Ghost

In the beginning it was a lot more “benefits” than it was “friends”. He had a lot of issues to let you in any further than just sleeping with you. 

You were an outlet for frustration and he was entirely honest about that and made sure you didn't feel used or led on.

It took a while but eventually you were able to spend the night, he started calling you when he needed company and eventually he even opened up to you a little and you finally got to understand why he acts the way he does.

He’s a very attentive lover and now that he has a closer bond with you, also an incredible friend. He is always there to listen, even if he often doesn’t know what advice to give you.

Often calls you over late at night or right after returning from missions, just needing a way to blow off steam. He tends to be a little rough with you, but only with your consent.

He isn’t interested in any relationship or attachments so he is quite happy with your arrangement. 

Soap

You and Johnny had been friends for super long before you eventually got closer to him. It was just supposed to be a sleepover so you could binge some horror movies together, but at some point his hand had ended up on your thighs, then you had ended up in his lap and the moment you started kissing you both knew it was over. 

Except for having sex not much has changed between the two of you, most of your hookups still happen during movie nights or other friendship hangouts that you would have had before starting to sleep together.

It’s becoming a problem when people start asking questions since neither of you pay any attention to the movies you’re supposed to be watching. “Oh, you watched (...) on the weekend, right?? How was it?” “Uh… Good… I think.” 

You are so casual and comfortable with each other that there was never really a phase of awkwardness between you two, it just felt natural. 

He honestly doesn't care if anyone finds out, is the type to pull you into a supply closet for a quickie.

Price

You are both very happy with the arrangement, even though except for missing full commitment you are basically in a relationship. 

He will always make sure you know you are taken care of and that you know how much he appreciates you, take you out for dinner or cook for you, get you gifts. 

Compared to the others, your relationship is a little more mature and less impulsive, you had been friends for a long while, tried to date but didn’t quite work out. Still, you both had to admit you enjoyed having sex with one another, so you just decided to go back to that part. 

He’ll check in with you often to make sure you are still happy with the situation and it is understood that if either of you ever find a serious relationship you’ll have to stop.

He likes to make sure he has his time with you, whenever you have a "date" he wants to have the whole day off.

Gaz

It was supposed to be just a friends with benefits situation but failed almost immediately. You both tried so hard to keep it casual but it was a lost cause from the first time. 

Gaz used to have hookups quite often when off duty, but now that he has you, he doesn’t really want or need that anymore. He doesn’t want to admit it to himself, let alone you, but he’s kind of obsessed with you.

At this point you are spending so much time at each other’s places that you might as well move in, but both of you are afraid to suggest taking the next step because that is not what we agreed on.

He is so sweet, always taking his time with you, making sure you are the priority and that you feel well taken care of.

König

You’re one of the few people from his past that he is still in contact with and though you don’t get to see him often, it’s a good time whenever you do.

It’s good for him to have someone from his childhood that can give him a reality check and make sure he doesn’t forget where he came from when he needs it.

He isn’t the best at communicating, which your situation requires a lot of, so you run into problems at times. You don’t see each other often, most of the time there is a lot of distance dividing you, plus the time zones, so there is a lot to be navigated.

He likes and appreciates you a lot though, so you make it work somehow.

Most of the time he is super gentle with you and will do whatever it takes to make sure you finish first, however there have been situations where he just needed to use you to get some negative emotions out of his system after a failed mission.

Alejandro 

He always said he wasn’t one for casual sex, that he was made for relationships, but he had to learn that that just isn’t fully true. Once you and him started sleeping together he had to realize how convenient it was to have someone to help him have his needs met without the responsibilities that come with actual relationships.

He’s a great lover, extremely attentive, very loving, and skillful at what he does. He’d never be selfish and only get himself off.

Rudy

You have been friends with benefits for as long as you can remember, so the communication between the two of you is great since you just know each other so well.

It started when you were joking around with him after a bad date how dating around wasn't worth it just to have mediocre sex with people you barey liked and he got competetive about it.

"Bet I could do better." (He in fact could and did do better)

You don’t sleep with each other that often, just once every few months when you both feel like it. Most of the time when you hang out, things stay strictly platonic, that is just the way things work out for you.

