Maestro--This is the most obnoxiously Oscar bait-y, vanity project-y movie I've seen in a long time. Like, I'm not inherently opposed to Oscar bait, I think a movie can be Oscar bait and also good. But this... I'm not super impressed by Carey or Bradley in general (I did love him with ASIB but I think he benefited from several external factors) and here??? Dry as a bone. She was better than him, but WHO WOULDN'T BE because he was giving the most try hard, bullshit performance. And cutting down Bernstein's sexuality to an OFFENSIVE and confusing degree. What even was Bernstein's relationship with Felicia? Where did that shit where she was all YOU'RE SO HATEFUL from??? I though she hated him because he was fucking around their entire marriage (even though the script implied she was... down? At one point?) and suddenly she's all YOU'RE HATEFUL AND YOU'RE GONNA DIE A LONELY OLD QUEEN. What??? And as someone who didn't know much about Bernstein going in beyond his sexuality, I feel like I still don't know much.

Priscilla--Similarly bad biopic anchored by a completely flat performance by a woman who's getting acclaim because she is the white girl of the week who everyone claims is so amazing and transformative because she has no distinguishing features and a flat affect everyone can project onto. Especially bad because Jacob Elordi can't maintain an accent to save his life and the movie was incapable of translating the incredible crush Priscilla would've felt underneath both his persona and his fame. I never got the sense of this guy's fame, and Elvis was INSANELY famous at his peak. I thought it was just bad, dude. And I frankly don't know why we felt the need for this liberation narrative when the sad truth is that Priscilla's entire career has been based on this idea that she's Elvis's widow (when they'd been divorced for years when he died and he was actually in a serious relationship with another woman when he died). And you know what? She has a right to that. I don't have an issue with that. I don't think she would've ever made as much money doing anything else, and he stole her childhood so go off. BUT. That does undermine a liberation narrative for me, and I can't get over it, especially because Priscilla has been so (willingly) in the press for the past couple of years.

Saltburn--Emerald Fennell cannot write a script and Emerald Fennell doesn't direct a super interesting movie, aside from some interesting (if not super original) visuals. I've already gone off about this movie. Barry gave a fun performance. Jacob gave him jack shit.

Anyone But You--I don't know if I'd even be as outraged about this if people didn't hype it up, but lol. It's dumb. It feels like a mid to bad romcom from 2005, which makes it worse in 2023. Finding out that the director/writer directed Easy A back in the day was suuuuch a reveal. He redid the retelling conceit, the Natasha Bedingfield deal, and the obnoxious vibes.

After Everything--Look, I didn't expect to like this, at all lol, but I did expect some laughs because I did in fact cry laughing at a couple of the other movies. BUT. TESSAH wasn't even in this for more than five minutes. Which, bless that actress, VALID. But this was like. Bad and not even bad with unintentionally funny moments??? It was mostly about Hardon??? No.

Your Place Or Mine--Can you believe this came out this year? They created a movie... so dry... and devoid of chemistry. A great example of why chemistry is important and how Hollywood has stopped caring.

Love Again--Sam Heughan. What happened. This is another one where I'm like you could've given me something. It was kind of a Celine Dion tribute piece with Celine as fairy godmother and I love Celine. But so boring. So forgettable.

Ghosted--Hideously bad. Ana de Armas is over for me lmao. I mean, she was already, but I was gonna give her a fun little romcom. Holy shit. Bad. Horrible. I kept waiting for a fun twist. NoPE!

What's Love Got to Do With It?--Bad, racist, I HATE its depiction of arranged marriage and the white bystanders gawking at it, ew ew ew hate.

Magic Mike's Last Dance--DUDE. DUDE WHAT THE FUCK WAS THIS. WHAT THE FUCK. HE DIDN'T EVEN STRIP. WHERE WAS THE STRIPPING. WHAT HAPPENED. This movie, to me, is literally the perfect encapsulation of how bad sexlessness has become in media. Can't even fucking watching a fucking Magic Mike movie without some ass. Jesus Christ. What's happened to the world.

goldmary fire emblem engage. she is one of my favs ever now, but my first impression of her was horrible. i hated her pose, i hated her facial expression, i thought she was gonna be the worst horny bait for weebs and i’d have to avoid her at all costs. but she actually ended up being the funniest character in the entire game, somehow managing to balance being cringe while also incredibly confident? shes just such a fun character. also i love that she starts in hero so she doesnt have to wear the dumbass generic hero outfit. hers is much cuter <3

