Battle Royale
Pool Party! (E-5)
These birds are loosely grouped by their associations with water, and because I didn't want the family BR to get too big. Keep your eyes peeled- there may be someone here who got a little lost, but we don't discriminate here!

BOTD: Purple Gallinule
Tumblr media
Photo: Andy Morffew
"This gallinule is a striking bird, big, brightly colored, and noisy. With its strong legs and long toes, it runs about on open shorelines, walks on floating lily pads, and clambers through marshes and waterside trees, flicking its short tail nervously. Nods its head as it swims; flies short distances with legs dangling conspicuously. Found mainly in the southeast and the tropics, but single birds sometimes stray far to the north at any season."

Birdwatching
Bucky wasn't sure what he was seeing.
He thought he spotted a particularly large falcon, but the closer he got, the more it looked... human-shaped?
Which wasn't a thing he would find while wandering a national park.
The wings couldn't be real, could they?
No.
This was getting weird.
Bucky wasn't some creep who spied on men in the woods wearing realistic cosplay wings that could - twitch on command? Bucky came here to see Red-Winged Blackbirds and Black-Bellied Whistling Ducks and American Purple Gallinule, not men.
Bucky wasn't checking out men on his university-funded excursion.
"You saw me."
Bucky stumbled backward, hitting his head on a tree. He winced as he saw - Bucky didn't know what LARPing group this man came from, but he was covered in jewelry and had the most intricately patterned silk pants Bucky had ever seen.
"I know. Sorry about that. I'm usually not a creep. Oof. No. that sounds worse. No excuses, I am so sorry - " Bucky started before his mind wandered because...
This man's eyes. Absalon Tulip eyes framed by dramatic, bronze eyeliner and a draping jeweled headpiece that glittered in the sun.
"Curious. Most people outside my realm can't see me," commented the man, looking Bucky up and down, "Was it the looking glass that aided you?"
"What?" asked Bucky, not quite keeping up with those eyes staring into his.
"Samuel. Of the Falcons. First of My Name. Explorer of the Waters Above. I prefer Sam," said the man as Bucky noticed the wings were real, "No wings here? How strange."
"Bucky?" blurted Bucky, "You thought I'd have wings?"
"Well. I'm not disappointed that you don't," said Sam as he offered his hand, "Show me your realm?"
"Sure," Bucky said without thinking, grabbing Sam's hand.
How could Bucky not?
