i drew the sbg characters if they were in my comics magic system heres a long post talking about their abilities

i somehow did doodles of all of them in one day lol. THIS IS GOING TO BE A VERY LONG POST BE CAREFUL ABOUT CLICKING READ MORE THIS IS JUST ME YAPPING ABOUT MY COMIC AND ABOUT SBG

ok so the magic system of my comic is basically this: your eye color aligns with a “concept”, and each concept turns into a very unique super power for each individual. it can be anything, as long as it fits the concept. literal or metaphorical. i designed this power system to be very vague so you can be super creative

ill explain each concept as i go down, but i basically switched the sbg cast with my cast, so all of them are called “duo ranked” and have heterochronmia, and their concepts have mixed together to create a new, entirely unique power that fits both concepts in its own creative way.

i also kept one color for every character except for aiden. i kept his red eye, because if i didnt i would be doing FOUR BROWN RANKS and i want to show off this system so ill only do 3 lmao

heres how it went:

starting off with ashlyn, her ability came pretty easy. i kept her green eye(the concept of growth) and gave her a white eye(the concept of enhancement(typically of ones own values or senses)), and they mixed together to give her control over sound, more specifically its volume and frequencies

its very useful for her, she avoids being overwhelmed way easier now and can switch off whatever is bugging her if it gets too loud. coincidentally, eavesdropping is INCREDIBLY easy, since she can just turn up a specific conversation she wants to listen in on. and she can manipulate frequencies so she makes tyler voicecrack all the time because its really funny. very simple power and its perfect for ash. her drawing turned out okay, i kinda rushed them all just to have them done dont expect high quality

I had a VERY fun time coming up with aidens power. he has his red eye(the concept of creation(self explanatory)) and i gave him a purple eye (the concept of perception, like illusions and such) and the two mixed together to allow him to turn duplicate illusions into reality (if he has enough strength to do so). he can create illusions that are specifically duplicates of objects, and they are only temporary for the time being until he actually ‘creates’ it, then of course it just permanently exists. he is limited to only a single duplicate, and one at a time. actually creating something is very draining

the only human duplicate he can make that will function correctly is himself, and he cannot make it more than a temporary illusion. he can make decoy human illusions, but he cannot make them real.

i had a lot of fun trying to draw his stupid hair it was good practice, im very happy with his drawing

next is tyler!! i put “pursuance” in the drawing because i never know how to describe it but tracking or pursual(is that a word??) is a better word i guess?? its in the works

I kept his brown eye(the concept of pursuit(being able to track things basically)) and gave him an orange eye (the concept of healing) and i gave him a pretty literal power of being able to track how far along the healing process an individual is. in turn, this also gives him the ability to sense when someone around him is hurt.

also, since he can track the healing journey, physically touching him will speed it up ever so slightly. if you have a stomach ache just go hug tyler and eventually you’ll feel better

now for possibly my favorite ability, TAYLOR :D! (featuring me forgetting the word pursuit exists and just putting ‘persual’ which may not be a WORD google LIED TO ME HELP DONT LOOK AT IT

ANYWAY just like tyler i kept her brown eye, and then i gave her a pink eye (the concept of connection), which gave me the idea of her being like tylers opposite. i wanted their powers to reflect each other, so where tyler can track physical injuries and how they heal, taylor can ‘connect’ with others and sense their mood and how it has recently been. almost like a graph!! sometimes she accidentally does it and gets overwhelmed trying to keep track of other peoples moods when she isnt prepared to handle it.

and just like tyler, physical touch from taylor will make you happy and calm (hugging taylor does that anyway) so she is like that scene in big hero six where they all lay on baymax because hes very warm and i love her

for the last time i kept bens brown eye because why does everyone have brown eyes, and then i also gave him white because i got a really really funny idea ok.

ben can track movement of people around him specifically, and he can enhance his own power. if he enhances it enough for one person, he can predict what their course of movement is about to be. its very immediate, so when hes trying to process it the action could very much already be happening. its very useful actually!!!

I kept logans blue eye (the concept of movement) and i gave him yellow (the concept of light) because yk yk hes a dlorist photosynthesis WHATEVER

he can basically control the movement of anything in bright light. the control on it he has depends on how bright the light is, so he finds it useful to keep a flashlight on him

nope they don’t have much that differs from canon except the clear outfit changes and character development. Cause it’s rlly just undertale 7 years in the future with a fucked up timeline.

Let’s see, if there’s someone i had to name changed personality wise it’s flowey. He’s not the same as canon; far off. He’s kinda like in a way depressed? He appeared like once early in the story to try and get Frisk to reset and give up. That didn’t work and he’s kinda turned into this like shadow. He used to follow Frisk around because of interest, but now his whole existence is like miserable. He doesn’t have reset save and load anymore, he isn’t the power he once was. And now here he is being tormented by this fucking timeline. So yea, character who’s changed the most is prolly flowey.

Frisk didn’t find out what Chara was tryna do yet. But she’s well aware that Chara doesn’t like her. Frisk doesn’t hateee Chara, but she holds a slight resentment for him because he’s a reminder. Reminder of her grim past just like Flowey. Plus; Chara is very moody and does not hide the fact he detests Frisk. He’s always snakily remarking some insult in her ear whenever she does an “impure” action. Frisk overall just tries to ignore Chara because she doesn’t see any reason to hate him. If anything, Frisk is also annoyed with Chara because he’s such a hypocrite. He had literally been the one to lead her on the genocide when she first began,, LITERALLY THE ONE SUPPORTING HER. But look at them now, now they’ve switched up and are putting all fingers on Frisk. Frisk feels like he’s constantly egging on her despite his own wrongdoings. So it’s not a mutual dislike, more like; Frisk wants to make things right and Chara couldn’t care less for what she wants to do. Frisk tries to reason with Chara like very often, to try and look for his advice so he feels like he has a choice and isn’t just a ghost. Because well, she’s the only one who can see him. Chara doesn’t give actual advice; He’s more like a “dumbass just figure it was out” type of guy. Anyways, I’ll definitely ask the creator of Frisk for more info so you can get an actual rant :3 (no i didnt create Frisk, i made the design for them. I was the one who made Chara tho!!)