14. An interesting familial relationship with female characters?

ive always really liked flora and felicia’s relationship in fates. it’s so… like. they both see the absolute best in eachother, and the worst in themselves, and for flora specifically its eating her up so much inside that she cant compete with felicia’s natural combat talent that there’s this growing resentment she knows is wrong but you just cant help it sometimes. and poor felicia has no idea, she’s just trying to get by, not understanding why flora’s becoming so much colder (lol) and distant until it all comes to the worst peak ever in birthright and in attempt to make up for it flora takes her own life but felicia never truly gets to learn why. or you can go conquest/rev where that doesnt happen, but still. its like these two sisters love eachother more than anything but they have the weight of their worlds on their shoulders and cope with it in two completely different ways and they just. dont communicate that with eachother. in a way i think it’s pretty realistic to siblings but its on a much more dramatic scale and it’s so… rrarrghhh

random headcanons for peter, ash, wade, and other characters. (some sfw, some nsfw, so just keep that in mind. most of them are for this fic specifically, but some are more general? idk. some were inspired by other people.)

- peter and felicia's eyes glow in the dark.

- felicia has silver tipped fangs.

- after peter got bit by the spider, his regular teeth fell out, and stronger teeth grew in, along with fangs where his canines would be. the fangs produce a numbing venom that, if injected with enough, could paralyze and/or cause someone's body to shut down and kill them.

he also has spinnerets, but the only time he really uses them is when he's like nesting or courting lol.

- in total peter has been divorced 4 times: 2 with mj, 1 with felicia, and 1 with bobbi.

- peter can talk to spiders, and felicia can talk to cats. i'm sorry, i just think it would be funny.

- the way mj/felicia ended up together is peter/mj/felicia were hooking up during both marriages, and during peter and mj's second divorce, mj and felicia realized they were in love with each other and got engaged lol. peter was petty about it.

mj and felicia gossip about peter behind his back, and try to set him up with people. peter hates it lol.

- mj and felicia bought each other engagement rings and came up with their own separate proposals.

- people recognize peter from the parker industries era and give him shit about being poor.

- clint is still salty about peter marrying bobbi lol.

- the way i imagine peter and bobbi got married was they got black out wasted in vegas, woke up married, and were too lazy to divorce right away. they were too busy hooking up and traveling.

- peter's hooked up with most of his friends (mj, harry, felicia, matt, wade, johnny, clint, natalia, bobbi, luke and jessica). so at the beginning of the story, he feels like he's alienated half his friends, but in reality, peter isolated himself. he's an unreliable narrator!

- peter had some kind of falling out with matt while they were hooking up between divorces. he tries to make amends with matt before matt moves to california with kirsten, but matt forgets to call him lol. later matt comes back to visit and they actually talk to each other.

- ben and kaine are nosy brothers who like to know peter's business at all times lol.

- one of the things that attracted wade to peter is the way peter can eat insane amounts of food.

wade: it's like watching a snake unhinge its jaw. beautiful and disgusting at the same time.

- wade throws a divorce party for him and peter after shiklah and mj divorce them.

- my favorite ash headcanon of all time is that his mom was an addams, and that's why he's so tough/durable compared to regular people. but his mom was estranged from the family, so he has no idea why he's different.

- during like a year or so after the cabin, ash sells his story to be made into a documentary, and later, it gets made into the ev*l dead films. (this also happens in soul alone as well)

i just think it's interesting from, i guess, a meta standpoint for a character to deal with the public mythologizing/sensationalizing/consuming their story for entertainment (ex: the stab movies in scream).

- this headcanon is kind of dumb, but i'm gonna put it here anyway. the headcanon is that evil ash is the one that wrote the necronomicon, and he wants ash to rule by his side when he takes over the world. but the book, having known about ash since its creation, has grown attached to ash over time, and doesn't want evil ash to corrupt ash.

- both ash and scotty are originally from new york. (in this fic, ash moves to michigan when he's a kid. scotty never moves to michigan.)

- ash was a cheerleader in high school. (in the greater multiverse, most of the ashes were in band).

- clint and natalia were thieves before being arrested and drafted into shield's suicide squad. the only reason they got free was because of the avengers.

- after clint and natalia flipped shield the bird, natalia started doing mercenary work, and kept running into wade. the two had met before because of weapon x and shield, but they didn't really become friends until natalia semi-retired. sometimes wade hooks up with clint and natalia.

- logan, bucky, natalia, and wade have all met in passing because of weapon x.

- peter and natalia had a weird rivalry where she would just randomly challenge peter to fights, and peter would show up to stop her thefts.

clint: do you have a crush on spiderman?

natalia: i don't want to crush him, i just want him to know how strong and cool i am.

clint:...

natalia: and maybe kiss him too. i can do both.