Valeria

She doesn’t have many friends that she can actually trust, so she was terrified to push your relationship any further than a friendship. She didn’t want to risk losing you, one of the few people who knew her before the army, before the cartel. 

Still, one thing led to another and she’d never want to go back to before. She knows you might not fully support her work in the cartel, but that you still feel nothing but loyalty for her.

She doesn’t have time for an actual relationship and also wouldn’t want to put someone in danger of getting caught up in the crossfire of cartel dealings, so you being fairly low-commitment for her is ideal.

She can be a bit of a selfish lover, but you adore pleasuring her, so it all works out in the end.

Hmmmm, I feel like ive done this tag game before bcs I remember writing this exact answer. But usually I notice if someone is a good conversationalist or not. Like do they like to lead the convo, do they like to listen to the other people, do they talk too much, too little, are they awkward about it? It's just very interesting to me, bcs I think that kinda thing really does instantly show you if you're going to be compatible with a person(as a friend or more etc.) Cause I talk a lot a lot, and I think it's difficult to get along w people who are untalkative but also people who talk an equal amnt if not more djkfkglg.

Mostly drawing! I draw both F1 fanart(pretty much all selfmade AUs tho) and ocs. I like writing lore and worldbuilding and meta, but not really writing itself. I like reading fic and watching movies as well. And I think one of the main things I do these days tbh is read about history and keep up with politics. I get more and more involved with it as the days go by, but unlike drawing, I don't really have an outlet for it sigh sigh. So that's why a lot of AUs involve history and random other things, bcs its fun to involve my interests with each other!

Yes I do! Two cats and two dogs. The cats are named Jin and Frank. Last movie:

the Demon Slayer movie. I skipped all the way to the end to see the fight between Akaza and Rengoku because they're two of my favs ( in order from that show: Uzui (my mom calls yuzu (my cat) Uzui and its adorable) Akaza and Rengoku. I Found out the english dub is out (im way behind) and just needed to hear their english voice acting. all of it is amazing and Akaza's lil gigles during the fight make me incredibly happy. Guys who laugh/giggle mid combat? Ugh >\\x//<

Currently Watching:

Demon Slayer, Chainsaw man, Tokyo ghoul (im rewatching a bunch of animes) Steven universe. (i love all of these and full recommend them. I literally just yesterday(or the day before idk time is a blur) got a new funko pop, it's the half-kakuja kaneki and i love it.)

Spy x Family, the Junji ito Collection, Yamishibai (if you like picture style art and horror this is great, its somewhat junji ito like, but shorter stories and ngl the zanbai ep scared me a bit) psychpass (some reccomended this to me cause im (obviously) a fan of darker more gruesome shows, and it is very dystopian, love the art work, but i just dont get it.) Given (if you havent watched this show please watch it its amazing) Yuri on ice, Banana Fish (also another fave)

(I work from home, and pretty much exist at my computer, and need to keep on music or tv to keep the bad thoughts out, so i have a lot of time and opportunity to watch stuff ok)

Shows I dropped this week:

Psycho pass. again, i just couldnt get into it. I know a lot of people seem to really like and it full seems like a show that would be up my alley. that first ep was kind of a lot though. I'm not ashamed to admit i love shows that are unafraid to show nudity and violence but the two together (ifykyk) make me uncomfortable. If this case had been a little further in the show i think it would have been fine, but it's litterally the first like ten minutes of the show. I also tried watching this a few week ago while at wasteland but we were pretty much just out the door.

Devil May Cry. I still love the games and the characters, and i remember loving the anime as a kid but its just... so different from the games lmao.

Currently Reading:

random internet stuff, fics and shit. I feel bad because i used to go to the library all the time but at the same time, i dont really have the room to store a whole bunch of books and despite being super dyslexic, i read insanely fast, so renting/buying books isnt worth it to me. (i've read entire full length series in the span of a day or two, while doing other stuff. I need longer, more conveniently packaged novels and that typically comes in the form of fanfiction. )

