Hi! You have a really cool blog and have been getting me into indie RPGs, so firstly just thanks :) But anyway, any RPGs that could work well in a play-by-post format, even if you'd need to homebrew or hack it a little? Online friends on the other side of the world are a beast.
THEME: Play-by-Post.
Hello friend! So I haven’t done a lot of play-by-post games, but I’ve tried it out once or twice. I think in many cases, you might not even need a ttrpg in order to do online roleplay; I’ve played in Star Wars pbp that used the FFG system, but I’ve also seen Star Wars forums that are completely text-based and host their own wikis on information that’s been established in their world to keep track of what's happened so far.
That being said, I can understand having a framework to help guide you, especially if you enjoy the structure of traditional ttrpgs. The possibilities of playing these games by post are vast, although I'm noticing that most of the old forums have migrated over to Discord these days - and Discord makes things like rolling dice so easy, so it makes sense!'
If you're converting a ttrpg that uses dice into something that is play-by-post, you'll have a dice-bot, while if you're using a game that has no dice, or is a little more free-form, then that's one less mechanical piece that you'll need to worry about. Other considerations will likely be things like where you put character sheets, whether the game will be organized in a West Marches format or more like a traditional story, and how often players will be expected to write up what they're doing.
All of this is to say that the following recommendations are just the tip of the iceberg, really. Some of these are designed for play-by-post, while others are just games that I've seen out in the wild before.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lords of Creation, by Five Points Games.
Lords of Creation is a rules-lite cooperative world building game with a focus on the Divine. Players create Divinities and populate a fresh, open world with a focus on myth telling and lore. The game is intended to be played via Play by Post, allowing players to run multiple societies, factions and elements at once.
Five Points Games clarifies in the game text that this game isn’t really their brainchild, but rather the culmination of play-by-post roleplaying on old WOTC forums. It’s a game about divinity and world creation, and each “turn” of the game takes place over the course of a real-time week. I think this gives a lot of time for each player to be involved in each step of the game, as well as providing in-universe ways to manage players who no longer participate, or who need to stop playing for one reason or another. Lords of Creation is also GM-less, allowing everyone to participate in a partial player, partial GM-style role.
Yowl! What A Strange Hotel, by Zargo Games.
Yowl! is a reviewing service that allows customers to rate establishments from 1 to 6 stars and tell the important details of their stay in a handful of paragraphs. This game is about telling the story of a particular establishment, in this case a hotel, through a series of Yowl! reviews. Reviews are from a different perspective each time, and should reveal something interesting and unusual about the hotel. Is there a dark secret that the hotel is hiding, or is something even stranger going on?
Yowl! looks to be designed for a shorter length of play. Together you will create a strange hotel, and then take turns leaving reviews, letting little pieces of information contribute to a larger story-line as you go. I think this is a relatively simple way of playing by post, although it relies mostly on each player’s creativity, as the game doesn’t come with any prompts.
World /Chronicles of Darkness Games (currently published by Onyx Path).
The World of Darkness franchise is a beast, and has been fuelling play-by-post form play for decades. There’s a number of reasons this collection of settings has been so popular.
It’s focused on factions and politics, which means that a large number of people can join in and fill out various political groups and start plenty of drama with each-other. Because the drama is so juicy, dice rolls can fade into the background. (I don’t think that stops you from being able to use it in a small group though!)
It’s got oodles and oodles of lore, but it’s set within the real world, so players can use something like Google Maps to create a fantasy version of a real-life city, and it provides a solid frame of reference.
It’s been around for a long time, which means that there is so much in terms of resources and advice that you can look at, such as the Onyx Path forums, or the WoD Discord Server.
The Chronicles of Darkness games are specifically designed to be cross-compatible. Changelings, Hunters, Vampires, Werewolves and more can all interact in the same universe - as long as the GM is on board with it. Most of the base rules are the same, with some tweaks for each splat, so if you have some players that really want to play a werewolf, while others are more interested in becoming mages, you can combine the two no problem!
Chuubo’s Marvelous Wish-Granting Engine, by @jennamoran.
The Chuubo’s Marvelous Wish-Granting Engine RPG is a dice-less RPG from Jenna Katerin Moran, author of the well-regarded Nobilis and an important contributor to Eos’ Weapons of the Gods and White Wolf’s Exalted RPG.
Pursue fabulous quests. Progress through Issues. And find a place for yourself in a world of breathtaking beauty.
Chuubo’s Marvelous Wish-Granting Engine doesn’t require dice, but rather asks you to role-play through scenes and spend points in line with your character quests. You gain XP for the experiences your character has, the way they interact with other characters, and the steps they take to move towards completing their quest. Because character advancement is dependant on role-play, I think Chuubo’s is a great way to prompt interactions in a play-by-post setting, and character advancement is both a compelling reason for folks to participate and an engine that feeds the storytelling machine.
The rulebook for this game can be a bit of a big read, but there’s a starter adventure included, with pre-built characters to help you get going.
Kids on Brooms and Teens in Space, by Hunters Entertainment.
Kids on Brooms is a collaborative role-playing game about taking on the life of a witch or wizard at a magical school you all attend that uses the “Powered by Kids on Bikes” system, first used in the award winning Kids on Bikes. Kids on Brooms is a rules-light storytelling system that takes you on magical adventures.
Teens in Space is a space opera RPG that uses the “Powered by Kids on Bikes” system. Teens in Space is a rules-light storytelling system that takes you into the cosmos for adventure and profit.
Both of these games use the teen-horror inspired game Kids on Bikes. Since these games rely heavily on polyhedral dice, I think setting up a discord server that also has a dice bot is the way to go with this one. You can choose a character from archetypes provided in the books, or create your own piece-by-piece. Different locations could be represented by different Discord channels, and since these games seem to work really well in regards to mysteries, I think a GM could focus on putting clues in different locations for characters to find, allowing the characters to slowly piece together a mystery over time.
I think Kids on Bikes is a kind of game that is going to require a lot more work to replicate as a play-by-post game than some of the other games on this list, because characters will need to roll dice in order to get things done, and it's best used in a small group. However, one thing I think really works well for these systems is the relationship questions that you roll on to determine how your characters relate to each-other. It gives you a connection right from the get go, and it can give the players something to work with while they're finding their feet.