- the iconic black widow look was created by natalia after she heard about spiderman. she designed her weapons, suit, and everything. (in natasha's original appearance, there wasn't a black widow look. like the other black widows did not dress like this lol. i like to think the red room saw natasha doing her thing and were like "oh damn..." and just tried to copy off her. then later that's how we got yelena.)

- natalia's version of the serum isn't as strong as bucky and steve's, but she does have enhanced speed, strength, stamina, and slow aging. in this verse she and bucky were both cryogenically frozen when they weren't on missions after they tried to run away together. so later when they send natalia after tony, she's 20 (peter and clint are like 18 and 19. bucky's like 20 something).

- peter and natalia do yoga together whenever they have a day off.

- peter kind of wants natalia to give him the strap, but he has things he needs to work out first.

- peter has a thing for wade being bigger than him. he likes that wade's big enough to envelope him. and his muscles.

- peter kept biting ash and numbing him. ash got so fed up that he put his metal fingers in his mouth like, "chew on this." 😠 and peter found a new kink he didn't know he had.

- peter has issues with people buying him things. this is a huge point of contention between him and wade, because wade loves buying stuff for his partners. ash isn't as strict about it as peter because he knows wade's doing it out of love (ash was a sugar baby at one point. he lets wade get him stuff, but he has rules for how much wade can spend and how many presents he can get him per month. and wade has to let him buy him things too).

so if peter won't let wade buy him something he wants because of pride, ash has wade slip him the money when peter's not looking, and he runs to go buy it. sometimes peter catches him, and ash runs through the store cackling because peter can't stop him without using his abilities.

peter: *stomping angrily through the mall* i hate you both.

ash: aw baby. it's not a crime for us to buy you something for your birthday!

wade: partners in gift crimes. *he high fives ash* this is gonna be the best super soft birthday ever!

ash: better than your divorce party?

wade: of course, sweetness. you won't be working this time. hopefully, peter won't be throwing up. though i can't promise no one will be throwing up because i plan to have copious amounts of alcohol. do you think we can smuggle a horse into our house?

ash: we can rent one for the back yard, but it's not allowed in the house.

I agree with this but at the same time I'm like: you were manage to have such relationships for FIVE years?? How? How can you spend YEARS with a person and don't see that you both are completely different on so many levels???

To sort of maybe help shed some light on this type of thinking: I have a friend who is married, but he and his wife take separate vacations (cruises, getaways, etc) and just trips in general; they’re happily married (as far as I know lol). I mean they have kids, careers, hobbies, etc but are very independent in their relationship. This works for them, but they also live together and spend all their ‘off’ time together (which I’ll say is 60% of the time out of 40% for the vacay, trips, etc). They’ve been married for decades at this point. But they’re able to vibe in that relationship cause they both get what they need/want from each other.

All that to say, my thought is M and J were much like this due to their acting careers—not being able to see each other too often except for dates, week/weekends, events every so often. Still in that getting to know you phase so the other person was still seen a certain way in each other’s minds— cause honestly, pre Covid everyone’s trajectory was very different. Then when Covid trapped people together (as pointed out by a previous anon) it was like oh wow this is someone who I like and can spend time with but not someone I could live with for a long period of time which just brought it all to a head and so they split (or J tried to make it work cause he felt in love and committed and M was ‘lol bye Felicia’).

But it sounds more like your friend and his wife know when they prefer to do alone time (which it totally fine and seems to work wonderfully for them) because they know it benefits their relationship! What I meant more about M & J was especially their differing looks towards the spotlight and Hollywood which kinda affects them both since they went to so many events together. Felicia Hardy

How I feel about this character: I need to read more of her appearances in the comics, but she's fun! Sure, she's technically a Catwoman knock off, but she has a distinctive character design, if overly male gaze-y sometimes, and it's always fun to have a woman anti-hero who can be both heroic and awful lol

All the people I ship romantically with this character: Peter/MJ is my preferred end game ship for Peter, but the dynamic between her and Peter is interesting and dynamic, and I like how it changes over time; I don't enough enough about her relationship with Cindy yet to have an opinion, but that also looks fun, and I wish we knew more about her girlfriend in the Insomniac game.

My non-romantic OTP for this character: Since I often simultaneously like character relationships as both romantic and/or platonic, I like her and Peter when they're not in a romantic relationship as well.