hmmm let me think i havent really been consuming horror or at least not actively + finding new stuff :0 well there is myhouse.wad! its been around for a few months but if you dont know its a doom mod! its a map of the mod creators deceased friends childhood home and it appears innocent at first but things quickly turn dark. you can either play it yourself here or watch a playthru of it or watch a video essay the essay i watched that introduced me to the mod was this one!! its got unfiction aspects to it in the other files you can look at and just from watching someone play depending on how good you are at games maybe its not super painful to navigate BUT IT IS PRETTY FUCKING LENGTHY so im not sure if youd wanna play it if you get frustrated easily w/ that kind of thing it might be too much :00 either way i think its a neat little gem :DD !! cws for the usual horror imagery and house fires and surreal imagery is prevalent throughout and im not sure exactly how but you can end up killing a dog early on etc! next recommendation uhhhh, the og coraline novel maybe? idk if youve seen the film or not but either way i dont think itll affect your reading experience! i read it b4 i saw the film and the book just means a lot to me!! side note ive always thought it was really cool that book coraline and movie coraline as characters were so different from each other but both still valid interpretations of kids and the way kids act :o not sure if books or horror for kids (PRETTY WELL WRITTEN HORROR STILL TBF) is what youre looking for but give it a try if youre interested!! cws for pretty common horror imagery and body horror and eye related horror and ghosts dead kids and such! ive played volleyball for ten years, i stopped playing when i went to college. after that ive done tai-chi for a year, then nothing for a loong time, then i finally decided to hit the gym and get some shoulders, which went great before i felt fit enough to try volleyball again and that is where my 3 month long icky leg injury comes from lmao. but when im healed id love to get fit again (not sure about the volleyball, im super scared but asasdgf it made me so happy to play again), it was brief but awesome, it really is so good for my body and brain to exercise regularly

as i said, one of my fave la mas draga queens (mista boo) posted a gif of mine and i read in the replies and ppl were saying how good she looked in the gif which made me happy and that i was glad to post some of my gifs on tenor . at first it was so that i can stop ppl from reposting my lmd gifs on there (and there was like a LOT) but i ended up uploading more random gifs lol and i didn’t know ppl from twitter were actually gonna post them but ive seen some of them here and there and it was nice to see ppl on twitter , post gifs when they talk about how they liked a new episode! i think this applies to tumblr too. i sometimes would see in my notifs someone who’s watched for example, killer klowns from outer space and rb my set of it, talking about how they loved the movie and i think this has occurred several other times on both my horror and my drag gifs whether it’d be ppl talking abt how they love the gifs or the movie/episode that is giffed and i think it’s very sweet 💕

Friday the 13th: Ranked

She's on Tumblr again? LONG POSTING? What is this, 2012?

Hi Tumblr. It's been a bit. But I decided it was the best place to talk unhinged shit that wouldn't make sense on other sites, so here we go again I guess. Last time I was here, I was straight. Now I'm uh...not.

ANYWAYS. Today's Friday the 13th, and it just so happens to also be OCTOBER (aka Halloween season). So y'know. Extra spooky.

I feel like there's only one REAL way to celebrate this day. To talk about the slasher of Camp Crystal Lake himself, Jason Vorhees.

I've had a fascination for horror movies since my edgy years from late 2009 through...honestly most of high school (I wore fingerless bike gloves to school every day--I didn't bike to school. I was CRINJ CITY). I remember watching the major slashers like Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street, one of my most cringe moments was making a YouTube video about the 2010 reboot of Nightmare on Elm Street and talking about how good it was (15 year old me, for the record, was an idiot).

I know for a fact that I remember watching the original Friday and Friday Part 2. But I'd never seen the other TEN films in the franchise. So earlier this year, I got together with a friend and over the course of a few weekends...

We watched every Friday the 13th film that currently exists (as of posting) and ranked them.

Our Rating System

This was our first time doing a ranking for horror, so we didn't come up with a fun system at the first go around, save for an exception.

For the purposes of consistency of our lists, we're going to use the following rating system: Actually Good. These are the movies that are actually genuinely good watches, with fun characters, good writing, and good sequences. These are the best of the best.

Fun Time 🎉. The movies in this category might not be amazing, but they are still a fun time and are still pretty good watches for the type of horror we're watching.

A Movie™️ . These movies range from almost fun to not boring or bad enough to be lower on the list. We'll explain these as we go.

Why? 🤷. There are movies that take things into confusing territories and make things more convoluted for one reason or another. If it makes us say "Why?" then it's here. No 🙅. These are the worst ones--reasoning will explain.