And, no they don’t share a soul or DT. Chara is looking to leech off that determination so he can have a soul of his own and ERASE the timeline. Chara is only able to be there because he’s leeching off Frisk’s determination. If he wasn’t doing that, he’d also wouldn’t have been around so often. But, little fun fact!’ His locket has a tiny bit of DT that he stole from Frisk. If you look at the arts i think you can see the red at the bottom, or like he’s holding it when she’s looking o forgot.

so um WTFOK SO KUNG FU PANDA i freaking love kung fu panda HE IS MY FREAKING LIFE if he never existed my sister wouldnt be a furry (will not elaborate she is blocked here FOR A REASON sorry nox) I HAD HIGH HOPES !!! (FIRST MISTAKE.) the music, was breathtaking, felt like i was watching kung fu panda for the first time again (not really but u get wat im saying) the animation was FLUID! there were some stiff parts, but I hardly noticed them, theres only one part where some movement didnt make sense?? like for example po was flung to the left but was then was stopped mid air, and awkwardly moved right to the ground?? i was the only one that noticed it i think thats a me thing FUCK HALF OF MY RAMBLE GOT DELETED ANYWAYS. OK SCREW WHAT EVER I WAS GONNA SAY UMMM THE ART. THE COLORING. THE CONTRASTING COLORS. Im taking this as a chance to finally ramble abt her anyways so Janet's core inspo when designing her was to avoid 2 key things. Don't make her like Immortal & Th Restless's Clara (due to clara representing michael, not mrs afton, so i wanted to avoid that), and don't base her too heavily off of Ballora. I still have ties to Ballora's character (a music-based theme, blue-centric colour palette, im sure there were more basic ideas but everything else is more hc than themes to keep up) due to my hc thingy of each Funtime having ties to William's wife + kids, but yknow.

But yeah. Funky lady who played bass guitar + did backup vocals in a band during her high school and college years. Literally her and William dating can be summed up by "Seriously, what do you see in that guy?!" "He makes me laugh." bc she was and is WAY out of his goddamn league. Not just bc of the whole serial killer thing he was just an even bigger loser in college. Normal people dont develop a crush on a woman after she nearly breaks your nose and makes you bleed, William /j

But yeah uhh. I also dont like the idea of her being absent or neglectful purely because I got way too attached to her (i was originally gonna do that just to make things easy for myself but. Pretty lady,,, I am a very simple lesbian what can i say) so like. She obviously wasnt the greatest, most fantastic mom to ever exist given she was kinda maybe sorta well aware William was making some weird fucking clowns, but like. Hey. She tried. '83 event (and just evan's bday in general) is bc Evan + Elizabeth are twins and Elizabeth demanded a girls-only trip for her bday, and Janet promised Evan she'd do something just as special for him when she got back. Ive seen people say that one of fnaf's charms is that no character is 100% good and i LOVE that, and wanted to keep it up with Janet. Good mom and overall a good person, however made some bad decisions along the way and whatnot.

Im still working out specifics (ive been slowly working on a lil private fic abt her and william meeting + their early relationship) but uhhh. Minor notes that dont get their own paragraphs is that William sampled her voice for Ballora so yay easy voice claim, she had an on and off relationship with her band's lead singer (her name's Bev), her birth name is actually Janice Schmidt but if you call her Janice she'll knock at least 2 of ur teeth out, she's a runaway teen and got adopted by this older couple bc her home life kinda sucked (idk specifics yet), and also girlie has an extensive criminal record of minor angsty teen type charges. Also teen Mike dying his hair and then 2020's Michael's hairstyle are both kinda references to Janet's hair because he wnated to look less like his father. Thats all ty. i thought it was corny that the accomplice was her mom but i do like the idea of a protagonist who just exists as something a literal deal with the devil hinges on. i guess. Ummmm yeah i dont see what else they couldve done with her mom. it was that or kill her or just stop mentioning her at some point i guess? i dont know i just didnt like it i thought it was corny..it felt shoved in there but then again like i said i thought the last 20 minutes were very shoved in there also. it felt like it was stapled on to the first 1hr22. the tone felt different i think <- already forgetting <- gormless

im going to just skip over the oblivion 2006 ass devil design and pretend he was only the shadow goat because that was cooler i think if still a little eh-ish

obviously i think its very well shot and also i liked all the religious imagery, fucking obviously. i liked the cross wound on her mothers forehead after she shot her i thought that was fun, and dont think i didnt notice the "x marks the spot" being literal crosses...x marks the spot....another word for an "x" symbol is a cross....and theyre literally tilted crosses lol. i loved that

onto the main event though nicolas did as nicolas does it was a fucking great performance. why cant everyone be freaky like that. as for the buffalo bill-esqueness i'll have to be honest i didnt really click to it at first, i kind of just saw him as just like.....you know the kind of eccentric strange lunatic killer thats seen in horror films these days, but after it being pointed out i can see it i think. mostly in the speech patterns more than anything though and thats more of a direct parallel (specifically in my head) to buffalo bill than transmisogyny itself, but i can definitely see where it comes from - im not writing it off, to be honest i dont even really have to tilt or squint to see where it comes from. i'd be interested in hearing the thought process behind the character and if any caricatures like that (unintentionally, i hope) went into it but im not THAT invested in this film. either way i really enjoyed the character. was pissed we didnt get him for the whole film but thats just because i loved the performance. nicolas cage is fucking scary