Belonging Outside Belonging Games.
As a rule, Belonging Outside Belonging games don’t require dice, and as a common feature, BoB games don’t usually require GMs either. Characters are typically organized into playbooks; tropes or classes or collections of abilities that both define characters and make it easier for new players to find their rhythm. These playbooks will come with three categories of abilities: things that you can always do, things that require a token to activate, and things that reward you with a token when you do them. These games also usually include the setting itself as a playbook, or a divided series of responsibilities handed out to each player.
I can imagine a play-by-post form of game moving between descriptive scenes and active scenes, with players alternating between introducing elements of the setting / narrative obstacles; and describing how their characters react to these new events. (I've also seen this kind of thing happen on a Wanderhome server.)
Some Belonging Outside Belonging games that sound interesting to me are Lunar Echoes (a solar punk hack of Wanderhome), Geese at the Beach (chaotic water fowl looking for shines), and Capitalites (urban Asian young people trying to figure out who they are).
I hope you found this useful!

Angry, Sick, Overwhelmed, and Exhausted
So, I’m sick.
My husband has treatment on Friday. His doctor said I could be his caregiver if I’m Covid negative. I am. This doesn’t feel like Covid, just a cold with a really bad cough. But that makes no sense. I shouldn’t be around cancer patients getting chemotherapy at all if I’m sick. Who cares which virus or bacteria it is?
I do not understand doctors.
I’m going to trust my common sense. If I make a miraculous recovery, I’ll go. If I’m still sick, no way. My husband feels like he’s been fighting something too, so we’ll see….
My kids are frustrating me.
I hate that when I say that everyone gets concerned about them and not me. I saw a reel today about how motherhood should get to be about mothers. It rarely is. If mom is angry, sick, overwhelmed, or exhausted: what about the kids? Are they ok? It must be so hard to have a mom who is angry, sick, overwhelmed, or exhausted. What makes it worse is everybody knows that mom is angry, sick, overwhelmed, and exhausted because of the kids! (And the husband!) But never can we just be concerned about a woman, particularly a mother, specifically a middle-aged one, because it is so hard for kids/men to live with a woman who is angry, sick, overwhelmed, and exhausted.
Those are the people who are really suffering!
The ones who have to live with her! The ones who have to eat the food she cooks for them! The ones who have to be passengers in the car service she provides. They are the truly downtrodden!
My kids aren’t awful. It’s the usual teen self-centeredness and annual transition tantrums. They make me argue pointlessly and end up mostly doing what is expected of them but not before they spread misery around. I’m just so frustrated because life is hard right now and they are taking every opportunity to make it harder. Even the smallest thing. Ugh x 1,000,000,000,000.
Both of my kids are taking some online public school classes so we have to have parent/student calls with each teacher for each class. It is so painful to listen to teachers trying hard to form a connection with a somewhat surly teen they will never know. God bless them, because I do appreciate their thankless efforts. I’m also thoroughly annoyed by these calls because I feel like I’m getting a taste of the pandemic with a million zooms The whole point of enrolling in these classes was for me to have less to do. I know that will end up being the case, but the first two weeks seem to require a lot from parents.
I want to get away. I’ve googled travel all day. I’m pondering the idea of going solo for my 50th birthday. It just feels easier (and definitely a 75% discount!). I really need to get a break from my beloveds. I feel that in my marrow. But then I was surprised to find myself wondering if I would feel lonely or miss them if I went away. I just might. Do most women feel this way? I know I would feel sad that they missed a beautiful moment of life. Then again, they have a tendency to make those beautiful moments less beautiful with the baggage they bring.
I am longing for an escape. Not necessarily from my location, but from my life. I’d like to stop being mom/wife. I am really done with those roles. I still love my people.
I would just like to be myself again.
With them.
But more critically,
with me.
💕 Thanks for listening. I know it’s a lot of complaining, but this is my outlet.

Miami water slide rentals near me
Tumblr media
If you’re considering a splashy addition to your next party or event, finding the perfect water slide rental is key to ensuring everyone has a great time. Here’s what you need to know about Miami water slide rentals near me, including tips for selecting the best option and making the most of your experience.
Water slide rentals offer a fantastic way to bring excitement to any event, from birthday parties and family reunions to corporate gatherings and community festivals. With Miami’s year-round warm climate, a water slide can turn an ordinary day into a memorable adventure for kids and adults alike. Plus, with the variety of slides available, you can find something to suit every space and budget.
When searching for Miami water slide rentals near me, you’ll come across a wide range of options. Here are some of the most popular types:
Inflatable Water Slides: These are among the most common rentals. They come in various sizes and designs, from single-lane slides to massive, multi-lane setups. Inflatable slides are easy to set up and take down, making them a convenient choice for many events.
Slip ‘N Slides: Ideal for smaller gatherings or backyard parties, slip ‘n slides offer a more compact but equally fun experience. They usually consist of a long, slippery surface that ends in a splash pool, providing a thrilling ride without requiring a lot of space.
Dual-Lane Slides: For competitive fun, dual-lane slides allow two people to race each other down the slide. These are great for parties where guests are eager to challenge each other and see who can make the biggest splash.
Combo Units: Combo units typically feature a water slide along with other elements like a bounce house or climbing wall. These are perfect if you want to offer a variety of activities in one rental.
Custom and Themed Slides: Some rental companies offer custom or themed water slides, which can be a big hit for themed parties or special events. These can include everything from pirate ships to jungle adventures, adding an extra layer of excitement.
Selecting the perfect water slide rental involves considering several factors:
Space and Location: Measure the area where you plan to set up the slide. Ensure you have enough space not only for the slide itself but also for the safety zone around it. Be aware of any obstacles like trees, fences, or power lines that could interfere with setup.
Size and Capacity: Consider the number of guests and the size of the slide. For large events, you might need multiple slides or a larger model to accommodate everyone. Ensure the slide can handle the weight and number of users you expect.
Age Appropriateness: Different slides cater to different age groups. Make sure to select a slide that is appropriate for the age range of your guests. Some slides are designed specifically for younger children, while others are more suited for teens and adults.
Safety Features: Check that the rental company provides slides with proper safety features such as sturdy sidewalls, non-slip surfaces, and adequate splash pools. It’s also important to ensure the rental company is reputable and follows safety regulations.