Caveats

I think it's important to note that while my friend and I love watching horror, we don't think the Friday the 13th franchise is particularly scary. But we were interested becuase the 80s slashers are known to be just fun, and that entices me more than anything. So while these aren't scary when you compare them to modern horror like Barbarian, we were looking for fun times.

Also, should go without saying, but these are subjective opinions.

So with that out of the way...let's do this in order from top to bottom.

Actually Good

Jason Lives! Friday the 13th Part VI

If you watch any of the Friday the 13th movies, make it this one. Part VI is not just a solid slasher movie with great production values, but it's also just a good movie in general.

Tommy Jarvis and Megan are the best duo protagonists we have, with great chemistry. The group of teens we have here are also just fun to watch. People are mostly likelable!

Also the guy who went on to be the voice for Disney's TARZAN is in this movie. Neat.

There's also a ton of great references to other Horror Media because Director Tom McGloughlin is a damn nerd and we LOVE IT. Watch the Dead Meat Kill Count on these. Ya learn a lot.

Friday the 13th Part II

So when it comes to the original canon (aka up through Part IV), this film is the strongest out of all of them. Mostly because of the fact that even though Jason Vorhees doesn't have his iconic hockey mask (which he gets in Part III), the film has straight up the best group of camp counselors/teens in the whole franchise. They're fleshed out more, more sympathetic, and it's just fun.

The only real reason this doesn't top the list is that Part VI is just a better movie overall. There are some weird shot choices, and the cold open is weird and has no pacing.

A Fun Time 🎉

Ok, so hear me out. I know the conceit of this movie is WEIRD. It's literally Jason in SPACE. This should be ridicously bad, right?

It's absolutely wild, but the thing about this movie is that it FULLY commits to the crazy concept and it honestly just works. It truly has no right to be as good as it is.

It's not a masterpiece, and it's still objectively wild, but it's a good time.

Friday the 13th (the Original)

It feels weird that the original Friday the 13th movie is in this team, but while this movie is still very good, and still a fun time with great iconic kills; it's still a little anticlimatic and the other films have stronger thru-lines.

Still a good movie, and one that I'd argue that you should still watch because it's the original and iconic, but it's not the best one.

Friday the 13th (2009 Reboot)

So I remember as an edgy teen harping on this movie for being bad (had I seen it? No. Did it matter? Also no). But this is actually a VERY strong reboot. While it doesn't entirely meet the bar of the other movies thus far, it's a fun time that does act as a "best of" of the early films in the franchise.

The characters are also kinda fun.

Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter (Part IV)

This is the technically the end of the main story arc of Jason Vorhees--he does die here. Every movie from this point on has a Zombified Jason.

Part IV is higher than the other movies on this list mostly because of the kills themselves--someone gets stabbed while they're holding a banana -- it's wild.

Everything else is kinda meh. Most of the characters here are kinda sleezy and high key horny af, and they're all kind sex pest energy. They kind of suck.

Friday the 13th Part IV: A New Beginning

So Jason isn't in this movie, at all. There's someone else imitating Jason

It's aggressively sleezy and almost pornographic, which isn't

The one main positive this movie has is that it has some very solid characters that very much feel more interesting than most of the characters in the franchise. The kills aren't as good as Part IV, but it's still fun.

Freddy vs. Jason

So I was expecting this movie to be a lot better than it was (for what its worth, it's one of the better Nightmare on Elm Street Movies). It's fine. Not overly worth writing home about per se.

Friday the 13th Part III

So this is an important film that brings us the iconic hockey mask and was also in 3D (because we love gimmicks). Unfortunately, this movie recycles a few kills and the characters are way more one dimensional, and annoying, and there's also some fun problematic racism thrown in.

Why? 🤷

Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood

This was one of the first movies in the Friday the 13th franchise that BAFFLED me and my friend when watching. According to Dead Meat, they tried to reach out to New Line about doing someting with Nightmare on Elm Street; they refused. So they went, "Ok but what if Jason vs. Carrie White? This slasher franchise needs telekinesis."

Part VII tries to be both a Friday the 13th film and a Carrie film at the same time. It fails at being good versions of both. The teens are forgettable; the telekenetic plotline is interesting but that's kinda not really the point of Friday the 13th, so it's just baffling.

Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday (Part IX)

Woof. This one is real rough.

