I noticed two things about this picture that might just be a coincidence, an easter egg or something else. Firstly, @shadowetienne made an amazing post where he pointed out that the members in the Season's Greetings pictures seem to be looking at their partner out of frame, and Nine was the only one looking into the camera - here he's the only one looking at his unit partner while everyone else is looking into the camera, save for Rie who's looking off to the side, which makes sense since he's looking toward a different future for now. Then I remembered that Nine's solo song for Bump Up Business was Stay In My Love, and now I have to wonder if him looking at Mill might also be a reference to that considering the title of the single is Stay, in both cases written in a way that's unusual for their song titles since letters other than O are capitalized. Idk just something to think about while we eagerly await more teasers.

To be honest the clip of Kyubin commenting on Wookjins body has been bothering me it was uncomfortable...

I know that it is a societal standard. The mentality that being skinny=healthy, and likely Kyubin is actually super insecure about that too and likely fixated on his own weight as well, but my problem is really just him imposing these ideals on others as well. The way wookjin looked towards the end, obviously I could never know how he was actually feeling, but his smile was gone and I do feel like it was hurtful. Even if wookjin didn't particularly mind, KB saying all this live while fans watch? Just why? I wish he would be wary of what he says. Despite all this I can't help but feel sad for all of them.

handholding in bump up business

i already mentioned in my skinship post that the handholding in bub isn't just a way to show romance and intimacy, it also illustrates the progress in jihoon's and eden's relationship. it's one of my favorite aspects of the series so i want to talk about it more.

the first moment i'd like to mention happens in episode 1 when jihoon and eden shake hands during the introduction meeting. this marks the beginning of their "business relationship" and it could be just that but then jihoon pulls eden in for a hug, pushing the boundaries and making it pretty clear that in an arrangement like theirs the lines between "business" and "something more" can get blurry very quickly.

the first time jihoon takes eden's hand happens later that episode, in front of the fans. it's obviously something he does to keep up appaerances, still strictly part of their "business relationship", but he's not entirely cold about it. he waits for eden to give his okay, because while he may like to push eden out of his comfort zone a little, he knows the only way this "performance" can work is if they're in it together. eden accepts this in the moment but that doesn't stop him from questioning what happened later that night when he's lying in bed. (he is already attracted to jihoon at that point which is why it's hard for him to draw a clear line between performance and reality.)

the second time they hold hands happens in episode 3 and it's very smiliar to the moment in episode 1. it's a performance for the fans but this time jihoon doesn't just grab eden's hand, he waits for him to take it. when eden does, it's a signal that yes, they are in this together.

we don't get any hand holding in the next episode but there is the kiss, which changes a lot of things (even if eden doesn't remember it). that's made very clear the next time they hold hands during the plane flight in episode 5: it's the first time they don't do it for an audience (they're in public, yes, but they're not performing for anyone) and it's also the first time eden takes the intitiative instead of jihoon. there's also a different motivation behind it: eden is worried and wants to comfort jihoon but isn't sure how, so he does the only thing he can think of: grab his hand. it's clearly instinctual and not part of any plan, so very far from "business". and that's exactly why it means so much to jihoon, who even thanks eden for "what he did", even though it was "only" holding his hand.

then there's episode 6. it's a very tense situation, with jihoon being full of worry and then, after he discovers what happened, anger at hyunbin (and eden too for being so naïve). again it's jihoon that's reaching out but eden grabs his hand almost immediately. it's reassurance because he knows jihoon cares and won't let anything happen to him. i also love the way they both readjust their grip, eden a bit more subtly, hesitantly and jihoon one finger after the other, like he's scared if he doesn't hold on hard enough eden will run off and get in trouble again.

the next scene is actually one of my favorites, just because of how cute it is. jihoon grabs eden's hand so he can pull him along and eden just returns the grip as if it's instinct. (at this point it probably is.) (i also like the face jihoon makes right before reaching for eden's hand, it's a very typical wookjin fox face haha.)

which brings us to the second plane scene, probably the most intimate of all the handholding moments. again they're technically in public but they don't do it because it's part of their performance. jihoon needs (and wants!) the closeness and comfort and eden wants to be there for him. at this point they're both aware they're in love with the other and while they may not know their feelings are reciprocated, it's clear that they've gotten a lot closer than is usual for members of the same group. unlike all the times before their fingers are interlocked, which makes this feel a lot more intimate and romantic. they're also touching in other ways: eden holds onto jihoon's arm and they're leaning into each other. and then there's the thumb stroking... (seriously, if this was an anime there'd be pink hearts floating all around them.)

the last handholding scene happens after the love confession. it's clearly a substitute for another kiss but it works because we've established handholding as a way jihoon and eden show their affection for each other. it's also a nice parallel to the scenes in episode 1 and 3 where the handholding signals the start of jihoon and eden's "business relationship" – only now it's the beginning of something real.

all in all i think using handholding as 1) a stand-in for more kissing (because let's be real, having ONE kiss in a kbl with members of the same group is already a bit risky, as sad as it is) and 2) a relationship marker was a smart choice. and mill and nine do a good job making it seem natural.