Rental Terms and Costs: Compare prices and rental terms from different companies. Look for what is included in the rental fee—such as setup, takedown, and any additional equipment like generators or safety mats. Also, inquire about any additional costs for delivery or extended rental periods.
To find Miami water slide rentals near me, start with a local search online or ask for recommendations from friends and family. Check online reviews and ratings to gauge the reliability and quality of service from different providers.
Choose a company with a strong track record and positive customer feedback. This can help ensure you receive a high-quality product and reliable service.
Verify that the rental company is insured and certified to operate. This adds an extra layer of security and ensures they adhere to safety standards.
Good customer service is crucial for a smooth rental experience. A company that is responsive and willing to answer your questions can make the planning process much easier.
Before your event, make sure to review the rental agreement carefully and confirm all details with the rental company. On the day of the event, inspect the slide upon arrival to ensure it’s in good condition and meets your expectations.
By understanding your options and planning, you can make sure your water slide rental provides a day of fun and excitement for everyone. So dive into the search for Miami water slide rentals near me and get ready for a splashy adventure that will make your next event unforgettable!

The Gift Must Always Move: AI Commodification and the Fanwork Economy
Introduction: Artificial Intelligence
When you think of a fanfiction writer, what do you think of? Perhaps a teenage girl on her bed, wrapped in a blanket while typing furiously on her computer at 3 am when she has school the next morning. Or maybe some friends giggling between themselves as they brainstorm ideas. Possibly, you think of a neuroscience professor in a cozy sweater editing her Star Wars draft before uploading it. But you probably don’t think about an AI bot. You also might wonder what these things have in common with each other. However, the discourse surrounding artificial intelligence in online fandom spaces could provide an interesting look into the socio-economic practices of fandom and how AI might be contributing to online isolation.
On November 30, 2022, the AI software known as “ChatGPT” was released, marking the start of the AI Boom. Trained on large language models, this allowed users to chat with the program, ask questions, prompt responses, make it write poetry, complete homework, and translate text. The list goes on. As with most shiny new things, the denizens of the internet quickly adapted AI into their own interests, playing around in the seemingly endless sandbox that it provided.
Fandom response, much like everyone else, has been varied. Some people immediately flocked to this new technology, gleefully typing in prompts for fanfictions and fanart they wanted to see. In addition to ChatGPT, websites like Character.AI popped up where you can “talk to” an AI based on a character, similar to classic self-insert fanfictions. Some audio-based AIs can even replicate the voices of actors, making it so that these AIs can “act out” scenarios the user requests. Many shy fans argue that AI is a way for them to interact with their interests without the anxiety of requesting fanfiction from a writer or roleplaying. Like any new toy, people just want to play with it.
But the writers and artists themselves felt very differently. Ask a fanfiction writer their opinions on AI writing, and they’ll probably say something along the lines of “‘For fun' or not, AI fics should be banned from AO3 [a popular fanfiction website] all together” (quoted from Reddit).
These AIs work by scraping internet data and using pattern recognition to replicate it, a process that Dazed describes as, “creating software that automatically collects data from various sources, including social media, stock image sites, and (maybe most controversially) sites where human artists showcase their work, such as DeviantArt”. There’s the problem: artists and writers cannot give their consent for their works to be included in these scraped datasets, and many companies are not transparent about where they’re getting their data from.
But what does this mean for creatives, and how are online fan-spaces responding?
A Community of Gifts
The backlash against AI comes in many forms, but has been considerable within the general online fandom sphere, especially from fan artists and fanfiction writers. I’d like to propose that this attitude towards AI art and writing is intertwined with the economic model of fandom spaces, which might be classified as a “Gift Economy”.
A gift economy is defined by economist Paul Krugman as “an economic system based on gift-giving, in which goods or services get exchanged with no expectation of remuneration, reciprocity, or quid pro quo”. Gift economies often exist alongside other economic systems, but have also been observed in some cultures as the primary system, such as in some pre-colonial Indigenous North American tribes. Another example would be blood drives, in which a donator gifts their blood to hospitals and they might “receive the gift” again if they need blood.
Unlike more traditional forms of art, fan created art such as fanfiction, fanart, and fan edits (henceforth referred to as “fanworks”) exist in a legal gray area. Since fanworks are often created in reference to copyrighted works, it is difficult to create any profit from it. The legal battle between fan-writers and copyright holders is infamous within fandom.
There are, of course, exceptions. Copyright holders will usually turn a blind eye to fanart, and in Japan published fan-comics are sold alongside the canon works. But generally, it is taboo in fandom spaces to profit from fanworks. For example, in response to a recent uptick of Etsy bookbinders selling printed copies of fanfiction for hefty prices, writers deleted their works and said things like “I hate these sh*tty vultures who are destroying fandom spaces to make money before moving onto the next grift once we are burned to the ground”. The fandom consensus: you cannot and should not profit from fanworks, both because there are legal restrictions and because on a deeper level the gift economy maintains art as art, not as a commodity.
So if there’s no monetary reason for writing fanfiction, then why would anyone do it? Well, for love of the craft, of course. That, and for the cultivation of community. Fans contribute to the gift economy by providing their creative works, which they give without expectation of a return. Except, of course, there is a return, one that comes in the form of interactions and the strengthening of inter-fandom relationships. As Potawatomi author Robin Wall Kimmerer writes, “From the viewpoint of a private property economy, the "gift" is deemed to be "free" because we obtain it free of charge, at no cost. But in the gift economy, gifts are not free. The essence of the gift is that it creates a set of relationships. The currency of a gift economy is, at its root, reciprocity.” (Kimmerer, Braiding Sweetgrass)
The Death of Gifting
Now, the gift economy that was subliminally understood by fans seems to be dwindling. “Fandom Etiquette” asks that readers and viewers of fanworks interact with the art, whether that be liking, commenting, or sharing it with others. By doing so, they strengthen connections and expand the web that makes up fandom. But recently fan creators have been discussing the lack of response fanworks get. Long-time fanfiction writers talk about how they receive less and less comments, which almost any writer will say is more encouraging than a like. Meanwhile, newer fans feel hesitant to comment on these works, seeming to believe that it won’t be received well, especially if it’s an older work. However, an aspect of a gift economy is that no immediate response (or response at all) is expected, so longevity is created through delayed and continual reciprocity. This is in contrast to the capitalist emphasis on trends and relevancy. In the case of fandom, this means giving back and interacting with older fanworks. Even the “lurkers”, the fans that don’t post their own works or thoughts, are asked to simply reblog, as that is deemed the minimum amount of interaction. There’s a disconnect there between those who do understand the importance of reciprocity in a gift economy such as fandom and those who don’t yet understand.
