Subconsciously baby proofing spaces like the home and car. Anything harmful or threatening to a baby must go. - Buck x reader

When Buck returned from work after a 24 hour shift at the station he was exhausted, they’d had a lot of call outs. When he got into the apartment and found that there was an extra lock on the door, he didn’t really think anything of it. But when he went into the kitchen to get a drink of water and found that there was a lock on the fridge and one of the cabinets and he began to get suspicious. He had a hunch having baby proofed Maddie and Chimney’s place when they moved in together when Maddie was pregnant but surely his girlfriend would’ve said something by now wouldn’t she? He checks the draws to ensure his hunch was on the right track and he nods upon seeing that the sharp knives have all been placed in their own protective draw.

“Y/N?” he calls out, knowing that she would be in the middle of her morning routine

“Yeah babe?” she calls back and he says

“Can you come here please?”. He waits for her to make her way into the kitchen and she looks up from her phone

“What is it Buck?” she asks and he points to the fridge, the cabinets and the drawers

“Do you want to explain all of this babe? Is there something you want to tell me?” he asks and she looks at you and says

“Oh I had Jee-Yun over last night and wanted to make sure that she was safe” she says and you shake your head knowing that’s not the full truth

“Y/N? Jee’s almost four years old, she’s out of needing those locks on the cupboards and the fridge. What’s really going on?” you ask and you hear your girlfriend sigh before she pulls out the pregnancy test from her back pocket and hands it to you

“We’re having a baby?” you ask when you see the positive sign

“We are” she says and you beam as you place it down on the counter and rush to pick up your girlfriend and spin her around and then kiss her

“I am so happy Y/N, so happy this is happening for us” you say and she smiles placing a kiss on your cheek

“I’m happy its happening for us too Buck” she says as she moves your hands from where their resting on her waist to her tummy.

Amy and Jonah. Pretty much everything Superstore I'm going to prefer over B99 because Superstore is committed to depicting a certain This Is What Life Is, These Are Real People quality even though they also depicted sitcom wackiness. Plus, I'm more inclined to prefer a show about people trying to get basic workers' rights and trying to making a living in the face of corrupt corporations over a show about cops.

Like, I think Amy and Jake have a better chemistry,

I believe their vibing more than Amy and Jonah's

but Amy and Jonah's story, the realism of it, the messiness/complexities of it

the human-ness of it

is just something I really appreciate.

The two of you were sat lazily entwined on the couch that had been conjured in the room of requirement back in your fifth year. Now here you were just days away from graduating from Hogwarts, your NEWT exams finally finished as of this afternoon, beside your boyfriend of the last year and a half. Ominis had asked to court you upon your return from the summer holidays between your fifth and sixth year and you were more than happy to agree, having developed major feelings for him during your first year at Hogwarts. Fiercely loyal and protective of his friends he had been there for you when Sebastian had decided to flee after killing his Uncle and his sister had turned against him. Even though you had sworn you weren’t going to turn him in you were positive that he felt someone would, and Ominis and you had lost a best friend that day. You heard from him occasionally in letters that he sent, but he always said never to write back to him and so you didn’t at his wishes. You knew he was safe and that was the main thing. Your pulled from your thoughts when Ominis pulls you closer to him and nuzzles his head into the crock of your neck, a favourite resting place of his. You moan when you feel the light kiss he places their and feel his lips turn up into a sweet smile.

“I can’t wait for us to be out of here. For us to settle down and have a family of our own. A baby, with a mix of both of us” he whispers and you turn towards him, having thought of that before, but honestly you hadn’t thought that Ominis was thinking the same thing. It made you so happy that he wanted the same future together that you did

“You mean, you want to start a family with me?” you ask 

“Of course I do my beautiful girl, since the moment we started courting I knew you were it for me”

#58: “You’re never this quiet, What’s wrong?”

When Jake had first become a detective, he thought that he was probably the most earnestly invested in what he did. After all, he worked the job he had been dreaming about since he was a kid and god he loved what he did. 

‘How could anyone be more into this than me?!’ Was a constant thought that ran through his head throughout the entirety of his first years getting perps.

Then the one Ms Amy Santiago joined the nine-nine and Peralta was thrown through a loop as he considered if it even looked like he loved his job anymore.

Fast forward a few years, he ended up marrying that very adamant detective and the two acted as a crime-stopping super-team.

Their equal love for what they did mean a lot of over-time and personal hours invested in their cases, making it all that much harder to find time for one another.

