Astarion…. The approval you are giving me is for my clever fooling of the guards, right? You don’t actually think I’m going to torture people, right? This is what you’re approving? Right? RIGHT GUYS?

I just love the little details that have been programmed into this. Stuff like the goblin kids being afraid of the animal familiars (but not the imp or quasit) Stuff like how I played music in the big party and two other goblins jumped in to play instruments. Stuff like all the incidental dialogue and the silly titles the goblins call me (mr drow, your excelness, your drowness, your majesticness, etc)

So much fun. So much to explore. Soon I’m going to have to figure out what to do with the goblin leaders. Gut and Ragzlor I think I can easily take out, but honestly I am thinking I’m going to get Minthara to come to the grove. I think the idea of fighting alongside the tieflings against a goblin siege sounds crazy fun, plus then I can use the hoard of explosive barrels I’ve been collecting and blow Minthara straight into the stratosphere. Probably it will be a little while before I get to that, plus apparently there’s a new little set of tasks to do in the grove to help prepare. So much fun. So much fun in this game.

so like it very much is what if we did avant guarde sailor moon with more lesbians. i already new some bits about it (for example the fact that pearl and rosequartz/pink diamonds relationship was based off of utena and anthy) but yea it's really cool. falling under the scope of left field magical girl (this also includes like kill la kill and little witch acadimia in my mind) it's very good. it's one of thoes shows that, cos some of it is up for interpritation, i had to double check some stuff on the wiki as to not confuse myself with the previous notions i had (like checking if two characters are the same or legit different people) which meant i got some minor spoilers but it's nothing i can't deal with. i'm very curious to see where it goes/how it gets to some rough stuff i know. i love the animation. like, and this goes for like sailor moon and cardcaptor sakura. it's really nice going back and watching the 90s style of anime. very satisfying. the music in the show wasn't what i was expecting but is a banger (i litterally have the appocolyse song stuck in my head while writing this). i really like utena as a protagonist. i love her drive and ferce sence of justice and the fact that she was like 'i respect this prince so mush imma become a prince' yas home girl wear that boys uniform and slay. anthy is interesting. she's very intreging, as she's meant to be, and i'm curious to see more of her personality as we've not seen to much of it yet due to her always trying to conform to what others want of her. nanami is a bitch and i love her. like in the same way people like regina geroge and hether. she;s such a bitch. i cannot wait to see where she goes (i'm ignoring her obsession with her brother. tbf it's very much one sided to the point where her brother just don't really seem to notice to berating her if she gets in his way but yea). then there are other characters. anthy's fience when the shows starts is an arse and is in the like the first two episodes and i don't wanna see more of him but i might have ot put up with him. nanami's borther, i don't remember his name, has a thing for utena and has decided to try and manipulate her. it's not working for him. micky is nice, genuinly thought he was a girl for a really long time, he's just oretty sweet so far. and that's it really. there's the animal side kick monkey. he's cute. 8/10 anime so far

kotaro lives alone

so one of my friends said it was just really wholesome and cute while my other friend said that they couldn't watch past the fist episode due to the weird vibes. they're both right. it's a cute aime about a 4 year old boy who lives alone in an appartment block and the other tenant's become his family. why he lives alone... i don't exactly know yet and from the sounds of it why he either chose or had to live alone won't really be explored fully. like theres hints of what he endured (hell the show is rated a 12 which the tag of child abuse on it on netflix). the friend who has seen it won't tell me cos they're very none spoilery but i also have an incling that it would be talked about in that much detail. hell kotaro's neighbours won't ask him about it properly due to the fact that it could be quite unsetting for him to talk about/not really knowing how to bring it up. but asides from that it is very cute. the fact that he's able to get his family from his neighbours is great. the guy who lives next to him is his surragate dad, the woman next door again is becoming his mother figure, and the yakuza looking dude downstairs is his creepy uncle. every family needs a creepy uncle. (okay but in all seriousness he's not actually like creepy creepy, he has a kid of his own which he can't see cos i'm assuming previous gang affiliation so kotaro is like a suragate son for him but he goes too all in with it). it's only 10 episodes so i'm quite excited to see where it goes. okay but like the one thing that bug/urks me (and it's not the darker undertones of the show) it's kotaros eyes. idk why they're not even that creepy. and it's not like i'm not use to unusual eyes in anime and cartoons. my brain just really dons't like how his eyes are done. like this neighbour, who's like his dad, has a similar thing going on but without the pupils and that's whatever to me. it's kotaros eyes shape and stuff with the pupils that unnerves me so. i hate that it does so. 7/10

Any sonic (not any characters) angst?!? I haven't seen any angst headcanon of him

Sonic angst? Oh boy y'all are enabling me now, thank you for the ask!