anyway ummm what else. oh yeah that fucking Scary demon voice on the phone about ruby was embarrassing. why not just have it be her mom?? Dude wait literally why wouldnt it have been her mom. most of the interactions with her mother in this film have been over the phone...its pretty much always been her mother that wouldve been more. i dont know it wouldve worked...plus she was fucking there. all that being said though the second i saw this shot i knew the family was fucked

i think overall the film kept making me feel like i was watching smile and se7en at the same time in two separate tabs right next to each other like one of those minecraft parkour videos with a family guy clip stitched above it. i loved it until i only liked it after cage's character died and the dumber stuff happened. i'd like to still say i loved it but at this point i can only say i really liked it. unfortunately with films like this, endings do define them. but ummmmmm yea. longlegs 8/10 i had a lot of fun. ending was stupid

in a wildly out of character moment for me, i COMPLETELY skimmed over the rodie part of this ask fdhjgbdhb so i will ! do that next and @ you in it! BUT hey. hey. shakes a terrick kid at you

this is cameron, my new baby girl sweet daughter cameron. i like to headcanon that samantha always did terry's hair when he was young, so it was cute to me to imagine that terry would do the same to her :] and of course, nicky has to introduce cameron to all the sick ass movies that glenn showed him, including the ever famous predator handshake.

both the stamplers and the close-foster-etc families have very specific like. through-lines in their families which make this combo interesting for a fan kid? im gonna put my further notes under a cut along with some etc rambling because this is just. exciting to me. i usually make fan kids with a story already in mind, but this exercise is kind of the opposite where i have to figure out the story as i go, and thats really fun to me :D

mild spoilers for the newer episodes of season 2, but i decided to uh. Pay Attention To Biology here since terry jr was revealed to be infertile, and i think thats interesting, so cameron is adopted!! this obviously left my options pretty open, but i decided to still stick with a mixed kid, Black/Chinese, since 1. feels kinda against the point of a fan kid if i just did a random design lol and 2. considering nicky's odd genealogy as well as his severe issues with wanting his dad(s) to be proud of him and the way hes so lopsidedly attached to his family, i figured he would be the type of guy to want his adopted kid to look like him. i dont think terry would care, but he would want nicky to be happy, so it all works out in that regard ! i went back and forth a bit on if i wanted her to have freckles, i thought it could be a cute tie back to jodie, but decided against it.

she does follow the Ron -> Terry -> Ron -> Terry naming scheme, originally i was gonna go for a terry name but i figured a ron one would make more sense lol so her name is cameron! i think she would take a lot of fashion inspiration from her parents, ive always seen them as both very. emo/alternative. terry less so as he grows older, but nicky definitely clings to it, and i think that would rub off on cameron. shes not as dark and edgy as they are - i think she would be a pretty bright and bubbly kid, actually - but i kinda like the idea of her being lowkey scene/scemo. yes im biased because thats one of my favorite sub-cultures, but its CUTE. i didnt really feel like doing full outfit sketches but just know that if i did. she would be scene. and like both of her dads as teens (and nicky still into adulthood), she does dye her hair pretty heavily hehe

the only real unfortunate thing about fan kids for a series thats like. already very heavy with canon kids. is that it kind of leaves everything in a weird place where its like... do cassandra and taylor exist in this? do veronica and scary? and uhhh i dunno ghbfjdgdfhjh up to interpretation, i suppose. its easy enough to just have cassandra and nicky be divorced, but the veronica/terry of it all is murkier ... food for thought, i guess. scary would fuckin hate cameron though i think they would argue LMAO

ok so ive spammed my friend with toh thoughts a bit to much so time to ramble here i suppose. (sorry in advance thisll be very disjointed and go from one random point to another).

my main take away from the finale is that it felt a bit... hollow?

like dont get me wrong, the animation was so fucking good. getting more titan and collector lore was also so cool (and hellooo The Titan being such a genderqueer royal? absolutely love how natural toh rep is, like its just thrown out there and no one questions it, just how shit is, absolutely bangers- *gets shot*). and aaaa, the aged up re-designs of all the characters are so good, especially like the detail how all the hexsquad have a flapjack tattoo.

yet there are so many bits that just feel off? like they couldve been handle better (even with the cut runtime the show had).

first lets start with the Collector who just got done dirty, like their whole arc was about the fear of being alone again, yet at the end they decided to leave? just like that? like would it not make more sense for him to stay with Eda, to learn to control his powers better and make new friends. especially them leaving to "mature" or whatever doesnt really make sense, like how can they grow as a person if they dont interact with others, if they dont get exposed to different opinions and believes and all that.

and i dont really like Collie, but it still feels like he deserved better, especially after taking up so much runtime.

actually you know what wouldve made the show better? not introducing the Collector in the first place.

no but think about it, why waste so much runtime on a character that didnt even exist before the show was cut (and thus had very little foreshadowing and buildup to his introduction) and then to not even give them a sweeter ending?

if anything the show shouldve stuck with the Day of Unity being the true finale. like honestly if DoU happened over the 3 specials they actually had plenty of time to flesh out all the existing characters further, maybe there could have been even a little more time for more slice of life moments. but then the whole bit with Collie just feels likes taking away precious time, that his character could have only worked if the show wasnt cut, but if it wasnt cut he wouldnt have existed in the first place, so man idk.

and on the topic of the DoU, holy shit Belos got done dirty, im actually mildly mad at his demise.