I would like to submit that this lack of fandom reciprocity is indicative of a larger trend online where people feel more isolated in spaces made for community. When art is approached from a market-economy viewpoint, it forms a wedge between fancreators and non-creator fans, without realizing that in the same way that readers are hungry for writing, writers are hungry for readers. The gift is art, and the gift is reciprocity. Both positions are equally important because they are the same: fans.
The Consumer, The Readers, The Givers
When non-creators see themselves as viewers and readers instead of consumers, they realize that they can also be likers, commenters, dm-ers, and friends. Perhaps, they will allow themselves to be creators as well, even if their beginning is less impressive than those they look up to. There is no need to scrape other people’s art and writing to mash together something that they think “deserves” to be consumed by others. This is because they know that their art is not a commodity to impress with or sell, but a gift to be passed among a community. As Lewis Hyde writes, “We may not have the power to profess our gifts as the artist does, and yet we come to recognize, and in a sense to receive, the endowments of our being through the agency of his creation” (Lewis Hyde, The Gift). You give, you take, you pass along, you build community.
Fandom cannot be analyzed without acknowledging the alternative nature of its gift economy in relation to the domineering western capitalist culture. When AI is used to scrape data from writers without their knowledge or consent, it creates a contradiction in the fandom economy. The reader turns into a consumer again, and the role of the writer is undermined. It is a product without purpose or thought behind it, made in an instant to be consumed without reciprocation or community. Even if there is no profit created in most cases, it turns others’ art and mixes it into nothing but a commodity. AI poses as a capitalist and isolating force within fandom spaces, furthering the idea of fandom as a solitary activity.
A consumer accumulates, they do not share. The “gift” does not move. It remains stagnant and solitary, rejecting the integral nature of communal creation in the gift economy of fandom. Art is something that needs both a giver and a receiver. As Robin Wall Kimmerer writes, “To name the world as gift is to feel one’s membership in the web of reciprocity.” A consumer is lonely, while a gifter is part of a community. The gift must move.

Time to put the plan into action. We'll kidnap a VIP or die trying!
Here's a thought. When Shinigami freezes time so she can kick us into the Mystery Labyrinth Portal? Like. What if she didn't kick us into the portal? Could we wander around and gather clues in frozen-time before we take the leap?
I should ask her about that. That could be an incredibly--
Tumblr media
Oh, right, a murder is probably happening right now. Fink definitely nailed Huesca while I was asleep in the cell. Or is nailing him as we speak. Either way.
Tumblr media
I feel like I've been here before.
A sudden lapse in power and switch to backup power was an important clue in Chapter 0. Both Chapter 0 and Chapter 2 had "What happened during the brief time we were blacked out?" as important clues too.
Tumblr media
Most likely. The game is afoot!
Tumblr media
Then as long as it all came back online after the backup system started up, Huesca should be fine.
Presumably, with the power out, the gas chamber and laser chamber wouldn't be able to trigger. This, however, would not be enough to provide access to the lab. Quite the opposite; Each chamber is secured by big metal automatic doors.
Their default position is closed. Even if you're confident that you can sprint through each chamber before power returns, without power to open the doors, you wouldn't even make it past the unlocked entrance to the airlock.
The lab is arguably more secure when the power is off than when it's on.
Tumblr media
Oh, I'm sure he's dead. Fink surely got him somehow. I'm just saying, this can't be as simple as "Power goes out, stroll on in."
Tumblr media
Y'all had two perfectly good disguises. What happened to those? Did you eat them?
I don't have a disguise, but also I'm supposed to be here. If they come in and find me in this room, that's expected. You two should be able to suit back up and go find me something to wear. It should be trivial with all the commotion going on. This is not that big of a deal.
Tumblr media
You'll do fucking what? Yakou. Yakou no. What are you always telling me about taking unnecessary risks?
Tumblr media
The hell does that mean? What, are you gonna take photos of Yomi's cheating spouse? Recruit some of the Peacekeepers to help you find a lost cat?
Yomi: You think I would let you peddle your meager services in MY building? Only my Peacekeepers are qualified to find Mr. Tickles, the sharp-clawed arbiter of feline justice!
Tumblr media
Oh, okay, there's the suit. He does still have it on him. Good.
I still don't see how this is a better plan than the two of you simply acquiring a suit for me and coming back. Or you could go to Huesca's lab yourselves. I'm dead weight right now. We should not be planning around me.
Tumblr media
It's basic, but a good decoy plan. The nice thing about these Stormtrooper getups is that they're indistinguishable from each other, so it'll be easy for Yakou to slip away in the commotion once everyone realizes they've been fooled.

Together in the Storm Chapter 8: Flashback, The Gardens
Story Summary: Olimar is back home once again, ready to rest and recuperate from everything that had happened. Yet the universe keeps throwing unwanted surprises his way, making rest difficult. He just wants to make his (now rather large) family believe that he’ll be okay. Because he is, for he has to be.
Chapter Summary: Olimar's first date with Rose.
Read on Ao3 here or keep reading below!
======
Roughly 20 years ago...
As usual, Olimar felt like utter shit.
He plopped down on his futon, which was currently in bed mode. He barely had anything to his name in this little apartment, all of it of questionable quality. He got this futon from a yard sale, using it only after he had sufficiently soaked the damn thing in bed bug killer. He was still worried it may be a bit of a fire hazard as a result, but he couldn't do much. His dinky little TV was scrounged from a thrift store, costing less than a poko and barely working as a result, its antenna salvaged from his employer's scrap yard. Only the living room was furnished, his bedroom empty. All of his kitchen utensils were from the poko store and already falling apart...
He was alive, though. That was something.
He wasn't sure how thankful he was for that, though.