I'll do a top 5 in no particular order, heads up it's quite a read!

1. Boom!Sonic's bandages and excessive sports tape, used for "support", is just the aftermath of Sonic's iconic running abilities and generally growing older. Osteoarthritis is common with long-term runners, it's the irreversible degeneration of the cartilage in the joints of your body and causes joint pains. I like to think that's why Boom!Sonic is considered one of the slower Sonics and doesn't have the same "show-off" fighting style as, say, game Sonic. It's pretty sad to think about..

To quote Robotnik himself, "Don't run, it'll only hurt more if you do, and it's bad for your joints - they've proved it."

2. It's staple knowledge that sonic is afraid of water and cannot swim. However, as someone who unfortunately also has bad thalassophobia and general aquaphobia, I feel Sonic's fear is quite misunderstood. Everyone experiences these fears differently I wont deny that, but for me I believe it's not so much the fear of water itself for Sonic. We all know he's claustrophobic too, I think its the sheer claustrophobia the water brings and how it prevents him from being able to run - which just so happens to be a vital characteristic of his.

It's far more prominent in Sonic X with multiple occasions where his fear is brought up, the incident with Chris' pool and the Chris' family boat for example. With the pool, he struggled to run and get out and relied on Chris to pull him up. Yet when he was actually in the water, he was reasonably relaxed? Annoyed, but far from panicked. Even to the point where he was just sitting at the bottom of the pool in defeat.

With the boat, Sonic goes as far as to launch himself off the boat amid the distress of not being on land. Now, with myself having these fears I would never ever dream of trying to get to land (or yeet myself off a boat to be fair) in any case like this. Just the thought is stressful enough haha.

This brings me to a more specific fear that might suit Sonic better, Cleithrophobia is a specific focus of being being trapped or otherwise unable to move properly in an area - such as water or the boat. People with cleithrophobia are often fully comfortable entering small areas that they are free to leave, this would be why Sonic is comfortable is smaller spaces but not when he feels trapped. Being unable to swim does not help the hog either. He most likely feels misunderstood too, I know I do, and the fact it isn't really taken as seriously by his friends likely brings in a lot of insecurity and doubt too. A brave hero such as the famous Sonic the Hedgehog, afraid of water? Yeah, that's what it seems like. Poor guy.

3. He's the CEO of repressing emotions, he practically invented it (/j).

I won't dive too deep, but if you break down the events of all the games and comics and so on, you'll notice he experiences a lot. Held as a POW? Check. Watched his friends die before him? Check. Been yeeted to another world or even universes against his will? Check. Has his body transformed and taken over by an evil force? Double check. And that's to name a few, as you'll know.

These events are mentioned, sure, but it's rare for his experiences to be fleshed out in canon. Of course, it's unlike his character to let these things bring him down because he prides himself in looking forward and not being hung up on the past. However something Sega needs to learn is that "moving on" from events does not always equal to healing from them. Especially as being a main character, think of how important the representation of some vulnerability from him would be. Sonic is wonderfully intelligent emotionally, he's often the one to provide what people need to hear - as mentioned in my official wiki page post here.

So, he practically cremates his emotions. He probably thinks about traumatic events often and relies on himself to pull out of emotional episodes. The things that happened in satbk and satsr did happen, he gets frustrated when nobody believes him and mourns the people he met but will never be able to see again. He's a person who likes to keep things to himself when it comes to emotional well being, hence how Dark Sonic exists. A manifestation of his anger and repressed feelings when exposed to the negative energy the fake emeralds exerted, far different to Fleetway as Dark's intentions are more guided by Sonic's key morals - i.e protecting his friends and bringing down evil rather than being the evil.