Some times, just sometimes, however, all the stars seemed to aline and Jake and Amy found themselves with time to bond and hang out like a married couple should.

It was late into the afternoon and the couple had accomplished all that they needed to do, eat breakfast, take a shower, and get up. not in that order.

Now the two laid on their couch, watching the T.V. Usually, Amy was pretty against watching the t.v. as she found it: “pointless and a waste of precious time I could be organising something or making something that Holt would appreciate” But Jake and his magical reasoning skills were able to convince her otherwise that afternoon.

What that really meant was that he basically just promised that they could watch the Smithsonian channel and she could organise those binder tabs that she had been meaning to do. 

She agreed the second organisation was mentioned.

So there the couple laid on the couch lazily, to each their own.

Jake, not at all interested on whatever history mumbo-jumbo the fancy speaking old man was saying on the tv, instead he equally divided his attention to trolling through Diehard chat rooms, trying to snoop the possibility of another movie being made, and starring Amy.

 The second wasn’t intentional. It was just he could see her from his peripheral vision, and she was so cute as she tried to manically fix her binder collection, Jake couldn’t stop looking.

“You haven’t talked in like thirty minutes and in all the time that I’ve known you, you’ve talked through every single movie we’ve ever seen, including the aeroplane safety videos which is crazy if you ask me,” Amy looked In Jake’s direction, rearranging the pile of dividers laying in her lap. “You're never this quiet, what’s wrong?”

“No nothings wrong, I was just thinking” He cleared his throat.

Any gave him an incredulous look, Moving her supplies on the coffee table in front of her. “Okay, you never think, what’s the matter?”

Jake just sighs, knowing his cover was blown he looks down at his hands “No nothing is wrong Ames, it's just, I was actually thinking... thinking about us,”

Amy’s heart dropped to the pit of her stomach he seemed so calm, so calm it was troublesome. She adjusted her posture so that she was sitting more professionally, she didn't want to give any tells of her worry “Thinking about what?” 

“About how much I love you and how perfect our life is,”

Amy’s tense shoulders dropped as she felt her heart swell, a little ‘aww’ escaped her lip as she leaned over to kiss him.

“I love you too,” she said against his lips, moving so that their foreheads rested against one another as the tone in her voice completely changed “We should turn off the tv-”

“Uhuh” Jake’s voice followed, his eyes lighting up in excited curiosity

“Change into something a little different,”

“Uhuh”

“And go get some ice cream from the new place across the street!”

Jake jumped up from the couch like a little kid, “Hell yeah! God I love you so much, babe”

S02E09 - The Road Trip

(Follows on from Jake and Amy leaving the dinner table after the revelations, filling the gap before Jake knocks on the door.)

It wasn’t until the receptionist called out “Excuse me Sir,is everything alright?” that he realised he’d been stood transfixed on the staircase for who knows how long.

“Uhh… What? No.” He struggled in response, still staring at the flight of steps that led to the rooms upstairs.

“Is there anything I can do to help then Sir?” the young blonde haired woman at reception asked tentatively.

“What? No, I’m okay. A-okay. I’m fine. Super fine in fact. Super-de-duper fiiiii…” he trailed off after he finally turned towards the reception desk, mid-sentence, to see the bemused look on the receptionist’s face blinking back at him.

“… I’m going to go… that way… over there” he points to the open double door leading through to the lounge bar and then slinks off embarrassedly through them.

He walks through the lounge and straight up to the bar on auto-pilot. Most of the guests staying at the Maple Drip Inn were still through in the restaurant, they hadn’t even made it to their appetisers, so the bar is all but empty.

“What can I get ya?” the bartender asks Jake as he grabs a seat at the bar.

“Anything but damn Pilsner’s…” Jake mutters under his breath while shooting a glance through the open door-way in the general direction of the stairs.

“Maybe. Yes. A little, I was confused.”

Jake was pulled out of his musings by the bartender clearing his throat.

“Sorry man. Double scotch please, neat.” The bartender walks away to fix his drink. Jake leans his elbows on the bar and runs a hand through his hair. Drinking copious amounts of scotch felt like the dumbest, and best, idea at this point. He was going to need to seriously think the latest events over, and having a scotch to steady himself seemed like the most appropriate accompaniment.

The short glass of amber liquid is placed in front of him and the bartender barely has time to pull his hand away before Jake has sunk it and gestures for another. He undoes his top button and rolls the sleeves of his dark shirt up to the elbow. The bartender places another scotch in front of him. Jake looks up and sees his reflection in the mirror mounted on the back wall of the bar. The second he makes eye contact with himself he sharply looks away and turns to look out of the window at nothing in particular.