My unpopular opinion about this character: I don't know if this is an unpopular opinion, but I never liked the ret-con where instead of becoming the Black Cat for fun and adventure, her new origin story is that she was raped and trained herself to get revenge on her rapist, only for him to die before she could anyway - it just feels like the typical misogyny where a male writer can only conceive of a woman being strong if she was raped and women can't just be bad without having a tragic story to make them more sympathetic.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: I still think it was a huge missed opportunity for her not to interact with Peter when he had the symbiote in the Insomniac sequel game bc I would love to see how she would have reacted to Peter being 'bad' under its influence, esp with her somewhat turning over a new leaf, but that sums up a lot of issues with the game in general.

was jealous of amazing mighty so she wished that she could have her own nation so that she can finally know what it feels like to be a leader. her wish somehow came true and memoria was a thing lol. also many many centuries later she has beef with tempestissimo and kills him and then regrets it and revives him and becomes eternity. i will elaborate this in detail one day for i am Still fleshing this one out lmao.

6. Galactic

was really upbeat and was besties with spinel but then spinel went missing and then she went cold ooooooooo so so sadddddd

7. Destonio

HOW DID I NEARLY FORGET HIM I'M CRYING. anyways he experiences pain and agony for a few years and gets revealed of The Horrors Of The World™ and grows to hate it. met lumine and was starting to slowly heal but then lumine fucking killed herself and then he became miserable again. ends up killing himself too and then amazing mighty made him a god. good fucking lord.

8. Felicia

no real backstory nothing interesting about her other than she met dahlia and experiences what it feels like to feel Yurious.

9. Dahlia

attempted to off herself but then got stopped/saved by felicia. she then experiences what it feels like to feel Yurious.

10. Dawn

girl finds out about hikaru (who was a popular idol at the time) and then idolizes him and swears to be just like him one day. ends up achieving her goal in the end, but by the time that happened hikaru was already "dead" (or...yk, became a god).

11. Raven

i can't think of one for her yet. i'll think of something eventually. next.

12. Risa

was an angel but then certain events that i have not fleshed out on happened and then she was sentenced to not be an angel any longer and then ends up on rhymix with zero recollection of what happened prior and zero memory of who she is.

13. Unknown Levels

some guy created him but then deemed him unworthy so he just left UL in his old workshop and fucked off to elsewhere. unknown levels was only left with a note saying "main objective of creation: destroy" or something like that idfk.

14. Abstruse Dilemma

raised to be the perfect ruler to the kingdom his parents ruled over at the time, but that gave him pressure and even more depression and anxiety oooooooo. arghena then comes into memoria and snatches him lmao. but don't worry he comes back eventually.

15. Primeval Texture

a bunch of scientists made an experiment using a bunch of elemental pieces of various textures and then conjoined them together to become one. but then those pieces became primeval and she wasn't the result they had hoped for (for whatever reason????) so they discarded her and then she was found by a family and then she got adopted into it yayayayayayaayayayaya

16. Technicolour

used to be such a cheerful kid who loved his family and friends so much. lived in a relatively small neighbourhood that eventually got fucking destroyed in an accident involving the higher ups. before that happened tho techni got sealed away in his protection cube that's in some sort of realm by his father and then boom. he's stuck there for most of his childhood and teenage years. sad. but he gets out thanks to primeval and stasis eventually so yayyyyy

17. Logos

lives in a rich and wealthy family but thinks it isn't worth it since she felt like this isn't the life she sought out for. eventually went on a walk during the rain and found abstruse drenched and alone like a sopping wet cat lmao. eventually becomes friends with him :)

18. Ego Eimi

was a normal angel in heaven until she accidentally did something that she didn't know would be considered a sin. proceeds to get kicked out of heaven and becomes a fallen angel and then she swears she'll get back there eventually.

19. Arghena

random ass bitch from another universe that is NOT rhymix who tries her hardest to appeal to other people in many ways possible, especially at school back then. but nobody noticed her efforts and she then felt like a loser nobody who no one gives a shit about. she then found out she has the ability to look into other universes and then sees abstruse and immediately gets jealous of him because he is everything that she is not. so she travels from universe to universe to find him. eventually comes into rhymix, fucking KIDNAPS ABSTRUSE, AND THEN SETS UP A NEW OBJECTIVE FOR HERSELF: "i'm gonna dethrone amazing mighty lmaooooooo"

shy and timid girl who keeps getting bullied at school no matter if it's middle school or high school. eventually met pupa one day and was really freaked out at first but then accepts him either way. more will be elaborated and shown in side story 4.

guardian spirit for pamolia who was originally a normal girl who liked bugs just as much as pamolia did but then got MURDERED BY MANTIS BECAUSE HE HAD TO. FUCK. anyways more of his whole relationship with pamolia will be elaborates and shown in side story 4.

29. Tempestissimo/Momento

was a devil from hell who then did a good deed which is Not what devils were supposed to do so he gets kicked out. ends up in memoria and is scared shitless because he keeps seeing memories of conflict reflected on the glass butterflies and then grows cold and hostile and needs to hurt someone NOW. eventually has beef with testify and then gets killed by her but then she regrets it so then she revived him and then he becomes momento. also now he goes by he/she good for her.

