"Unleashing the Wild: Jack London's 'The Call of the Wild'—A Tale of Primordial Instincts and Untamed Spirit"
Tumblr media
Jack London's "The Call of the Wild" is a visceral journey into the heart of the untamed wilderness, a narrative that pulsates with the raw energy of the primal instincts that lie dormant within every creature. Published in 1903, this classic novel is a testament to London's mastery in crafting a tale that transcends time, drawing readers into the unforgiving landscapes of the Yukon during the Klondike Gold Rush. The title itself resonates with a magnetic allure, promising a narrative that explores the elemental forces that beckon both man and beast to heed the call of the wild.
The story unfolds through the eyes of Buck, a domesticated dog who is abruptly uprooted from his comfortable life in California and thrust into the harsh realities of the Alaskan wilderness. The title becomes a harbinger of transformation, as Buck undergoes a profound metamorphosis, shedding the trappings of civilization to embrace his innate, ancestral connection to the wild. London's vivid prose paints a canvas of snow-laden landscapes, echoing the silent but insistent call that reverberates through the vast, unforgiving expanse.
Buck's journey from a pampered pet to a formidable leader of a wolf pack is a metaphorical odyssey that mirrors the deeper yearnings within us all. The title acts as a guide through the wilderness of the soul, inviting readers to confront their own primal instincts and to question the veneer of civilization that often masks the untamed spirit within. London's storytelling prowess lays bare the essence of the struggle for survival and the indomitable will that emerges when one is faced with the call of the wild.
As Buck encounters a cast of diverse characters, both human and canine, the title encapsulates the universal theme of yearning for a life unburdened by the constraints of society. London skillfully weaves the narrative threads, exploring the symbiotic relationship between man and nature, as well as the brutality inherent in the fight for dominance in the wild. The title resonates with the echoes of howling wolves and the crunching of snow beneath paws, inviting readers to immerse themselves in a world where the laws of the wild reign supreme.
Beyond the adventure and survival narrative, "The Call of the Wild" delves into the complexities of the human-animal bond. The title becomes a metaphor for the indescribable connection that exists between Buck and his human masters, as well as the bonds forged among the sled dogs. London's exploration of loyalty, cruelty, and the indomitable spirit of the wild forms the core of this timeless narrative, inviting readers to reflect on their own relationships with the untamed aspects of existence.
In conclusion, Jack London's "The Call of the Wild" stands as a literary tour de force that beckons readers to answer the primordial summons that resonates in the recesses of their beings. The title, with its magnetic pull, encapsulates the essence of a narrative that explores the untamed spirit within us all. London's prose, rich in its portrayal of the harsh beauty of the wilderness, ensures that the call lingers in the reader's mind long after the final page is turned. This classic tale remains an enduring testament to the power of the wild, both in nature and within ourselves.

i cant really make this into a poll actually cause theres so many possible answers but i am sooo interested in people and where they are from like ancestrally. but theres no way to ask someone like "where are you from" without sounding racist as hell . but anyway do you know where your ancestors are from and have you been there??? how connected are you to that culture? do you want to learn more?

Went upstairs and stole all of my Mother in Law's incense supplies out of the spare bedroom she called her "Sanctuary"*. In the process I managed to also find a little bud vase, a small amount of fake flowers that'd fallen off something, a tiny little New Testament Bible, and a little Lace Doily.
*She loved her incense so much, it felt wrong not to have an Ancestor Altar up for her without her incense supplies.
I redid the Ancestor Shrine when I came back down, since I had a bunch of stuff for it finally.
Tumblr media
Put the Doily down as a "cloth". Added a little incense burner to it and stuck one of her Incense sticks in it. Put the Bible in the middle. Filled the Bud Vase with some of the Rock Salt I had from an old Wax Melter, then stuck the Fake Flowers in it. And since her Obituary is now in the paper, I cut it out and put it in the other side of the 2 photo frame we bought as well; the other side will have a proper photo of her once we pick one out.
I think she'd be happy with it. I hope she would be, at least.

still thinking about rage!kyana like. the way that it didn't quite click with me unti halfway through the conversation that the rage is why she's acting like this. her rage comes out as COLD and TERRIFYING and it's just a deep sense of "i need to finish this" and the lines blurring between her doing this for her friends, and her doing it as personal catharsis for HERSELF because cressida has already been rescued. and on top of that!! the fact that this rage is what unlocked another layer of the mystery to kyana's origins? terrifying! AND LINKING THIS TO HER THREATS TO ENDELLION AT THE END OF S3???? i cant remember the specific phrasing but like "if my friends need me to be a weapon today, i'm okay with that" AAAARGH I AM CLAWING AT THE WALLS I LOVE THIS IT'S CAUSING ME IMMENSE PAIN WHAT THE FUCK. AAAAAAAAA

Screaming yelling and obsessed with theorizing over what will happen if and when Scary DOES communicate with the Doodler. Imagine Scary passing that 40 wisdom saving throw (or yk, however Anthony ends up working that mechanic) and not only is Scary not consumed by terror the way Willie was by the doodler, but maybe she befriends it, they share a common goal and maybe they understand each other; Scary told Willie “Well, like, the Doodler's like a… kind of cool punk rock chick. Y’know? She's just like really misunderstood. And the more she craves love, the more she pushes other people away. And she doesn't know how to receive it right. Y’know? She's just like so misunderstood and edgy and cool.” Just imagining how insanely powerful Scary would be if they worked together!
I’m still not ruling out the crack theory that the Doodler is actually Scary’s patron and Willie’s just taking the credit as another means to wield power over her/convince her she needs him. Just… imagine

I’m thinking about the fact that the Fissure’s wildlife is broadly analogous to that of Greenguard again because
We’ve encountered gorillaphants, seed spitters, tuskmongers, and togs, and we’ve seen vultragons in the distance. These are all very distinctly creatures of Greenguard, specifically. And their presence there, mutated as they are, suggests that these were the creatures who lived in Hawkscry prior to the Fissure. Which means Hawkscry had an ecology very, very similar to Greenguard
and we know that when Hawkscry was destroyed, most of Greenguard’s magical knowledge went with it
and I’m just

Honest to God question: are they gonna have to not call him “Bender Rodriguez” or do jokes about his Latin heritage anymore so they can keep his blonde Italian voice actor in the role?

sometimes you’re sitting eating toast and then you get the deepest, strongest wave of despair over the things that happened to your people at the hands of colonizers and because of that you will never know your own personal history or genealogy in the way that many other people do and you already feel like an outsider to your ethnicity in a lot of ways

i'm so out of it rn but apparently my eldest aunt's mother in law used to practice magic. in rural pakistan in the mid to early 20th centruy. she ran away from her village to marry the man she loved and was hated for it by the society around her. apparently people used to call her too cunning. she was also apparently famous in the villages nearby for her beauty.
i am really, really mad that i did not get to ever meet this woman.