“I think I’d be pissed at myself if I don’t say this… I kinda wish something could happen between us romantic-stylez…”

“I’m sorry, it’s going to cost HOW MUCH? You’ve got to be kidding me!”

The raised voice from the reception shakes Jake out of his daydream. He instantly recognises it as Teddy’s. Jake slides off of his bar stool and walks quickly and quietly towards the open doors leading to the reception. He pokes his head around the door frame to see Teddy standing at the reception desk with his back to him, having a heated discussion with the young blonde from before. His weekend bag is laying at his feet.

“I’m sorry Sir but that’s the only room available on such short notice.” The receptionist explains apologetically.

“Fine. I guess it’ll have to do. Don’t have any other option do I?” Teddy hands over his credit card and starts to turn around to pick up his bag. Jake springs back away from the doorway, his back flat against the wall and guilt floods through him.

Amy hasn’t changed her mind then. God, I hope Teddy doesn’t decide to come through for a Pilsner’s to drown his sorrows.

Jake’s fear is assuaged as he hears footsteps, which he assumes to be Teddy’s ascending the stairs. He breathes a sigh of relief and looks up to see the bartender staring at him with a puzzled look on his face.

“It’s okay. I’m a cop.” Jake announces across the bar to the bemused bartender in an attempt to explain his frankly strange behaviour. He pushes himself away from the wall and walks back over to his seat at the bar. He picks up his drink and swirls the liquid round, staring blankly at it.

“You want to know why she went out with him and not you?”

“Yeah.”

“Because he actually asked her out.”

Jake shakes his head and finishes his scotch. Without prompt the bartender takes his glass away and starts to pour him another.

What am I doing here? Why am I not upstairs with my smart, funny, smoking hot girlfriend? Why am I even sitting here knocking back scotch like the world has ended?

This is a no-brainer. Amy used to like me. Past-tense. Sure, Teddy is convinced she still does but he just doesn’t get that we are partners. We’re close as hell, but if Amy wanted something to happen romantic-stylez she’d have said something or broken up with Teddy ages ago.

Sure it was dumb of me to invite Teddy up here without asking her if she was cool with it. I was just being a good friend. A good partner. But I shouldn’t have gotten so involved. Sophia must be furious. She’s such a cool girlfriend. The coolest…

“You know what, this is officially too much for me, so I'm gonna go upstairs and rip the heads off some dolls. Good night.”

Damn it I have to fix this.

Jake grabs his third double scotch and throws it down the hatch. The burning liquid hits his throat and he suppresses the need to choke. His dad had once told him that real men never cough when drinking hard liquor. It was the kind of throw-away comment that stuck in a kid’s head.

With that Jake stands up, takes a deep breath and heads for the stairs.

He’s walking quietly and steadily down the corridor past identical wooden door after identical wooden door until he reaches the right one. He stops a few feet away. He stares at it for a second, suddenly feeling his heart thudding against his ribcage and his breathing quicken. Jake closes his eyes.

He opens his eyes and takes the last few steps towards the door. He knocks three times confidently.

“Hey, it's me. Please open the door. Come on, let's talk. I'm sorry.”

He stands there staring at the wooden panels, straining to hear any movement from inside the room. After what seems like an age he hears footsteps approaching.

Thank god. She can’t be that mad after all.

The door opens a crack. “Hey Jake.”

She’s standing there leaning against the door frame with her arms folded and her expressive brown eyes looking up at her.

“Amy. Can I come in?”

 Fin.

The Many Times Jake is a Moron and the Few Times He isn't

Summary: a series of oneshot type things detailing the progression of Amy and Jake's relationship. Told from Amy's POV.

i.      Amy Santiago has had to deal with her fair share of idiots throughout her life – being a detective, it often comes with the territory.

But usually it’s the perps who get on her nerves. She never expected that she would be partnered with someone quite as immaturely idiotic as Jake Peralta. The day they met, she remembers thinking that someone was playing a prank on her. Surely, this man-child was not an actual detective?

Of course, she later went on to find out that he is in fact a detective and is actually quite good at it, too. Not that she’d ever admit that to him. He’s cocky enough already.

That was a while ago now, though. Amy’s known Jake long enough to realise that he’s more childish than any adult should be and that’s something that isn’t about to change any time soon.

So she shouldn’t really be surprised when she’s sitting in a fancy restaurant across from a gorgeous, green-eyed hunk and Jake suddenly appears out of nowhere.