30. Conflict

nothing interesting she's just there i guess whoops.

31. (Jak)Arta

was friends with hikaru but then had to move away and then had slight beef with hikaru about it and then ends up moving away either way but then felt guilty about it. weeks later he finds out hikaru's dead and immediately blames himself for it. he learned to Sort Of move on from it over the years tho and managed to become a train conductor and learn how to like. make his own little robot friend oh my god wow!!!!!!!!!!!

32. Miracle

suffered through abuse by her mother for years on end and when she finally gets out from that situation the damage is already done. eventually gains magical girl powers and is tasked to guard the miracle forest in phi central.

33. Ether Strike

lived a life filled with happiness and good memories but eventually got bored of it. the memories he made gets stored in glass butterflies that flutter around behind him and then one day they all hover over him and trapped him within them to the point where he nearly lost his mind over how bright it is in the glass butterfly seal lmao. gets rescued by ray afterwards. hasn't realized One Thing about him yet tho.

34. Axium Crisis and Lady

axium took lady to the vicious labyrinth in the lost world area because he has been curious about it for god knows how long. gets in, tries to collect all of the conflict glass butterflies with lady, and then he decided to play the hero and literally destroy the labyrinth to the best of his ability to the point where it goes BOOM POUSH KACHOW onto the ground. axium was safe but then lady saw an anomaly and was traumatized ever since. axium felt bad since lady blamed it all on him and then he just. lost his old self and became more hostile and constantly blaming himself for hurting lady.

35. Aegleseeker

tries to find lost light in the area in memoria he lives in, ends up getting into an entirely different universe that's just pitch black, has a panic attack about it, but then saw overwhelm and she was like "hey i'm here to help you lol" and then they ventured thru the weird mirror dimension together. eventually they found myriad and far away light—memoria's source of light that aegle has been looking for. aegle fights myriad, defeats her, and then they all come back to rhymix where the light is restored in aegle's home area yippeeeeee

36. Crave Wave

nothing much about him for now. meh.

37. Chariot

was alone for some time and felt miserable until destonio and retribution took her in as a member of team destruction lmao. woooo

had history with destonio but desto didn't felt too much of a connection with him. eventually years later they reunite and destonio offers to take retribution in to become a member of team destruction. retri agrees, and then boom. it's like as if he was a loyal dog and destonio was his owner (good god that's a really awful comparison but it's accurate enough. retri's dickriding is crazy.)

Bratz Holiday 2021 Felicia

So two of my Holiday Felicias came today! They’re both mostly alright, one of them has defective/misplaced lip liner so I might leave her as my NIB/display doll (or just give her a nude lip) but the second one is much better!  At first I did not plan to undo her hairstyle when I deboxed her for washing, but unfortunately her hair had so many knots in it that it was impossible for me to detangle her hair without taking down her half-updo lol I don’t know why her hair was so knotted.... it’s the same high quality nylon as most current MGA dolls and I typically have a very easy time washing and detangling super curly nylon so idk what happened to her in the factory, but it took me about an hour to fully wash, detangle and condition her hair, after which I chopped off an inch to alleviate some weight on her roots and add more volume, then shaped her curls with a comb and a toothbrush and now she’s sitting like this until I find her something to wear (I’m thinking Formal Funk Sasha’s gold dress with some accessorizing) :

I’m not gonna do a whole review or anything of her, but my friend at LookinBratz did one if you’d like more information about her along with some images of her full box and stock clothing! My general thoughts are: I overall think she’s a well executed Bratz doll and I think she was a very smart way of both referencing previous Bratz history and making a new doll of a character (and skintone) that we’ve only ever seen twice from the brand, with the added bonus of articulation. I do have some qualms with her release, such as the outfit being a bit boring and the makeup not being amazing-particularly the 2-layered brow highlight of her eyeshadow which, really, should have only been one layer (especially because she is prone to having one or both layers misplaced over the eye) but overall I do love Felicia and I was really impressed to see her being made again (and with the fan favorite Secret Date screening no less!!) especially because even the most damaged, used, incomplete Felicia dolls can sell for upwards of 500$ these days.  I also think the way they released her was, frankly, really crappy- they said absolutely nothing about her release and only started promoting her about a month after Amazon leaked the stock photos and put her up for preorder without warning, so by the time Bratz started promoting her she had already sold out at every major retail website. I only managed to get mine by getting the (leaked) Amazon listing early this year and watching it like a hawk until she went up for preorder. Hopefully she’ll get a major restock but MGA has very quietly revealed that they didn’t make very many, even if she’s not a numbered LE doll.  But still....yeah I absolutely love her lol  Also the bracelet she comes with is real metal and super heavy lol

JP vs. Localization in Fire Emblem Fates: Revelation

(Okay, for real this time lol)

Again, here’s a link to my sources post.