like it just overall doesnt make sense thematically.

like, ok this is gonna be hard to phrase, and i would like to straight away say i dont think Belos should ever be redeemed, just gonna use other characters redemptions as example.

so toh throughout its enite runtime is really set on showing that everyone deserves a second chance for as long as they want and are willing to change. we see this with Lilith who was pretty much immediately redeemed at the beginning of s2, and whilst many people say it was rushed, or she didnt deserve it, i think otherwise. like throughout s1 she only tries to get Eda into the Emperor's coven out of the belief that Belos will cure her, cuz yknow, she feels really fucking guilty for cursing her sister, and even then she doesnt really force Eda that much into joining, like there are many moments of weakness were Lilith couldve dragged Eda to the emperor, but she didnt, she gave Eda many chances to join on her own. and again the only reason she even wanted Eda to be in the coven was to right her mistake of cursing her. so after going through that guilt for years of course shed be forgiven quickly, as she showed that she wants to change, be better and all that.

we see this with Hunter as well, though his redemption was more gradual, yet still his past wrongs arnt brought up, like how he patronised Eda and Luz during his first meeting, or attacked Amity in eclipse lake, cuz he was also doing shit out of the belief of helping people, and clearly wanted to change for the better, so why bring up his past wrongs when hes a better person now and all that.

why bring this up?

well with Belos toh brought up an interesting dilemma, what do you do with a person that doesnt want to change, thats stuck in a loop of his short sighted beliefs in a system thats ready to accept and help anyone that tries to change regardless of their past?

and the answer to that being to just kill him?

like how does that solve anything? he died thinking he was in the right, that witches are still spawns of satan or whatever tf. it just feels like it goes against what the show established.

now dont get me wrong, the scene of him trying to manipulate Luz for the millionth time and her just staring him down completely unfazed is amazing, it says more than any actual words could ever. what isnt is then Raine, Eda and King immediately stomping him afterwards, which again, just proofs Belos' point that witches are "evil" from his perspective. (how did he even die from that when even mf Collie wasnt able to kill him? and ne got hit by a car and that *still* didnt kill him either, it just feels like he shouldve survived that)

so imagine if instead of them stomping him down they decided to imprison him, that will of course also have the effect of saving him from the boiling rain. so now Belos has to live with the fact that it was witches that saved him, the same witches he'd never show that kind of mercy to, the same witches he would murder the second he got the chance, and what makes it worse is the fact that the human, the one he oh so creepily obsessed over didnt even do anything, wouldve left him suffer in the boiling rain if she had the choice.

and just generally, letting him actually *live* with the consequences of his actions would have been so much more fitting. like dying is easy, wayy too easy, an escape from consequences, but actually living with said consequences, well thats delightfully horrific.

and his death isnt the only way that they done him dirty, the Titan also basically just said that Belos is just evil and theres nothing more too it, when there literally is?? like hello what were all thos Hollow Mind paintings for if not to show that Belos aint just pure evil, how he is a victim of shitty circumstances, yet how despite that it doesnt excuse the extent to which he took shit to.

and the just forgot about that?

threshold au ive had this character idea brewing for a while of like, a medical officer who BARELY outranks philippa while she's an ensign(?) that she just DOENST get along with and loathes and they disagree on EVERYTHING because he's very By The Book where shes like, an outside the box type of thinker, takes risks, gets results etc. theyd have served on one or two ships together when they were younger, and he ends up NOT being on the ship that philippa's a Commander on. (internally shed be like thank CHEESE) and like,,, while they butted heads a lot, i think it'd end up being one of the more POIGNANT crew member relationships that philippa has.

personality-wise i was thinking he'd be grumpy and stubborn, but coolheaded (unlike philippa) and probably manages to make philippa feel both angry and insecure by simply existing and disagreeing with her and maybe insulting her intelligence lol.

when she'd achieve captaincy like, he ends up being her CMO (whether chosen or designated idk haha), and by this point she's a little more like, radiating that humble pie about following starfleet protocol, and they still bicker but i think theyd genuinely have come to care for one another by this point in their careers. :)

Why don't you like the way GT handled the Next Gen characters like Pan, Trunks, Bra, Uub, Goten and Marron?

In short, GT tried too hard to recreate OG Dragon Ball and failed at it (imho). Some things worked, a lot of other things didn't. Character depiction of the Next Gen is one of those things that failed.

And honestly, that was a BAD idea imo. She is the daughter of Videl & granddaughter of Chi-Chi. Pan should've been written to behave more like those two if anything.

Not to mention they didn't do much with Pan at all besides have her in the "damsel in distress" role like teenage Bulma. It was a waste of time and waste of her character imo.

I hear that the Japanese version of GT has Pan written better. But, I've watched a few episodes in Japanese & the characterization is still similar. Just that the dialogue isn't as bad. So I just ain't a fan of GT Pan.

I'm a fan of Super Hero & EoZ Pan. She's adorable, fun, & based off of her lineage, her personality feels very natural & in character.

The interview I linked above shows that he kinda filled the "Bulma" role too. But, with Trunks, it makes more sense for HIM to have elements of Bulma since he's her son.

But, oddly enough, GT Trunks didn't seem to have any influence from Vegeta besides being able to turn SSJ. He actually fills the "Yamcha" role as well as the "Bulma" role. He seems more like Yamcha & Bulma's son.

Despite being a main character, he didn't do much if I remember correctly.

I actually don't mind her depiction in GT. She's basically Bulma 2.0. Bratty, kinda rude, likes shopping, looks EXACTLY like Bulma. But...

The only thing I can remember that I didn't like about her was that grown men were hitting on her. That's just creepy...