This was a movie we kept pausing to see how long we had so we can say "We have NO IDEA WHAT IS HAPPENING".

The movie tries to streamline things but make things more complicated.

The effects are cool, the kills are ok, and the characters are fine. But the structure is bad.

Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan

Out of all of the Friday movies, this one is straight up bad. All of the characters are terrible and have no redeeming qualities. Half the movie doesn't take place in Manhattan, and once there, there's also a fun scene that's essentially SA and it's straight up upsetting. When you manage to make Jason look like a good guy, you know you've got a bad movie.

Final Thoughts

I'll go on record and say that Friday the 13th has more good movies than bad ones in my opinion. You don't watch these movies to be scared, you watch them to have a good time.

So go have fun and watch these movies!

Hiii sorry for replying a bit late! I have lots of horror movies I love to watch so I’ll give a couple we should watch together! The Ritual, Marrowbone, Hereditary, The Thing and The Lodge!! (also not a horror movie but it comes up when I search for horror movies I’ve watched on Letterboxd, Death Becomes Her!!!) Think there’s a theme of horror/thriller movies I like starting with The… never noticed that until here and there’s more in horror movie list…

Anyways, Harry’s costume!!! So unexpected to me, I loved it! And his cover?! Everything I wanted and more. Sounds like a fun time, what did you dress as? And I didn’t have any Halloween plans this year unfortunately! Just carved pumpkins with my family the day before which was nice!

I’m good as well! I’ve been reading Frankenstein (for the first time) and it’s great! The cover art for it is so cool and it’s from 1970!!! I’m being extremely careful with it and once I’m done reading it (only like 70ish more pages I think) I’m gonna get another copy for rereads/annotations so I don’t mess up the frail book and somewhat fragile cover that’s falling away from age. I’ve just reset my calendar which is always fun since it’s a whiteboard and has some cork next to it so I stick some postcards or photos or whatever there! Alright, that’s enough about me!

hiii no worries !! oooh those all look good, i think the only one ive seen is hereditary a couple of years ago when i lived in halls and i liked it!! creepy as hell and kinda jumpscare-y if i remember right but me and my flatmates watched it together and had a sleepover in the living room so i think that probably helped. akdskkd it is really common in horror movies maybe it adds to the suspense or smthn idk.

Before we begin, I want to throw out BIG thanks to everyone who took the time to read the last chapter. I am going to be honest, ever since Kat and I broke up I have been feeling rather useless and empty. I saw myself as a failure. I I was confused. I had no answers and no closure. And I know how dangerous I can be when I sink too low and start getting all wrapped up in my mind. But so many of you have reached out to me just to let me know you are thinking of me. Or to tell me how much you enjoyed what I have written so far and how you have been through similar experiences. And I love the hell out of that! And that shit really got to me. It made me feel like I really have a place here. The truth is that I am exhausted. I'm exhausted from having to start back at square one. I am no longer a spring chicken. I'm a portly 43-year-old fella who sweats way too much. Not exactly catching a lot of right swipes. But I have been watching a lot of Rom Coms lately. (It's a coping mechanism. Sue me.) Well, I watched this flick I Want You Back about 6 or 7 times in the last 6 months. It has Charlie Day and Jenny Slate, who I have a bit of a crush on. *SPOILER ALERT!!!* but there is a line that continues to resonate with me. Jenny Slate's character Emma is asked by her ex why she tried to get him back so hard when they were clearly so incompatible, she tells him that she just "wanted the search to be over." That was exactly where I was. I just wanted to be done with all of this dating. I wanted to be with my life partner. But then Emma goes on to say "But maybe you can't force it. Maybe you just have to do the best that you can on your own and if you do a really good job, and you're lucky, then you find someone." I thought that I had found that someone in Kat. And I am so very grateful for our time together. I will never regret having her come into my life. I'm not a big fan of how she left my life, but I am working on that. But she was not that someone. As time went on, we became less and less compatible. And no, you can't force it. Ive tried so hard all of my life to force it. And it has led to disaster every time. So, I just have to do the best that I can. And do a little good. And when you all read my story and you tell me how it has helped you or it there was something that they really needed to hear, it helps me realize that this right here, this is my Good.

So, with that being said, let's press on with the story.