He was glad that he was given him a few months longer to stay home, to save up and get what little he did have. Maybe it was a sign that Taurus didn't completely hate him after all, at least not enough to happily leave him homeless... he didn't like calling Taurus by his first name like that. It felt wrong, rude even, but he wasn't sure what else to call him. The man certainly was no father.
Desperately wanting to think about anything other than work or that man, he reached for and grabbed his half-busted PDA (also salvaged from the scrap yard, its repairs hobbled together), turning it on. He didn't do too much online but there was one site he liked checking on every now and again. It let him see what precious few free events the city was hosting, providing him with some much needed time out of the apartment that wasn't work related.  After scrolling past countless posts he could care less about, he eventually saw something that caught his eye.
The community gardens have been set up at long last! Volunteers wanted to help us grow flowers, fruits, and vegetables for everyone to enjoy!
At the bottom was an address to where the gardens were, at the heart of a nearby community park.
Gardening... yeah, I can do that. Really, all of his knowledge was pure book knowledge. He had no actual experience in it yet. But hey, no time like the present, right? Sitting up and putting the PDA aside to charge, he decided to head out right away.
======
It turned out that the "volunteer" position was very lax and unofficial, not unless you needed community service hours for one reason or another. Olimar didn't, so he was pretty much free to come and go as he pleased. That was perfectly fine for him - preferable, actually, as he was still getting a feel for his new job and wasn't sure how much time or energy he'd usually have.
So after being handed some seeds and told where they were to be planted, he was more or less just let loose. He ended up spending more time than he expected there, coming back day after day to do many random tasks. There were days he missed, of course, but he was finding himself enjoying this far more than he expected. Which made him feel happier overall. It wasn't perfect - he still lived in that shitty and much too expensive apartment, eating whatever cheap junk he could afford and not burn to a crisp, all while cleaning offices and freight ships for ungrateful superiors for a living and trying to learn mechanics from a rather impatient man. But he didn't feel complete dread when waking up now, he had something to look forward too.
Most of the garden was still very much seeds and sprouts, nothing more. But there were a few full plants brought in, mostly flowers. So, one day, he decided to go ahead and prune the plants. Weirdly enough, he might enjoy this task the most. It was the most meditative, giving him brain space to let his mind wander as he hunted down wilted flowers. So meditative, in fact, that when someone beside him offered a quiet "hello", he flinched from surprise. "Huh? Oh, h-hi!"
The young woman was around his age, with curly reddish brown hair and fur slightly darker than his own. She wore a little bit of make up, just lipstick and eyeshadow from what Olimar could tell, and a pale blue sundress. "Ah, sorry. I just couldn't help but notice how often you came here, I just wanted to say hi. It has been a while, hm?"
"It-It's okay." Olimar stuttered out. After a slight pause so he could process what he was hearing, he rather awkwardly asked "W-what do you mean by "a while"?"
"Oh, I guess you wouldn't recognize me now." The woman laughed as she spoke. "We went to high school together, shared a few classes. We never got to talk too much - probably because I was so scary." That last part was said teasingly, though Olimar still wasn't sure who she was. He only realized who she was when she said her name. "I'm Rose. Rose Tailer-Atwood."
Images of an older teen in punk attire filled his mind, the girl who didn't take shit from anyone and was most certainly the second most terrifying person in that school (the first being some old math teacher infamous for being unnecessarily rude and short-fused with the students). The girl he ran from when she saved him because his dumb ass didn't know what else to do. She was now here, in the gardens, in a modest and very quiet attire suited for a visit to the temple.
"Oh - OH! S-Sorry I uh didn't - yeah, er... s-sorry for darting off after y-you helped me."
"No need to be sorry. I know I was rather intense back then, and that you were... or rather, still are rather timid." She chuckled again. "I'm just glad to see you again."
That made Olimar's brain short circuit. "T-T-To see... me?"
Rose nodded, now examining the work Olimar had done. "Always tried to talk to you, never was able to for one reason or another."
Olimar felt like time was moving differently. He couldn't tell if it was faster or slower or impossibly both, but he didn't quite feel... here, not fully. "Is - is that why you... helped me?"
Rose nodded. "Well, yes. But I would have regardless, you know. They could have seriously hurt you."
"Eh, t-they were just bullies..."
At that, Rose frowned and looked at him again. "Firstly, even that's still a big deal. I know they get downplayed a lot but bullies can mess you up. And secondly, they weren't "just bullies". They... could've done a lot worse."
At that, Olimar looked away. "R-Right, sorry..."
Rose sighed, now gently reaching out to touch his arm. "Hey, it's alright. You're okay now, yeah?"
Define "okay", Olimar thought bitterly, though he said nothing.
"And like I said, I am glad to finally get to talk to you. May I ask what you've been up to?"
"Oh, ah, just work." Olimar shrugged. "Uh, y-you?"
"Trying to find work." she sighed. "Turns out employees don't particularly like punks, only reason I'm wearing this dinky thing and not my jacket."
Oh, that made a lot of sense. Slowly and very awkwardly, Olimar offered a quiet "W-Well it... still looks nice. O-o-on you, I mean. Uh..." What are you doing what are you thinking what are you doing what are you DOING you are out of your league, what are you DOING?!
Rose didn't answer immediately, though she did smile softly. "That's sweet of you, thank you."
Olimar only managed to nod.
"May I see those?" Rose asked, looking at the clippers in Olimar's hands. He silently handed them over and watched as she continued the pruning task he had stopped in order to talk to her. "So, where do you work, hm?"
"H-Ho..." He stuttered, finding it difficult to talk. "Hoco - Hoco.. tate f-freight. I, uh, I-I clean. N-n-nothing great b-but..."
"It's important." Rose finished for him, though that wasn't what Olimar was going to say. "Very important, actually. I know you must hate it, but I think it's great that you're doing it."
"T-t-thanks."
Rose looked over to him with a soft, if worried smile. "Now, would you like to work together to prune these bushes?"
"Y-Yes, please."
======
The two of them stayed quiet for the most part as they worked, though Rose would occasionally ask questions or make comments that Olimar would struggle to reply to. Olimar's head felt foggy, anxiety eating away at his chest as he just... struggled to exist. Not in a way he was used to either, this felt different. He still felt compelled to keep trying despite the fact he desperately wished he'd just shut up for once and stop embarrassing himself. Though, Rose never seemed to mind. Her demeaner stayed calm, her voice sweet and gentle. At worst, she'd get a little worried about him. She was kind, and patient, and Olimar liked being around her. He just didn't like being himself.