Fortunately, this route follows suit in terms of good localization quality after Conquest. It’s the shortest out of all the posts, since I don’t really have a lot to talk about. Mostly subtle line changes, references and a few key points of information that were cut out. I also went through Hidden Truths and Heirs of Fate to see if I could add stuff from those on here, but there were no big problems that I found.

Once again, the main part of this post will all be put under the cut. If a chapter isn’t covered, it means I didn’t think there were any differences worth talking about.

I’ll use localized names for characters and locations, unless I feel the need to do otherwise.

I’ll be using she/her when referring to Corrin in this post. (I flipped a coin to decide the gender lol)

Also, note that after Chapter 14, the translation of this route on Fateswartable ends, so I mostly relied on the English patch done by Serenes at that point forward. (I also used PegasusKnight.com as a reference to fall back on if I needed it)

Chapter 7

-A minor gripe I have with localization. The JP version compares Touma (Valla) to hell constantly. To jump ahead a bit, I believe in the JP versions of the End of All Sky/Land/Below tracks are even called The End of All Roads Heaven/Earth/Hell. The Vallites are also often called demons in the JP version, and Anankos himself is known as the ‘Invisible Demon Dragon’.

Another cool thing I just thought of too, is a connection to a popular Japanese short story. Zelda fans might be familiar with the story, “The Spider’s Thread”, which inspired the Ancient Cistern dungeon in Skyward Sword.

The beginning of the story has Buddha walking through paradise (heaven), before coming across a pond. The pond is filled with crystal clear water, and covered with water lilies/lotuses. As Buddha gazes further into the pond, he begins to see the depths of hell.

Sound familiar? “Azura is walking through Hoshido, before coming across a lake. The lake is filled with crystal clear water, and when she gazes into the lake she sees the fallen kingdom of her birth. Valla, the kingdom associated with water lilies/lotuses in the game, has been turned into hell itself.”

This association loses its meaning a bit when the comparisons to hell are a bit toned down, as well as when the Buddhist inspirations were kind of supplanted in favor of Greek renames. It’s not supremely important to the plot as a whole, but it’s something interesting I wanted to bring up.

-In the JP version, while explaining what happened in Valla, Azura eventually says “Using the art of manipulating people’s souls, he (Hydra/Anankos) made the people kill each other.” This bit of the people killing each other was cut in localization.

Chapter 12

-In the JP version, when Corrin asks Flora if she knows anything about dragons, Flora says “Sorry, I don’t know…The ancestral dragon of the Ice Clan has already perished and isn’t part of the legend. I don’t know what role it plays, sorry…” Localization makes her response “I'm sorry, but I can't think of anything... They've been gone so long that we don't even have tales of dragons in the Ice Tribe. I'm sorry I couldn't be of more assistance...”

So, the JP version explicitly says the Ice Dragon is dead (I believe Fates’ second artbook mentioned this as well), whereas the localization only says the First Dragons have been gone for a long time.

Chapter 16

-There’s not really much of a problem that I have with what Ryoma says about Corrin “having leadership qualities at a young age” but I wanted to do comparisons regardless cuz the word choice might lead one to different conclusions. In localization, Ryoma says this:

Ryoma: Huh... So she told us the same thing... I don't think it's in Corrin's nature to lie. And there's a leadership quality about her that just attracts followers. I remember being jealous of her as a child, in fact. Even at such a young age, she displayed the characteristics of a ruler. Silly to be jealous of her, right?

In the JP version, Ryoma says this:

Ryoma: Oh... So, she told you the same thing. …Corrin isn’t one to tell lies. She’s been like that since childhood. She’s always genuine and honest... She has this mysterious appeal that draws people to her. Seeing my younger sister with the qualities of being a ruler... Honestly, it makes me feel envious. …What a ridiculous thing to say, right?

Again, I don’t necessarily have a problem with how it was localized, but some might. The localization version might have people think that Corrin somehow was a fantastic leader at such a young age, but JP is more clear that it was about the qualities she had at a young age that would be valuable as a leader.

Chapter 19

-A minor gripe. In the localization, Azura says that Anankos uses his magic to send Vallites to Nohr and Hoshido to stir up conflict. In the JP version, she says he uses magic, along with the help of a body of water. That’s why whenever you fight Vallites outside of Valla proper, there’s a body of water nearby; Hoshido’s lake (and the ponds shown in Hinoka’s CQ battle which are in the capital) for Chapter 5, the sea for BR chapter 11, the burning falls for BR chapter 21, and the city for Rev chapter 13. Similarly, the consequences of being a victim to the curse are described as “turning into sea foam” in the JP version. Localization as a whole kind of toned down how much water has an influence on the story.