(Also something to share about Bra. According to Daizenshuu 7, Bra's character bio says that she's 1 yr older than Pan in GT. But in the GT Perfect Files, it says Bra is 1 yr younger than Pan. Kinda confusing before Toriyama showed in DBS that Pan was born before Bra.)

He reall was wasted in GT. We know he's the reincarnation of Buu who somehow inherited his power too. And he was seen training with Goku at the begining of GT. But we barely see him involved.

He's Goku's student, yet he didnt even go with Goku on his journey through space? He has all of this potential, yet does nothing of importance after being trained by Goku? He merges with Majin Buu, yet nothing still? He wants to fuse with Gohan or somebody, yet that idea gets rejected for no reason but to leave things to Goku & Vegeta?

GT Uub is just a waste of an interesting idea imo.

What does he do in GT? Seriously. Yeah, he has a girlfriend and does a little here and there. What do we know about him tho? Not much besides he has Gohan's haircut but pushed forwards instead of to the back.

Why didn't the writers have him get on the ship with Goku, Trunks, & Pan? His inclusion would've given Toei a way to develop his character and even gave Trunks somebody to bounce dialogue off of. We could see how he interacts with his father & niece too. Instead, we really got nothing.

And just my opinion, but Goten would've fit better for the "Yamcha" role than Trunks did.

So to be positive first, I like her design & her voice in JP & ENG. But why did we get ANOTHER BULMA?! What do I mean? For some reason, GT Marron is bratty, rude, and obsessed with shopping. Who is this? Bulma???

Ppl will say "Well, 18 liked shopping too." Yeah, but 18 wasn't a brat and cold harted like she's innacuately portrayed to be in GT (thank God DBZ & DBS Android 18 exist). GT made 18 uncaring towards Krillin except when he died. So OOC. So if they make 18 OOC and give Marron the personality of her OOC mother, then she becomes a brat.

I DO NOT like GT Marron nor do I like GT Android 18. Terrible portrayals of characters I like. And it seems like in the DBS manga, Toyotaro writes 18 to be cold-hearted towards her husband in a similar way that GT did. Meanwhile Toriyama and the DBS anime properly portray 18 as a loving wife who is tough. And they have Marron being a sweet fun loving girl too.

So there are my reasons. I just despise how innacuately GT depicted characters and how so many of them have aspects of Bulma. I'd rather see better adaptations of these characters in the main continuity.

- The Creator humanized her own oc that she made as white. how dare she not understand that the fandom has decided for her that the character is actually coded as a POC because of the existence of lips in her character design. yes Creator is the weird one in this equation and not me

- They featured a gem who is small and cute (to contrast with the fact that she is so evil) which means that she is the exact same thing as a Ioli. worth mentioning that this criticism started before the episode she was featured in was even out and also people started “fixing” her character design by drawing her with boobs and changing pretty much nothing else.

*they also decided based off zero evidence whatsoever that this character would be redeemed and her butch colleague would remain evil. this plot point that they hallucinated was of course the fault of crewnlverse again

hmmm so in GM the 'rainy night conversation' scene where genji and co. r dissecting what kind of woman would be the best to pursue takes place in hahakigi, literally the second chapter, and the opinions of women they put forth in the text r presented as worldly advice that spurs genji to realize that he loves fujitsubo, and in the long run, also shapes his motivations behind kidnapping wakamurasaki ("it is probably not a bad idea to take a wholly childlike, tractable wife and form her yourself as well you can"). while the entire thing does reek of misogyny its more nuanced and bealievable given that the characters justify their opinions w anecdotes (also very fucked up in their own right). guden sort of downplayed the nuance there by solely having genji, to-no-chuji et al focus on beauty and a few quick lines resembling a summary of one or two paragraphs of to-no-chujo. it serves its purpose but......i would have liked it to be a bit longer.....

*touken danshi roasting the misogynistic convo* this has so many layers bc. written by a woman -> story centred around a casanova -> adapted into a stage play for a franchise that only has male characters -> all of the roles are played by actresses

gyoukan: between the lines of the text vs honpen: main story. so gyoukan is the designated period where the people behind the roles of the characters of genji monogatari retain their original sense of self, while during honpen they completely become the characters n forget their real selves. so koshosho no kimi (one of murasaki shikubu's close friends) is the antagonistic empress mother of the tale, kokiden no nyogo.

hmmm i wonder what the mechanism that determines the turnover of gyoukan/honpen is. the touken danshi arrive in heian-kyo, and find the entire era under control of this dichotomous influence, but how did the hra even manage to pull off smth on this scale? and why even give leeway to the touken danshi to break this process by keeping the gyoukan as a loophole?

but actually id say gyoukan serves its purpose in expanding upon the finer aspects behind the work and working it into the narrative.

so murasaki shikibu's caught on to the fact that the novel's story should be destroyed to stop this historical aberration and passes the book onto koshosho no kimi's keeping and thats why shes been resisting the forced characterization even tho its honpen rn

RARE kasen boke moment. at least he realized he shouldnt make utsusemi accept genjis advances for the sake of distorting GM's plot bc that would be against her wishes. consent > tentatively correcting history. rare W there. genji could never.

ookurikara went on a solo mission to confront genji while the rest (all 5 of them) go witness utsusemis chapter. so their plan mutsve been to break apart the story by either distorting the women's part of the story, or killing genji himself. what kind of insane confidence did kasen have to let kara go on his own to kill genji lol. also whats with the uneven team distribution....

I've heard people say that these "discount store Phantom Thieves have bland, samey outfits", but personally...I really like them. I think it goes back to the same reason i love Joker's costume design: I've always like semi formal.