Despite of and yet also because of this weird flurry of emotions, when Rose said that it was getting late and that she had to head home, he hastily offered to go with her.
"Go with me?"
"Y-Yeah, y'know... uh, walk... walk with you. M-Make sure you get home okay..."
Rose smiled softly at that. "Ah, I drove here. But you can walk with me to my car, if you wish."
Olimar nodded quickly and silently. He stayed by Rose's side as she walked back to her car, unsure of what the hell he was even doing. He felt so lost and confused and just...
"Hey, think you'll be back here at the gardens?"
"Huh?" Olimar was snapped out of his train of thought. "Oh, uh, yeah! I-I like to hang around here."
"So I'll see you again?"
Olimar felt himself flushing up, which for a Hocotation also included his fur fluffing up a bit. "I-I-I mean... If - If that's what you w-want."
Rose let out a chuff this time, only making poor Olimar fluff up even worse. "Of course. It was nice to finally get to talk to you, after all of this time. I'd love to keep it up."
"S-So I wasn't..." he bit his cheek. Don't say that, idiot. "T-Thank you. B-But there's uh -" he trailed off then, biting his cheeks down harder. WHAT are you doing?!
Rose tilted her head, frowning a bit. "But...?"
Well, fuck. There was no way out of this now. "B-But there's... there's better p-places to, uh, hang out. Than, you know, t-the gardens."
At that, Rose relaxed and smiled. "Oh, of course. Perhaps we can grab a bite to eat tomorrow for lunch."
"O-Oh! Uh, yeah - yeah, that... s-sounds good. M-Maybe at the c-café around the corner?" It wasn't super cheap, but he liked to treat himself when he could. This seemed like a fair reason to spend a little more then he probably should.
Rose giggled a bit at that. "Alright, it's a date then."
Olimar just nodded, not fully processing what was said. It was only after she had gotten in her car and drove away that it finally hit the young man.
"It's a what?!?"
======
Olimar felt like he had a huge pit in his stomach the next day as he stood in the mirror, getting dressed for his date.
He was so so so nervous, he felt sick. His stomach twisted and churned and he felt slightly light headed. He didn't know what the fuck he was doing. Looking around, he knew that this wasn't going to end well for him. If she ever saw this place, she'd know how pathetic he was. For a start, he lived on his own without a shred of inheritance - a great shame on Hocotate. A huge red flag to most as well, not caring for your family. Even if said family never gave you the option to... He was also dirt fucking poor, couldn't take care of her or any of her family, assuming she was the heir. And he was a slob, hardly having the energy to cook or clean after a day of work and being fucking miserable.
All of that is assuming you don't scare her off by how fucking annoying you are, Olimar. He felt even more sick; that voice didn't sound like his own. He knew he shouldn't give the guy any more thought, but... Taurus was right. You shouldn't go. Just stay home. Don't bother trying. What are you hoping to achieve? Why are you working so hard for a world that doesn't want you?
Why are you still alive?
An alarm sound from his PDA jolted him out of his spiral. He needed to walk out the door now if he wanted to be on time. Hastily, he finished tying his tie and slipped on some shoes.
He had nothing better to do, he supposed.
... And he awfully liked Rose's warm smile. As selfish as it was, he wanted to keep seeing it for as long as she'd tolerate him for.
======
Olimar's heart was practically threatening to burst from his chest as he made his way to the café. It was sparely populated, just a few people eating and drinking. Nervously, he found a comfy looking spot near a window. It was slightly warm here, which felt nice. A waiter came over to ask him if he wanted anything, and he declined "I-I'll order in a... A bit, I'm j-just waiting on someone."
He didn't know how much time had passed, to be frank. Everything felt like it was going much too fast yet much too slow at the same time. He looked up whenever he heard someone coming or going, growing nervous whenever it wasn't Rose.
Of course you got stood up, look at yourself. You'd just be a waste of her time, sitting there stuttering like an idiot. She's not coming. No one is coming. You're trapped in that hellish, rickety tower of an apartment complex. No one will wan-
"Olimar!" Someone called, jolting him out of his thoughts. He looked up, feeling relieved yet also more nervous to see it was Rose. She scurried over, taking a seat in front of him. "I'm so sorry, traffic was a little hectic on the way here. You didn't wait too long, did you?"
Olimar could only shake his head. He had no idea how long he's been sitting there, to be perfectly honest.
"Okay, okay good." She sighed, fiddling with her dress a bit. It was a bright, peppy yellow, though she did have a black leather jacket over top it. She was also wearing two small sun-shaped earrings.
She's really pretty, Olimar thought, flushing up slightly.
"This is a really cute little café you've picked out. I always drive by it, but I've never stopped by."
"It's - it's good. They make t-the best cookies."
At that Rose raised her eyebrows, her smile morphing into a slight smirk. "Ah, I see... I'll have to try them."
Olimar, once again, was only capable of nodding. Come on you idiot, you have to say SOMETHING. Thankfully, the waiter came to save him, asking what they wanted.
"Oh, t-the pita falafel sandwich, please. A-And a cup of mint tea." Olimar managed out.
Rose hummed as she looked over the menu in a slight rush. "I'll take the panini-pressed grilled cheese and tomato sandwich, with a cup of coffee." When the waiter nodded and left the two alone again, she whispered in a soft voice "So is that one any good? It was just the first item I saw."
"Oh - oh we could have waited to order if-"
She shook her head. "It's fine. I was late."
Olimar fiddled with his thumbs a bit. "O-Okay... Uh, yeah, I've always liked all their stuff, so... Y-yeah."
Rose nodded, smiling softly. "I take it you come here often?"
He nodded. "Y-Yeah, when I can. I-It's - it's a five m-minute wa..." He trailed off then, stomach twisting. No, no he couldn't just tell her that he lived in the city. Then she'd know he lived alone, with no inheritance. Only assholes ended up like that.
... And people like him, he presumed.
"Five minute... walk?" Rose asked, a brow raised.