Chapter 23

-Probably the pettiest gripe I have lol. As Arete is fading away from Azura’s arms, Azura has a different reaction in localization and Japanese. In localization, Azura says “Mother? Mother!” while a voice clip of her in-battle pain cries plays. In the JP, she says  “*Sob... Sob*…! Mother... Mother...!”, while a voice clip of her crying plays. Her crying voice clip I don’t recall hearing anywhere else.

This is one of the few times in the you get to see Azura express a heavy and heartfelt emotion, since her rough childhood caused her to remain guarded and stoic around everyone. The equivalents to this scene in other routes is her death scene in Birthright, and her crying with Corrin over Ryoma’s death in Conquest; a normally unflinching and aloof character breaking down is a rarity, and indicates that the cause of it is something to take note of for the character as a whole. Localization softened this aspect, and I take issue with it, despite it probably seeming trivial to most other people.

Chapter 24

-When Corrin is questioning the phantom Mikoto, an exchange happens. In localization, part of it goes like this:

Corrin: But this can't be... Are you truly my mother?

Mikoto: I am. Even as a puppet of Anankos, my spirit at least remains my own.

Corrin: I... I believe you.

In the JP version, it goes like this:

Corrin: It can’t be... …Are you really my mother?

Mikoto: Yes... I became an Invisible servant, controlled by the Invisible King... Even so, I am your mother.

Corrin:  …………

Again, a minor thing that I don’t personally have issue with, but replacing Corrin’s silence with an admittance of belief could make some believe she has “reverted” back to being too naïve.

Chapter 26

-While Gunter is relaying his past, an exchange happens. In localization, it goes like this:

Gunter: I ask myself that, every day. I cannot understand the minds of royals. To you all, we commoners are little more than pawns in your schemes... Or weeds to be killed on a whim.

Corrin: That's not true...

Endgame

-Not a major problem so much as a general thing about the game, but I can think of like... at least three memes that Treehouse inserted into the localization. Now I like memes, but there is no better way to date your media nowadays. One of them was Kana’s “That’s dragon for I love you” which tbh, is kind of cute and isn’t the most well known meme so I guess I can let it slide. Another is Felicia saying “I had one job!” when she messes up in the dining hall, which isn’t that big of a deal since the dining hall is very optional.

The last one I can think of is why I put this specific grievance here, and it’s during Corrin’s speech before facing Anankos.

Corrin: We won't back down! This is my... This is our destiny! Ready your weapons! Fight for your friends! With the Seal of Flames... With the Fire Emblem on our side! We fight for our world!!

Yeah, she says “Fight for your friends” which is everyone’s favorite Ike line from Brawl. Now, this isn’t even a totally inaccurate translation either, but it kind of just... makes the moment funny for the player when it’s supposed to be commanding and serious I guess.

But yeah, not the most important issue by far, but something I’d thought to mention. Hell, it’s not even that bad compared to how they made Peri’s, Effie’s and Hisame’s quirks into exaggerated and tired jokes. And the Beruka-Saizo support. Never forget.

-When Azura and Corrin are by the lake and discuss the latter’s plans to rule, Corrin says this in localization:

Corrin: I'm going to make Valla a wonderful place! In honor of the true last king and for Queen Arete. And everyone who fought... I promise to make them all proud.

In the JP version, she says this:

Corrin: I’ll make the Invisible Kingdom (Valla) into a great land. For the previous monarch, Queen Shenmei (Arete)… And for all of my allies who fought beside me. I promise.

So, JP version only mentions Arete as the reigning monarch of Valla. Which makes sense, cuz unless there was some wild “keeping the bloodline pure” shenanigans in Valla, Arete being the Queen keeps in line with what we know about the rest of Valla’s history. Arete was royalty from birth, as was her sister Mikoto. Arete is the one who passed down Lost in Thoughts and the pendant to Azura.

In the case of TASM they had casted felicity jones as felicia hardy/black cat (she had a minor role in TASM 2) and they had already announced the actress meant to play MJ in the next movie, so Gwen stacy’s death was a calculated move. I really don’t think Sony or marvel would kill of this MJ, not when zendayas as big as she is and petermj is so beloved by the general public. Also, keep in mind that Tom said he’d want to continue playing spider-man as long as z and Jacob could too, which basically confirms they won’t be dying in nwh. I personally think if anyone dies it’s gonna be Happy. Now that Tony’s gone they don’t have any use for him outside of the spider-man franchise and he was close enough to Peter for him to feel guilty about it.