(I know i just posted about how i must like short pants costumes, since Closer and Sophia look so cute to me, but i can have multiple, opposing, simultaneous favorites.)

Part of the reason I'm a little disappointed in P5X protagonist's costume, is because i keep comparing it to Joker's, and it's not as formal and stylish as Joker's. I love all long, black, billowing coats. (That aren't just a bunch of ribbon strips simply trailing behind a coat, like Violet's. It's gotta be billowing and cape-like for me to like it.*) But P5X protagonist's coat looks less formal and thus less stylish to me, compared to Joker.

But look at the costumes of the majority of the other P5X Phantom Thieves. It's all lapels, coat tails, riding coats, blazers, dress shirts, button down vests, big collars, and even ascots. I think i kinda love that stuff. I've always just liked a little bit of formality. To me, that's stylish.✨️

(*...Though looking at Violet's Figma prototype, her coat's tails are wider than i thought. But when she moves in cutscenes, they seem more like thin fabric strips more than the capelike effect that i love from trench coats. Maybe because there's too much space in the cuts between her tails? Fabric strips like ribbons do suit her rhythmic gymnastics theme, since the ribbon is a core rhythmic gymnastics tool. So his coat tails are just extra icing to me. Not necessary from the front, but a nice flourish if you notice it. His coat tails are more noticable from his back and i think it's more cohesive there. So i guess that means my problem is that i never liked Kasumi's/Violet's look. I've posted before, how i didn't understand everyone's immediate love of Kasumi, since the first teaser trailer for P5R. Her character design never particularly spoke to me. Not like Sophia's, or Closer's, or the majority of P5X's Phantom Thieves, nor like Joker's costume design. I finally concluded that girly character designs didnt really appeal to me. And Violet's costume is certainly girly. Atlus said they were homaging traditional "mahou shoujo", after all. So i guess Violet's coat tails would have worked for me, if her outfit without them, could stand on its own, in my tastes. But it doesn't. To me, anyway. ⏯️ Funny for me to seemingly imply that vanilla P5's female Phantom Thieves' costumes aren't girly, when Ann exists, Makoto's tight costume shows off her female figure, and Haru has her vest cut out for her bust. But if we're comparing vanilla P5's female designs to why i don't care for Violet's costume or "girly" character designs, maybe Panther's and Queen's sexiness is too mature to feel "girly" to me. And Queen's costume is more rough and post apocalyptic, action moviey, to feel "girly". And with the exception of Haru's bust, everything about her outfit is masculine. Sure, a 1700s' version of masculinity, but she's essentially cross dressing to rebel against her expected gender roles---which is one of my gavorite tropes.💜 ⏯️ It's weird. I like lolita fashion, and i like mahou shoujo like Madoka Magica. But maybe Kasumi/Violet is in this weird middle ground that doesn't push the "girly" look enough to appeal to me. I mean, i love Madoka Magica, because the costumes are all fluffy and ruffley. But i dont really care about Sailormoon, until the Super S costumes got more elaborate, but even then, I'd still prefer the more lolita fashion looking style of Madoka Magica. ⏯️ And maybe that's also the overarching reason for my tastes: lolita fashion is inspred by Victorian dolls, and that's closer to my personal concept of formalwear, which I've always been drawn to. Violet doesn't work for me, because she's just wearing a leotard. But designs like Madoka Magica, the P5X Phantom Thieves, and Joker, DO work for me, because they better fit my personsl concept of formalwear, which i love.

12. I shouldn't be as annoyed as I am that episode 184 was basically more pointless stalling, it's honestly just a trend at this point. Is it bad that I actually laughed when Helios told Persephone that her birthday cards ain't shit? The way she actually tried to guilt-trip him for reporting her murdering people by saying "bUt I mAdE you Birthday Cards!!11" and him njust not having that shit. Beautiful. Also, as much as I was never a fan of Smythe's demonizing of Apollo, I'm not sure I like the direction she seems to go in now, namely the implication that Apollo's predatory behavior is really all Leto's fault because she encouraged it. It's yet another female character Smythe villainized just so Persephone could be the most perfect woman of them all in contrast to all these manipulative harpys on Olympus.

Under the readmore is aaaaaaaaall color god observations and musings based on them, because I am studying to become the world's Premiere Chromatheologian and RGB Understander so under the cut is pretty much Oops! All Spoilers! up to the most recent episode of season 3.

Apparently Universal Color God Attributes:

Damage to their domain hurts them, but fixing the issue, or lashing out by using their powers destructively, can help them to repair the damage.

If they sustain enough damage, it can temporarily paralyze them and send them into a strengthened but 'exposed' state (chartreuse's spirit activation in the last fight of 19) and further damage after that will activate a failsafe, which is unique by domain but seemingly designed to give them the chance to balance things, but can get… very out of hand or backfire depending on circumstances. (see: cobalt’s failsafe sending mark's universe into a never-ending apocalyptic war because word of the cure for death became too widespread for the killing urge failsafe to affectively balance anything because every side could simply revive their fallen.)

Chartreuse's failsafe is something of a stopped time bubble quarantine where processes that require the passing of time cannot complete, allowing her the time to wear down the offending party to beat them to death or plan around finishing them.

Cobalt's is inciting war, the casualties serving to balance the scale. I'm not sure we know Crimson's yet- he's never taken enough direct damage without doing damage to compensate in order to trigger it, although i dont remember season one well enough to recall if any of the universe stuff in it tracks with the pattern bc season one is a bit fucky

Connected in a fashion that allows them to simply Sense the overall status of the others to some extent, although they don't know Why theyre in the state theyre in without asking (chartreuse [and by extension, folk, presumably on her information] confronting crimson via crimsonaut for pretending to be dead, Cobalt confronting both his siblings about how they are handling their duties improperly but not knowing about Folk. He knew about the constants deaths because hes a death god, duh, but he didnt use their names like crimson did, possibly implying they're erased upon death so thoroughly that only crimson and the constants can really recall a shattered constants' existence, not even the other guardians.)