When we left off Amanda and I were living together with our pup, Fennie. We had just done quite a bit of traveling together and things are going great. I had also recently left Narcotics Anonymous and the recovery life after a resentment festered in me. I was working on completing my bachelor's degree and was taking steps to pursue a Ph.D. I was on my way to take the GREs in Oklahoma City.

I pulled into the parking lot of the Skirvin Hotel and walked into the lobby. I chose this particular location for its extensive history of being haunted. It has been said that NBA players have had terrible games when playing in Oklahoma City because they were kept up all night by things going bump in the night. It has a history of being a speakeasy during prohibition. And saying that this hotel was fancy would not do it justice. The lobby like something out of a movie! And it certainly had an old timey horror flick vibe to it.  I checked into my room and relaxed for a bit. The plan was to get one last study session in, take a bath in that fancy ass tub and sit around in the provided robe, head down to the bar to get a drink and something to eat, come back, hit the bricks, and call it a night. Well…I seem to have what is usually referred to as an "addictive personality". And I have always had a predilection for a good scotch. If I was going to have my first drink after 8 years of recovery running around in my head, it was going to be something classy and fitting of the vibe in the hotel bar. I walked up to the bar with a timid awkwardness but once I had a seat on the high-top chair and was greeted by the bartender, I felt like I was reconnecting with an old friend. "Double of Johnny Red on the rocks please. And leave it open."  I had one glass with my dinner and decided to have one more at the bar. Next thing I know I am on my 7th glass and am bumming smokes from strangers outside. Soon I hear the clanging of a bell as they announce last call. I freeze and soon realize the gravity of the situation. I was here to take the exam that is going to determine my future and I have spent the last 6 hours pounding down scotch whiskey. Well, there is only one thing left for me to do. And if you think that was to go to sleep…well, you would be incorrect. That is not the way that I operate. The correct answer was…walk to the corner store and get a 12 pack of Coronas to take back to the room. After all, I didn’t have to be at the exam until noon and checkout was at 11. PLENTY of time! I do not remember crawling into bed that night, but I remember the feeling that I had the next day.

Apparently Drunk Haber was smart enough to set an alarm. At 9am it began to wail. I was not prepared for the feeling I had waiting for me. I was unable to completely open my eyes because the light would nauseate me. It hurt to even think.  My head felt like there were stones where my brain would normally be. I start to panic because I am in no shape to leave the hotel room. How the FUCK am I going to take the GREs feeling like this? I run a hot bath and think about my options. I could A) Just chalk it up as a loss. Just tell Amanda that I ate bad seafood for dinner and had food poisoning. B) I could just drive back to Lawton, come clean to Amanda about the previous night, and just crawl into bed. Or C) Suck it the hell up, put on my big boy panties, and come hell or high water, I was going to take that exam. I chose C. I got up, threw on some clothes, checked out (keeping one eye closed so that I didn’t see double), and was on my way.  The testing site was only 10 minutes away, but it felt like an hour. I pulled in and walked up to where you have to sign in. I cannot imagine how I looked (or how I smelled for that matter) to them. I was practically sweating out peat moss. I was walked over to my testing station, and I gave one last pep talk to myself. "C'mon, Haber, pull your shit together. You GOT THIS!". The exam began. For the first hour and a half I was doing alright. It was a struggle to concentrate on my work, but I really felt like I could pull through this. And then…. the oats started to roll. I was on the essay portion of the exam and had a good 45 minutes to go. I can do it! I got this!......And then, I no longer had it. I got up (Big time rule violation) and walked over to the proctor and said I wasn’t feeling well and needed to use the bathroom. I do not know if I was actually granted permission. It didn’t matter. I had about 20 seconds before the pound of brisket and 8 scotch doubles was needing OUT! I JUST BARELY made it to the bathroom and proceeded with one of the harshest vomiting that has ever took place from this body. Normal people are able to be sick, throw up, look a little flushed, but no real lasting consequences. But no, not Haber. Everything has to be EXTRA with me! So, when I throw up it is VIOLENT! I have bruised ribs, broken vessels, and given myself black eyes on more than one occasion. Afterwards I look like I have been in a goddamn vehicle accident! I pulled myself up and staggered to the sink. As I splashed water on my face and attempted to collect myself. I As I sat in front of the sink splashing water on my face and washed my mouth out, I attempted to gather myself. Eventually I made my way back in to complete my exam. I took heavy breaths as I struggled to complete it. I'm not too sure how I was able to make it through, but I hung tough. And to think that I had to write 2 essays for that thing. I would LOVE to read what the hell I actually wrote.