Yea, I think Sony is going to wait first to see how well this film does (esp during covid times) before making any future film announcements or renewing anyone's contracts.

I agree with you, I don't think they would kill off MJ this soon in the game. Like you said, Z is a pretty huge draw for a lot of ppl, and many love her portrayal of MJ, and love Peter and MJ together and all of the SpideyChelle fics. 😊

Sony would be foolish to kill her off, or let Tom go in the franchise imo.

And like you said, it did seem like Tom already kind of spoiled the fact that Z and Jacob must still stay alive at the end of NWH if he's saying he would do another film if they were signed on also lol 😆 🤣 😂

I remember him doing an interview for FFH, and I recall him telling an interviewer how it was funny to film the scenes when MJ realizes that Peter is Spiderman, and she and Ned kind of have a competition on who knew first and whatever.... And I was like, "Nooo Tom! You prob weren't supposed to tell them that!" 🙈🤦🏾‍♀️😅 Telling ppl that MJ now knows that Peter is Spider-man was a pretty big spoiler for FFH imo lol. 👀

But Tom just gets to talking and doesn't realize when what he's saying is actually spoiling stuff about the movie rofl. 😂

Opinions of Felicia Hardy? Things you like, things you'd change if you were a writer, etc.

I’d like her to step on me and rob me blind. I love Felicia a lot.

I love her runs and I’m excited to see what happens with Odessa Drake in the future.

Her bit in King in Black where she rejects power being handed to her was so well done plus her in that outfit was my background forever.

I think Felicia maybe gets regulated too much to Peter’s ex. But on the flip side when writers try to push back against this they can go too far. It’s important to remember Felicia and Peter did love each other a lot. They were both in their early 20s it was a high passion relationship. She wanted different things than he did and that was that.

Felicia and Peter are not bitter exes. They’ve had their share of body snatching weird riffs in the past. But when they’re both themselves they’re really good friends. They have each other’s backs.

Her and Flash Thompson I think were a really cute couple. Even though it started off rocky and whatever I think they should be friends now that our man Flash is back.

I have criticism of her origin backstory and motivations being retconned into sexual assault. I don’t want to say the story it’s self should have never happened because in general it was handled about as respectfully as I’ve seen a comic writer do it. But I think it takes away some of the core of Felicia and it doesn’t really explain why she’s turn to thieving so yeah. I suppose I don’t like her motivations being changed.

I love seeing Felicia interact with other heroes and whatnot. Because she may be the black cat but she truly fits into the greyest of categories. She’ll do whatever benefits her the most. Bit of a chaotic neutral I’d say.

Yeah I also appreciate when they sexualize her they make it a conscious choice and it isn’t all the time. In fact it can go so far as her having very real discussions about her body. Ie how does she swing around with such large boobs well they act as a ballast. That’s very funny and it shows that the writer is aware of Felicia as a person and not just a hot lady to lounge around and pose.

I love Felicia’s bad luck powers and her journeys with them. I love her ‘feminine wiles’ as Peter put them because she’s just so unapologetically her.

And I think the ps4 Spider-Man games got her done right. I personally think that Peter and her having a kid would be a riot.

Anyways yeah I love Felicia and I’d like to see more of her. If I was a writer that’s what I’d do put her in more stuff lol

Hey hey, my story The Book of Silence just reached 20,000 hits today! So cool! This one was meant to be a “hey, what if it just happened easily for them for once?” kind of story. That said, it’s also my only fic where I wrote John’s POV in first person, which means that it’s jam-packed with his endless internal profanity and horniness, lol. But it’s generally very soft, with some cases, a slowly-unfurling new relationship and a crap ton of domesticity and food and quiet moments between the cases. I loved writing it. :)

It also has an arrangement wherein Rosie’s primary caregivers are Sherlock’s parents (aka, her grandparents by the end of this story), and naturally people always like to challenge it any time a fic writer decides against active parentlock for whatever (IMO, sensible) opinion (lol), so I started speculating more deeply about what her life might look like, growing up with that kind of custody & family arrangement, to the point that I wrote a sequel, Rosa Felicia, about her. At that point, Rose (as she goes by at this point) is 19, in university, and it’s basically a coming-of-age story. It shows a good bit of her relationships with all of the various parental figures in her life - her grandparents, her fathers, her aunts (Harry and her partner) and - naturally - her overbearing Uncle Mycroft. I actually really enjoyed writing that one, too, and while it’s a bit off-piste for me to write a story that’s not more specifically about Sherlock and John, this was a nice revisit of their relationship 18 years down the road, too. :)