A person can only hold in so much, over time it will be harder for him to repress so much. Things like this lead to depression or anxiety disorders, I believe one day he'll break, let him go apeshit Sega - or at least let him talk about his feelings please.

4. Sonic struggles with having too much energy. He often find himself overwhelmed or overstimulated and ends up running and pushing his abilities to get it all out, essentially burning himself out. He feels like he's too much for the people around him, they struggle to keep up with him when he talks a lot about something or another and cant keep up when he runs. Sometimes he disappears for days according to Tails, but he trusts that Sonic will come back.

Tails has picked up on knowing when this is going to happen, little things like leg bouncing or tapping things or fiddling with Tails' stuff. His most noticeable one is the nose rubbing thing, they're all nervous ticks that he has when he feels overstimulation or his anxiety creeping up on him.

5. Sonic doesn't fear death, but fears losing the people he loves.

His friends and family mean more to him than anything in the world, he sacrifices himself over and over for people without even a second thought. His character shows such a strong love for nature and protecting it, he has some kind of connection to the Earth so I feel he wouldn't fear his inevitable death.

If he was to die, he'd die protecting the world and it's people. A hero realises that love brings a duty of protection, and so, love is for the brave only.

I've never written fanfic before but I will try writing this summer after I'm done with uni. Your post just really inspired me to think about Buffy before S2. There is something about her that is less aware of death. She knows she'll die on a theoretical level but having actually experienced it changed her in a very profound way. I do have to rewatch the early seasons of the show however because there are a lot of details I don’t 100% recall. (warning: I am going to ramble about what I've been thinking so far, this is not very coherent)

I don't know if I want him to just show up in Sunnydale or if I want him with Dru in the place he originally was at that time. My initial thought was having him show up at the tunnel right before Buffy sees the master, but I'm not a huge fan of Spike saving her life a damsel at the last minute, so I think him being with and deliberately leaving Dru would mean a lot more, character-wise (Also I don't want the paradox of two Spikes running around the world). Of course, I do want Dru to give him some cryptic guidance, similar to the flashback we see in 'Fool for Love' (you're all covered with her) and the way she guides him in S2 when searching for her cure and the judge. I don't want to make her appear like a jealous harpy because I am in love with Drusilla's character.

As for how he travels back, the easiest is him making a wish, on accident by being sad in a demon bar, however I think I want him to make it a deliberate choice, going back and saving Buffy because I want S1!Buffy to react to that fact as well. How would she feel about a souless vampire trying to save her with the black & white stance she has in S1, influenced by Giles, Angel, Jesse, etc. So I think about him going through the trials he undergoes in S6 but with a different demand in mind (I doubt that particular demon is purely a soul granter, but rather a wish giver although I will have to double-check the wiki in regards to lore). I'll also try to establish some rules on time-travel relatively early on, maybe by having some character explain that the wish has erased that particular future and as such, there is no need to be concerned about altering the future.

I want Spike to deal with Dawn not being there. He puts 2+2 quickly together when realising the year, he can understand why she's not there, but he truly misses her and in some way needs her around, as a friend, a moral guide, etc. I want him to miss her because to him she is family (especially with how much they bond following Buffy's death) and to also sometimes need her around because while good, Spike certainly isn't perfect and still needs a bit of help when it comes to navigating morals.

Then we have Angel. While I don’t hate Angel, I certainly have some issues with him, that become more pronounced as the seasons go on, and with how he acts in later seasons of both BtVS and AtS. At first, he doesn’t know why Spike isn’t with Drusilla and wonders if she’s dead. I want to show that Angel and Angelus are not that separated and have some part of him mourn the potential loss, although only as a passing thought. Angel hasn’t turned into Angelus yet and doesn’t know about his curse in detail so I do think he is more detached from Angelus that in later seasons. I think in later seasons, this Jekill/Hyde act is more faked than S1/early S2 Angel. He still plays a big role (in addition to the council and Jesse) in forming Buffy’s ideas in regards to the humanity of vampires, but unlike canon, Spike is there to counteract it from early on.