Gods fucking dammit, he ran his mouth too much and now he was in a corner. He couldn't lie - she'd find out eventually, and the mere thought of it made his anxiety spike more. Clenching his hands a bit, he quietly admitted "A - A five minute walk f-from my apartment."
He couldn't read any reaction from her, which just made him more anxious. After a pause she smiled and nodded at him. "Must be convenient, hm?"
"... Y-yeah."
"I'm quite impressed that you manage out here, cost of living in the city is rather high from what I hear."
"It - It is..." She was impressed?! Olimar struggled to believe it, maybe she was just trying to be nice? "W-What about where y-you are?" That's a stupid fucking question. Of course it's much better there.
"Reasonable enough. I still live in Teno, where we went to school together."
Olimar was certain that he'd just die right then and there from how tight his chest felt. Thankfully, though, their food had arrived. Olimar could feel his stomach growl as the smell reached his nose - Oh, I forgot to eat breakfast again - and so after thanking the waiter he went ahead and took a quick bite. He then paused, hoping he didn't look like a slob or glutton, but Rose had begun to eat as well.
"Oh, this is good. Thank you." She smiled softly again.
Olimar nodded, trying to smile as well. "O-Of course." An awkward pause, then, "T-The best t-thing they have are... are the p-peanut butter chocolate cookies."
That seemed to gain her attention. "Oh?"
"Think - t-the simple peanut b-butter cookie recipe. Peanut butter, eggs, and s-sugar." He shuffled around awkwardly, though he tried his best to not seem so nervous. "Now a-add chocolate chips."
"Oh, that sounds so good. Simple, but sweet."
"I-I can get - get us some... W-When we're done with o-our lunch."
She nodded eagerly. "I may also have to try making some at home, I'm sure my little sister would adore them."
Olimar's ears wiggled. Should he ask about the cooking or her sister...? He really really didn't want to risk a transition into his own family troubles, so instead he asked "Do you - you like to c-cook?"
"I like it well enough." She shrugged. "It's something to be done - but it needs done, so I may as well try to enjoy it! Really, I mostly just like it when my sister gets excited when I cook." She then laughed a bit, the sound making Olimar flush up a bit.
"S-she sounds - sounds n-nice."
"Oh she's the sweetest little thing. When she wants to be." Rose laughed more then, and Olimar could feel a rather goofy grin spread across his face. "I adore her. Do you..." She then trailed off a bit, pausing. After a moment she asked "What do you like to do, then?"
She knew not to ask about his family. Olimar wasn't sure how he felt about it, equal parts relief and terror washing over him. "W-Well, gardening... For - for one." He said rather lamely, messing with his shirt sleeve. "Uh, I like - like biology. I've been - b-been trying to ID some n-native species."
Tumblr media
Her ears wiggled at that. "Oh! That's really cool, actually. Not to put you on the spot, but..." She pointed out the window. "Do you know what that butterfly there is called?"
Olimar turned to it and immediately his eyes went wide. "Oh - oh! There's one in the city - I never thought -!" His oddly longish tail began to loudly thump against the wall, though he didn't seem to notice. "That's a Ruby Hocotation Monarch! They have these beautiful red shimmering wings - " he pointed at the resting insect "- in order to signal to predators that they're poisonous! The caterpillars are similarly poisonous, and also rather pointy. Lots of spikes on them. They're endangered, though, due to habitat loss. I never thought one could do so well in the city, I-" he then froze, panic gripping him. He nervously turned to Rose, his ears pinned back and his tail still again. "A-Ah - sorry, I-"
She reached across the small table to touch his arm, making him flush up again. "It's alright, there's no need to be sorry." She smiled wide, though something about her expression told Olimar she was worried. "You can keep going, it's really interesting."
Olimar felt his fur fluff up more as he blushed hard. "Y-You sure?"
She nodded, then, "Why couldn't they do well in the city?"
"T-Their poison isn't - isn't inherent to them." He began, shuffling slightly. "They need t-to make it as caterpillars. They do so by eating a very specific and evidently very fickle plant. It's also, uh, the only one they can eat. There's so many things about the city that makes it nearly impossible to grow, so the caterpillars have no food, and thus there are no butterflies." He turned back to it, only to find it had flown away. "Maybe that one is here by mistake. Or maybe it's a good sign?" He shrugged, smiling nervously. "Either way I'm - I'm glad I got to see it."
Rose had pulled back a bit now, though she still kept a few fingers on his arm. "Poor things... Guess they gotta make it out here one way or another, though. That one is certainly a little fighter, if nothing else."
Olimar paused for a long moment. He then nodded in agreement. "Yeah..."
They stayed quiet for a few moments longer, eating and staring out the window. It didn't feel awkward, though, just... Blissful, in a way. Olimar loved it; he never wanted it to end. Though eventually they finished their food, and Olimar offered to get them some dessert.
"Sure." Rose hummed. "I'll try those cookies you had mentioned."
It wasn't much longer until they had a small plate of them to share. Rose's eyes went wide in delight as she took a bite out of one. "Oh my good Go- this is amazing!"
Olimar nodded. "S-So much with so l-little..."
"Yeah, I'm absolutely making some. Lilly would go nuts over this."
"I-I'm glad you l-like them." He picked one up to take a bite out of as well. "They're - they're my favorite." He shuffled in place awkwardly again, though he tried to smile.
Rose smiled back, gently brushing over his hand now (which really caused the poor man to loose composure quickly). She then glanced up at the clock and sighed.
"I'm so sorry, my being late has really cut our date short. I'm afraid I'll have to get going now."
"O-Oh - okay." Olimar tried not to let his ears lean back too much. "L-Let me go and p-pay our bill then-"
"Oh you don't have to. We can split it."
Olimar shook his head. "N-No this... Is - is my treat. I picked - picked it out."
Rose paused then before sighing rather dramatically. "Fine. But next time is my treat, then."
Next time. Olimar was too tight chested to argue, simply nodding instead. The two of them stood up together, Olimar heading over to pay the bill. He then walked out with Rose, still nervous as all hell.
"S-So will I see you at the gardens, then?" Olimar asked.
Rose smiled a bit before chuckling. "Yeah. I'm usually there every weekend, though I won't be there tonight. Want to plan our next date when we meet up there again?"