Abilities of the guardians can be replicated by mortals through three apparent methods- through machines (dimensional bus, the time machine, presumably J0hn's part in Sephiroth's resurrection,) simply through advanced enough individual skill (Home MD curing death, potentially Dantoinette's universe portal travel, maybe Genwun's sped up time bubble that evolved them into Genfour? although that could very well have just been an illusion and theyre just like, a fuckin theater kid that was doing pretend character development for the Bit or something given GenFive turned out to be a zoroark) or through stealing some of the power of the relevant god (Dr. Order stealing Chartreuse's power, Dani maybe having stolen some of Crimson's when she beat his ass. Dani's one woman universal travel is like, wicked ambiguous)

Cobalt:

Can seemingly perceive or act through any living material. (The Tree. Cobalt instructed Larry to slap his hand on that tree, that shit glowed and he had a new deal tattoo without Cobalt ever having been physically present)

Can influence the resurrected by giving them a killing urge. Represented by an aberrant brainwave and a ringing in the undead's heads. This doesnt appear to be direct control- as the Grunk could clearly restrain himself from killing people that genuinely didn't deserve it (like nightly and cha cha, who WERE grunk event targets but not fatally so. Nagito was a crimson thing so it really doesn't count here. God poor grunk his life really is just a constant plaything in the hands of the gods huh) and Sephiroth very much had personal motivation to want to kill Folk. failsafe activates this ability on the scale of war.

Deals. The extent of what Cobalt can do with these is unclear but Iggy's god powers were taken from him as his part in the deal so what he can take isn't limited to physical things or things obviously related to his domain.

Weaknesses:

Deals. While this ability is impressive his preference for making deals for those that offend against his domain is potentially very exploitable- Larry's knowledge of the cure for death is, if word of it were to ever get out beyond Larry, wildly dangerous for this dimension, so technically the safest thing for the iron-fisted cobalt to do would be to nip the problem in the bud and get rid of him. But, fascinatingly, that wasn't even put on the table, the first thing Cobalt does is threaten J0hn, prompting Larry to make a deal. While Cobalt enforces death, he also doesn't like unnecessary death, and Larry demonstrably knows how to keep a secret for the good of the world even at great cost to himself and Cobalt is aware of this- easily clarifying to Larry the aberrant thing endangering the universe wasn't his timeloop business. So while he's clearly not letting his resurrection fuckery go unpunished, he's being pretty merciful when he doesn't have to be and from a strictly, brutally pragmatic perspective probably shouldn't be.

His control over the undead manifests as a ringing and an aberrant brainwave trackable by J0hn's equipment, and could probably therefore be accounted for and circumvented? J0hn has, wisely, largely sworn off fucking with people's brains after the sephiroth fiasco went So Wrong, So Very Wrong, Oh God Oh Fuck Someone Cool Almost Died, but if he hadn't, and if J0hn let his dislike for authority and keeping Larry safe outweigh reason like he let safety, spite and comedic value outweigh good ethical sense when reprogramming sephiroth, in theory Mr. 'hacked a time machine for breakfast?' could. y'know. probably do it. what is a god's authority to an anarchist, what better to challenge life and death than the cold and eternal machine, you get the point its a fun scenario

Time Clones: taps into parallel timelines to retrieve alternate versions of herself to utilize.

Time Travel: what it says on the tin. Travel to the past creates painful splits in the prime timeline, but through careful action and traveling back into the past, these can be weaved into a time loop. A split from the timeline is a wound, and a successful timeloop is the surgical scar it can become with attentive care, to use a medical metaphor. Carefully closed and healing. Keeping Folk here is essentially akin to chartreuse pulling out her stitches on the initial incision.

Time Stopping: creates a space wherein things that take time to complete cannot complete, where things can move, but everything within is in a perfect unchanging stasis until the bubble drops. This is the form her failsafe takes.

Timeline Creation: can create timelines from scratch.

Can fuse alternate timeline versions of the same individual to allow them to coexist. (Ryan's confirmed in the discord that Dantoinette experienced both failures in 20, because Chartreuse fused the two instances of her to save the post-raid instance from fading. Could... theoretically do this to Folk and save herself the pain, but while Folk and Therapuppy are the same person, there's seven years and untold amounts of difference deriving from the time and circumstance between them and the inherent cognitive dissonances that would result from attempting that would be wicked fucked up to inflict, and that's assuming there isn't some reason that it wouldn't be possible anyway. while the two Danis had like. A day or so's difference between them, so she could be safely fused with the only dissonant thing being that she remembers both being too slow to prevent order's time escape and beginning to dissipate post-raid, AND losing that fight to her pre-raid. RIP Dani, that perfectionism must be kicking her ass)

Weaknesses:

Unwilling to use her powers destructively in her pursuit of domain repair and thereby much easier to damage to the point of paralyzing her, making her particularly vulnerable to Power Theft

Morally Optimistic. At one point in 19, she briefly justifies Crimson's shitty evil actions to herself after experiencing for herself how Wack the kerfuffleverse is firsthand, ("and all he did was kill a couple people!" Chartreuse. Honey.) and when she fights Crimsonaut she seems to actually believe for a second that he's actually worried about her when Crimson asks if she's okay after he beats her. Additionally, as D+, she concerns herself with trying to understand doctor order's motive, and after Larry defeats Order, he makes a point of confirming she feels no remorse before making his request for what Chartreuse does with her, and appeals to the idea of letting Order fulfill her desire to be a god in a way which isn't a problem for anyone and Chartreuse is more than happy to oblige under these conditions after what Larry's done for everybody. Then immediately threatens to evaporate him for playfully teasing her about having a crush on folk. Fucked up a little bit

Crimson's:

Universe Shifting: Travel between universes.