Another wonderful thing about early seasons BtVS is that my girl Jenny Calendar is alive and I will absolutely take advantage of that fact to explore her character more and write some fluff between her and Giles. Maybe after Spike informs Angel in a very passive-agressive tone about his curse, he sees the Scoobies seeking advice and Jenny’s identity is revealed earlier than in canon.

I don’t know yet if I want Spike to succeed in saving Buffy because that means no Kendra/Faith and a very big change in Buffy’s demeanour, but on the other hand, I do wonder about how Buffy would tackle the emotional load of earlier seasons had she not conforted death so intimately.

I also don’t know how far I plan to write, whether it stops around S2 or if it extends all the way to ‘The Gift’ (it would be worth it just to reunite Spike with Dawn). I’m also not a huge fan of Spuffy in the early seasons because Buffy is still too young *cough* Angel *cough* so I would probably have to drag it all the way into S5 for them to escape platonic territory. If it does extend past ‘The Gift’ and Buffy doesn’t die, that also means no First Evil in S7 and maybe use that as an exploration of The Slayer and her origins, maybe a Council subplot.

There isn’t a plan for it yet in any way, shape or form but this is what I have in mind and if my writing is halfway decent I might just actually publish something like this. I’m thinking of cross-posting this on Ao3 & Elysian Fields but as I’ve never written anything before, so this might take a long time before I even plan an outline. You will be the first to know of any updates, promise. <3

don’t get mad at me but i can ABSOLUTELY SEE HIM MAJORING IN FASHION DESIGN I MEAN LOOK AT HIM

he’s just always had such a good eye for fashion and he’s veryyy meticulous when it comes to snipping and putting together clothes

chuuya also carries a sketchbook full of designs and his drawings look amazing and he isn’t afraid to just show them off

that said he doesn’t dress like a tired uni student at all, like he just always looks so on-point and unbothered by his five million deadlines

dazai: chuuya, i said this was a CASUAL LUNCH

tbh if he just wore a white t-shirt and jeans i would die maybe he’s actually saving us from this ordeal

he has so much talent though as a designer he’s probably had several internships with design companies all throughout his years at uni

i feel like chuuya’s also really active in extracurriculars and has been in leadership positions in some of them (he probably runs the student org for fashion design)

chuuya in a student band though oh my gosh i can’t breathe i can’t breathe him as a VOCALIST?? and wearing torn jeans and eyeliner and that same hat in concerts ican’t brEATHE

okay in all honesty he would thrive being in a band chuuya loves the attention and the creativity of being able to design their whole look and write songs

tbh i don’t know if he’d have a roommate chuuya’s probably the type who’d rather have one of those single rooms or just rent a flat for him to stay in even after graduation

because his social life is super vibrant, he does have a lot of friends and he does make an effort to get to know all of them individually 

but he’s more open around those who he’s been friends with for a really long time and as much as he’d like to say dazai isn’t one of them, he is

also chuuya is definitely the type to party hard during the weekends and has more than once crashed in someone’s house after drinking too much (dazai drew on his face on more than one occasion)

Oda Sakunosuke:

i love this man SO MUCH you guys have no idea i would literally die for him

100% this guy majors in creative writing because this is supported by FACTS and not just me wanting to be coursemates with him in this fictional world

super serious and diligent with his work especially since he’s passionate about writing. he loves to read in his spare time and is such a fan of classic novels about social realism or philosophy

oda spends 99% of his time in second-hand bookshops that the owner probably knows him by name at this point

he’s super old school when it comes to writing though, like he still keeps and writes in a notebook before typing it up on a laptop and no matter how many times dazai tells him its impractical, oda just keeps doing it

lmao whenever workshops come around he’s super nice with his critique. i bet a lot of his fellow classmates like sending their writing drafts to him

he draws smiley faces and always adds ‘nice work’ on people’s drafts omg i love odasaku

he’s such an old soul, he probably doesn’t do a whole lot of partying but he likes more quiet, private social events like drinking with close friends or just hanging out and talking at other people’s houses

he and dazai probably met when dazai decided to take an intro to creative writing class and wrote a long poem about double suicide on his first day that kind of put off everyone in the class from wanting to sit with him

odasaku was the only one who wasn’t exactly bothered but he did give dazai some comments to help him with his poetry and dazai instantly wanted to be his friend

in terms of extracurricular life, i can definitely see odasaku joining a writing organization and even the campus newspaper. he does find joy in interviewing students for newspaper articles

he’s also pretty into photography and uses a really old, second-hand camera that he bought at an antique store and fixed himself. at one point he won a prize in a contest

odasaku would be the best roommate. he’s super sensitive to when you have a bad day and will invite you to sit on his bed and hug his pillow and talk about your problems

scratch that, everyone talks to odasaku about their problems and now your room is like a therapist’s office