A few months later I received my exam results in the mail. And, well, I was pretty much right smack dab in the middle of the Bell curve. So despite having double digit glasses of scotch and 4 beers for a night cap, I did just as well as half the people who took the exam. I believe that I mentioned before that I am good at school. And I can take a test like it's my job! I would go on to take the GRE two more times, as well as the Psychology GREs twice. These were an intense 2 years. But I had my eyes on the prize. I was going to be addressed as Doctor Haber someday and that was all there was to it.  I had already scouted a few schools that would CERTAINLY want a fella like me in their Clinical Psych PhD program! I worked hard to put together as impressive of an application as possible. I will be honest, I was KILLIN' IT! However, I was going to have to face the fact that I had relapsed. The one thing that I had spent so many years trying to avoid had happened. And for the most part my relapse had not had any negative effects on my life. I had some feelings of guilt, but all of that bad shit that I was told would come back to me had not happened. Yet.

It actually had a beneficial effect on my relationship with Amanda. The fact that she really liked to drink and I would remain sober would always be an underlying cause of tension. Now we were able to have margaritas together after work at Los Tres Amigos, the amazing Mexican joint right down the road from us. Soon we were smoking pot together. And that brought us even closer. We would have deeper conversations, amazing sex, and connected on an intimate level. And despite my anger and resentment towards the 12 step programs there were still plenty of people who loved me so much while I was in the program who wanted me to remain in their lives. They would often check up on me to make sure I was doing alright and ask about Amanda and Fennie.

These were people who kept loving me no matter what I may have said or done, no matter how many tantrums I would throw in a meeting and storm out, they were quick to give me a hug and tell me how much they loved me no matter what. I learned so much about myself, about love, and about living life on life's terms from them. It meant so much to me knowing that they still cared for me and wanted to be sure I was good to go. We would continue to take the trip to Dallas to watch the Rangers face the Red sox. We would continue to have dinner together and I would often get invited to birthday parties and holiday meals. They were my family for so many years and they continued to remain in my life despite our lifestyle differences.

In October we decided to take a weekend trip to Greenleaf State Park. This was a few hours away so we loaded up the car, threw Fennie and Mia in the back, and we hit the highway. One thing that we really loved to do together was to take road trips. I never really minded long car rides with Amanda. She was a great travel companion. We would make each other laugh, sing along to the radio at the top of our voices, and our trips would often get stretched out due to us constantly stopping at any place of interest we would come across. Fennie was also getting to be quite the seasoned traveler as well. That dog had seen more of this great country than most adults that I know. That weekend was incredible! We went hiking with Fennie and took videos of his confusion as he encountered his first turtle. That night we drank wine and smoked a joint by a campfire. We had brought a frozen pizza with us to cook not even considering whether the cabin had an oven. We ended up rigging up a system to cook it over the flames.

The next day while walking around we came across a run-down playground complete with a dilapidated mini golf course and tether ball pole that we had a field day on. It was a perfect weekend. Relaxed, mellow, and intimate. We were growing together as a couple and as a family.

As winter rolled in, we were making plans for the holidays. We spent Thanksgiving with her family and although I can occasionally come off as socially awkward, they seemed to accept me. When there were challenges to face, we would take them head on together. Right before Christmas Mia had gotten into a scrap with another cat in the apartment complex and ended up fracturing her hip. After taking her to get x-rays the vet came out and told us that the surgery was going to cost $1200. Without hesitation we chose to cancel our Christmas plans to afford the procedure.

After all, we were a family, and Mia was now part of that family. There was no other choice to consider.

We would end up spending the last few weeks of the year together in our apartment. But we made the best of it. Because that is what we did! We made the best of anything.

And that is how 2011 ended. And that is where we will leave off for now. 2011 started off with me taking a major step in moving in with Amanda. And it ended with me feeling on top of the world. 2012 is going to turn into a whirlwind. It will begin with Amanda, Fennie, Mia, and myself ringing in the new year together, and it will eventually end with me and Fennie leaving to begin a new life in North Carolina.