Olimar nodded eagerly at that, immediately feeling silly for it. Rose simply smiled in response, though, even leaning in to gently kiss his cheek. "I'll see you then, okay?"
Olimar had frozen completely. He managed to let out a little "O-Okay." But as Rose turned to leave he was left standing there, his fur fluffed up as if he had just used a hair dryer. His tail had even began to wag again.
I'm going to get to see her again!

How to Find a Trusted Online Smoke Shop: 4 Tips to Know
Tumblr media
Finding a trusted online smoke shop is a challenge; after all, it can be a deal breaker. If you do not find the right smoking accessories, the much-anticipated experience can be a disaster. With the advancement of technology, brick-and-mortar shops are going online. From an online smoke shop in UK, you can find accessories from water pipes to dab rigs.
Ergo, you can expect an excellent collection of smoking devices online. Now, if you are someone who has been wanting to purchase smoking devices and accessories from the comfort of your home, an online source is just perfect. However, you need to keep in mind a few things before making the final decision. Let's check out the tips mentioned below!
Quality Matters
A good smoke shop prioritises quality; hence, this determines the service of the shop. Quality smoking devices and accessories last a longer period. Plus, you can see a detailed product description before buying the items. This is the perfect way to understand the features and specifications before making the right decision.
If you choose a trusted smoke shop, you can stay assured of a quality range. You can also compare the prices and find a vaping pen or disposable vape according to your budget.
Look for a Wide Range
You can find online smoke shops in abundance, but how do you know which one you can invest in? A convenient smoking experience is everyone looks forward to. So, you need to choose one that offers the maximum variety.
Finding a shop with a limited range is not something you would expect. But getting the perfect smoking devices and accessories will always ensure value for money along with satisfaction. Once you visit an online smoke shop in the UK, make sure to take a glance at the variety.
Understand the Terminology
If you are a beginner, you may feel confused seeing the lingo. It is important to get the hang of those words whether you are buying a pipe or palm wrap. If you fail to understand the terms, it will be a challenge to comprehend the rules and regulations.
This also means that you are following the rules and regulations. Anything being sold in the smoke shop should be legal. And when you are typing on the search bar, you may refrain from using the word "bong". Instead, you can use waterpipes. It's best to gain knowledge before using the term.
Enjoy the Convenience
When buying online, you must be looking after convenience. If you choose an online smoke shop, you can access the ease of the shop being open 24x7.
When finding a trusted seller, you should look for a shop offering free delivery across the UK. Some shops also provide new-joiner discounts. If a shop has loyalty programs, you should keep it in mind.
Last-minute Thoughts
Even if a smoke shop looks fantastic on paper, the online reviews speak the truth. Do research online to find reviews from previous customers and shape your expectations accordingly.
You can find quality smoke accessories on Olivastu. For a quality range, check out the website now!

diff anon, but i’m wondering if the immediate referral to (potential) medical service has anything to do with the fact that access to that service is related to why many young trans people attempt suicide. the medical community knows the statistics and knows that it’s life saving care for many young trans people, so even just referring them there could be life saving. that doesn’t necessarily negate your point about needing more counselors involved in the process, though. perhaps there should be psychological counseling during the waiting process. i’d imagine that might lead them to be vulnerable to the not-always-impartial whim of a psychologist though. (also i’ve been following you since your gender confusion era and even *I* nearly unfollowed you at first because putting ‘affirmation’ in quotes is big terf energy. figured i’d give you a chance to explain.)
I put affirmation in quote marks just to emphasize the word, not to show a disbelief or dismissal of the service. I agree that it can and has saved lives.
However, I also think that viewing my words as terf energy is....ridiculous. TERF rhetoric is a very specific thing, but this acronym is used so frequently to quiet someone who raises a concern about gender issues that doesn't immediately align with 100% support for affirmation, that it has become diluted. We should reserve terf for what it is - some chronically online feminists who do not believe trans people are sane/real and would rather ignore/eradicate them. A terf is not anyone who wants to discuss shortcomings in the current medical approach to dysphoria. The more we bandy around a word like terf when someone attempts to discuss an alternative view, the more people are going to give up and go "yeah well then i am a terf". And we get nowhere.
Anyway!
I do agree the waiting process is flawed. Even when someone is a fully prepared and intentional, they still just have to wait for sometimes 1-2 years; and in the meantime there's nothing really provided. I think that this waiting period can be what drives some people to a more dysphoric state, because their desired outcome is almost in their grasp and they may get tunnel vision towards it.
I also think that the constant reference to affirmation service as 'lifesaving' puts so much pressure on everyone; the clinics, the young patients, the parents of young patients. It makes it look like the only option if you want to be happy and not die. And if you don't send your child there, they will die. You know what was life saving for me? Not transitioning. Spending lots of time thinking and realising things about myself. Going to counseling to talk through other things unrelated to gender. Getting out of my solitary bubble.
But, big but; because I never formally began the medical transition process (only socially) I am not a measurable statistic. I never became a patient to a clinic, so my experience is not traceable. Those who medically transition are a quantifiable group. Those who commit suicide are also a quantifiable group. We can use these 2 data sets to show the correlation; affirmation = lifesaving. But there's is no data on the amount of people like me who went through phases and changed their minds and are happier because they came out of that phase rather than following through. It shouldn't be controversial and 'terfy' to tell young people "sometimes it is just a phase" - phases are valid and help us discover things about ourselves, and the end result after the phases can be something we didn't expect.
So to constantly present 'affirmation' as the only lifesaver creates very loaded ideas in the individual's mind; you feel this is the route to your true self, you see older people saying they wish they'd done it sooner, you read encouraging statistics about people's life after transition, and you read depressing statistics about those who kill themselves because their family wont let them access transition when they're a teen; and then you have to sit around waiting for 2 years, getting more desperate to reach that 'lifesaver' with all this info in your head potentially blinding you to other possibilities of growth and expression and the lives you could lead if it does turn out to be a phase.

Create a YouTube channel: In addition to embedding videos on your website, blog, and social media profiles, you should also consider creating a YouTube channel Consumers and business professionals may turn to this channel to watch everything from product reviews, demo videos, and testimonial videos to instructional how-to videos, expert interview videos, and presentations from past webinars or conferences.
