Prince VR-LA and Knight Maxim have a rare personal conversation (it's very one sided) (but we do get insight into Maxim too, VR-LA just doesn't)

"Maxim?" VR-LA called, carrying flowers in his arms, his gaze leveled at the garden path beneath his feet rather than directly at the knight. He had gone to give the flowers again as he often did, but somebody already being at the statue had caused VR-LA to lead Maxim away immediately.

"Yes, your grace?" Maxim replied, similarly trying not to look at the solemn prince. It felt a bit too awkward as it was.

"There's a statue of somebody you care about there, right?" VR-LA asked.

"No." Maxim replied immediately, lying automatically. VR-LA didn't need to know that about him.

"...okay." VR-LA said, very quietly.

"It's very clear you did. I assume your last guard?" Maxim could guess he probably died protecting the prince.

VR-LA shook his head. "...no, not at all. My last guard actually retired after he got married. His wife is expecting, I've been trying to think of good gifts." He said awkwardly. "MR-SN is who I'm going to see." VR-LA clearly seemed to believe Maxim should already know the name.

"And you were close to him?"

"I looked up to him."

Maxim wasn't sure how to reply to that, so he kept quiet.

"...he deserved a lot better."

"Most 'heroes' do." As foolish as they are, as foolish as Maxim is right now, there aren't many things worth dying for.

The silence came back fully after that, VR-LA seeming to just decide to move on.

Blood soaked Maxim's boots, the massive creature reduced to desperate clawing at the tiled floors to attempt to get to Maxim, slamming its wings against the walls with each push. A foolish attempt. It took practically nothing to just step around it. He couldn't leave it to just bleed out, and so he moved to a safe distance at its size, letting its attempts at turning expose its weak point.

He took his crossbow off his belt, loading it, drawing it, and shooting. It thrashed one last time, slamming its own neck against the floor in a vain attempt to get the bolt out, only securing its death as it went limp.

Maxim resumed his walking, tucking away his crossbow as he made his way to the large door. It took quite a bit of force to pry it open, the effort leaving him breathing heavily from exertion, but he got inside. Within there was a gorgeous room that was near entirely white, colored light coming in through stained glass windows creating gorgeous effects. Maxim felt no guilt at the blood from his boots staining the tile.

A bed was at the very center, surrounded by thin lace curtains. Those would've taken years to craft. What a waste. Maxim pushed aside the curtains to reveal who laid within, the one he was meant to save. Fast asleep and tied up, the prince of his home laid in the bed. Silver curls laid messily over the pillow, none of his classic princely attire removed, not even his crown.

"Your grace," Maxim said, not lowering his normal volume, watching VR-LA startle awake and blink at him in confusion, "it's time to get you out of here." Before the true kidnapper returned.

"Who..?" VR-LA questioned, half asleep and confused.

"Just a knight. The queen sent me." Maxim said, pulling out his knife and starting to cut away the ropes before helping VR-LA to sit up. "Others will be meeting us nearby, you won't need to know my name."

VR-LA contemplated that, rubbing at his wrists. "Then how can I know you're trustworthy? That you're not just another kidnapper?" He very clearly didn't fully believe his own words, he didn't think Maxim was a kidnapper.

Maxim could already tell how exhausting this short journey would be. "You do not know the name of every knight there is, you would not know mine." He said, taking a step back to look over the prince, which visibly made VR-LA uncomfortable. "...apologies. You can call me Maxim."

This seemed to appease the prince. He stood up, his shoes clicking against the tile. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Sir Maxim."

Maxim kneeled before the queen, keeping his head down she gave an overly long speech about his heroism and being thankful and rewards. None of it was something he particularly cared for, he merely wanted to return to his home far off in the countryside, to return to his retirement in peace.

"-And so, in honor of his great deed, and in an act of caution until these events have been truly investigated, Sir Maxim will be rewarded, in addition to all previously promised rewards, with the position of the Crown Prince's personal guard. He shall be given the greatest honor of being entrusted to protect a piece of our very future."

Maxim internally said several words no gentleman should ever speak aloud. Mystra continued speaking not even sparing him a glance until it was time for him to say his thanks.

"...that is an honor beyond words and beyond what I deserve. Thank you, your majesty." He said through gritted teeth, not raising his head to avoid showing his expression. Who would consider babysitting a bratty prince an honor?

Trying my hand at a post canon Dani design the poll was a tie so you get both versions. I was pretty sure I was going to land on red for a while but I really like the green too. Feel free to tell me which you like better

Tattoo options, top left is what they look like in canon. The arm ones I’ve basically nailed down a look I like. Whether or not she has any on her chest doesn’t *really* matter because it will almost always be covered but I still wanted to play with the idea

first page of outfits, i basically just looked up a bunch of Pinterest refs for her miasma of different aesthetics, so the top two are based off tech wear and the bottom two on mechanic-y stuff

Outfits page 2, top two using cowboy refs, bottom two with pirate and sailing captain refs

Outfits page 3, this one’s more assorted, its where I started trying to combine elements I liked from the previous outfits, and landed on the bottom right one as my favorite

the colors were also a process in and of itself, I tried like three other cloak colors besides the final two and the pants also had several variations before I got it to a place I liked