Universe Correction: appears to replace an aberrant individual with the 'correct' version of themselves for that universe, presumably sending them back to their own. (Mario from super mario was universe corrected, but still seemingly exists in wario form as evidenced by smashup kerfuffle, and was simply temporarily replaced with his corrected universe counterpart. But like. To counterbalance the weaknesses the constants have, they have a sort of spidey-sense to alert them to danger, and an intrinsic bonded connection to their fellow constants, and additionally, Crimson apparently doesn't suffer any pain from the death of constants or the structural instability of a universe.

Possession: what it says on the tin! Seemingly can only be done with permission to living things- none of crimson's direct hosts seem to have entered that agreement unwillingly, Valentine lost a bet, Hamburger and Crimsonaut have been by all evidence intentional allies to Crimson- but electronics are fair game, as seen with The Guy's suit. Kinda curious how that rule applies to bitches that are half and half, like J0hn or the clonebot gang, as its unclear whether The Guy's suit was yoinkable without permission because it was mechanical or because its not sentient. could go either way but if it's the former that's potentially very frightening

Fusion: Two individuals from alternate universes can be fused into one shared body which can take on aspects of either depending on which is currently in control. (possibly allows someone who traveled into a given universe to become a fixed resident there without it being an issue for Crimson, whose job is to prevent interdimensional travel?) Monday Mark and possibly T.O.M. are our main examples.

Corruption:

Unpleasant As Hell and can even kill you instead of changing you if you cant handle it.

turns the corrupted individual into a twisted exaggeration of themself, allows them supernatural control over their shape, and makes them very difficult- if not impossible by traditional means- to kill, based on Garfield.

Subjects them to control by Crimson, but can be exorcised of this influence just like crimson's direct hosts can, although the supernatural changes to their physiology are seemingly permanent, judging from Shantae.

Notable Weaknesses:

Exorcism can be performed to free a possessed or corrupted individual of Crimson's influence. Its unclear how exorcism works/is learned in CPUK, but confirmed exorcists: dantoinette and yung papaya's snake dad, confirmed non-exorcists: folk

The universal constant orbs are physical objects so they are Very Stealable and they grant a power boost so theres literally an Incentive to beat his ass for anybody who wants to be strong and either doesnt know or doesn't care about the whole 'getting erased when you die' part

Crimson has lots of tools to create pawns, but all of them have drawbacks. Corruption could kill a potential pawn, possession generally seems to require permission, and he has no control over the constants' choices and actions

Manipulative bitch's highest stat is charisma and it shows. This motherfucker is selling snake oil. If he was mortal rather than a Whole Entire God he'd make an excellent ineffectual saturday morning cartoon supervillain and i think everyone, including him, would be happier for it, ngl

Something interesting ive realized that likely wasnt fully intentional, is that a lot of Dr. Order's creations, considering her motive, can kind of be sorted by a color god it appears to be a crude attempt at mimicking the abilities of. My Grunk is a poorly executed resurrection, the clonebot gang vs chartreuse's timeclones (this one deserves special mention because Chartreuse used this shitty attempted mimicry to her advantage with D+, very smart and ironic play, excellent job Treusy,) spirits are somewhat similar to universal constant orbs (orbs which can be absorbed to grant power, but which have physical repercussions- key differences being that spirits require activation and grow stronger while attuning to a user without being used, and having far less severe drawbacks, taking a heavy toll on the body, but only once they've worn off and without the risk of wiping yourself from the face of existence,) and she also augmented Perfect Spriteman and Larry, which kind of track as crude imitations of Crimson's corruption!

Garfield was an acerbic cat who loved food and hated mondays, now its an actively malicious ever-hungry amorphous entity whose only weakness is monday and whose only consistency in form is 'cat-like.'

Shantae was (to my extremely limited understanding of shantae,) a friendly heroic type who had to introduce herself often, and she became something akin to a biblically accurate angel that can *only* introduce herself.

The Grunks a tough but sweet and supportive single dad with stage presence and a tendency to fly off the handle when he or his family are slighted, and now he gets so hype in the audience when his son does well that he bursts into flames and ascends and we get random grunk events along with the associated murder charges when he gets mad and the target sucks enough that he doesn't hold himself back from killing them.

Perfect Spriteman and Larry fit the trend of exaggeration of already present traits- Spriteman fucking loves sprite and became something that only thinks about sprite, and Larry the Florida Man, characterized from minute one by unpredictability and who spent his first matches in the series pre-shapeshifter transformation staying alive keeping stocks for Shockingly Long even despite getting seventh, became literally physically random as well as developing the ability to regenerate, albeit with the ability to feel pain normally very much intact, unlike Garfield just... Soaking up damage like its nothing in his pursuit of Jon. The fact that Arbuckle legit defeated Garfield, even temporarily, is terrifyingly impressive honestly that dude is fucking built different for being so chronically bland

i dont think they're actually corrupted in any meaningful way we have to worry about, to be fully clear, Spriteman was cured with fucking antacids, i simply think they could be a fucked up attempt at making something that kind of seems like it from a functional standpoint, from the wannabe god doctor that brought us green clones whose only fundamental association with time was accelerated aging and who thought an actively rotting corpse thats just reanimated enough that it can throw hands was as good as curing death