Edgar Allan Poe:

i swear this was the only gif i could find other than actual edgar allan poe

ANOTHER CREATIVE WRITING BUDDY AHHH I WOULD LOVE TO BE BESTIES WITH HIM AHHH

well actually i feel like since he’s super ambitious and already has a fixed idea on the stuff he likes to write, he’d probably double major in something like forensic science because he’d use it to write his mystery novels

omg that’s where he meets ranpo and now pretty much every main character poe writes is slightly based on on ranpo

it’s a problem. his professor brings it up more than once during his classes but it’s poe’s Thing now

he also has such an unending passion for gothic literature and he wears those white, long-sleeved blouses and waistcoats on a REGULAR BASIS

chuuya probably saw him once and was like ‘hmm, i could pull that off’

poe’s daily route is just going to the library and to class and then go home and that’s about it

he ended up working as a student assistant at the library because he’s just super familiar with the book collections and it’s a job that’s peaceful and quiet 

more than once though, he’d just be really in-deep with his writing to the point that he doesn’t even notice that the library has closed or that he hasn’t eaten the entire day

that’s alright though because ranpo always passes by the library at night to check on his friend and (reluctantly) give him some snacks

also since poe’s pretty much a recluse, he doesn’t go to any social event UNLESS it’s a halloween-themed one

he loves going all out with his costumes because he’s a Drama Queen like that but the problem is he keeps dressing up as gothic novel characters and nobody gets it

dazai, trying to guess his costume: umm,, Two-Face from Batman?

poe: IT’S DR. JEKYLL AND MR. HYDE

there was this one time when poe took it upon himself to host the halloween party and it was EPIC

he basically designed it as a murder mystery night wherein everyone who came pretended to be guests at a house and then a murder happened

the only problem was that ranpo was conspiring with poe and it was pretty much unfair

except for the fact that ranpo was frustrated at how bad everyone was at deducing that he ended up solving the mystery for them

Fyodor Dostoevsky:

one of my favorite scenes of him in s3 was of fyodor playing the cello because god damn that is beautiful and therefore i am hc-ing him as a music major and you can’t tell me otherwise

fyodor is an absolute music genius and he was definitely scouted by the university’s music program and then he was granted a scholarship (because in this ideal university, the arts are valued)

he purposely decided to go to a university rather than a music conservatory because he’s also interested in learning a bunch of other things

aside from his music classes, he ventures into comparative literature and philosophy, even a bit of computer science at some point

people always assume that since he’s a music major he probably wouldn’t do well in other subjects but SURPRISE BITCH

anyway, fyodor’s a genius because god clearly has favorites

aside from attending class, he’s even part of an official orchestra and has even landed a few solos 

that said, he’s quite busy and very preoccupied in his own work to actually have a social life either

you’ll often find him rehearsing by himself in an empty classroom for hours and hours on end (someone pls bring him food he’s also the type to forget to eat or even drink water)

if you are able to catch him perform at an orchestra or just practice by himself, it’s quite a mesmerizing sight. his eyes are often closed so he could focus on the sound alone and his fingers move so elegantly along the neck of the cello

(sorry i just love people who play any form of stringed instrument)

fyodor also takes such good care of his cello. also he would probably kill you on the spot if you touched his bow

he has a fairly small group of friends and they like playing chess together (even though fyodor is better than all of them) and just talk about um,, idk philosophy and stuff (whatever it is smart people do idk i’m not one of them)

i have a feeling he actually follows akutagawa’s dark academia blog and loves his content, even to the point of requesting ‘cello player moodboards’

also because he’s a cello player he needs to take care of his fingers so he wears gloves a lot (idk why i find this hot)
